Emerging from a cave a purplish grey substance seemed to be expanding ever slowly clinging to the ground and creeping into the world outside. The substance looked as though it was alive continuing to creep outward.

The Queen of Blades had woken deep inside the cave she found herself strangely alone. Her power to sense her own expanded across the galaxy but not even a single zergling or infested could she feel here in this place. It had to have been the Protoss, only they would have the technology to do such a thing to her; but why? Isolate her from the swarm, clever, she knew not of how this happened. What Opening had she created to allow such a mistake? This world was free of any sort of infestation, she could feel it. It was ripe for the picking, how unlike them to force an uninfected planet to endure her reign. Perhaps once she found a way to return to char she may have new children to bring with her. If the infestation took hold well, perhaps her children would be drawn to this place, if not sent here by the Protoss.

She had to return soon, both Terran and Protoss alike would notice her absence; the Swarm would be in disarray. Both Terran and Protoss would use this opportunity to begin purging the Zerg from their planets, the swarm would be wounded and require recuperation for a time, silently in the dark. Her Brood mothers would too be taking advantage of her absence each trying to take over as head of the swarm. The zerg couldn’t function to their highest capacity without both an intelligent and powerful leader. Her race respected strength, with strength they would survive till the end of time, with her as their queen.

The Queen of Blades padded over the creep growing as she directed, creep tumors and Spine crawlers covered the cave. Made it feel more like the home she was so accustomed to at the same time warding off any unwelcome visitors. She paused in front of one spine crawler, and directed it to burrow itself in at the cave entrance. The Structure lifted itself up with three legs and crawled to where it had been directed before taking hold in the ground once more.

This place lacked recourses as well, not a single geyser of vespine gas or a crystal of mineral. She had found herself trapped, and changed she could no longer walk on her back legs like she used to. She had also acquired a set of three tails, they were well armored with zerg exoskeleton they could prove useful in her defence if used efficiently. The one thing the Zerg were best at was adapting, she would find the resources of this world and use them to grow her new hive... However she lacked both drones to gather and larvae to create.

Frustrating, she would still bring this world to its knees like she had done to so many others, even if she had to do it herself.

Badb Catha was distinctly unhappy, and decidedly bored. She had managed to rile tempers, inspire some fights, and even partake in a few; but there had been no challenge, and in spite of her efforts she had not managed to start any true battles again. And with the rest of the Apocalypse army long since scattered to the winds, forms changed and power broken by the strangeness of this place, she'd had no allies to call on to try and regain a foothold.

She was still War, and if Apocalypse could no longer fulfill her need for battle, she would find some way to do it herself. And perhaps she could draw her brothers in arms out of their torpor if she could manage that. Or at least her steed. To trample the bloody bodies of the fallen with him again would have been a glorious thing...

Daydreaming and musing was put aside when she noticed movement on the ground below her. Something at the mouth of that cave? She tucked her wings and stooped low in the air for a closer look. What was that bizarre goo? It seemed alive, and as slow as it moved, it seemed to be with purpose...

She landed near the treeline, intending to creep forward and try to determine what she could of this thing from the better cover on the ground. Something about this seemed... promising.

You can have the spike colony try to attack her if you want... might be interesting to see how she handles it. twisted

Without warning the spine crawler recoiled then trusted extending to a surprising length outside the cave aiming directly at the kitsu creeping toward the living creep. From the mouth of the cave came two more spine crawlers and one spore crawler scuttling toward the edge of the creep burrowing themselves into the ground, the spore crawler behind the other three.

Once burrowed the others did the same thrusting the dangerous spine toward the creep’s intruder. The spore crawler however stayed dormant waiting, waiting for its target to present itself. It just sat there mysteriously breathing or what could be considered breathing. While the other structures attacked.

The spine crawlers would relentlessly attack anyone who strayed to near the creep.

---

The Queen of Blades brow rose, such an ignorant foolish creature to approach the creep. The spine crawlers would deal with it, The Queen of Blades continued to shape the new hive as she liked it deep inside the cave.

Badb was not expecting the strange living construct that so suddenly thrust an attacking tendril toward her. Years of battle-honed instinct caused her to leap aside almost at the last second to avoid injury without giving the attacker time to alter its aim. Then other fleshy constructs joined the fray, scuttling to plant themselves at the edge of the strange goo before attacking.

But they did not proceed past the goo, aside from their attacks. How very... entertaining. Laughter bubbled out of Badb even as she continued to dodge her attackers, a giddy and girlish laughter that would have made her seem silly were it not for the manic glee and calculating gleam in her eyes. What better way to guard your fortress than with living walls that defended themselves?

But they were flesh and blood, and had their limitations, for they could follow her no farther when she moved back out of range. They could not move past the edge of the goo... perhaps it was what fed them? But as fascinating as studying this strange enemy was, she wanted more to know what lay inside the cave they were guarding now.

She drew her weapon then; it was always with her, though it was all but invisible unless she held in her paw for the flames did not burn otherwise. "War's Flaming Sword" it was often called, though it was not necessarily always a sword. Sometimes a halberd, or a javelin, or even a stiletto. There were many tools of war, and she would call on the one she deemed most fitting... although Badb never took to firearms. She preferred the old tools, and letting out the blood of her foes with her own paws.

Weapon drawn then she took to the air, intending to see how far her opponents' reach extended. She would take them down. She was patient, and it wasn't as if she didn't have the time. She'd had far too much time lately, it was nice to find a way to spend it for a few minutes, at least...

As Badb moved out of range the spine crawlers recoiled settling themselves back into position waiting once more for the kitsu to venture 'too' close. Neither Spine or spore crawler had any response to Badb giddy laughter; they lived without a full mind of their own.

As soon as Badb took to the air the spore crawler fired with surprising accuracy for something that didn't have any eyes. It seemed to be able to feel something in the air that gave away Badb's location. The spore crawler continued to fire, and the rate seemed to increase over a time as the thing seemed to be adapting.

This time it was the spine crawlers who suddenly seemed dormant until Badb came nearer to the ground only to lash out at her once more. None of the structures liked fire, a weak point they had, Zerg flesh burned quite easily. Still without a word they waited

----

The laughter seemed to echo through the cavern causing the Queen of Blades to glance in that direction. A mysterious smile graced her lips before she returned to her previous task. It would be a little more difficult than that.

And here was a thing that was even prepared for attacks from the air! Oh, it had been a long while since she'd faced anything with that much forethought, or anything more proficient at shooting at her than an archer. This was much more effective a deterrent against an airborne opponent, but still something she could overcome. It would simply take more effort.

Badb circled up and outward until she was out of range of the rear attacker, idly circling the area as she considered her options. Then she flew up, and up, and up. She knew a way to be sure she was moving fast enough to avoid the constructs' attacks, unless they had hidden reserves of speed they had not yet shown her.

She dove then, from a height that would dizzy even most angelics, her weapon shifting form into a javelin of flames. Her dive turned her into an arrow of war, and she flared her wings to alter course and almost skid across the ground. But she passed behind the spore crawler, hoping to avoid the spikes by virtue of speed and the assumption that they would have to adjust to go around their fellow construct. And then she launched her burning javelin at it in her passing.

She was confident she could repeat her aerial maneuver and pluck it back out if she needed to, but she would give the flames a moment to do their job. She landed in a high tree out of reach and watched to see what her little delivery had wrought.

The creep recoiled from the burning fires retreating further back as though making way for the fires to save itself. The spore crawler burrowed in the ground wasn't so lucky. It wriggled in pain as it felt the fires burn through one side, the spore crawler began to heal, and quickly too. The flames seemed to quell from the amount of blood spewed from the crawler and the healing continued, even wounded it seemed to continue to spew objects at Badb. It wouldn’t stop until it was fully destroyed, however its aim was poorer than before.

The Spine crawlers lunged as Badb came close enough to the ground, however they missed the heat searing the exposed spine, instead they ended up deep inside the rock but just as quickly returned to the resting state they were accustomed, healing from the wicked fires.

The Creep waited for any of the remaining fires to burn itself out before covering the ground once more.

It was interesting to see how rapidly the goo retreated from the flames, and how quickly the flesh burned. It was partially counteracted by the sheer rapidity of the construct's regeneration, but it was still wounded. It would still burn.

This time when she dove to retrieve her weapon she spun with it, cleaving a burning arc out of the construct's flesh as she went, and leaving a burning trail behind her. The spring had been wet, the forest wound not likely burn, or at least not much. She had other things to occupy her mind, and she was only concerned for the burning of the forest in as far as it inconvenienced her later when looking for food and a comfortable perch.

She moved in again, this time from the ground, approaching at an angle that should mean only one of the spine crawlers would attack her when she reached the point where it was close enough to activate as long as she didn't move in close enough to trigger the others. Her weapon had returned to blade form now, and she intended fully to cleave a burning path through the offending appendages until she could deal with the source.

The spine crawlers lunged again as Badb came down each one trying to skewer her and protect the single spore crawler. The Crawlers weren’t intelligent however the fulfilled their single function keeping intruders away.

The spore crawler seemed to become incapacitated for a time, as the large chunk was ripped from it, it lived still but would no longer attack Badb in the air. It would take some time to repair itself let alone fire as it had. Badb's Aim had been true.

The spine crawler that the kitsu baited attacked stretching it's full length trying to stab Badb, after all it was all it could do for now. The other two stayed inactive for now, they waited for her to come close enough to attack. They couldn't feel any sort of danger it just knew it had to destroy that which was in it's way.

Badb lept once she was sure the spike was committed to its course, flapping her wings with one powerful thrust to rise above the arc of its attack as it came at her. Then she swung her burning blade to cross the width of it, intent on trying to sever the end of the spike and at least reduce its ability to pierce, if not bludgeon. But as she finished her attack she realized the spore crawler had not fired upon her...

Given the entirety of their previous behavior she doubted it was a ploy. They were fierce and relentless, but the constructs were not intelligent by any means. Her glee was an almost palpable thing in the air as she shifted her course in the air to dance across the top of the constructs. A dance of death with the purpose of cutting a burning path through the lot of them. It might take a little time to fully disable them, but she knew she had won now.

She would really have to thank the one responsible for these interesting little opponents when she was done here. Whether they came out to investigate or she went inside, Badb was quite sure they'd be meeting face to face before the day was out. Though at this point she wouldn't put it past the master of these constructs to have prepared some other surprises for her by this point, she was sure she'd made herself known long before now.

The crawler recalled it's spike as it regenerated, fire causing a hampering of the regeneration ability till it was quelled bu the blood that spewed. It would take more time to repair the damage the fire had done, after which it would be easier to repair it's spike. It still Thrust the wounded spike toward the intruder.

The Other two continued to remain stationary waiting for an opening. They would not relent untill the intruder was dead. The Crawler would bludgeon the kitsu to death if it had to.

----

The Queen of Blades could feel the burning pain of the structures on the edge of the creep. Somone seemed to be enjoying themselves. The Spore crawler remained incapacitated, but the other three continued to attack and seemed to be falling to a more powerful enemy.

It seemed not everyone was as weak as she thought. She lifted her paws from the creep padding toward the cave entrance to meet this intresting indruder who dared try and destroy her current residence.

This may prove intresting.

Perhaps there was some strange tremor in the air, but whatever quality in the surroundings it was that had changed somehow Badb new that the owner of the constructs was about to appear. There was a delicious sense of impending doom that she hadn't felt since Apocalypse was at the height of his power.

Oh, this would be good.

She altered her advance and took one more practiced swipe at the spore crawler to be certain it wouldn't start shooting at her again before circling into the sky, there to wait for her next encounter from a better vantage. The flaming brand of her weapon still burned brightly as it hung idly at her side where she hovered. It would not return to slumber yet, Badb would likely still have need of it.

The two remaining spine crawlers lunged at Badb, seeing as though she had seemingly forgot them, and repeated relentlessly. The spore crawler then began repairing the slash and burn Badb had given it. The spore crawler wouldn't fire for some time yet.

---

She could sense the one before her, both similar and different to the larger population of creatures living in this area. Interesting, judging by the pain of her crawlers. This should prove to be entertaining, still unprepared to infest the new species. Her tails moved back and forth in a creepy manner.

The Queen of Blades approached the edge of the cave her eyes glowing ominously in the dark unblinking, her face emerging from the shadows stepping into the light. Her focus was on Badb, she could feel the crawlers trying to restore themselves, they would given time. To The queen of blades, Badb seemed far too old fashioned, no laser, bullet or energy sword, but a sword surrounded by fire. Not too much of a bother, Badb would be the first to fall to The Queen of Blades infestation.

Without a word or movement a burst of psyonic energy emitted from The Queen of Blades, testing how much tolerance the other kitsu could handle.

Haisyn Fierra

((Indeed the poor Crawlers))
PostPosted: Thu Mar 29, 2012 2:34 pm

Badb had not forgotten her other opponents, it was simply more efficient to deal with one at a time. And it meant her bit of fun would last longer. Although it seemed that an even more entertaining encounter was about to begin.

When Kerrigan first appeared Badb was honestly impressed, and more than a bit fascinated. The living goo and the constructs seemed to be made from the same stock of flesh that this one came from, but she was obviously more intelligent, and much more powerful. A power she displayed with as much thought as one gave to breathing almost the moment she appeared.

It was not something Badb was expecting, for psionics were not something she had seen displayed on this world before. She had the feeling by now that this creature was no more originally a part of this world than she'd been, however; she berated herself for not being prepared for something else unusual to occur. The blast knocked her backward in the air a few feet before she could right herself with a couple of powerful wing beats. She would prepare a shield next time.

Badb lifted her blade to point it at Kerrigan, tilting her head to the side. "Not quite what I was expecting after playing with your little constructs there. But that wasn't bad, not bad at all. Been a while since I fought a psionic battle-master." Without another word or even much motion to provide warning the Horseman swung her blade again, this time unleashing a blast purely of flame without removing her grip from her weapon.

She was War after all. She was not so simple a creature as she first appeared.

The Queen of Blades created a psyonic shield to quell the fires before they reached her with little effort she was not like any of the other zerg, no she was far beyond them. However she became intrigued by Badb’s abilities; she now understood why her crawlers had difficulties. The queen remained unphased by the cliché gesture. How many had done that before? The queen had long since lost count.

"Will you be the first to fall to the coming Storm?" she inquired with a riddling question this creature seemed intent on battle; The Queen could feel the prowess this thing held. Badb lust for battle rivaled her own need to assimilate worlds to expand the swarm. A creepy smile slipped onto her features, Badb wasn't going to give her an easy time if she wanted to infest her... but neither would The Queen of Blades make a simple target. A soldier such a Badb would be advantageous to her cause the first of many.

She waited outwardly unconcerned yet menacingly for the horseman's response whatever it may be. The Queen of Blades would be the downfall of this world.
