Madison | Deep Pink | DDR Arrow | Tanto
PostPosted: Sun Mar 25, 2012 5:29 pm

YOUNG GIRL

Name: Madison Crowley
Color: #FF1493 -- Deep Pink
Age: 14
Nationality: 100% American
Home/Financial Status: Middle Class
School: Teufel Town High School (9th Grader)

Personality: "Ooh you know what I like? Well let me tell you, it's fantastic and I'm sure you'll love it too!" *cue hour long, non-stop chatter about something that has been recently discovered by Maddie* "And it's amazingly awesome and if you want I'll let you borrow my DVDs! Trust me YOU WILL LOVE IT!"

Limitless energy contained in a small package is a good way to describe Madison Crowley. At the tender age of fourteen, this spritely girl has exuberance on levels some might say would break records if such a thing were recorded. Maddie is without a doubt an extrovert. She greets everyone she meets with a hearty "Hello, how are ya?!" and regularly tries to get into the midst of things no matter what they are. Clubs, groups, a two person conversation...nosy as she may be, one can never say the teen is moody or uncooperative to anyone. However, she can go more than a little over the top and in more ways than one.

The first way is her talkativeness. Maddie will talk your ear off if you let her, even on things that don't pertain to her interests. She just loves to gab and this, naturally, makes her something of a gossip. One would be wise to not tell her a secret because it will certainly be exposed at some point in the future even if she means to keep it hidden. Added to this, she is quite a loud child so if the secret is exposed, it'll either be through a shout or be closely followed by a bevvy of giggles - nervous or otherwise.

Secondly, although a teen she is not yet fully mature either and is thus easily impressionable. She picks up things easily - dangerously so, in her grandmother's opinion - and there's a high chance of her taking on what is impressed upon as she is at the age where she's still trying to find her sense of who she is and what she wants to be. At least on the other hand it does make her rather empathetic and quick to jump on something that could be affecting another negatively (then again, she could jump the gun entirely as well). Although a leader in her own right, peer pressure can get to this girl eventually, even if she starts off as being indignant about things at first.

At least with the impressionability comes an easiness to please. It doesn't take much to make Maddie happy, as just chatting with her for awhile will have her singing a person's good graces. Of course, this might lead to her fangirl tendencies raising its head on the other end of the spectrum. No, it's not just anime, manga, and other such things that make Maddie go ga-ga and near foaming at the mouth when she talks about it. People, animals, plants, anything really can have her going on and on and on and on for hours. Although Japan and all its wonders have a permanent residence in her heart, she is prone to having these flights of fancy on anything newly discovered by her that happens to catch her eye. If she finds it quirky, it's gonna be a big hit.

Speaking of quirkiness, Madison is at that age where the word "random" is applied to herself, by herself. Oops she did something odd but not completely unreasonable? "TEEHEE I'M SO RANDOM!" This undoubtedly could lead to some tension between Maddie and a few Puella (mostly on the latter's end) as, yes, Madison can be quite obnoxious. Her nosiness paired with her talkativeness is a time bomb waiting for an easily agitated person to act as the fuse. Of course, she will be oblivious until the bomb goes off and the person who was annoyed tells her off to her face. And it will need to be to her face - storming off might leave her befuddled as to why one did that, but she'll think of it as 'oh they needed to be somewhere else' or something to that effect. Naive? Quite certainly more than a little bit and because of that if someone does end up giving her the what for, don't be surprised if she starts to cry. Empathy pairs well with sensitivity after all.

Appearance: For immediate reference

Fourteen years old, short-ish, stringy, Caucasian, pink-eyed, and straw blonde is Madison at a glance. There's not much else more to those descriptors as they are as accurate as they come, but taking a longer look will yield some more physical factors to this girl.

Standing at a rounded 5'2", Madison is still in the midst of puberty and still could have an inch or two to go before her height tapers off and sets at an average height for a young woman. Her build is stringy - lean, but with well built musculature in her legs from hours of DDR and general active movement and a small bust line. She lacks the defined curves of a fully mature woman, but such dips are beginning to settle in around her hips, which are as Caucasian a color as the rest of her. Maddie's skin is pale, but not colorless; the sun she gets is enough to leave her looking healthy but she doesn't keep herself outside long enough to work up a lingering tan. Her eyes stand out vividly against said skin and her straw blonde hair, which is kept tied low in two tuft-like ponytails in back, and pinned down with an odd assortment of colorful barrettes in front.

Stepping away from the features she was born with and is growing into, Madison's wardrobe is also taken into account. The girl dresses in a manner that she describes as 'random'. Jeans under short skirts with t-shirts or tank tops over that, shorts over leggings with long sleeve sweaters covering her top half; bright colors, crazy patterns, characters and prints from cartoons, games, tv shows, and animes alike...if it's a little bit odd, Maddie might wear it - so long as it does have a girly touch. She's not a fan of boyish or truly sporty things, though if she has to (say the store is out of a particular anime tee in her size) she'll suck it up and wear that instead.

Accessories are a large part of Maddie's get up as well. She adores barrettes of all sorts and regularly mixes them up when using them to clip her bangs back. Bracelets are another favorite - particularly the jelly sort. Thick or thin, it doesn't matter so long as they're jelly. Legwarmers are also big in her books, and Madison has at least five pairs in all different colors - one for every occasion and ensemble; though she's definitely not adverse to mixing the colors up for added "random" flair.

History: Starting at the beginning, she was born to a single mother after her birth father skipped out after discovering his girlfriend was pregnant since he felt he didn't want to be tied down permanently. Maddie's mother moved back in with her grandmother to cover the costs of the pregnancy, birth, and first few months, although this situation turned more permanent than either woman expected given a few strokes of bad luck for both parties given the economy, general health issues, and more than one douchebag of an apartment landlord. Maddie has known no different.

Maddie has been in Teufel Town public schools since Pre-K. An average (B's and C's mostly with a constant A coming from PE) student, she was neither popular nor unpopular to her peers. Some found her annoying, others endearing, but regardless of the opinions she found herself a niche and enough friends to throw a good sized sleepover when the occasion called for it. She was well liked by her teachers - though ask any of them and they'll say the girl might just be a little too bubbly - and is now in her first year of high school. Although her life has been relatively calm to this point (no craziness or disparaging memories here!) there is one thing that has sent her happy world through an amazing loop: anime.

Like a lot of anime otaku, Maddie discovered this eyeopening, worldly passtime in the cafeteria at lunch. Her table was filled with a motley crew - drama afficienados, band geeks, mall goths, niche-less bodies, and even a stoner - and it was one of them who brought in the first manga Madison ever saw. The funny comic that one particular girl named Adele read backwards of all things struck Maddie's eye when she saw the oh so beautiful man and his equally beautiful girlfriend on the cover. Striking up a conversation and asking almost limitless questions, Maddie was hooked with just was she heard. The line and sinker came in when Adele let her borrow the first book in the series to read for as long as it took her. Needless to say, it didn't take the blonde girl to go from cover to cover and ask if she could borrow the next books too which just shows how engaging this "sho-jo mahn-ga" was to her. The art, the dialogue, the plot, the characters...it all appealed to Maddie's self in every way and she fell head over heels in love, which broke the dam wide open as far as her mother and grandmother were concerned. Now Maddie lives, breathes, sleeps, reads, watches, plays, and even eats anime (sushi, ramen, pocky, bubble tea, and ramune are H-E-A-V-E-N). She is firmly known as the 'crazy anime chick' in school and she could not be happier about that!

Family:

Lydia Crowley - Mother - 40: Lydia is Madison's hardworking mother. She had Maddie when she was 26, without the support of the girl's father and has been working hard ever since with the the help of her mother to raise her daughter up right. Presently she works as a teller for a major bank.

Mina Crowley - Grandmother - 73: Mina is Madison's grandmother. Like her daughter, Mina is hardworking even at her age. She might not be employed anymore, but she makes sure to be a help around the house rather than an added burden on her daughter. She adores her granddaughter even if the girl's hobbies strike her as odd.

Douglas DuPont - Father - 44: Douglas is Madison's birth father, however he skipped out on Lydia when he found out she was pregnant. He has not been seen - nor is desired to be seen - by the Crowley's since.

PUELLA MAGI

Language: Japanese

Desires: To be like them!

Maddie's kept a strong love of magical girl shoujo close to her heart since she discovered it. I'm hoping that she'd be able to see other Puella Magi fight a witch before she contracts, as witnessing the battle and just plain seeing that magical girls exist would make her life. She's not a girl to really think about a wish in depth, so this sort of dopey desire to be a magical girl (or "like them" as she will put it) would be her contracting wish.

Emblem: DDR Arrow

Weapon: A Tanto. This is a small Japanese sword that seems appropriate for someone of Maddie's size. As well, haliekins has informed me a lot of girls in anime use these swords and even decorate their hilts with dangly charms. That seems very appropriate for Madison!

Type of Magic: Copy Magic! Since Maddie's wish was vague - 'to be like them' - her magic deals with mimicking her teammates own magics and possibly moves. Good for dealing a one-two punch of sorts but drawbacks could include her only being able to copy one attack at a time, being unable to control the more powerful attacks of a Puella, and perhaps many a social stigma from those Puella who don't consider imitation as the sincerest form of flattery.

Outfit: Maddie plays a LOT of JPRGs, watches a ton of anime, and reads an equal amount of manga. She adores shoujo (including magical girl shoujos) and as such, I'd like her Puella outfit to reflect the sorts of clothing found in such magical girl anime/manga. I'm talking short, puffy skirts, bows, frills, puffy sleeves, stockings, wrist or elbow-length gloves, butt bows, ribbon chokers with charms, and either ankle-high boots or Puella!Madoka-esque shoes.

I would be much obliged if the artist would avoid the "Sailor Moon" route, meaning no sailor fuku or whatnot as far as her outfit goes, but other than that and what's been put above, I have no other desires for her outfit. As a suggestion, think along the lines of Cardcaptors and Tokyo Mew Mew. Those are the kinds of outfits I'm talking about.

Sup, Ravidazzles! * u * Oh gosh, this girl~ I love her concept. Okay, and here's a crit!

I like that Maddie's a little obsessive about what she likes, but I really want to hear more about what she's like when she's not thinking anime. What's her serious side like? How does Maddie cope with sadness-- either the small sadness of not getting what she wants, or a larger sadness like a family tragedy-- does she recede into herself or does she take it out on everyone around her? Is she quick to anger? I'd also love to hear more of the positive things that her obsession grants her: is she dedicated to idolizing her fandoms through art or writing, or maybe getting all the voices just right? Does her love for the Japanese culture motivate her to be the best student in her language classes? Usually with that strong an obsession, it'll push the person to pursue it in some way. Is Maddie crazy good at DDR and rockin' all the high scores? Tell us more about the benefits that she gets from her love of the Japanese culture.

What can't Maddie stand? What drives her nuts? I'd love to hear more about how she deals with people who annoy her, or even people that just think that she's weird because of her obsessions. What are her friends like? Do they think that she's way too into her obsessions or are they also a lot like her in that they obsess about a lot of things, too?

I like that she's comfortable being the "crazy anime chick" but it also seems like she'd probably feel pressure from the popular kids to change, too. Maybe you could work this into who she is-- how she's fiercely independent when it comes to what she likes, but how it still hurts not to be accepted by the dominant culture (the popular peeps) because of what she likes, and then also not quite accepted by the culture producing the anime because she wasn't born into it/ "truly" a member. I think there's a ton of potential for great inner tension-- pretending to be something you're not versus the idea of getting to decide who you are and letting everyone else deal-- and you should totally exploit that!!

:D I love her DDR arrow as a weapon, though, oh maaaan. whee Good luck, Ravi!
