Vanhi was blossoming in to a fine hunteress in deed. She more then enjoyed her rounds of the hunt and more then enjoyed the praise she got when she brought back something notable and worthy of such attention. Infact, Vanhi would often times go out of her way to get as much praise as she could squeeze out of some one.

Today was a rare day where the dark firekin was allowed to relax and lounge around the pride as she saw fit. This didn't fully please the lioness. In fact, Vanhi found her days when she wasn't hunting quite boring. So the dark lioness wandered the pride with her attention very much else where as she padded about. There was a very distant and far away gaze as she slipped deeper and deeper in thought. Eventually, the lioness just ended up pacing back and forth. Then, a pause. An idea finally happened. She didn't need to take the day off if she didn't want to! She could bring something back and....

Vanhi's paws started to move before that thought could even be finished. It seemed like they already knew what the firekin was thinking.

Mwako'Damu was leaving his secluded training area. He returned to the area multiple times during the day, sometimes, when he needed to be alone but continue to train. There was still a thirst on his tongue, and perhaps an ache in his stomach when he should eat more often, exerting such energy during the day. But with the lack of complete water and sustenance, as a hunter gone soldier in secret, he would not let himself take what others needed. He could suffice on very little.

Walking in the shade of a dune his paws were aching, his right shoulder sore as he was practicing sudden strikes, combinations, at least his claws were sharpened.

He was unsure of what to do with the rest of the day, really, and wondered if he'd find anything to peak his interest.

It didn't take long for the female to set her sights on one of her regular hunting spots. Vanhi continued forward at a slow and eased pace. No need to rush forward like a fool and scare away all the prey. That was if there was anything worth bringing back out and about. Being in such a hot terrain was not always kind in the ways of supplying prey like some of the other areas in Africa.

A large figure caused her to stop in her tracks though. Another firekin no doubt judging from the sheer size and color. At least it was pretty safe to assume firekin and Vanhi of course did. The lioness changed course and stepped to the shadow of the dune. The sand was cooler on her rough paw pads quite noticeably which was nice.

"Nice idea walking in the shade," Vanhi gave a nod of approval to the male.

Mwako'Damu's ears perked when he heard a voice. At once, his fur began to bristle but hearing calm words they settled upon his skin. As she got closer, he noted the varient color in ehr eyes. He'd not seen any like those before.

But her words, they brought him back out of his musings and he stopped, still within the shade to wait to greet her. She was out and about for something. Was she a messenger? He was unsure.

"Every little avoidance helps, especially with the lack of water," and the threat of the nergui, they could be hiding within the dunes, so vast and widespread. "I've not seen your face before," he said it calmly, unthreatening, only curious.

All of a sudden Vanhi felt thirsty with the mention, and reminder, of the lack of water. She smacked her maw a little when it was mentioned with out meaning to. Her train of thought remained on the thought of water until the male pointed out that he'd not seen her face. This earned a bit of a smirk.

"I could say the same for you too bud." She took a few steps closer to get a better look at the male. There was a brief moment of silence on her part as she looked over him, "But now I've seen you I guess. Names Vanhi. I'm just a humble huntress," There was another smirk. Humble was a bit of a stretch. Vanhi was anything but humble and she her self knew that humble was not the word to describe her self.

Mwako'Damu quirked a brow at her. She was ...interesting, different. She seemed to have no need to be soft spoken or reserved like some he had met which was different in the atmosphere the lack of water was causing upon the firekin. Especially, in congruence with the nergui close at paw.

"Mwako'Damu," he said with a slight dip of his head. He watched her while he did so. Humble huntress, interesting words to chose for one to describe themselves, if they were humble indeed.

"And as such a huntress, how have you fared while hunting, with the water being at minimum, and the nergui threat, might I ask, Vahni?" he asked curiously.

He did wonder how others were doing with all that was happening.

The male, or Mwako,Damu, offered his name up calmly and pleasantly which earned him a wider smirk. She focused on him as he talked and listened.

The dark lionesses maw opened and then closed trying to find the words for 'its really barren'. There was no way to dance around it to make her self sound better though. Vanhi let out a deep and frustrated sigh.

"Well..." She began, "Its not easy. Don't get me wrong. Of course we bring things back but just ..." She dipped her head down some. Admitting that it was not easy to bring back food made her feel like a failed hunter. It hurt her pride. "It can't be helped I suppose." She smacked her maw again. The thought of water had returned with a vengeance and it made her mouth feel like sand paper.

"It is difficult, this I know," Mwako said solemnly. Perhaps she might catch on he, too, was a hunter. But he saw himself as both hunter and soldier, though he trained in private. Truly, only Fia knew where he trained. He shifted his body weight to look at her, tail curling then settling.

"I assume it might become more difficult if the nergui are stalking the same prey we wish to capture if near the borders," he looked out towards the borders, his paws settling into the sand further.

"We must watch all we can, and capture what we can for those here. For those unable to find their own meals, and for those who can't go far from what water we have," his mother, for example, could not go far at all. There was something happening with her she would not discuss with him, and it made Mwako'Damu worry.

"You have family here, Vahni?"

She still hadn't picked up that he was a hunter as well even with the hint he just dropped. Instead her mind was selfishly on how imbarrassed she was about admitting the difficulty it was to bring back good meat. He got a half assed 'uh huh' when he let her know it was difficult. She did snap out of it the moment that Mwako went in to the nergui topic though.

"Its a pretty big responsibility thats for sure." Her head was still kept a little low. There was no need to mention it had been at least five days since she'd personally actually found something to kill and bring back. There was even less need to mention it had been a sickly calf.

"Family?" The topic shifted from scarcity of food and the rivalry with the nergui to family? The lioness blinked at him. "Yeah I have two moms and a lot of siblings." The lioness gave him a nod. "Why do you ask?" She leaned in curiously.

"The responsibility falls on us all," Mwako'Damu said with a nod. When she spoke of her family, he shifted his weight from one leg to the other, listening, he was curious to know if they had seen the nergui, interacted, been at the outpost. He had nothing to go on when out, nothing to go on when looking for signs of intruders.

"How did they fare...when, they came?" he said hesitantly, after speaking, he wondered if he should have asked her. He only hoped they had fared well and perhaps had not even seen them, but then again, he wished they did so he would have something to go on for looks of the intruding nergui.

"I've not seen them myself, and I'm not sure how many others have gotten too close to them, I don't even know what they necessarily look like. Was not sure if you knew."

"I don't believe that anyone in my family actually saw them.. My self included," Vanhi tossed her tongue to her right check and licked at her tooth as she thought about 'them'. She had over heard talk about them before but had never actually engaged in the chatter her self. Part of her just wanted them to be the boogieman of the desert but the lioness knew they were as real as the sand beneath her paws.

"I think its good to ask around though. You never know who might know something," She had stopped sucking on her tooth. It was hot and she was thirsty. It felt like the inside of her mouth was made of clay. Sadly, it was a feeling the lioness was growing used to with each passing day.

"The most important thing now is just to survive I suppose. You said it your self. The responsibility falls on us all," She gave him a cocky smile, "So you care to help me on another hunt?" Even if it could be fruitless or even dangerous. Danger didn't frighten Vanhi unless it was staring her in the face. Even then she'd pretend it didn't frighten her. It was easy to sit in the shadows of a dune and discuss 'them' and pretend they were imaginary for a moment.

"I mean theres safety in numbers after all. You wouldn't let a humble huntress as my self go out alone .. would you?" Again she used the word humble as if it suited her. And on top of it all she made her self sound almost defenseless. Vanhi, while not a soldier, was still very much a firekin and by no means completely defense with her inherited massive size for a lioness.

At least she and her family had been safe. Mwako'Damu did not want any others to fall to the nergui's paws, not while he breathed within the firekin lands. He thought, once, if he wanted to go out on patrols like a sentinel, perhaps he might see his sister and brother that had left. But, again, he thought of his mother, his other siblings here, and he did not want to leave them. He wanted to be their protector, and a protector of the pride. He would stay, and he would protect and fight if he needed to.

He watched her as she spoke, and it seemed like she and none she knew had seen the nergui. The swine. But, it also appeared as though others were curious as to what they looked like, how their appeared, what might happen if they were to return. It was good to ask questions, as she seemed to agree, so he felt no harm done, nothing was out of place by his words asking her such things. They were, in fact, part of the same pride and thus, part of the same family.

Mwako'Damu knew it was everyone's responsibility to try and contribute, if their body and mind allowed it, to keep the pride healthy. He would do all he could, if asked, by Kidondo, if it came to it.

As she smiled, he quirked a brow at her.

If she required his aid, or chaperone, he would go with her. Safety was in numbers.

"If you require, yes," he said simply, "I'll be sure to watch over you," he took a few steps and waited for her, stopped, peered over his shoulder at her and swept a paw in front of him, "Shall we?" he asked.

Seems his day, which he believed to be boring, turned out all right in the end.

He could aid another, and it felt good.

"We shall~" She gave him a nod of her head in agreement. There were in deed safety in numbers and with the threat it was probably a good idea to stick with some one. Vanhi's pride had gotten the best of her earlier and she had pig headedly headed out to the hunt with out thinking. Luckily she'd stumbled upon Mwako and had a moment to let her brain breath. Now she was reminded of the dangers. It was not worth risking your life for pride.

Vanhi slowly got on her paws and started up the dunes side toward the hunting grounds. Perhaps the two could work out a buddy system of some sort for the hunt. Perhaps. Vanhi would see.

"After you ~" She waited at the top of the dune.
