User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.A series of skeletal hands pointed the guests on their way towards the next War class held not in a loft within the trees but this time on the ground itself. That was unusual; the War clan very rarely left their trees, if rumor was correct. But there were two female War clan members sitting on a fallen log at the end of the grisly signs, chatting to one another as if this wasn't out of the ordinary.

The guests and two clanswomen were within a small clearing, surrounded by a thick and vibrant jungle. It was clear; there were no benches, no rocks, no forest debris. Aside from the two clanswomen, the only thing of interest were the several covered baskets at their feet currently being used as footrests by the clanswomen.

The two clanswomen were identical in appearance. Both had dark skin and blue-black wings with white feathers, reminiscent of magpies. Their hair was black in color and decorated with feathers, one drawn back in a ponytail and the other in a braid. The one in the ponytail was clad scantily in leather. The other seemed to have attempted to follow Halloween fashion with a tank top and skirt, however the way she fidgeted announced that she was still unused to the fashion. She had even decided to brave high heels whereas the other went barefoot.

Finally, the one wearing the Halloween-esque clothing takes notice. "Ah! They've finally arrived, Radha."

The other, Radha glances over and shrugs. "I can see that for myself. Why did you call me by my name? You know you have my attention, there was no way to call it."

"But they didn't know it," the Horsewoman protested, launching quickly into an argument with the other clansmen. It seemed that the students were forgotten until they broke off, the one wearing the Halloween dress turning to the students. "My name is Faiza, by the way. Before my sister and I get on with today's lesson, can each of you come up and give me your names please? This may take awhile, and we need to make sure we have enough supplies."

"Usually we'd have each of you make your own," Radha broke in, giving the baskets and their contents a meaningful look. "However we felt that with today's... subject matter, it would be better off if we gave you as much time as possible for the upcoming tasks, rather than request you do things our way."

"This isn't to say that we think you're slow," Faiza broke in quickly. "It's just that -"

"You're going to need all the help you can get."

"Radha!"

"What?! We're supposed to be honest with them!"

"Well, yeah but I wasn't expecting you to be that honest!"

"What do you mean?!"

Their conversation rapidly fell into bickering, which then escalated into a scuffle before upgrading into a full-on spar between the two. There was the unsettling feeling that this was going to be a common occurrence during the upcoming week...

Marushii
Radha

- I will do my best to respond, however I do work for most of the day. And sleep for most of the night.

- Please be aware of the deadlines. Once a task is closed, you cannot go back and complete the previous day's assignment. If you have no time to RP, you can roll and include a placeholder to edit in RP later. However, if you have not edited your post by the RP deadline you will not receive OOC credit for the task.

- I will aim to have the RP deadlines close sometime in the evening between 5-8pm PST, as best as I can according to my IRL schedule.

DAY ONE

The Task

After what feels like an eternity, the two instructors disengage. And "disengage" by horseman standards meant forcing the opponent into a position that they were immobile in. Radha's knee was digging into Faiza's back as she held onto the other horseman's arms, shifting her weight with Faiza's wiggles as the other horseman struggled vainly to break free.

The more serious of the two released and stood up, offering Faiza her hand and pulling her up. "Today each of you will personally learn a bit more about what being a horseman means," Radha began, giving a nod to Faiza.

Faiza stepped away from her sister, taking a moment to shoo some students back in order to gain some room. Once enough space was cleared, Faiza summoned her Fear to her and in the blink of an eye Faiza was no longer there. In her place stood a sleek red horse with Faiza perched on top of it. Her heels lightly tapped the sides, and the horse began to walk around the group of students as Radha spoke.

"We are, at our core, horsemen. Every member of every clan can summon their horse, however every horse is different for every clan. As you can see, for clan War our horses are always red." Radha paused as Faiza made a clicking sound, turning. Horse and rider then cut through the students before whirling around and charging through them again, the horse never touching or brushing against a student as it wove between them before finally trotting up next to Radha. "Our mounts are part of us; they are created from our Fear. Without them, we would not be who we are. We of War may be able to fly, however none of us will ever forget or shun being able to ride."

Faiza spoke up, leaning forward on her saddle to look down at the students. "The last batch of you guys here last week learned how to use weapons. You guys will get some weapons training too, but Radha and I felt that you'd get a better understanding of our culture if you did a couple things too. The thing is, I don't think any of you have mounts...?" It was a question that she trailed off before snapping her fingers. "Ah! That's right, as visitors your special abilities are on lock down too, right? Not to worry!"

"Some of you during the trials rode," Radha began. "We are going to teach you the basics for riding and combat on a mount. It will be up to each and every one of you to learn and master the skills we present to you. Before that, however... It is difficult to ride if you do not have a mount, yes?"

The horsewoman turned towards the baskets and opened one, pulling out a length of vine.

"Radha? What are you doing?"

Radha said nothing as she held up an end of the vine and demonstrated how to tie a particular kind of knot.

"Is that what I think it is?" Faiza inquired, glancing at her sister.

Radha began to spin the loop.

Faiza stared, indignation stamped on her face before her horse spun around and leapt forward as the green lasso was flung around Faiza's shoulders. Radha jerked back on the vine, the knot slimming and forcing Faiza's arms against her sides. The formerly mounted horsewoman discovered herself on the ground, her horse sheepishly standing nearby and looking rather embarrassed for itself.

"Did you see how I did that?" Radha asked the students, moving forward and assisting Faiza with untangling. "We have different lengths of both rope and vine for you to practice making the slip-knot with. After you have tied it, attempt to rope three of your fellow students. This will demonstrate how quickly you can learn and put your skills to use."

"When you're done, you're free to leave," Faiza added as she dusted herself off. "Be sure to meet us back here tomorrow, bright and early. You guys are going to need all the time you can get for the next part, okay?"

Quote:

STEP ONE: Making the knot.
Roll one, 6-sided dice.
1-2: You just knotted the rope. Try again.
3-4: Success! You are free to move onto step two.
5-6: You tie the knot, but then it unravels. Try again.
You only need to successfully roll this once. Keep trying again if you don't roll a 3 or 4! But once you have your knot, you may move onto step two.

STEP TWO: Lassoing your Fellow Classmates
It's time for some battle system practice!
- Find and roll your battle dice below.
- Subtract six from the result.
- If the result is one or greater, you successfully lassoed your chosen target.
- If the result is zero or less, you missed and must try again.
- Whenever you lasso someone, please QUOTE them. For battles, always quote your opponent to "tag" them and let them know it's their turn!
- Please include an RP prompt with all your posts; please refrain from posting (rolling) or (will edit). Something as simple as "Bob twirled the lasso over his head as he prepared to throw." makes a much better place holder than an OOC note.
- Do not subtract HP! You are not dealing damage.

BATTLE DICE:
- Guest/Quest Students: 2d6
- Y1 Students: 2d6
- Y2 Students: 2d8
- Y3 Students: 2d10

"2d6" means "two 6-sided dice."

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO AGAIN?
- Make your lasso by rolling 1d6 and getting a 3 or 4. You only need to do this one.
- Pick three random people in this thread. Attempt to lasso them by using the battle dice mechanics. Please pick three different people each time.

DAY TWO
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

Faiza and Radha had neglected to mention that when they mentioned to arrive at the meeting spot "bright and early," they meant that everyone should arise and wake up before dawn and meet them there. Upon discovering the lack of students, the two War horsemen had returned to the dorms and woke the formerly sleeping students up. They gave an approving nod to those who were already up, requesting that they head on over to the class meeting place while they continued to wake those that still slept. Anyone who attempted to burrow back into their bed would find the hammock they were assigned suddenly upended, flipping them out and onto the floor for a much harsher and rude awakening.

When they had attempted to wake each and every student, Faiza and Radha had departed for the class meeting place. They did not seem to mind if they were followed, or if someone cursed them and went back to bed. After all, it was up to each and every student to decide whether they wished to learn from them or not. They weren't about to go force their lessons down everyone's throat, yet in the same vein neither of them was hesitant about attempting to bring them together.

"Good, enough of you showed up." Radha began without preamble, standing upon the fallen log she and her sister were sitting on the day before. Faiza was busy handing out more vines the students had constructed, giving an approving nod and clap on the shoulders to those who had the forethought to bring the ones they made yesterday back to class. "Today you are going to go out into the wilderness of War and search. There are many animals on this island, some cunning and not so cunning."

Radha spread her hands out, gesturing towards the forest surrounding them. "We of War live in the trees, and the animals themselves prowl upon the ground. We respect each other, as warrior to warrior as animals of any kind are not to be trifled with. Even the lowest rat can fight like an enraged jaguar when backed into a corner."

"And that's what brings us to today," Faiza said, jumping up to stand next to her sister to look over them. "Since we horsemen ride horses, we figured you guys could go out and find mounts of your own to ride for a bit since you can't exactly... well." She raised a hand and twirled it vaguely, indicating Fear and natural abilities, "Since you can't exactly use your own talents and skills here. Radha and I made sure that the area has a variety of large mounts to choose from. It'll be up to each of you to find one that strikes your fancy, lasso it, and earn its respect."

"Nothing can ever truly be tamed," Radha broke in wryly. "Even the most pampered pet can dream of running wild and can bite the hand that feeds it. What you will need to do is earn its respect, either through force or through Fear." The horseman stopped, tilting her head to one side to consider the students before her. "You... do know how to summon Fear to yourselves and not use it, yes?"

There was a pause. The two horsewomen studied the students before them. Neither moved, but there was a sudden feeling in the air, the sheer knowledge that even though they appeared to be close in age to the students they were far, far more experienced when it came to combat. Either one could simply reach out and effortlessly defeat you without exerting effort, without a thought. They were dangerous, and perhaps taking a step back would be a good idea --

The pressure seemed to lift, fading as quickly as if someone let out a held breath. Faiza grinned and shrugged. "And that is how you do it. You guys may have your talents locked off, but I bet you guys could look intimidating if you wanted to. Just square your shoulders and do what comes naturally."

"Or if you are still struggling, imagine some armor created out of Fear. Then picture yourself putting it on," Radha shrugged. "That is the method that I personally use."

The more serious of the two horsemen looked up at the sky, as if she could see the sun through the canopy above. "Sunrise is coming soon. I suggest each of you begin to look for a suitable mount, and return here when you have found one. We will stable and take care of it. If you are lost, please shout. Myself, Faiza, or another clansman will be nearby and able to bring you back."

The Task

For today, you are to acquire a mount. This mount will be the one that you will use for the next couple of lessons, so choose wisely! You will need to roll to determine what you run into. You may reroll as many times as you like before today's class ends if you do not like the one you rolled.

There are six types of mounts:

  • Tortoise
  • Wolf
  • Jaguar
  • Tarantula
  • Small Dragon (note: cannot fly)
  • Mountain Goat

Each mount will come with its own advantages and disadvantages, which will be revealed tomorrow. These advantages and disadvantages are largely for RP purposes; there is no "best" choice.

In order to locate a mount, please roll one 20-sided dice. You do not need to follow the prompt exactly; you may deviate from it if you'd like. The only thing you may not change is the type of animal you run into.

Quote:

Quote:

  1. You find nothing.
  2. You feel something following you. Turns out it's a wolf, which eyes you hungrily.
  3. You find nothing.
  4. You manage to find a tortoise!
  5. You find a small dragon waddling through the jungle.
  6. What you mistake to be a rock turns out to be a large, rocky tortoise.
  7. You find nothing.
  8. You manage to come across a mountain goat. In the middle of a jungle. Oookay.
  9. What you take to be a giant mossy boulder turns out to be a small dragon.
  10. You find nothing.
  11. A strange sound makes you look up and into the yellow eyes of a goat up in a tree. Might want to consider getting it down before attempting to tame it.
  12. Something tugs at your clothes. Turns out it's a goat, currently chewing up your clothes. You might want to do something about that...
  13. A jaguar drops down from above onto you! Take an unavoidable -5 HP!
  14. You find nothing.
  15. As you come across a river, you see a small dragon lurking just beneath the surface.
  16. You find nothing.
  17. You trip over a tortoise calmly munching on some leaves.
  18. You follow the haunting cry of a lone wolf and come across it. Eventually.
  19. You walk past it two times before finally sitting down on what looks to be an inviting rock, only to have it shift and move under you. Hi tortoise!
  20. You find nothing.

Once you have located the mount you like, you must catch tame earn its respect. To do so, roll your attack dice twice.

WHAT DO I ROLL

Quest Students: Roll 4d6
Year One Students: Roll 4d6
Year Two Students: Roll 4d8
Year Three Students: Roll 4d10

2d6 = two, 6-sided dice

The first two dice represent your character's ability to use their Fear to tame a wild animal. The last two dice represents the wild animal's resistance to your character's Fear. In order to tame the animal, your attack must be higher than the creature you're trying to tame: best two out of three.

IN ENGLISH PLEASE

Stumped? Let's say you're a Quest Student and you encounter a tortoise. You roll four 6-sided dice and get 6, 5, 3, and 4.

Your character's result: 6+5 = 11-6 = 5
Tortoise's result: 3+4 =7-6 = 1

As your total is higher than the tortoise's, you're halfway through taming it! Roll another 4d6 to see whether you tame it, or if it resists you. If the tortoise's roll is higher, you can reroll one more time.

Let's say the tortoise out-rolls you twice. It beat you 2/3, and as a result it just ambled off into the jungle. You will need to reroll the 20-sided dice to encounter another animal and try again..

CAN I GET A TLDR PLZ

Step One: Roll one 20-sided dice. RP out the result.
Step Two: Reroll the 20-sided dice until you encounter an animal.
Step Three: Roll for taming. See the above chunk for your dice.
Step Four: Get a higher roll than the animal twice.
Step Five: Enjoy your new mount!

exclaim When you have caught a mount, please add this code to your post exclaim

FAQ

Q: I don't like the animal I got. Can I trade with someone?
Nope. Just reroll until you get the one that strikes your fancy please!

Q: Is there a difference between the animals?
Yep. The details will be revealed in the next part, but have some hints:
Quote:

  • Tortoise: Slow, steady, and pro-green. Dislikes certain types of students.
  • Mountain Goat: An oddity, but at least it likes everyone. Or likes eating their clothes.
  • Wolf: Vicious, swift, and pro-meat. Dislikes certain types of students.
  • Small Dragon: Still can't fly.
  • Jaguar: Hates everyone.

Q: How long do I have to seek out a mount?
Until the next GM post, roughly 24 hours.

Q: What if I still don't have a mount by then?
Please wait and see.

Q: Why are the rolls different per year?
Mounts scale up depending on how much Fear you have. aka Maru wants everyone to get used to rolling and subtracting battle dice because she's the one who made the battle system and has an excuse to use its mechanics because she can.

Q: I'm a Y2, and I haven't taken my exam yet to be Y3! I have enough points, can I roll Y3 rolls?
You may, as the horsemen trials count as an exam~ However if you choose to use Y3 rolls, please stick with Y3 rolls for the rest of class.

Q: How do I know I'm a Y3?
FOR NOW if you participated in the horseman trials AND have enough points to be Y3, consider yourself Y3.

Q: I have enough points and I participated... do I have to roll Y3?
Nope~ You can choose to remain with Y2 rolls or go with Y3 rolls. You may NOT change your mind during the class, however! If you start with Y2 rolls, stick with Y2 rolls!

BONUS NON-MANDATORY TASK

When you return to the class area, Radha frowns at you thoughtfully. "You do not look as if you are comfortable with your mount. Have you ridden before?" She listens to your answer, considering before slowly nodding. "Even if you are familiar, practice would not be amiss. And if you are not... then now is a good time to learn."

Radha demonstrates the basics, borrowing your mount and showing you how to make it walk forward, stop, turn, and run. They are the basic commands, but that is really all you need.

And then it becomes your turn.

BONUS TASK

This is an optional bonus task that will not earn you any horseman points.

You need to demonstrate the basics of using a mount. Please do these in a separate thread.

Hey! Listen!
- Roll 1d4. Even, your mount listens to you. Odd, it does not.

Forward:
- Roll 1d4. Even, it moves forward. Odd, it does nothing.

STOP:
- Roll 1d4. Even, it keeps moving. Odd, it stops.

Turning:
- In order to demonstrate your ability to turn, your mount will need to turn one full circle. Pick even or odd. Try to roll what you called twice in a row.
- Upon accomplishing that, call even or odd again. Then roll what you called twice in a row again.

Upon completing this bonus RP, you may now RP your mount anywhere within the War clan. Except in RPs that takes place in trees, because that is rather silly and the mounts are too big to fit in the elevators. This isn't Thunder Bluff.

DAY THREE
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

The next morning greets you in the clearing where Faiza and Radha had met you two days piror, made all the more smaller by the vast amounts of mounts present. "Mount up!" Radha calls, in turn summoning her own. Where Faiza's was sleek, Radha's mount was large and muscular. This mount was not built for speed, but rather for strength and stamina. Both mount and Radha towered above the group before they turned and lead them into the jungle. Faiza waited until everyone was mounted before following, serving as a sort of rear guard and chattering to those nearby.

The next hour was spent on a rather uneventful ride that served as a tour of the War Island. The students got to see trees, trees, a river, more trees, bushes -- the foliage was quite thick, and anyone who attempted to wander off was quickly herded back to the group by Faiza on her quick steed.

Finally they arrived at a large clearing. There were long, straight barren scars that cut through the grass as if many feet had tread there before. The lines never bisected, and were at least ten feet apart from one another. They were roughly one to two hundred feet in length, and wide enough to accommodate a good amount of traffic.

Nearby, several lengths of wood were thrust into the ground. "I hope you took the time to become familiar with your mounts," Radha began as she approached one of these odd lengths, pulling it straight from the ground. It was a lance. "You will need to convince your mount to run the length of the field on the track, towards..."

She trailed off, considering. Radha whistled, tossing her lance towards Faiza. "Take over for me, will you? I will be right back."

Faiza caught the lance and hefted it, waving it to catch the student's attention. "Alright! I think some of you put the pieces together already, but for those of you who haven't this is a practice field." You don't say. "It's here where we of clan War practice not how to ride, but rather practice mounted combat."

Faiza shifted her grip on the lance, her horse shifting eagerly beneath her. "Y'see, combat is a huge part of our life. I mean, we are the War clan after all. It'd be silly if we didn't know how to fight or defend ourselves wouldn't it? Contrary to popular belief, we don't go looking for a fight. Yes, most of us like to but it doesn't mean that we do it all the time."

She gestured towards the field with the lance. "On this particular field we practice jousting. For those of you who aren't familiar with the concept, jousting is the act of two mounted combatants charging at each other with a lance with the intent to knock the other person off of their mount. For us, this builds up strength in both our arms and legs." Faiza lifted the lance in one arm, "See? When I started training, I had to use two hands to hold this. Now I need just one. I can also do this -" She shifted her legs, removing her feet from the stirrups. Her mount stood still as Faiza lifted herself up, bracing herself on her mount with her knees. "If I was thinking a few days ago, Radha wouldn't have been able to drag me off of my mount. But hey," she grinned, lowering herself back down. "That's what practice is for. You make the stupid mistakes now when there's little risk so you don't make them later."

"But really?" Faiza grinned, reaching forward to pat her mount. "It's more about developing a bond between us and our horses. Y'see, different clansmen have different ideas about them. Some think that our horses are an extension of ourselves, a manifestation of Fear. Others think that our Fear lets us summon them, and call them from elsewhere. Every clansmen's horse is different, too: they compliment us and our strengths. You remember what Radha's looks like? Radha's all about strength and power. Mine? Ability and grace here, baby."

The sleek mare tossed her head and pawed the ground, looking rather pleased with herself as Faiza reached forward to pat her affectionately on the neck. "But see, here's the thing. Because everyone's bond with their horse is a little different, it's important that we practice. Sometimes mounts are like... new comrades? New siblings? You know them, yet at the same time you don't know them." She paused, glancing at them uncertainly. "Do you follow? It's like... strangers too. It's like meeting someone for the first time, and getting to know them. That's why we have exercises like these." Faiza extended an arm to indicate the field. "This exercise, jousting, tests the bond between yourself and your mount. You are effectively telling your mount to run full speed at a target. They're going to trust you to not run into the other person."

Faiza glanced at the field, adding, "Normally, we of War would have two people at opposite ends guide their mounts towards one another. If a mount and rider did not have a strong bond, we would put a fence in to separate the two so that the mount did not have to worry about crashing into another. I do not think any of you is very comfortable with your mounts, so we will not be jousting against one another."

The horsewoman paused, her eyes flicking over them as she grinned. "I don't think some of you are very comfortable on your mounts either. And some of your mounts look as if they'd like to very much take a bite out of you."

Radha re-entered the field, dragging something large and heavy behind her. With practiced ease she swung off of her mount and assembled the sticks, creating a target dummy. She then moved onto the next lane and the next, completing the process until each barren lane had a target at one end.

"All right! With the targets in place, go ahead and grab a lance," Faiza instructed, demonstrating to the students how to hold it first with one hand, then with two. "When you feel ready, please move your mount to the front of the lane. I'd like you to tell it to charge forward, and please try to hit the target. Give it you all!" Faiza then hefted the lance in the air, then spun on her mount and began to charge the target.

The Task

JOUSTING 101

In order to joust, you will need to roll three dice. The type of dice depends on the mount that you rolled yesterday. If you do not have a mount, you will need to do this on foot. But not really; just go look at the quote that says "Mount Determination" below, do what it says, then come back up here and keep reading.

First, let's determine the dice you'll roll:

  • Turtles and Mountain Goats: 6-sided dice
  • Wolves and Tarantulas: 8-sided dice
  • Small dragons: 10-sided dice
  • Jaguar: 12-sided dice

You will need to roll three dice.
The first dice will determine your movement. Match your result to the "movement" table to determine how fast/far your mount moved.
The second and third dice will determine your charged attack power. As your mount runs towards the target, you will be "charging" your lance with an attack.

Mount Movement

Match the number on your FIRST DICE to this number:

  1. +1
  2. +2
  3. +3
  4. +1
  5. -2.
  6. +2. Subtract -3 from your charged attack total!
  7. +1. Subtract -3 from your charged attack total!
  8. -2.
  9. +0. Subtract -5 from your charged attack total!
  10. +3.
  11. -3. Subtract -5 from your charged attack total!
  12. +0. Subtract -10 from your charged attack total!

Charged Attack

To determine how much attack power you have charged, add the last two dice together and subtract six. This is just like determining battle damage. Aka, just like determining whether you lasso'd your target, or managed to "tame" your mount yesterday. This time, add your totals. If you get 0 or a negative number, subtract from your score.

Let's say I have a tortoise. My first charge attack was a 5 and a 6. 5+6=11-6=5. My charge attack total is now 5.

I roll again. This time, I got a 4 and a 1. 4+1=5-6= -1. 5 + -1 is really 5 -1, which means my charge attack is now 4. Guess my character wasn't paying attention!

Quote:
Mount Bonuses:
Every mount has its own benefits and drawbacks. Please keep these in mind when rolling/completing today's task.

  • Tortoise. It is a slow but steady steed that may need a little prodding to get into action. If your character is a herbivore and does NOT eat meat AT ALL it really likes you! All of your charge attacks get a boost of +3 to add on top of what you roll. If you are a carnivore or if your character eats meat then it sulkily carries you around. You do not get a bonus.

  • Mountain Goat. It is a little temperamental but at least it gets along with everyone. Its impressive rack also doubles as something to rest your lance on and hold it steady! For three times you can choose to subtract four instead of six when determining your damage.

  • Wolf. The large wolf is vicious and only responds to other carnivore-like creatures (wolves, bears, large cats, foxes). It will also tolerate you if your character eats meat. Because it likes you so much, you can adjust your movement roll by 1 for a total of five times. (ie, I rolled a 4 and can change it to 3 for the better bonus). You can only make one adjustment per roll. If you prefer a vegetarian lifestyle, you do not get this bonus.

  • Tarantula. This creepy-crawly doesn't mind whoever gets on it. And with eight feet, it is a lot more stable than any of the other mounts! If you land on an option that subtracts from your charged attack, you can choose to ignore it and keep on moving. You can only do this three times.

  • Small Dragon. The small dragon is still a hatchling and needs to be loved (also it can't fly)! If you are a serpent/dragon based creature, it REALLY loves you and grants you a +3 bonus to your attack! Otherwise and if you are NOT a serpent/dragon-based creature, you can ignore any movement impairing effect three times. (ie, if you roll a 5 or 8 you do not subtract from your movement; just treat it like you rolled a +0).

  • Jaguar. This haughty creature hates any and all who dare insult its honor by riding on it. However on the flip side, its ferocity and unpredictability grant it a +5 charged attack bonus to any who ride it. Now the only problem is getting it to move forward in the direction you want it to go...

Mount Determination

Don't have a mount for today? Roll a 6-sided dice to determine what you get:

  1. Goat
  2. Wolf
  3. Tarantula
  4. Tortoise
  5. Tortoise
  6. Tortoise

Do this once. This will be your mount for this exercise.

Yes, you can change the color on the form. Whenever you roll your movement, please fill in one of the squares to keep track of your location. You need to fill the bar from left to right, charging. Once you have filled the bar, your character will unleash the attack they "charged" when running down the field onto the target.

You only need to fill the bar and hit the target once. You can do this up to three times, should you wish, but the minimum you must fill up the bar is once.

FUN FACT:
Originally this was going to be a new method of PvPing. These mechanics will make their way over to Amityville soon, so if this perks your interest please keep an eye open for that!

BONUS:
kheleksul has been AMAZING and has provided us with some lines to color! If you'd like to have a visual of what your mount looks like, feel free to color one or have someone color for you! You will need an art program that can create layers in order to color these.

If you are not participating in this class, you may also color one. My only request is that you please do NOT use these anywhere else, as they were made for this event. Thank you!

There are two versions of these lines: one with a pre-made saddle, and one without for those who wish to draw their own saddle. Enjoy!

The Isle of War was nothing like the Isle of Famine.

Where Famine consisted of hot sand, bright sun, and a very desert-like environment that smelled of grass and various plants, War was made up wooden buildings built high up in the arms of the trees of the forest. There were no visible roads or paths when one first entered the island, and there were things littering the ground everywhere - bones, feathers, broken spears, splintered pieces of wood and metal, like small trophies, constant reminders of past wars and past victories. And while it wasn't, perhaps, completely cozy, there was something about it that was extraordinarily interesting all the same.

Sparrow's first class on the Isle of War, however, was not set in the treetops like the rest of the civilization, but on the ground. He dutifully followed the various signs here and there (wondering, in the process, what - or who, rather, the bones were from) until he reached his destination.

When he arrived, it was in the midst of a clearing of trees, and the instructors were seated on a fallen log, conversing with one another. There were no other places to sit, so Sparrow stood there instead, tucking his hands behind his back and peering around curiously. The two horsewomen seemed identical in physical appearance (with the exception of their very starkly different clothing choices), but apparently not quite as identical in personalities.

"Er," said Sparrow, once he could get a word in edgewise. "My name is Sparrow Heartreed..."

His voice fell on deaf ears. The two were now scuffling furiously in the middle of the clearing, each one squawking irritatedly at the other. Sparrow eyed them, rather taken aback, but he said nothing, merely rubbed his face with his hand.

And so it went until the two sisters had finished their little...disagreement, with Radha pinning Faiza to the ground victoriously. Sparrow watched the demonstration that followed this with a great deal of interest, his eyes fixed on the horse as it rode around - and then he took several steps backwards as he tried to avoid being trampled. But both sisters held their control with poise and elegance and it seemed as though not a single student were actually touched.

When it came time to actually make their own knot, Sparrow held the length of rope in his hand and looked at it a bit dubiously. While he enjoyed running and playing sports, he had never been particularly good at any sort of...outdoors-y type things.

So he tried tying a knot. His first attempt seemed quite successful, and Sparrow smiled down at it, pleased - until it fell apart in his fingers.

Sparrow frowned. Then he tried again.

Kettil and Endzela had wandered into the class and had watched the Horsemen with some amusement which then turned to wonder when the mounts came into play. That was very nice but Kettil wouldn't trade his Endzela for anything in the world not even for a fancy pony. When they were told to tie their knots he took what he was offered into his hands and then started tying the knot with some success but as he held it up it became undone and his face fell for a second or two while Endzela held back her amusement at his failure.

...His mouth set into a thin line of concentration.

No. He would not let this line ... poor excuse for string put him down. Nope. He wasn't going to let it happen.

The young Reaper started to try again.

Knot tying? Ok, okay. She could do this. Amarus stared at the vine, her eyes narrowed, and focused on imitating the gestures of the horseman.

The new isle wasn't so bad, though very different. However, she had gone back to her usual state: silvery, blank eyes took everything in without so much as a handful of blinking over the entire explanation. Amarus merely stood with her arms at her sides, tilting her head now and again, bell jingling. She didn't notice her friends nearby, because she was pretty focused on the task at hand, and the desire to not have to ride a beast.

Still, the prospect of learning to fight on horseback, effectively, was something at which Amarus would not turn her nose up. She couldn't afford to have that kind of weakness, now that she knew she had it. Hopefully lassoing would go okay.

Still highly focused on her task, Amarus tied the lasso's knot just right the first time, without pause. It felt good, after failing so many times at Conquest, to do something right.

Amarus hadn't seen many of her friends on the isle of Conquest, though at least she had made some new ones. Faustus and Olivia, in particular. Although she had been pretty focused on the instructional part, and laughing internally while the sisters quarreled, Amarus finally noticed that someone she had not seen in a very long time was there. In fact, it was the first boil she'd fought at Amityville, who had subsequently expressed to her that it was a little weird to fight people she had just met.

Not here, apparently. Amarus called out, happily, "Hey, Sparrow!" With that, she tested her new lasso, attempting to swing it and rope it around her acquaintance. Even if she didn't know him perfectly, Amarus did know that she got along with the boil. Hopefully he wouldn't be too annoyed that she had successfully lassoed him.

This was way better than trying not to set things on fire with some incense, as instructional as she might have found the class. Well, it had also been a fairly exciting class, she couldn't say that was untrue. Still, Amarus was already feeling a lot more at home with the War isle.

Just please nobody make her ride a horse.

To tie a knot would require dextrous fingers, which . . . Mort didn't normally have. And indeed, his mind had wandered a bit during the sisters' explanation because, as usual, the zomboil's mind couldn't help but stray to how pretty they both were. Not to mention what it would be like to have wings . . . But he had snapped at to attention once more once the task was given, though the vines were . . . bad memories of the plants from Famine.

Not to mention net wasn't the best at knot-tying. Seating himself beside Amarus and not far from the blond reaper, Mort attempted to recreate the knot the sisters had shown, though all he managed to do was create a tight, useless knot. "Mrrrr . . . Harder than looks," he mumbled.

Second time's the charm, as he recreated the steps that he had done prior but made some adjustments to make it to where the rope would not unravel on him entirely as he held it up.

His owl made a soft sound of approval for his success as he held it up for her to observe. This was by no means a crowning achievement but it certainly was up there!

He had been expecting some sort of wrestling ring or airborne arena or punching bags at the very least, but West wasn't exactly disappointed with a clearing and some baskets either, especially when there were horsewomen leaning on said baskets. It seemed members of this clan were inclined to solve arguments with physical displays of dominance. He tilted his head and openly stared as Radha and Faiza came to an agreement, then retrieved a length of rope and got to knotting. It didn't take long before he had imitated Radha's knot. Now, who to try it out on?

Let's see here. Now he had his lasso it was time to pick his target. There were a couple of students around already to choose from and he glanced at his Owl upon his shoulder who gave an indifferent sound and tilted her head from one person to the other but made no selection for him. After all this was his class not hers.

His eyes fell on West. He recognized the Demon, had fun with him at the last place. He twirled the rope a bit and then managed to lasso the poor boil that was his chosen target just then.

Kettil grinned at his success but then chuckled a bit, "Sorry! Just doing what I gotta do. No hard feelings."

He then began to reclaim his properly knotted rope so he could pick a new target.
