A Wandering Esper

Beloved Stargazer

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. His mother had asked a favor of him, which... was both unusual and heartwarming. Echo was trying hard to give him the space he needed, even through Lament knew it was hard for her. Hard to see him grow, hard to see him slowly fly away like a fledgling bird.

This was the biggest reason as to why he was knocking at Love's door, through spending some more time with his uncle might not be such a bad idea, either. He carried some books with him, dictionaries. He had been able to identify what he hoped to be an equivalent to Leo's language, he just had to see if his guess had been right, and... well, there was only one way to find out.

Thankfully the one who answered the door when Lament knocked was the young man he had been looking for and not one of his Uncle's aoide. At first the D'Angeline seemed puzzled as to who the visitor was, until he spotted the books in the young god's arms. Oh, you must be Echo's son then? He smiled politely, giving a cursory glance to the other young man's face and hair. How strange, he didn't seem to be much younger than his mother...but such is the way of Gods or at least that is how it seemed. Would you like to come in?

Even if Akakios faced the same language barrier Echo had, he would likely be able to pick out her name from the first sentence at least.

He did not know a lot of it, no, but had committed a few important words to memory, if only to help things along. Still, he had not understood much from whatever Leo had just told him, but his mother's name did give him enough of a guess that this was the man he was looking for.

"Yes." He nodded. "My name." He pointed to himself. It wasn't that he thought Leo was stupid - he was simply hoping associating words to gestures might help a little bit. He had taught his brother to write, yes, but he had never taught anyone another language before. "is Akakios."

He clearly had not understood what Leo's second question was, because he simply waited for the other to lead him in.

"It is nice to meet you...Akakios." Rio had taught him a little of the common language, pleasantries and the like. To the D'Angeline the words sounded rough, the language didn't flow like his native tongue. His accent probably didn't help the matter, the best he could hope for is that he hadn't mangled Lament's name too badly.

Leo wasn't surprised when his second question went unanswered. He took a step back from the door and motioned for the young god to come in. Thankfully he had seen no sign of Love's aoidei today, so Akakios wouldn't have to worry about having to endure teasing, or who knows what else, from Shy and Ishka. While Leo thought Akakios was handsome, he at least knew how to keep his hands to himself and besides Lament was here as a favor from his mother. It wouldn't do to be anything less than polite and respectful.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Oh, hey. That wasn't so bad. No one had told him that he knew some common, already.

Well, all the better, really. And from the look of it, either Leo had not completely mauled his name, or Akakios simply did not mind.

"Thank you." He decided to leave it at that, and see if Leo would understand, as he stepped inside. Come to think of it... He did not remember ever coming inside before.

"I brought some dictionaries." He started, wondering how much Leo might even get from that. Well, they were here to work on it, no ? Through... "Where should we go ?" He looked around for emphasis.

What Akakios would see when he stepped into Love's quarters was a short hallway with tiled floors and six doors, with greenery creeping up the walls from around three of them and a large window at the end of the hall that looked out over the gardens. From what the D'Angeline understood this had been the home of another god before and Rio had just changed it around a little to suit his own needs.

Leo smiled and pushed the door closed gently behind Lament. "The common room should be empty." It irked him a little to have to think so much before speaking, but only practice, time and lessons would remedy that situation. He lead Akakios to the second door on the right side of the hall and opened it. "Make yourself comfortable. Oh..and tea?"

The common room had the same tiled floors as the hallway but softened by rugs. There was a dining area off to the side and the sitting area contained floor couches with lots and lots of pillows. Certainly it was obvious enough that Rio had decorated the place.

The common room was nothing he was too unfamiliar with. The gardens of his parents' room was similar, and he took place onto one cushion. "Ah... Juice, if you have it ?"

Yes, Akakios remembered the one time he had decided to steal a sip from his father's coffee. And, well, he was convinced tea was not much better.

The books he carried were carefully set down on the floor, and then his hands went to gently take off the veil and set it aside - it would be easier to read, that way.

Leo nodded and turned back to head a little further down the hallway to the kitchen. After a few minutes and a little help from Nashwa the D'Angeline returned with a small tray containing two mugs, one with juice for Akakios and the other with tea for himself, and bowl of cut fruit. Had it been later in the day the fruit might have been replaced with cookies, but it seemed a bit early for sweets still. He set the tray on the floor near Lament and settled himself on another cushion.

It was only now that he noticed Lament had set his veil aside, unintentionally giving Leo a better view of the young god's features. He reached for his mug, lifting it to his lips and taking a sip while studied his companion through his eyelashes. A subtle enough gesture that Akakios might not even catch it. He hadn't really been able to see the purple markings below the other's eyes through the veil and they were interesting. "Thank you...for helping with this."

He accepted his own mug with a nod and took a sip from it. The fact that Leo was studying him was not something he noticed at all. "It is not a problem." Lament said with a nod. "Through you seem to know more than what my mother told me, which is a good thing."

He had not been sure how to break the language barrier, otherwise.

"Naam-Desiderio, has been ah..." Leo's cheeks colored just the smallest bit, he had almost called Rio 'Naamah'. It was a sort of private thing between them, that Akakios would not understand at least not without explanation. He paused, looking thoughtful for a moment trying to find the word he sought. "...helpful with that." That among other things, of course. This was Love they were talking about after all! He fiddled with the handle of his mug, trying to school his expression back to something that made him look less like newly made adept.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Leo's expression was interesting, and the slip even more so. It was tempting to try to pry, and if he had not been trying to look at least a tiny bit mature... Well, he would have.

As sad as it made him, he pretended not to notice, as he took a sip from his cup, through his amusement was much harder to hide away. Maybe he could ask Grace to name him, give him a name that no one else would have ?

Hm.

Well, that would be for him to ponder later. "Practice will help a lot. Are there any words in perticular you struggle with ? We can look them up."

"Names for things..." Trying to use D'Angeline words for things did not work so well with anyone besides Rio. He had found that out one morning when he offered to help Najwa in the kitchen. The katta woman had been extremely patient with him, even after having to point out the things she asked him to get. "Its also difficult to.....explain things when I am speaking to someone." Describe was more the word he was looking for, but he did not know it. Adi had asked him about flowers where he was from and when he could explain how they looked he had resorted to drawing them instead.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Having to understand what Leo truly meant was indeed a bit of a challenge, through so far Akakios had more or less followed along. He had his own ease with words, after all, being an author - he had to think about what meanings words could have and he could thus decipher what the mortal had meant to say.

"Common household objects ?" Names for things was... a little vague, he had to admit. "Explaining will get easier as you learn and understand more words, I think." No magic answer there, sadly.
PostPosted: Tue May 01, 2012 3:36 pm

Leo frowned slightly when Kios seemed confused at first. He had managed to not make sense yet again. At least the young god was not frustrated by it. It surprised him somewhat when Lament manage to make sense of it all. He added 'clever' to the mental list of words to describe the one before him.

"Yes...I want to be of help when I can...but its hard." Hard to help do chores and other tasks, when you did not understand what you were being asked to do.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Lament nodded in understanding. He could somewhat relate - when he had been younger, it had been harder to communicate what he felt, or saw - if only because he had not yet known the words.

He opened the first dictionary and began to look. Maybe he should have asked beforehand and actually made a list.

...Or you know, that would still be done. And quicker for Leo to have easy reference on hand than have to whip out a dictionary whenever he needed to look up something. "Is there any paper and a pen nearby ?"
