Why? What is the point of rewarding me with nice armor or a spiffy new shanking utensil if it is not the best armor or shanking utensil I can have? I don't understand it! I thought this had been done away with Bethesda! Why do you tease me so! I don't want to grind until level 53 just so I can get the bestest squish-protection or squish-perforator. A reward should be rewarding, not a case of "Congratulations, You are now the head of a big organization! Now have some stuff that is not as good as this stuff you could have had if you bothered to get it later!"

I apologize for this outburst. I'm gonna go cry in the corner.

I took a trip over to the UESP and I couldn't find any information that Skyrim still had the leveled reward items that OB did. It might still be there, but just not to the same jarring effect as OB had. On my new character that I started I used the Oghma Infinium glitch to level up to 82. You have to level your character to 15 first so you can active the second half of the quest to retrieve the book. Once I get my ME3 fix I'll load Skyrim back up and see if the reward items happened to be better this time around with me being just a high level at the start of the game.

Skyrim:Leveled Items

Leveled systems are irritating.
The thing is, though.
The items which are influenced by level of procurement in Skyrim (I.E.: that entire UESP entry there)
Are not necessarily the most interesting or rewarding weapons.
(That is also a closed list.)
Not only does Dawnbreaker, for instance, grow with your level of skill, remaining powerful up into the fifties,
A master smith can make it even more impressive.
I got to the 80's via aggressive dragon murder. Over a long period of time.
My Dawnbreaker does 112 damage.

I missed that article. I went to this one: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Leveling.

Thanks Sithorn for pointing that out, I was sure that i wasn't crazy in believing that some items got "better" as you leveled, even after you acquired them.

That... That almost completely makes up for it. Though, I think my new favorite weapon is the Ebony Blade. It is the ultimate Skyrim Swordsman's weapon. It was apparently specifically programmed to use both the one-handed and two-handed perk trees, it cuts really fast (particularly for a two-handed weapon), and it has a life-drain enchantment on it that never runs out!

Hey, what's the definite, end-all, official, etc, etc, ratta-ratta, Level Cap and Maximum Number of Perks? I ask this because I was under the the impression that there really wasn't a maximum level and 40 was the maximum number of perks, but the UESP is saying that the max is 81.5 for level and 80 for perks. If this is the case, I have to say, WTF am I planning out my perk path for?

The wiki page is correct. I'm level 81.5 with 80 perks. Kinda wish there were a bit more perks to go around lol.

It amuses me that if I fill Destruction, Alteration, Restoration, and Illusion trees out completely and then fill up Two-handed Weapons and Enchanting, I will, after Steel Smithing and Arcane Smith, have exactly 80 perks filled out.

Ya know I was going to pick another play style with my second character, but I still ended up playing as a Mage this time with Heavy Armor.

See, I'm a Magic Swordsman at heart. I don't particularly like armor though. Sure armor looks cool, but I would much rather simply not be there when my enemy tries to strike.

With the way the magic system works in Skyrim, having to "charge" your spell attacks makes it a b***h, especially when your facing multiple enemies or enemies that get in close fast. Sure the "spray" spells are great for that, but I miss the touch spells that OB had. Hell I really wish that if they add anything to the game via DLC its the option to have custom spell creation back.

hmm.... I had no idea that the level cap was in the eighties.....for some reason I had heard and assumed it was like 50. I can't imagine how long it would take to get up to level 81 without power leveling....

Now the thought is there but I"m afraid if I participate in leveling I might not enjoy my game as much....

The thing that irks me is they have once again nerfed magic. First, how hard is it to rest your claymore on your shoulder and cast a one handed spell? Second, I want access to spells. I understand that having access to certain spells earlier on is possibly game breaking, but this is why Morrowind was superior. There were casting DCs. "Oh look! I'm level 1! I wanna cast Greater Levitate! Oh damn, not enough magika, I guess I'll use Fly with a 5 in alteration!" Two castings later I'm out of magika and I couldn't get it off. Here's how you fix it. Make your level and perks dictate how much magika the spell uses, then make all the spells cost too much magika to cast earlier in the game. Lightning bolt for example, 25 Destruction and the Apprentice perk or it costs something in the ball park of 100 points to cast. Low level's will still be restricted, but I'll have access to the damn spells I need.

As far as people complaining magic is broken, I have but one thing to say: It's magic! It's supposed to be broken!

KEEP YOUR HANDS TO YOURSELF SNEAKTHIEF!

For awhile I thought it was in the 50's as well, and at one point that there wasn't a cap at all. LOL got to love the rumor mill. By AZURA I really don't want to know how long it would take to max out all you skills the legit way.

Jay lets just say its quite a b***h to have an Ascended Dragon come swopping out of the sky and start attacking everything in sight. Even at level 81 those suckers are damn hard to kill. Though I find the shock spell thunderbolt does seem to have a greater effect on them than the other schools of Des. magic.

I really don't understand why magic is suppose to be broken??

That's what I loved about Morrowind, plus you had a chance of simply not being able to cast the spell if you level wasn't high enough. You could have all the magicka in the world, but if that skill level wasn't high enough, then no magic for you.

I don't know about making all spells cost too much at the start, pure mage's would have a hard time leveling up the different schools of magic if they couldn't cast them. You would still need to introduce some low level, low cost spells that don't really do a lot of damage, but give the aspiring mage an actual shot at leveling the skill.
