Ka stood at the border and peered out. The haze from the sun made his eyes half lidded, and crimson eyes scanned the area before moving back into the heart of the firekin lands. Though his sister was a guard, he went out on patrols, being a soldier, he wanted to be multi-faceted with things that needed to be done. BUt today, looking at his paws while he stopped atop a dune, he saw they were sore, rubbed wrong in some areas from training and sparring.

Perhaps he tried too hard.

Peering over his shoulder, he felt as if the dark form of something from his past might appear, and he was always on the lookout for if it ever came to that. However, his anxiety was at ease as he saw nothing, sat atop the dune and basked in the sun.

She had been taking a break from the various responsibilities she had found herself saddled with when she stumbled into the area Ka was quietly observing. The red lioness had been lost in thought, not paying attention instead she was just letting her paws take her whereever they felt. She only caught a glimpse of the dark colored male at first and it wasn't until he was peering back over hi shoulder did the lioness realize she was no longer alone.

"It's dangerous to travel alone these days," she stated coolly, well aware that she had not been following her own advice. After a moment of observation, she spoke again. "You look troubled," she paused, briefly worried she may be nosing her way into private business, "did you see something of concern?"

Mii'ah herself looked worn and weary, but perhaps better hydrated since her return from the first excursion to claim water from another territory. She herself had disapproved of the other pride's demands but she could b nothing but thankful for the water their new allies provided. Still the impending war had left many on edge, with fried nerves and she wondered if this male would be one of them.

She looked him over again, green eyes lingering on his paws. "You might want to take it easy..."

As she spoke he wished to suddenly move to turn face and see who had come so close, but as his crimson eyes fell onto the female approaching, he watched her curiously. She was a shade he had not seen before, and it was strange to think there were so many shades of red and orange, this one not frequent among the pride except on her it seemed. She was red, vibrant, but in color, perhaps a little timid, cooler, in comparison to the brazen red upon his own pelt.

"Dangerous, perhaps, but I would dare one of the nergui dogs to have at me," he said making eye contact with her, then pulling it away, looking out to the borders again, "I will protect this pride with all I know, with all I am, let them come again," he spread his toes, claws appearing.

It was evident he was on edge.

"Troubled is one word for it," but he could not let her know why. He only had his curse of seerism, the way he saw it, known to KIdondo and of course his siblings.

No one else could know.

It could endanger others, he believed.

He shook his head at her, with a laugh slipping from his mouth some, "As a soldier of this pride I'll let others take it easy while I watch, besides," he watched her, tail flicking, "for one that says it is so dangerous to travel alone, why are you?"

"I do not doubt your strength," she replied, a small but firm nod of her head followed her words. "But unlike us, the will not fight bravely, nor do we really know what they are capable of..." For a moment she seemed sad, but the feeling was quickly brushed aside. "Of course, help would not be far if needed," she mused thinking of how quickly she had come upon him without even realizing it.

"I see," she replied carefully, trying to decide if it was worth pushing the matter for more of an answer or not. "You may not know me well," she paused to offer a smile, "but I offer my ears to listen if you ever wish to speak of your troubles." It was a small gesture but the lioness wished to be available to anyone in the pride for any reason. This weary soldier was of no exception.

"Even soldiers need to take it easy at times, otherwise they would run themselves ragged," she cautioned, knowing full well herself the cost of over exertion in these dry times. "As I said, everyone needs a minor break from their regular duties and I was taking one from sparring with a talented but inexperienced lioness. Unfortunately I do not always follow my own advice," she laughed lightly shaking her head. "But I am capable of holding my own, I would be a poor soldier if I could not."

They might not fight bravely, might not have shown honor when they attacked the outpost, had attacked that male...but Ka would not let himself fall. He would not allow himself to be lessened to the degree in which he thought of the nergui. They were scoundrels, and should be dealt with as such, if not worse for what they had done.

He watched her, ears swiveling as she spoke. She appeared concerned for his own being, why, he was unsure. A caring lioness, but he hoped that she held the same regard for the entirety of the pride as she did with a sole member. The firekin needed that strength.

"Your ears should not know, nor should any others," he offered a half smile, "but do not worry, I am able to deal with what may come, as my family can."

As she spoke of taking it easy, it was true, "Lack of flourishing water has taken its toll on all, but it shouldn't let us falter. We should not appear weakened, if helped, if they watch."

He blinked, eyes focusing on her, "Who are you?"

She regarded him for a moment after he insisted that none should know what troubled him. Her lips pressed together briefly and her brow crinkled with a mixture of confusion and concern. She remained silent for another minute before she spoke up. "As you wish," she replied, nodding her head as she offered a smile to him again, "but the offer will remain and open one."

"Of course not," she agreed. If anything the drought had made her a stronger lioness. She was not one who feared the lack of water, it was a trial she had endured for sometime on her way into the lands of the firekin, but general concern for her pride would at times define her. Their sources were dwindling but their ambition and desire for justice, as well as to reinstate the fact that the Firekin were a proud, strong pride and not one to be fooled with, were growing ever stronger. It made her proud to be one of many that made up the ranks of their soldiers. "In my eyes, this ordeal has only made us stronger. There is nothing that we cannot overcome," she told him, standing taller with pride.

"One should always know when the proper time for a break is."

She tilted her head slightly, as though she was curious. "My name is Mii'ah," she answered slowly. "I am a soldier, and a proud one at that."

Ka watched her with intrigue, she was not quiet, nor hesitant, at least she was not as prying as his sister. He agreed with ehr, though, for that the lack of water and the threat of the nergui made the pride stronger as a whole. He felt himself grow stronger with every passing day, although his muscles, sometimes, begged to differ. He wanted to continue his training, but did not want to risk losing his muscle mass for lack of water during these times.

While he resided with his siblings, he often found that refuge in the shade was best for keeping cool, but he also felt as if it was his duty, being a brother, to help provide for his siblings whether they wanted it or not. He wanted to bring them water, to bring rain, but it appeared as if he could do neither as of late.

"A soldier huh?" Ka said with a hint of a smirk on his maw, "I wonder why I've not come across you before, Mii'ah, I am a soldier as well, I am Ka."

Mii'ah did not have to worry about the well-being of any of her siblings like Ka did, most remained in the pridelands and others had dispersed at an early age with her mother. Often she would wonder about their well-being and their whereabouts but it wasn't something she concerned herself with often. From the very beginning, she had a separated life from most of her siblings. Perhaps that was what had provided her with some of the motivation to leave the safety and comfort of the pridelands in favor for the harsh, but rewarding, environment of the Firekin.

Either way, she never once regretted her decision to move to the desert.

"Yes," she replied with a nod. "There are many of us," she said, though she herself wondered how she had not at least seen him among the many. "But I must admit," she began keeping her gaze steady. "I haven't been very social with most, I have a small circle," she looked down, then back up quickly. "I've spent much time around a water seeker, a historian and her brother, one of the brigadiers." She shrugged as finished speaking. "Though it is something I aim to change," she told him quickly. "After all, we cannot work as one if we do not know each other," she mused thoughtful. "It's a pleasure to meet you Ka."

Ka watched her while she spoke, flicked his tail, ears perking forward listening to her voice. He was not social, or as social, as he should be either. "I've a small..circle, as you refer, as well. Usually with my brother and sister, or close friend that traveled with us here. But that was a while ago, the change of scenery has done us all well, though my sister has not dulled her voice around me much," he hoped if Mii'ah ever met her, that Kai would hold her tongue a bit more.

As Mii'ah described the positions of those she knew readily, he did not know any in those ranks in particular, none that stood out against his memory than others. But again, he knew not a lot of pride members on a easily-remembered-name basis. He usually kept to himself, for fear of what his visions might show him. He figured as Kidondo knew, that was good enough, and he should try to stray away from trouble, even if there was no inkling..yet.

"A pleasure to meet you as well, Mii'ah," he blinked, eyes focused on her.

For a moment, the red lioness wondered if he would know whom she spoke of if she mentioned their names. At the same time she mused that it was unlikely because while they were the children (or at least two of them were), neither seemed to go out of their way to acquaint themselves with others. Of course, Fia was more likely to than her brother, Xipil. Then again, with the new status of Brigadier it was likely that Xipil's name would be more well known among soldiers, especially if they were in his division.

"It must be nice having family around," she commented rather wistfully. There were times where she wished that one of her more strong-willed siblings had accompanied her on her journey but knew that many had taken after her father in coloration and would have been turned away. She wouldn't have wished for them to travel the whole way here only to be turned away.

"Tell me Ka, if you don't mind my asking, but how long have you and your siblings resided here?" A simple conversation starter for simple small talk.

"Usually, my brother is rather quiet and reserved and as of late, has been going off to do..whatever he does," Ka said with a wave of his paw, "he used to be very reserved and barely spoke. Perhaps he found something to peak his interests," Ka wondered if it was a female, but he didn't need to embarrass Ryujin, not yet. "My twin sister, however, never seems to keep quiet, I wish she was more silent, especially in the early morning," Ka said with a sigh.

"We've been here for a long time now, we were young when we first began our journey here, hearing stories, but we came anyway." Ka was trying to remember...it had to be just after the rebellion, perhaps? It seemed so long ago. "It was a long while back, not too long, I assure you," Ka said with a smirk. He didn't need others thinking he was old as an elder.

"I wish the rains would return and bring water as we used to have. Have you been here for a long while?" If so, he wondered if she remembered those times when the sands were so dry, just as the air was. It made Ka thirsty thinking about it.

She was surprised to hear that he had a twin, mainly because she hadn't seen anyone that looked like him around. Of course she hadn't seen anyone that looked like him until now. "It can be fun, being a little loud every now and then," she commented, her tone light and almost playful. "You seem rather reserved yourself, having a loud sister probably balances you out." She didn't know much of their family dynamic but it had been how her family had worked. She had been louder, determined to go out and do something with herself while her siblings had been content with life, happy to remain where they were being pampered by their father.

She'd never much cared to have things just handed to her.

Where was the reward without the work?

"That's how I came here, stories that is," she told him when he gave her a little insight into who he was and where he came from. He didn't provide her with much but she knew better than to pry. They had only just met, it wouldn't do her good to be too nosy. "The idea of having to earn your right to be here, to prove you were worthy had been fascinating to me. I'd always wanted more for myself, this had been exactly what I had been looking for," she confided in him, though it was no real secret.

She thought about it for a moment before she answered him. "A bit, but not nearly as long as you have been. I came before the drought but not much longer than," she admitted almost sheepish. "But I spent my fair share of time out in the desert while I made my why here. Lack of water is something I had become accustomed to during my travel and trust me, adjusting had not been easy when water had been so accessible before."

"It is strange, how different it is from then and now, once green, everywhere, if you can believe," he said with a smirk, "grass, far as you could see and water, plentiful where you looked. But we came here for home, our hearth to house our inner fires, and we will remain here, regardless of what comes our way."

Kai watched her, she seemed eager to be here, to have this home, and so did he. But he worried some, for his past to return here, but he hoped that would never be the case.

"Perhaps, you were right," he said laying his head upon his paws, closing his eyes, ears flicking forward to have her know he still listened to her presence, "perhaps rest for now will be fine."

"Isn't it? I find it fascinating how different the terrains can be from neighboring prides. Occasionally I wonder how the endless grass can transition into the harsh, and sometimes unforgiving, desert," she commented thoughtfully. Still, having had the option of choosing where she ended up, she would pick the desert over and over again. Even during the drought because while it was causing the pride to suffer it was in the end strengthening them. She hadn't been here long but she could see how they had softened from their threatening past.

She found herself smiling when he decided to heed her advice and seek some rest. "Don't linger too long in the sun," she playfully cautioned, "your dark fur attracts the sun more than most and could lead to quick dehydration." She had the feeling he already knew this but dehydration could be deadly in this time of the drought.

"Though I have only just met you, I find that I'm...comfortable around you?" She chose her words carefully. "I don't know many at this time and as such, would like to know if you would care to accompany me on some of the patrols and potential scouting opportunities sometime?"

He stood, shook himself of the sand that had become almost taught against his fur and looked about, he would find somewhere to rest in the shade for a little while now, as per her suggestion. It was true his deep black pelt gave him no ease from the sun's rays, some days he wondered what it would be like to have a white pelt in the sun, perhaps the thirst would not bother him so much then.

"I'll head to shade shortly," and at her request, he quirked a brow, ears swiveling forward, crimson eyes focused on her and he blinked.

He could not say no, though, as a soldier, and a lion, he would protect and serve as he could.

"I shall, just merely find me within the dunes, I don't usually stay within the heart of the pride, too many others around," he liked being out in the open, where, if the nergui came, none could sneak up behind him. "But, be wary from a distance, my sister looks as I do, without the mane of course," he said with a laugh.
