Mitzi woke with a start, sitting bolt upright. For a moment, the searing pain still fresh in her mind, she couldn't figure out where she was. She could still feel the rage, and despair, and as much as there wasn't anything she could do about it, she hoped that her teammates would at least have a chance to fight back.

"Natalia, Imryn, Rain!" She started to get out of bed, and that was when the familiar surroundings suddenly crashed in, replacing the vision of the glass box, of the horrible room. She was in her own fluffy bed, with the lace-and-ribbon comforter, her giant pile of pillows and plush minis surrounding her. It was so much of a difference, the complete opposite of where she had just been, that for a moment all she could do was sit there in shock.

She felt something nudge her side, and then again, and turned slightly to the side to find BunBun pushing his way onto her lap. She wrapped her arms around the BunnyWunny and buried her face into his plush fur. He had been her first mini, from before she was too small even to remember, and as a scareling she'd always known he would defend her. It had been years since she had depended on him that way, crying into his fur as he brandished his sword. He did a little dance, something that had almost always brought a smile to her before, but it was just too much for the ghoul right now. The tears started flowing again, and he stilled and let her bawl her eyes out.

It had felt so real. And she had been aware enough to think it was a dream. That never happened. But here she was now, in her room, unharmed.

It had been her Trials team. She had been suddenly spending a lot of time with them, but still, all of them? Together for the whole time? And it had been so coherent.

And so these trials have concluded, the Trials of Death. She remembered hearing those words. It had to be a dream. But it couldn't… could it?

She grabbed her eyePhone off her nightstand, and pulled up Whisper's number. Her team leader would be the most likely person to contact… right?

The rest of her "dream" was still slowly filtering back, as she sat there and stared at the phone, trying to decide whether to call… no, just text. Just in case.

She finally started to type. -jst woke up, weird dream bout Trials. u ok?-

She sent it, and waited for a response, her other plushies now joining her and leaning against her. She reached out, wrapping her arms around them, and got back into bed, resting against her pillows while cuddling the plushes.

The ghoul was laying face down on her bed, so still that most would have thought she was a corpse. She didn't feel like moving. She would not go to class today, she would not stir for food or water. She just wanted to be. To exist. Like this. Whisper didn't believe it was a dream. No pain could exist like that simply in her mind. And that hunger...that was real. She wouldn't believe them. No matter what she couldn't. And she would never forget.

Her phone vibrated under her pillow. Wisp groaned, thinking it was one of her siblings asking a stupid question. But to her surprise it was Mitzi. -Don't know. Don't feel right...I have to think about it. I don't believe them.-

The Reaper ghoul jumped when her eyePhone buzzed. She had been starting to convince herself maybe it was just a dream, but if Whisper was responding so quickly then that could only mean…

But the text she received didn't make any sense to her. It sounded like the older ghoul was talking about the same thing, and at least she was alive… Watching that machine destroy and reform her flashed in front of Mitzi's eyes, how she had writhed and screamed, how at the end there had just been a weapon lying there in her place. Had it even still been her? Suddenly something was poking her side, bringing her back out of the memories. She found she was shaking again, tears in her eyes, as BunBun looked up at her worriedly.

She took several deep breaths, calming herself down again, before texting back.

-u dreamd it 2? Was tht the lst Trial?-

And then a minute later, when she still couldn't figure out what the demon had meant, -thm who?-

As she waited for a reply, she started flipping through her contacts again, pulling up the other ghouls on her team. She sent each of them a quick text, -u ok?-, just wanting to hear from them and be sure they'd woken up from that nightmare as well.

The ghoul rolled over and stared at her ceiling. What was real? What was "just a dream"? Was her reality based on what those higher up on the FEAR chain decided? That would be such a cruel and unfair fate. Why should anyone decide what happens to anyone else? Whisper's anger was growing into a massive storm of rage inside her heart. She tried to hold back her tears, grinding her teeth and biting her lip until it bled. Alas, it was no use. Tears streamed down the sides of her face and into her hair, pooling on her pillow. Could there possibly be other students that felt this way? She would have to find out.

Her phone buzzed again. -I don't know. It might have been planned as something else, and it just went wrong. Either way, I can't believe it was a dream. The clans? the boogiemen? I just don;t know who to trust anymore.-

Rain was sitting Indian style in her bed when her eyephone started screaming for attention. She had just gotten off the phone with her mother and father, having checked to make sure things were alright. They were worried about her, especially since she had a terrible nightmare. Zombies didn't sleep, not on a real level and because of that, they didn't dream on a real level either. So it had really disturbed Rain and if not for her mom's soothing words, she might have had a larger freak out.

Her ringtone and text tone were set to an eerie, loud pitched scream that would repeat itself over and over again. It was enough to make the average student twitch after just a few seconds of it. To Rain however, it was like music to her ears. Reaching over, she plopped it open and saw that it was a text from Mitzi asking if she was okay.

So it had been real. Or at least.. real enough. She didn't want to disclose all the information to her parents, choosing to leave out any mentioning of the trials. The zombie had come to the conclusion that while they might never have left their rooms, it didn't make it any less real. The more she thought about it, the more dying seemed natural. It was the Trial of Death afterall.

However, she still was angry. They were just kids. They didn't need to go through that, suffer that much, see such.. awful things. She would never be able to forget what happened with Whisper or the bright lights of that table as she was being cut apart. Who the heck could do that stuff to a bunch of kids?

"Big Ten-Four. Am okay, not happy though. How are you? Over and out." Rain finally replied to the message waiting her response on the eyephone. After a minute or two, she bent over to look at the screen. Why hadn't it sent? She had told it what to write out in a clear voice.

"Big Ten-Four. Am okay, not happy though. How are you? Over and out." Her voice was even louder now and she attempted to speak the words more clearly. Still nothing. Had her eyephone broke? Her mother wouldn't be too pleased to find out that she broke a third phone. At least this time it wasn't because of her sharp claws at least. No, no, the phone wasn't broken. Mitzi's message was still blinking at her. Growing curious, she gently hit the enter button and it moved to a new screen waiting for her to write in her message. How neat!

It took way longer than it should have but in the end, Rain had a message typed out. It wasn't very pretty but she couldn't find the space bar or the punctuation. It would have to do so she hit send.

Rain was made of tougher stuff than some, most of which she attributed towards being a zombie. If she was still shook up from the whole ordeal than the others must be too. She genuinely hoped they were all okay. They had done so well in the trials and she was proud to have been part of the team. Team Femme Fatals. Even their name sounded like something pulled from one of her comic books. They had been brave like superheroes, hadn't they? They had fought hard like superheroes, fought villains like the kraken and fog creatures. They had really.. really done so well.

The more she thought about it, the better she felt.

Imryn had been sitting in her closet trying to figure out some of what had just happened when her eyephone started blinking, signaling that a message had been sent. The only reason she even had one was to keep in touch with her parents, but was kinda glad about exchanging numbers with the team now. Would make it much easier to find out if everyone was ok without spending hours trying to find their dorm rooms.

Picking up the phone she flipped through it to her messages, not really sure what to reply with. Physically she was ok... but mentally? That was going to take some time to work through. Trial or not, that wasn't something you forgot easily, though it was easier to get angry at the Horsemen for putting them through that than think about how the ordeal had made her feel.

To Mitzi: Still have all my parts, so ok I guess.

Right now Imryn didn't think she could commit to anything more than that. They had done a great job together as a team, and she'd had a lot of fun with it for once, but it was still going to take some time to shake the feeling that what had happened was real and not just a dream.

So the others had been there as well. It wasn't just a dream, it really happened - for some definition of real. The Reaper wasn't sure if that made it better or worse, though.

When she received Rain's text, she had to stare at it a minute to figure it out. She just was too mentally fried, what was... ooooh, no spaces. Right. Then it all made sense, and she had to grin just a bit. The zombie's cheerful personality came through even after what they'd just experienced, and it brightened Mitzi's mood a bit.

She sat there thinking for a bit before replying to Rain's text, the only one that seemed to really require an answer.

-im ok-
-good 2 kno u r 2-

Relatively satisfied that the rest of her team was alive, at least, she leaned back in bed. There was no way she'd be getting back to sleep, but she didn't feel up to doing anything that could take her mind off of what had happened. So she just curled up there, surrounded by her minis, taking what comfort she could from the familiar surroundings. Morning would not come soon enough.
