 Xiāofáng smiled warmly to herself, eyes closed briefly as she conjured up the image of her mate in her minds eye.
Mate.
Such a word had never had any true meaning to her before now... but all of a sudden it had become filled with such a bundle of emotions and hope and dreams that such a simple sound hardly seemed enough to hold everything it represented. Within her thoughts the large, powerful back and white shape seemed far more able, as strong and as eternal as the very mountains she had once crossed to reach this pride.. a pride that had fulfilled not only her basic needs for survival, but needs she had never realised she even possessed... Love had bloomed in this parched, dry desert and she felt blessed every day she awoke and realised that all that had happened was not a dream, but was in fact, reality.
Sighing softly, the warm bubble of happiness in her chest giving no indication that it was going to fade away any time soon, she opened her eyes and lifted her head, gazing down from her view point perched atop a large, flat rock, and out across the red desert sand. She was hoping to catch a glimpse of the one who filled her thoughts, gaze sweeping the horizon for the black and white pelt of Xagan.

It was a strange feeling. He had loved other females, of course, all of those females had been his sisters and that was a different type of love. This love, well it was all encompassing, all he could really think about. He was driving the other guards crazy. He chuckled quietly, he was on his way back to his lady and the others, well, they were clearly jealous. Very, very jealous. It had occurred to him that he hadn't introduced Xao to his sisters yet. He wasn't really sure why he hadn't done that. Well possibly because he didn't want to see her subjected to his siblings careful stares. Of course they both knew he had found someone and they were both nagging him when ever they saw him alone. He supposed he should really suggest it. He knew where Xao would be and as he rounded the dune he smiled his roguish smile. There she was his little lover. "Hey shorty." He whispers almost to himself as he picked up his paws and raced towards her. Placing his paws on the rock he stands on his hind legs and licks her fetlock of hair. "Hows my half pint today?"

Having been looking for him, she of course saw him coming from some way off, but enjoyed the view as her large mate came bounding across the sands to where she lay sprawled on her side on the warm stone. Ginning as he licked her fluff of mane she purred happily, pushing up onto her front paws so she could rub her cheek against his thick mane.
"Hey big guy." She smiled up at him, her expression tender and open, something only he ever saw from the usually competent, self-reliant female. "Dusty." She replied with a contented chuckle, despite the dryness that had settled into her bones with the drought that had parched the land and the pride in equal measure. She had never been happier than when her mate was near by. Lifting a paw she nudged the glass bottle that hung about her neck, the precious liquid within sparkling in the bright light. "Thirsty?" She offered with a warm, tender smile. The water was the last she had from her trip out past the pride's boarders. For while there was talk of having taken a watering hole from a nearby pride, she had not been able to go so far out and was still seeking out smaller oasis' closer to the pride, water that the cubs could reach rather than a place only adults with permission could visit.
"How has your day been, my mountain-man?" She asked playfully, standing up in order to press her body against his far larger form, almost eye level perched up on her rock with him mostly still on the sand below.

He chuckles quietly, their nicknames for each other made him smile. She was just beautiful and dainty his little half sized lioness, his lady. "You should keep that water, I'm fine." He smiles and touches her nose with his own his deep blue eyes smiling happily.
"I was thinking..." He trials off and looks at the horizon "You should meet my sisters. They have been nagging me about meeting you." He chuckles, he couldn't really say no to his sisters they were the boss despite his pure denial about being bossed around. Xao was his boss now too, she owned his heart which was more than his sisters had ever owned though they owned his loyalty.
"Especially if we are to get a den together." He grins a roguish grin. "I don't want them to think I have abandoned them.... Plus if I don't introduce you soon they will probably seek you out which would probably be less fun without me there." He shakes his head and chuckles under his breath. "My sisters are hard work but, I love them, they are the rest of my family." He smiles lightly, a very serious look passing over his dark feature. "Waddya say shorty? Up for a dreaded meeting with my siblings?"

Smiling softly she dipped her head, letting him get away with not accepting the water, she always made sure she had at least a little with her now, in case it was needed. Her expression softened as he brushed their noses together, moving to lean into his furry strength, content to rest against him, his sheer size and strength like her own special sanctuary. She always loved being close to him despite how hot the desert got.
Pricking her ears as he continued to speak she twisted to look up at him, a warm smile curling across her muzzle. "I would love to meet your family." She purred happily, no evidence of nerves or worry appearing, instead she looked excited to meet his sisters who she had heard about several times. It seemed like a big step, getting introduced to such important lioness' in his life... she hoped they liked her, but even if they didn't it would take more than a couple of disgruntled females to split her and her mate apart. Though they had not been together very long, he was already an integral part of her life and she couldn't imagine him not being beside her.
Suddenly another part of his words struck her and she blinked up at him, a warm blush swiftly darkening her cheeks. A den! Their den... a den for them to share.. together.. just with each other... She had not really let herself think that far ahead, but suddenly, hope filled her chest and formed a lump in her throat. A home, their home... Where they could settle down together and raise a family. her heart swelled at the thought and she gazed up at Xagan, rapidly blinking away the slight moistness of happy tears.
They would be a real family....

The big male smiled, he was glad how excited she looked and he moved his nose to her cheek and brushed away the tear there. "You're part of my family now shorty. They will accept you because they know how happy you make me." He pushes off the rock and stands square upon the sand turning his gaze to look up at the dainty lioness.
"Come on half pint I'll take you to your new family." He smiles "and then, we can think about that den. I think its about time I left my sisters to their own devices." He chuckles, looking up at the soft red lioness. He felt a sudden excited flutter in his chest at introducing his mate, his lady to his family. They would approve of her he just knew it and if they didn't, well, nothing would stop him finding a den with his shorty.
"Come on my midget gem, lets go."

Blushing when it was apparent he had spied her silly tears, she beamed up at him, standing fully and giggling at his comment. "Well.. I'm not letting you escape me now, so I hope they like me." She leaned over and licked his fuzzy cheek, making his fur stick upwards.
A flutter settled in her belly as she moved to the lip of the rock. She really did hope they liked her, or at least didn't outright hate her... she could work on the rest if they didn't set their minds against her at the start.
As he motioned finding a den, she knew she had a sappy grin on her face but couldn't really bring herself to care. You only found your lifemate once and she figured if there was any time when she could get away with looking sappy, it was on such an occasion as now. They were going to find their own den, their new home.. together. A happy little sigh escaped as she hopped off the rock and moved to stand beside her beloved.
"Lean on then, my husband." She blushed at her own words but purred happily, gliding forwards and brushing her sleek body against his as she stepped past him before turning and looking back over one sleek shoulder. "How do you feel about large litters?" She arched a brow, her smile playful.

Looking down at the smokey red lioness he licks her ears. "Keep your emerald eyes open shorty, if you spot a good place we can take a side trip on the way to see my sisters."
"Husband hmm? does that make you my little woman?" He smiles a quick toothy grin at the beautiful little lioness who had most certainly stolen his heart in a way he thought would never happen. She was just so stunning and witty and just perfect for him. She was his soul mate and he would never let her go again. He couldn't wait to live with her permanently.
He winks playfully at the pretty little lioness lowering his nose he licks her ear and chuckles "I love big families, why do you think I am still with my sisters?" He smirks a little devilish grin and presses his body against hers leading her off towards the dens where he and his sisters currently resided.

Laughing warmly at the licks he bestowed on her, she beamed up at the big loving brute she had claimed as her own. "I will do, but you best do the same, after all your higher up than I am, you should spot it first." Grinning playfully at him she bounded a head a few steps before pausing and letting him catch up again, her paws barely denting the sand as she glided over the wind-swept crust.
"I guess it does.. and you're my man." The thought sent another spark of happiness through her, lighting up her vibrant green eyes. "You do hmm? Well then... you best prepare for lots and lots of cubs." Grinning cheekily she started describing just how many cubs they would have and how busy they would all keep him. Though she was mostly teasing, she had always dreamed of having many litters with the lion she gave her life to, and the thought that the time would come sooner than later filled her with joy. She had the perfect man at her side, and soon they would have their own den and a lovely litter full of perfect balls of fluff. Happier than she had ever been, she contentedly walked by her mate's side as they went off to find his sisters.
