The cool waters of the watering hole sloshed quietly on tot he paw printed bank as Dooley came to a stop. The huge pale lion smiled to himself and laid down slowly. Turning his head the big male passes a gentle sweet smile at the little lioness that was on his back. He had carried her this far without any problem, if anything he wasn't even tired but the lionesses needed to be patched up and he guessed his fur would need a wash judging by the scent of blood that emanated from the silky lioness.
"Can you get off or do you need a hand?" He raises a brow curiously. "Wessex will sort your leg out for you." He flickers his tail a little resting his gentle blue eyes on the little lioness sprawled across his spine. "And we won't be going any where any time soon, so you can rest. I'll make sure no harm comes to you."The monochrome hound laughs gently "Rest a moment while I find something to bind your leg." The pale dog wags her tail and pads off down the bank of the watering hole searching for leaves and moss, things she knew would be handy to use as a bandage. Pottering back the female jackal lays down a few long leaves, moss and some twigs. She nods happy with her finds. "Lay here ma'am I'll cover your leg so you don't get an infection."

When it was clear she was only in the way Rin had taken flight, looping in wide circles overhead in a corkscrew higher into the sky. She didn't go far though, watching the three figures below with keen eyesight. Even if she was certain it was unlikely that there would be trouble, the hawk liked to keep her wits about her just in case, ready to dive with talons bared at the first sign of Chai's distress. As assumed though, there wasn't any and before long the strange quartet was off on a new journey. Three by land and one by air, occasionally swooping low to discuss directions with the jackal who had suggested a watering hole be their next destination. From her vantage point far above their heads it was easy for Rin to help guide the way. Not that the pair weren't proving perfectly capable of finding their way of their own accord. All things considered, they were far more capable than Chai.
There were a lot of things she had been planning for him when she'd finally had his full attention; a frustrated speech about how foolish he was to act so recklessly and an accompanying slap across the face to make her point. Maybe she would have even demanded he mind his own business. Whatever Asali'kama Chai had intended, it never did see fruition.
Her cavalier savior introduced himself with a kind smile and even warmer eyes and left the tactless rogue fumbling. Always the awkward one.
She had thought she could at least push him away and save herself some dignity, yet like a kitten she curled slightly as he grabbed her scruff and maneuvered her gently onto his back in complete silence. Paws gripping at the powerful body beneath her for dear life once they had begun the move to... somewhere or other, honestly Chai was too discombobulated to pay much attention. Waiting the entire time for Rin to chime in and save her from the embarrassment of it all.
For once the opinionated hawk seemed to have nothing to say. Well, nothing to say to her. On the other paw, she seemed to rather chummy with Dooley's jackal companion, Wessex, he had called her.
Now why could she remember that with perfect clarity?
Slender tail seemed to tick in time with exasperated thoughts which had distracted her from their voyage thus far, releasing her grip on the muscular figure only once he had stopped completely. I can..
The quiet murmur fell off her tongue demurely, planting first the hindpaw on her able side before attempting to bare weight on the other. Surprised by the pain that rolled up her spine Chai winced and held tightly to Dooley for a moment. Waiting to grow comfortable with the hurt before baring her weight fully upon both haunches. Realizing who she clung to though made it difficult to be patient, forcing herself the release him whether she was ready to or not. I can do it..
More to convince herself than anyone else the mantra was repeated a few more times under her breath, every half-hearted step on her right hind leg wobbled nearly right out from beneath her though. Body tense in defense against the ache and glad when she had finally reached the beckoning medic. Sinking onto her pale belly with a frown, stare idle on her forepaws. I wouldn't want to stay... where I'm not welcome.
Having helped Wes gather the odds and ends needed to patch up her frumpy friend Rin sat nearby, scoffing loudly.Well, anyway! Thanks for saving our tails back there. My name is Rin and this pint-sized peanut is Asali'kama Chai... call her what you will though. I'm sure she won't object.

The big pale male watched Chai carefully moving his bulky body every so often to make sure she wasn't going to fall over. His pale gentle blue eyes looked her over, she was hurt and it upset him to see her hurt. She seemed so vulnerable and the hero in him couldn't stand to see a damsel in distress. he seemed to stubbornly not want him to assist her but he couldn't help it. That was what he was, that was what he did, he helped people, especially those that clearly needed his help.
Moving close to the jackal and hawk the big lion smiles lightly at the lioness and lowers his head. "Can you fix it Wes?"
The small jackal looks at her friend and licks his nose tenderly "When can't I fix a bite wound?" She wrinkles her nose and turns her attention tot he lioness. She licks Chai's wound once again cleaning away the dried blood from the wound. She pads the wounds with moss and places a large leaf over the tip before binding carefully with thin strong grasses.
The monochrome jackal sits back and admires her handy work "There." She wrinkles her nose happily.
Dooley stands up and looks at the make shift bandage. Great work as always Wes." He smiles and licks the pale jackal head making her fur all spiky.
"Ugh, Dooley, do you mind?" She chuckles and shakes her head. "That should do for the moment but it will need to be changed regularly until it's healed over. Course I can do that for you so you don't need to worry about it."

Craning her neck to watch, eyes blue as the sky and equally as clear admired Wessex's ability to mend her wound so quickly. Obviously she wasn't kidding when she'd said that she'd had a lot of practice on Dooley, though it raised questions. Unfamiliar with the fire pelts of the Motoujami pride Chai couldn't help but wonder what grounds there were to be caught up in so many battles. The behemoth lion didn't seemed to possess the sort of malevolent temperament necessary to make an enemy of everyone he came across. Even the hyena from earlier had been met with a passive sort of aggression, though he was capably dispatched.
It was just strange.
You're really wonderful. I... I can't thank you enough. A voice filled with astonishment addressed the skilled jackal first, before the words expanded to encompass the pair. Gaze hesitant to lift towards the pale hero. ...both of you are, even if I want to smack you for putting yourself in danger. M-my life doesn't carry any weight to it.. it's silly for anyone to try and preserve it.
Rolling her eyes Rin hopped sideways several steps, closing the distance between herself and the melancholy lioness. Stretching forward to snag one of Chai's sensitive whiskers and yank it abruptly. Just stop! Stop talking like that already!
A sharp tone suggested the feathered navigator and companion didn't want to hear any objection, though she was liable to hear it anyway. It would be good for us to team up, at least for a while anyway. At the very least the extra eyes will do us some go-- stop shaking your head!
Forelock flipping two and fro with the motion, Chai resisted rather stubbornly, muzzle scrunched in defense as she tried to flatten her whiskers from further abuse. N-no.. I never meant to involve anyone else. I'm sorry you two got dragged into my mess, I didn't know I was so close to pride territory..
Clearly the little female was confused, but then given the state of warrior with his glossy coat--unfortunately now stained with her blood--and well build physique he didn't look like any rogue Chai had ever come across. Even she was in shabby condition, underfed and rather rough looking given the nature of her traveling habits. Adding in a small murmur as she ducked her head sheepishly, I didn't mean to bring a hyena into your lands..

"You're quite welcome, it was my pleasure, I hate to see any creature being bullied and that Hyena he was clearly out for blood." The big lion shakes his head and huffs "I wish he had left sooner I really didn't want to hurt him." He smiles a slightly guilty smile looking away in to the near distance in a sort of thoughtful manner. He was of course thinking of his birthplace and the need to fight to be the strongest and to be aggressive, they had trained him well but he had a calm loving heart and the aggression of the sands had not followed him when he left as an adolescent.
"Our lands? Oh, oh no we were just passing through and happened to see you in trouble." Dooley chuckles quietly his voice low and calming despite his imense size he radiated calm and quiet, a poise clearly ingrained in to him.
"We're on our way to a pride not too far from here, we hard about it and decided we had had QUITE enough of wandering about as rogues." He smiles softly at the little lioness and looks across at Wessex "The pooch here much preferes to be surrounded by other creatures she gets very bored just being with me."
Wessex barks a laugh and pounces at the big male lion she nips playfully at his gigantic paws "Ignore him this big fluffy softy hates being out of a pride. Its a small mirricle he has been a rogue this long. Misses the comfort of a den full of lions." She smiles a gentle motherly smile at the huge lion "Truth is we both miss being in a pride. Its no fun being alone even if we have always been together." She barks a little yipping bark and turns her attention to Rin and Chai.
"You know you should both come with us. I have heard the pride is juge and welcomes all new comers, it would be a much more confortable place for you. I think maybe you arn't suited for the rogue life either." She smiles a wrinkly nosed smile at the slender lioness, the little dog fully realised that she was in a bad way, alone wandering, this was no place for a lady, especially a lone one, the rogue savannah was a lonely place for anyone but it could be dangerous if you couldn't defend yourself properly. She thanked her lucky stars every day that she was with Dooley.
"Thats a very good idea Wes, would you both like to come with us? Its only a few more days walk south and we will be at the borders of the pride lands."

I guess I couldn't blame him for that.. Admitting grimly Chai realized that Dooley and Wessex still didn't know the whole story about the rough encounter with that hyena. They didn't know a lot of things about her, truth be told, and she wasn't sure they would have looked so kindly on her if they did. With that particular realization dawning, glossy blue eyes avoided the both of them. Filled with a sense of uncertainty. She was glad though, that the valiant hero had sent her opponent away without killing him, even if Chai hadn't wanted him to eat that foal, she had never planned to have him killed. I'm really glad that you let him escape though. That.. it means a lot to me.
Staring at the grasshopper crawling over her paw the warmth of the massive lion's laughter was comforting, though she wasn't sure if she deserved to be comforted by it. Surprise drawing her chin up sharply to stare at the pair. W-wait, you mean.. we're still in the rogue lands... and you.. you're rogues?
Disbelief dripped from her milky muzzle. That was as hard to believe as her being Hodari'pona's daughter though--she had to point out to herself--that however unlikely it seemed, it was true. S-sorry, I don't mean to gawk.. it's just.. I've never seen a rogue that looked---quite like you before.
It was clearly a compliment by the way the lioness blushed and lowered her eyes in embarrassment, but he must have already known he was handsome, right? Handsome and kind... and protective..... and strong. Chai had to wonder why there wasn't a female attached to his hip yet. Her quiet smile extending to Wes as the jackal pounced at her companion with an endlessly playful spirit. They seemed meant for one another, like a friendship that had always been and always would. Is it that obvious..?
Amused by the comment about how unsuited for the rogue life she was, the goddess-winged lioness wondered if they'd believe she'd only had her whole life to become used to the ugly ways of solitude in these desolate lands. Chai didn't know anything else, though she hoped that she would soon enough since she too was on a journey to a new pride. Head shaking gingerly, N-no.. I cou--
Rin had been good, she'd managed to stay quiet all this time, simply observing the other three as they held idle and--in some instances more probing--conversation. Aquamarine stare swiveled from the heroic male and trusty sidekick to her awkwardly fumbling traveling partner and back again with quiet interest. How long had it been since the shrinking violet had spent this long talking to one of her own? How long had it been since she'd talked to anyone at all? Somehow, it all seemed like a little more than coincidence that they were heading in the same direction and as the honey and milk colored savannah cat attempted to ruin everything Rin couldn't simply sit by and watch.
We accept! Hopping onto of Chai's head to force her mouth closed with a click of teeth the hawk interrupted boldly. Bobbing her head firmly, she added with a flourish of her wings. We were headed that way too! With you two along we'll get there much quicker, Chai has been walking us in circles for the past three days!

Dooley nodded and smiled softly at her compliments "There was no need to kill the creature. It is its nature to be like that, punishing it for its wrongs just isn't right. If it had left I wouldn't have had to knock it out." He sighs a slightly exasperated sigh. "I don't really like violence but sometimes it is nessecary."
He barks a laugh as the little lioness gawps at him, and an embarressed flush clearly colours his cheeks. "Its easier to live out here than in the sands. I was born in the firekin, but my colouration stopped me from remaining so I became a rogue at adolecence and now I have had enough of wandering. Its time to lay down some roots, its time to have a home again." He smiles and clears his throat, looking at the pale bird companion of the pretty lioness. "Good, I'm glad you're coming with us. We'll have to stay put for a day or two while your leg gets better but Wes and i can hunt while you recover then we cna hot foot it to the pride lands."
The pale dog shakes her head softly her deep chcolate brown eyes resting upon the clearly stubborn lioness. "Dooley was well trained to care for himself before we came to the rogue lands. And his size, well thats just something most firekin have, theres very few small lions in the sand lands." She wrinkles her nose in a happy smile "Of course they arn't all quite as lovely as Dooley." She sits for a moment looking thoughtful.
"Speaking of food perhaps we should have a little hunt before we sleep." She moves down the big lions back and licks quickly at his back leg where the lionesses blood had stained his fur "you big scruff, did you forget about that?" She laughs cleaning the blood from his fur quickly and efficiently.
Dooley rolls his eyes. "I didn't forget Wes, I just got distracted by the beautiful lady." He winks at Chai and smiles a sweet smile "would you like something to eat? I can hunt and fetch somehting more than big enough for the four of us."

Trying to shake the feathered burden off her head, furrowed brows attempted to direct rather pointed look at the bird who seemed to be purposely avoiding her accusatory stare. What in the name of green grass had gotten into Rin? Was she crazy? Traveling beside this pair--traveling beside him made her heart miss several beats.
Hadn't she made enough of a zebra's a** of herself already?
Dooley's sigh drew her attention to his striking calico features, to eyes that--despite their azure hue--were warm and inviting. Whatever was going through his mind Chai prayed it wasn't regret. He had been down right valiant in his efforts to remain non-violent with the hyena and had nothing to carry shame for. I saw you try not to hurt him, you did everything you could.. you have no reason to feel guilty over it.
A reassuring smile tucked into the corners of her muzzle, pink nose crinkling cutely with the expression. Further deepening in response to the charming staccato of his laugh, had she really embarrassed him? It was hard to imagine it would have been that easy, but the color upon his strong face seemed to suggest that she had done the unthinkable. Hard to imagine there is a place harsher than the rogue lands, but I've never known anything else... so it's hard for me to imagine a lot of things.
Pausing for a moment to further digest the information being fed to her the cream colored mink found her smile fell rather suddenly at one particular realization. You.. you were forced to leave your home.. because of your pelt? T-that's horrible!
Especially considering what a grand pelt it was! A sorrow that verged on outrage forced Chai to her feet as if she couldn't possibly take such cruelty laying down. W-why would they do that? Why didn't anyone stop them?! Didn't your mother have anything to say? If that ever happened to one of my cubs I.... I...
Feeling the fight drain out through her paws into a puddle beneath her, the meek rogue sunk heavily onto her haunches, painfully hanging her head. ...I just.. I hope they realize what they've lost. I'm sorry.. I'm not.. very hungry..
Despite the discomfort of moving, lithe rump was turned towards her new traveling companions as Chai sought out a spot deeper beneath the shade of a tree with low, veiling branches.
Asali.. Rin tried to chime in, having found herself a comfortable perch in the thick bed of hair between Dooley's ears. An almost mournful trill calling the broken lioness back, to no avail. Breathing a long sigh at the mysterious backside she ruffled herself and plucked gently at the black and white ear closest to her. Peering down at the rusted brown forehead below her and Wessex somewhere closer to the ground than that. She should eat. We haven't had anything in a while. I can even help hunt.

The big male seemed surprised at her reaction but, he thought it was normal, it was normal for the pride he had been raised in. He was a Huria, and that was the way of the pride. He stands and follows after the pale lioness sitting down behind her he lowers his head and nudges one of her ears gently. "Don't feel sorry for me lovely." He whispers "My pride, they are proud warriors, and their coat colour is important to them. I was trained my whole life to leave and to be able to care for myself, they provided for me and I am glad I am free of the pride. Fighting, being a warrior, it isn't for me Chai, I want to live a quiet life where I don't have to battle for everything, where fighting isn't a way of life."
He licks her ear gently and looks up through his pale tan mane at the bird resting between his ears. "Lets go and get something to eat. Wes, you stay here with Chai and howl if you see anything coming." He looks backwards at his permanent companion and smiles.
He rolls his shoulders and starts to pad away glancing back briefly to check that the two were settled before breaking in to a quick, loping run. "Find me something meaty Rin and I'll see it fetched back."
The monochrome dog nods her head and barks "Okay Dooley, fetch us back something big and juicy I could eat a whole wilderbeest on my own!" She laughs and pads to sit squarely in front of Chai licking the lionesses nose. "He misses his family some days but he knows they are safe and that he can make new friends and find new family." She smiles a little wrinkle nosed smile and wags her tail.
"Like you and Rin, we may be a bit unusual but Dooley is my family and you guys can be too, so don't be sad, we aren't and we are going to a new and wonderful place. The pridelands is a peaceful place full of friendly creatures and hardly any fighting, its a place to find family." She smiles hopefully cheering the lioness up.

Startled by the silent presence that had followed her, Chai sprang just an inch or two beneath the warm breath and gentle touch that nuzzled the velvet fur of her pale ear. How had things gotten so flopped around? Shouldn't she have been the one comforting him for being rejected by only home he'd ever known? Then again, Dooley had his whole childhood to accept the gravity that it was only a matter of time before he'd eventually be expected to leave the Firekin. The empathetic lioness had been given only a few minutes. Soothed by his reassuring words, even if she still felt an ache in her breast for his loss, Chai sighed heavily. A new hue of pink darkening her features when his tongue grazed the same spot he had nuzzled earlier causing her face to tuck into his chest. Velvet words little more than a murmur under her breath, You're too wonderful..
Ready. Bobbing in acknowledgment when her new hunting partner spoke to her, Rin prepared herself for flight. Wings and tail wagging before a sudden, awkwardly springing take off. With several hard wing beats she was once again soaring gracefully, stretching her pale form across the blue sky before fluttering low enough to her companions to hear the conversation. Scoffing humorously at the giant calico predator's words as he lunged forward into a run. I'll find it! Just make sure you can catch it!
Challenging him with a wry smirk the elegant hawk surged higher from her coasting position just above Dooley's head, getting a better view of the vast savannah in search of a nearby herd. There were several in the vicinity, but Rin ruled out the twiggy gazelles from the hunt. Between two lions, a jackal and herself there might not be enough meat to go around. Instead the thoughtful raptor circled over the heads of a milling group of Elands cows nearby. Slow though they were, they were also enormously bulky prey beasts. One Chai would have never dared attempt to hunt which left Rin wondering if this pale desert cat was capable of it, swooping low again to address him. We're coming on a herd of elands.. think you can take one down efficiently?
Still tucked into the cool shade near the watering hole small paws gently hugged Wessex, nuzzling against the little dog's wet nose. You're right.. I hope the pridelands are as amazing as you say and I hope.. we're all happy there.

The big male lion gave an affirmative nod "Yes, I can take down an eland." He chuckles and looks up giving a confident smile. Getting his bearings from the hawk, he bolts of in the direction of the herd.
His approach was careful, thoughtful and despite his giant size he managed to make himself virtually invisible to the herd. He lay quietly waiting for some time, waiting for one to stray just a little too far from the rest of the herd. His chance game when a young bull pulled away from the herd and lowered its head to graze.
The massive white lion dove from his hiding spot engulfing the creature easily. His frame, though not quite as bulky as the young bull managed to pull the creature to its back while the rest of the herd scattered. He quickly took its life, his strong jaw fastening on the creatures throat. It didn't kick for long and once it had stopped Dooley released the beast and without a second thought he tossed the creature across his body, the scruff of its neck gripped tightly in his jaws. He looks up briefly at the hawk and starts to trot back towards the watering hole.
Wessex had nodded off on one of Chai's paws while waiting for Dooley to return but her nose twitched and her ears flickered long before the tan maned lion came in to view. Sitting up obediently the little pale dog wagged her tail happily. "Theres a lion-cow coming our way." She giggles and shakes her head "Either that or I am hallucinating." She grins playfully and points a paw at the horizon.
It didn't take long for Dooley to march in to the small oasis surrounding the watering hole. Depositing the creature he had killed he sits and welcomes the pale Jackal grooming her fur.
Wessex wags her tail happily and yaps a little puppyish bark "Well its a shame you couldn't bring anything bigger back!" She laughs and licks his nose happily before looking at Chai. "He's very good at hunting you know?" she smiles, a pleased almost motherly smile.
The big male lion chuckles softly "Well dig in, ladies first."

Laying with an almost regal, sphinx-like silhouette if not for the bandaging that patched her hind leg, Chai was content to watch over Dooley's dearly beloved jackal companion. Feeling a mixture of anxiety and pride to be left alone and entrusted with the task of protecting Wessex who slept so peacefully. Head pillowed by her paw. Her mind strayed, despite an effort to relax, wondering how far the pair had traveled in search of food and if they would be back before the night fall.
Grinning humorously at the confident tone in Dooley's voice Rin simply bobbed her head, nodding her understanding. Careful not to disturb the herd the massive lion encroached upon the hawk flew in loose circles over head. Only when it was clear that her hunting partner had chosen his prey did she swoop lower to be sure that the rest of the elands would not be alerted or interfere. Not that the ever adept sand cat seemed to need her help, muscular frame wrestling the even thicker grazer to the ground where it was quickly dispatched.
Chai will be pleased to know it didn't suffer. An approving shout called from above as they began the slightly more arduous trek back to the watering hole. Sharp eyes keeping watch for any potential scavengers that might consider attempting to steal the meal--or at least take a chunk out of it while Dooley was indisposed.
Taking note of the encumbered figure in the distance and her pale, feathered friend Chai rose to her paws lightly along with Wessex, smiling as she gingerly hobbled to greet her calico hero. Awed by his kill and the fact that he had brought it back on his own she couldn't seem to find the words to express her amazement. N-no.. I couldn't. You should enjoy your kill while it's warm... I don't mind waiting.

The big pale male smiled softly "Please, you need it more than I I would much prefer to see you eat your fill than to leave you hungry. Wessex and I only fed yesterday so we can wait." He settles down in the shade and stretches out his paws cleaning his pale and dusty toes.
Wessex yaps and nudges Chai "He won't eat til you do dear." She wags her tail and nods to Rin. "We can wait you ladies should fill your stomachs we'll keep watch for any scavengers." She trots over to Dooley and sits beside him her body tucked in to his side.
Dooley looks at the monochrome dog and grooms her head gently his deep soft blue eyes smiling. Turning his gaze to Chai he tilts his head "Please. We'll watch for scavengers while you eat then we can switch."

O-okay.. However reluctant she was to dine first, Asa wasn't rude enough to decline their offer a second time. Circling around the eland bull until she sat at the behemoth grassland wanderer's belly. With a long look at the prey beast from muzzle and glassy, lifeless eyes to the swell of its' giant hindquarters and tail she had to admit it was an impressive kill. Stare lingering a bit longer on the teeth marks in the eland's bloody neck where Dooley had likely suffocated the animal. It was a clean looking bite, no tearing along the neck that might suggest a struggle or that the bull had suffered immensely during the battle.
That put the honey-colored lioness at ease. A small paw resting lightly upon a barrel-shaped torso, feeling the warmth that lingered in the flesh beneath sensitive pads. Awkwardly wiggling the peaks of her shoulders Chai tried not to think how strange she must have looked to the feline and canine pair. Instead she turned a gaze on Rin for a moment to be sure the hawk was present before bowing her head. Th-Thank you for your sacrifice, nameless stranger. I promise to honor your memory by nourishing myself with the strength of your body and I hope that you rest in peace knowing that I continue to live on because of your generosity.
Perched lightly upon the hip of the eland, Rin quietly observed her companion's respected ritual. Waiting patiently until the lioness was ready to carve into the offering that lay before her and only then, as sheathed claws tore through the coarse hide to reveal feast inside, did the pale raptor begin to tear away at the carcass with her razor sharp beak. Adding in an after thought that was meant to reassure the quirky female who seemed to hate to see any creature--even her dinner--suffer. You would be proud. Despite its size the bull was not long for this world once your prince got a hold of him. He was gone before he could fully comprehend what happened, I think.
The fresh scent of blood and meat turned Chai's stomach end-over-end with hunger. She couldn't remember the last time she'd had a meal that hadn't been cold on the ground for days and nearly picked bare. Not that she was regretful of such a fate, it was the way she'd chosen to live her life, but that aside, the eager lioness could hardly keep herself from gorging on the rations that put a satisfying weight in her stomach. Drawing back for only a moment to acknowledge Rin's words as she licked the blood from her maw. I.. I am.. I mean.. I can tell by looking, that it was quick.
A quiet tone expressed her admiration, though she blushed and ducked her head with embarrassment, hissing under her breath in hopes that neither Dooley nor Wessex would hear. He isn't my prince, though! He isn't my anything.. so quit saying things like that!
To which the pale bird simply shrugged, though she didn't necessarily agree as they continued to feast as though it had been years since their last meal.
