Being only human it has been shown to me time and time again that compared to other 'more advanced' alien races our minds are limited. Apparently all that unused brain capacity hinders us as any sort of Lantern.
The ring is only a hundred percent effective when I am focused on using it, therefor it has happened a number of times where my ring 'short circuited' because of other stronger emotions.
Fear has also played a role in my ring, overcoming it can prove to make me stronger but it is difficult. My ring has powered down because of fear as well but at the same time I have been able to pull of some amazing s**t when scared to death.
When it comes down to it I am my own worst enemy.

Being a Lantern it helps, exorbitantly so, if your mind is opened up to new things and ideas. Mel enjoys going around and finding out new things, and though this trait is more common in her facade it has shown during a couple of missions. This has allowed her to come up with all sorts of new contraptions with her ring and has saved her a** a couple of times...apparently curiosity can either kill or save the cat.
Because of her receptive nature she has found herself trying out new things allowing her more outlets to fall back on when she does find herself excessively stressed including; arts (singing, drawing, dancing, building -lego's-, baking), brain teasers (Sudoku, IQ tests, the little section in the news paper). Which are a lot of hobbies, Mel is known for.

For as long as sh could remember Melinda has had an issue with her things not being organized. She has learned that through organization efficiency comes naturally. When she took up the mantel as lantern and then began her 'alter ego' it took her months to 'de-organize' her room, she had finally come up with an 'organized mess'. While it may look to others that her apartment is full of all sorts of art crap, books, shoes thrown about there it is indeed organized. She can find everything, though for the facades purpose she 'searches' around and appears frantic in doing so.

Because of her obvious need for a secret identity, one who only knew the civilian Melinda Moore, may never come to the conclusion that she is the hyped up female Lantern from Vegas who was known to make a show out of a thing or two when she could. Some traits do stick and those who do know the both sides of the Lantern couldn't possibly see her as anything but the Maturely Modest female who knew how to cut a sly joke or play coy when needed. She is not one to brag over her successes or think too much of what she does, normally claiming that it is just "part of the job" or something "anyone would/should do"

Facade: Melinda has been able to build up a second 'appearance' to keep enough attention off of her and leave her one of the last people anyone would consider in being the Lantern from Vegas. Stewart was the one to mention it to her during some of their first encounters. "Your ring has altered your appearance so you are not immediately recognized perhaps making it easier for you to build up a civilian life. Don't waste that opportunity." She hadn't originally planned on taking his advice but he more she thought about it and the more real the whole 'hero' thing became...the more sense it made.
At first it was difficult for her to fall into the role but now after years of practice the Lantern naturally falls out of her 'dutiful mature' persona that she is known for as a (Liz) Lantern and into her 'jovial 'unorganized' child-like' civilian (Mel) persona.
This is just a cover-up she put a lot of work into, none of her natural traits are lost. They are just suppressed or hidden extremely well, list below are the 'changes.'
Vegas?!: As to how exactly she ended up in Vegas, she hasn't disclosed. Though she has been known to get violent whenever the matter is pressed.
