Quarry tread carefully through the dark woods - one hoof in front of the other - each step made deliberately. Her ears swiveled in every direction, taking note of every sound and scurry in the forest around her. Her mother had warned her "It's always darkest before the dawn," before she ventured forth - but the moon was bright and clear and she saw rather well in the dim light. She peered through the darkness with her large blue eyes, her head low to avoid upsetting the branches.
The cool spring breeze rustled through the budding trees, catching in her thick fur and billowing her cape. She hadn't left her mother's side at all since her unfortunately encounter with the two legged hunter a few moons ago. But she was determine to strike out on her own again - even if it was just for a few days.
The cerynei blood in her kept Quarry skittish, quick, and always on the defensive - she knew hulking beasts lurked in the forests - bloodthirsty skinwalkers or those who would mistake her for one - and she lived in a haze of apprehension that she would be attacked (again). But the wolf inside her was strong as well - while she would rather run from a fight then draw blood, she had proven to her would-be predator that she was fully capable of letting the wolf inside her strike out when necessary.
She stood still until the wind died down, then she readjusted her cape, making sure her dagger was set firmly in its folds, and continued on. She didn't know exactly what she was looking for, or what she aimed to do, but walking in the woods alone seemed like some kind of fitting right of passage.

Heart thundering within his strong chest the stallion came to a stop, pawed feet quietly digging into the earth as his body likewise slowed to a grinding halt. What had he smelled? Something new among the forest he wandered tonight..someone not something. Not another paw footed or 'pelt' covered individual..not it smelled odd. Not of either scents, unique. That alone intrigued Honovi who's muzzle still carried faint traces of blood from his thrilling hunt. Who would be out about in the woods at night save a predator like himself? Certainly someone would not be so..foolish if they could not defend themselves. Again overly intrigued Honovi began stalking through the dark shadows..steering clear of the moons rays to avoid detection. Hopefully whoever or whatever it was wouldn't scent the drying blood upon his body. Yes the hunt had been amazing, the feel of warm meat and blood sent a little zing of pleasure through the male but, he would never be able to settle for the night without knowing about that scent..the scent he could now smell drawing closer. Pausing with perked ears..a teasing smile forming upon his blood stained face..he thought to see truly what might be lurking so close by. Yes, he could hear the gentle fall of each breath the other being took. If what he did next sent them running..he knew his inner beast would go on another hunt. Inhaling quietly the dark maned male spoke up, in his deep rumbling voice..almost a growl as his words ended."My my..what have we here? Something else to hunt..or perhaps someone...interesting." Sharp canines flashing Honovi ventured out at last into the moons sweet rays, a bit startled at what he had stumbled upon. How curious. A mare but, not of the usual sort..no she had fur like himself and a tail but, her feet were 'normal'. "Well that is surprising, not a wolf..not a 'normal' mare, I wonder if you bear the same inner beast that I do.." Such a wretched beast it was..something Honovi fought daily. Though he did enjoy the blood and flesh of 'normal' mares and, stallions he often went weeks without any type of meat..starving the other part of himself..trying to be less dangerous to those around him, to prove in some small way that he could lead a life and, not be like those dark evil beasts that lurked in this same forest. Skin-walkers. They disgusted him to no end..even those that were pure seemed so..dark too far gone to ever speak with..too far gone to ever do anything but, kill or do evil things. If only he hadn't been cursed..if only. Shaking the thoughts and memories from his mind his gaze again flickered to the un-named mare..well tonight had certainly become even more exciting.

When the creature revealed itself in the moonlight, Quarry jumped, and bound a few leaps backwards, twisting herself to launch her escape route - like a deer she seemed to move before her brain could even comprehend what she saw.
But in a split second it caught up with her and her cloven hooves dug into the ground, stopping her rapid escape in a matter of moments. Her cape settled around her neck, obscuring the dagger underneath as his appearance and his words registered. She blinked and turned to face him, her movements cautious, but curious. She kept her distance, but the mare let her blue eyes travel over the stallion. He was definitely no skinwalker- he looked like a normal stallion well enough on first glance - but her keen eyes quickly spotted his fangs and his canine tail planted firmly in a dominant position.
Her eyes widened at the wolfish edge to his look - could he truly be like her? Even more shockingly, her eyes focused in on his paws - actual paws! She had run across a colt when she was just a filly who told her his sister had such things, but she didn't think much to believe him.
Finally she found her voice, "Inner beast...?" she caused cautiously, lifting her gaze to meet his etes.
