A cold wind had blown up and it blustered down the path, catching Shinrei and whipping up his clothing. The Chimecho came to a complete halt to stop himself from being blown away, leaning into the wind and covering his face with his forearm to keep dust from getting in his eyes. It was not a nice day to be out and the grey clouds threatened rain. This was a long route (the number of which he had forgotten) and there was no hope of his reaching the next town anytime soon. He would have to take shelter beneath the trees that lined the path. Shinrei accepted the circumstances as unfortunate; he could hardly control the weather. However he had no desire to become soaked to the bone. Human bodies seemed to have far less tolerance for the cold and wet than Pokemon.

Shinrei glanced at the sky as the wind died down. The world had grown dark despite it only being midday. Now he showed slight consternation as he moved off the path towards the trees. He did not like storms, nor did he like weathering them alone. The Chimecho slipped beneath the sheltering branches; knowing he would not be able to fit within a hollow tree like he would have in times past.

As he moved beneath branches the rain began. Slow to start with, the spray of rain barely seemed to touch the earth. But it would soon get worse. Shinrei sighed as he continued onwards into the darkness, one hand held out to stop from running into anything. His natural abilities helped him from falling down holes, but he could still stump his toe on a rock and that would just make the impending thunderstorm even worse. The wind howled through the treetops and the Chimecho stopped, looking up into their waving branches.

Worry creased his brow as he wrapped his arms around his body and wished the storm away.

Black ears flicked at the sound of the thunder. Peregrin had heard and smelled the storm coming long before it had made itself apparent. The air had had that heavy quality to it for most of the afternoon, it only made sense that the storm was moving in. The Mightyena had been in the woods all along, enjoying his solitude...and perhaps doing a small amount of hunting. He practiced this in secret now, mostly, knowing his change made it unnecessary. Who knew what his human friends might say if they found out about it, but thankfully, they didn't travel at his side. They would never find out. Unfortunately though, the coming of the storm meant that his hunt was over, and that he would need to find shelter. A good dense spot in the forest, he speculated, since there weren't any caves around that he knew of.

He was reaching up to pull the hood of his cloak over his head, when he paused, his ears swiveling toward the sound of twigs snapping and brush being pushed aside. Someone was hurrying their way into the forest, no doubt to take shelter from the storm. Drawn by curiosity, Peregrin moved toward the sound, thinking perhaps that it was a lost traveler, some human who might have lost his or her way. He'd helped out a few of those, since becoming human.

When he finally sighted the source of the noise, however, he was taken aback for a moment. "Shinrei??" he said it out loud. There was no mistaking those clothes, the hair. He stuck out in the darkened forest like a red and white beacon, and Peregrin's eyes softened at his stature, huddled as it was. What were the chances of running into him all the way out here? He headed over, vague concern etched over his face. The Chimecho was only an acquaintance, but he'd been pleasant enough. Harmless. "Are you alright?"

Still peering up into the waving branches, Shinrei was slowly coming to terms with the idea of a wet and uncomfortable night and then…

A voice? His name? The Chimecho left his contemplation of the storm, peering into the darkness with a surprised expression. The voice had certainly been familiar, and when realisation of who he had come across in this lonely section of forest, the surprise turned to instant relief. “Peregrin.” He breathed out in delight and then frowned. He had remembered his name. How wonderful. Normally Shinrei was hopeless with names, forgetting them soon after he had been told. But the Mightyena was a familiar face, a very much welcomed face and in the midst of his relief the name had been there for him to use.

“Oh yes, I am fine.” He answered on instinct. Then he laughed softly and self deprecatingly, relaxing his own posture and bringing a hand up to smother the sound. He realised he must look quite silly standing in the forest looking miserable about a bit of rain. Then a sudden loud rumble of thunder overhead caused him to jump and let out a squeak, the sound like the loud chime of a bell.

“… or perhaps not.” Shinrei moved towards the Mightyena, reaching for him and giving an apologetic smile as he approached. “I am sorry. I… don’t much like thunderstorms. It’s quite a silly fear, but one I have been unable to conquer.”

Peregrin always found himself worrying about people like Shinrei, and because he was one of the few Gijinka the Mightyena had met, Peregrin remembered him instantly. He stopped a few steps away, giving the Chimecho a quick once-over, vibrant eyes sweeping over his form. He was indeed fine, no wounds, no blood. This was good. Stumbling around in the dark, uncoordinated, it would be all too easy to hurt one's self, but he said nothing about that. The only thing that changed was that some of the concern faded away.

It came right back when Shinrei admitted his troubles, and his brow furrowed just a little, eyes darting up at the sound of the thunder. While Shinrei had jumped, the Mightyena barely flinched, though he was a bit more tense than before. He'd dealt with so many storms over the course of his life that they rarely fazed him now. As long as you could find shelter, anyway, they were just an inconvenience more than anything. "Mmm. No reason to apologize. It's good to take caution, storms can be dangerous." he said, an attempt to reassure the anxious gijinka. He reached out as Shinrei came near, allowing the Chimecho to grab hold of his hand.

"We can seek shelter together. The forest becomes thicker further in, it will be drier there, and safer for us." he began to lead the way, picking a careful path. It was apparent to him that Shinrei's kind did not see as well in the dark. The going would be slower, but Grin didn't mind. He wouldn't admit it outright, but it would be nice to have company while they waited out the storm. Traveling alone was still something he was getting used to.
