The end of March meant one, fantastically great thing to Sailor Remarque: The end of winter. He had started off the season freezing cold, in a sleeveless attire that did little other than chill him. He had ended it much better dressed—still a bit ill from whatever bugs he’d caught during the colder months. Coffee had overrun fast food as his guilty pleasure of choice; he’d had two cups in the half our before he’d finished up his homework and powered up.
He’d kept to his plan and limited himself to powering up every other day, adjusting his schedule so he was able to keep himself busy and yet still not exclude any of his plans. He’d been busy with Millicent, with spending extra time with his mother, and with visiting Raven, though if there was anything for him to complain about, it wasn’t that.
It was that there weren’t enough people out.
Spring had already started, so why weren’t there hoards of people wandering in the park? Why hadn’t the homeless population set up camp outside the shelters yet? If he was out here—why weren’t they?
He cracked his knuckles, only slightly aware that his lack of patience stemmed from an overabundance of caffeine and cough medicine.
Remarque was trying to enjoy his midnight walk through the park, though he wasn’t out for a scenic stroll, he was here to do his job.

Spring was coming, if it wasn’t already here. Albireo was out patrolling, what a surprise. She figured it would be better to just go out in the warmer weather, and since tonight was only going to a low of fifty degrees, that was the warmer weather she had been waiting for.
With a sigh, the super senshi of swans made her way to the park, frowning as she felt a very strong chaotic aura.
Why did someone have to be out? Why did someone stronger than her have to be out here. For a moment, the girl froze. What if it was Painite…
She took a half of a step backwards. She didn’t want to run into that witch already. God, if there was anyone in the world she hated, it was Painite…
After a long moment of debating, she decided to at least get a little closer, if worst came to worst, she’d flee like nobody’s business, but at least she could…see who it was…

The aura of an order aligned senshi seemed to be just the thing to brighten Remarque’s mood; it hadn’t been what he was looking for, per se, but that by no means meant he wasn’t going to pursue it. He adjusted his course a bit to the nearest mirror after a bit of calculation, and then stepped through it. Haunting the park had made him keenly aware of the location of most of the mirrors in the area, so as he stepped through the one in front of him, he focused his attention and slipped out of a mirror closer to where he assumed the aura was coming from.
The mirror was a bit closer to the senshi than he had expected, and when he stepped out he found himself staring at the back of a familiar enough girl—Albireo. He had known her in the Surrounding and run into her only once since then. Their encounter had not been particularly painful, however he remembered it not being especially pleasant.
They hadn’t been friendly then, but that wasn’t going to stop him from screwing around, now. She had thrown birds at him during their last encounter—what was the worst she could do this time? Back then he had been less powerful than her, so how could this time be any worse?
He moved quickly, though silently, and lightly brushed his fingertips over her bare arm. “Boo.”

A small frown crossed Albireo’s face when the chaos aura disappeared, but that was quickly replaced by a relieved smile. Well, that took care of that. She stretched then gave a yawn, and was right in the middle of it when something touched her and said boo…something with a very strong aura of chaos.
The super senshi jumped at least two feet in the air and spun around, eyes wide. “What the hell?” She scrambled to get as far away from the ‘attacker’ as possible and was drawing in deep, calming breaths. That had not been what she was expecting, not by a long shot.
She looked the person up and down, another slight frown marring her features. “Sailor…Remarque, wasn’t that your name?” He had buttwings now. Huh. He must have been training all those nights when she was tucked warmly in bed, sleeping and avoiding all types of duties. Well. Whatever.
“It’s been a while. Nice wings.” She didn’t really want this to turn into a fight…and since it wasn’t Painite, maybe it wouldn’t have to.

A smirk had crawled onto Remarque’s face from Albireo’s reaction. “Yeah, thanks. Where are yours?” he prompted, perhaps out of genuine curiosity, or perhaps because he was just that much of a d**k. He seemed casual enough, clearly comfortable being within her presence. Though he had not forgotten—nor forgiven her—for their last encounter, he was aware that he had put her under pressure last time, and like any feral creature backed into a corner might, she had lashed out at him.
He knew he was supposed to hate the senshi—for being aligned with the white moon and for what she had done to Leto—though he found himself giving her a lot of slack. She had been the one with him when he awoke from his coma, and the one who had given him what information she could up in space, and he was not ungrateful towards what kindness she had shown him in the past.
To him, that said there was there was hope for her. She just wanted to help people, to do the right thing.
She just needed a little help, herself.

“Mine haven’t arrived yet. Guess I haven’t cared enough to really work for them.” She shrugged lightly then rubbed at her eye with one of her gloved hands. “Guess you really have something awesome to work for, huh? Must be nice. How is everyone, Leto and whatnot.”
She didn’t care for really any of the other Dark Mirror Senshi, that Navi cat had been a real b***h, but…Leto was nice. Leto was her friend. “She’s still doing okay, right? Not getting her face smashed in by any of my little friends, right?” That night still made Albireo rather sick to her stomach, but…it was in the past. And Pippin was right. She was just defending herself. Sort of. Well, that excuse made her feel better about it.
Oh well. “Anyway, what do you want? You here to pick a fight, because, sorry, you’re not going to get one from me. I just, really don’t care at the moment.”

“No fight?” he prompted. “I think I can live with that. You know, you seem kind of out of it.” He didn’t have much to compare to; on the Surrounding she had acted vaguely different, though back here in Destiny City she had seemed uncertain and distant. “…Everything going all right or do you have something weighing on your mind?”
He didn’t answer about Leto or the other Dark Mirror Senshi partially because he found that her demeanor was of more interest to him—and partially because he actually had no idea. He hadn’t seen a vast majority of them in some time, though no one had called to give him any devastating news nor had he received any ‘Hey, I got the s**t beat out of me, come to my place and have a party’ texts.

“Out of it? Yeah, I guess. But, I haven’t really been all here for a while now. I’m working on it, though. Slowly but surely.” It was the truth. She was in a rut, and she did want to get out of the rut. And she was sure she would, someday…maybe not today, but someday.
“Haven’t been out much during the winter. I figured it would be better to just, stay home and be warm then be out here freezing to death just trying to save some people from some assholes. And, honestly, that still seems like a good plan to me. I like being warm.” Her stupid fuku did nothing to keep her even the slightest bit warm, so she was right to have remained inside. Even if some people may have gotten very hurt because of it..

“Don’t blame you at all. Was cold this winter. Don’t think you really missed much sitting on the sidelines, though.” He shrugged, seeming mostly relaxed in the situation. “Nothing really spectacular happened. Is everything…you know. All right?” he prompted, glancing her over. “I mean, all the senshi I met were very proactive in this whole…thing. Cold or not. You still having doubts about if you’re doing the right thing or not?”
Crossing his arms over his chest, Remarque was acting more like talking to a friend than someone he should be fighting against, though he considered Albireo to be a delicate sort of creature. She had been teetering on some sort of indecision and confusion the last time they had met, and it was inspiration enough to pursue conversation over violence.

“I’m not having doubts, it’s more like, I’ve got this power, and yeah. When I feel like it, I’ll go help people. I suppose, I’ve decided to make my own destiny. ******** what everyone else says. Albireo works…for Albireo. Maybe later that’ll change, but right now, no. I don’t care about…Anything, to be perfectly honest.”
She shrugged and reached back, then pulled her dangling blue ribbon towards her, rubbing it gently. “I mean. People have mentioned the princess, and sure, maybe she’s there. Somewhere…but I’ve never seen her, she’s not doing jack s**t to help anything, why would I want to go around, risking my life to be her…pawn? I’m not a pawn. Screw that.”
She looked back to Remarque. “I’m not going to just…join your side or anything, I’m gonna…do whatever the ******** I want. I mean, this power is mine. It can’t be taken from me, not that I know of, at least…and…yeah. That’s that.” She shrugged and glanced away again, sighing.

‘That’s that?’ Oh. But it wasn’t just ‘that’s that. Remarque saw it on several different layers, processed it, and then just flashed another smile. “Good for you,” he announced. “Self-awareness seems like an incredible thing for a senshi to have these days. I admire you for thinking for yourself.”
She might not have been an ally, but at least she was different than his enemies.
“If you don’t want to join, well. I can’t say we won’t be disappointed not to have you. The Dark Mirror Senshi could benefit from having you, but I guess at the end of the day, you just have to do what’s best for you. Leto’s doing all right, by the way. If you’d like to meet up with her some time, I could pass along the message…?” he prompted, keeping up his friendly demeanor.
She wasn’t entirely frustrating him, but he’d have loved nothing more than to drag her through the mirror, toss her to Ares, and let his Queen decide her fate, though Remarque gathered that if he wanted Albireo to ever join their court, the most effective way he’d get her to participate was by making her want to join. Forcing her into it wouldn’t make her any more eager to assist in their cause than she currently was in fighting for the White Moon’s Princess.

She nodded. “Maybe someday. Who knows. Leto’s nice enough. And it’s not like I have much to lose, not many of the senshi seem…” She shrugged. She really hadn’t made much of an effort what so ever to really connect with any of the other senshi, and they had really never reached out to her either. Oh well. It didn’t really matter that much.
“I was thinking of just, you know. Joining the negaverse or some s**t. Sounds pretty exciting to me, or, at least it did.” She leaned against a tree and glanced up at the still bare branches, wondering when the leaves would start popping their beautiful green selves back out. “It’s strange how much you can despise a group of people, yet still be compelled to want to go with them. Completely mental.” Painite was someone who she would just like to squash like a bug, but Zinkenite, he was nice. And…And Jarosite. Albireo felt her face heating up slightly and cleared her throat. “Yeah. It’s just. Stupid that way. But. I guess sometimes it's just not worth fighting or whatever."

Remarque watched the girl, keenly aware of the color that lit up her face. He didn’t know what she was thinking about, though wasn’t entirely sure he even wanted to know. Crossing his arms over his chest again, he listened to her and considered her words. “If it’s not even worth fighting, why don’t you just toss away your pen and never worry about it again? If you don’t want to be in this war, then don’t.”
He was still skeptical on senshi aligned with the Negaverse; he’d never met one—nor knew Ares’ policies or thought on them. He felt a little annoyed that Albireo could want to join the Negaverse when the Dark Mirror Senshi was clearly the better option, though he wasn’t going to push her entirely away from the idea of leaving the ranks of Order.

“Yeah. That’s pretty much what I’ve done all winter.” She scowled at Remarque now. “It’s not really that easy to just…throw it away. I just have to figure out my place, that’s all.” She shrugged, then pushed off the tree she was leaning on. “I think I’ve overstayed my welcome. I’m going to head out now. It’s been nice chatting with you, Remarque.”
So she was lying a little. Maybe it hadn’t been a nice chat with the Dark Mirror Senshi…he seemed like a real…d**k, even if he was trying to act all nice and concerned. She would have been more comfortable if he would have just fought her…at least maybe. It didn’t matter now. The conversation was over.
“Maybe I’ll see you again sometime. Who knows.” She gave a little wave and turned to go.

Remarque found great amusement in how the girl dismissed herself. There was no welcome to overstay, and he couldn’t really consider this to have been a nice chat since she wasn’t fawning over the Dark Mirror Court and begging him to take her to Ares. “You take care of yourself, Albireo. Hopefully the next time we meet, you’ve figured out just where you belong.”
If she hadn’t by then, he wasn’t sure she ever would—and that just made her a liability. She had already proven that in a team, she could be a devastating force; he had not forgotten what they’d done to Leto and regardless of whatever friendship Albireo seemed to have with the other girl, if it wasn’t enough to get her to convert, it wasn’t that great, anyway. He lingered where he was, just watching after the senshi thoughtfully. She was fortunate in that she was having doubts about her place being with the white moon, though so very unfortunate that she couldn’t make that last leap to find where she belonged.
