General Information
As the general, jack-of-all trades division, the Mist Hunter training course is a combination of the other divisions' training challenges and also one of the more complicated. The goal of this course is to rescue the princess in the tower. Below her, you'll find yourself confronted with a number of shadowling attackers, and beyond them, a room of only slightly deadly traps. But even should you reach her location, you still need to pick the lock on the manacles holding her in place. Unskilled fiddling with the locks will prove unhealthy for both the princess and yourself. And once that's done, you need to make your way back down through the traps and shadowlings, defending the princess the whole way.

The Miss Taken Tower is one of the most challenging and frustrating courses available.

If you fail: your princess dies, and you are quite possibly KO'd. Senior hunters are observing and will make with a timely rescue as needed.

If you win: the princess will adore you for the rest of her exceedingly brief existence. Peen points for 100% health for you and the Princess, shadowlings fought, going for consecutive rescues.

  • Part 1
    Mechanics
    - roll your regular attack
    - roll your regular attack again
    - if you miss an attack, you lose 50% of your full HP
    - if you have an available recovery bonus, you may try to use that to avoid HP loss

    Bonus Mechanics
    - This bonus is consumable.
    - for the Mist Course, it is recommended you review the mechanics of the other division courses, as the division bonuses carry over.

    - Trainees: 0 recoveries
    - Mist/Sun Trainees: 1 recovery
    - Hunters: 1 recovery
    - Mist/Sun Hunters: 2 recoveries

"Well," said Gale, standing outside of the enormous tower that stretched out above his head with a disgruntled sort of expression on his pale face. "This isn't, ah...quite what I had imagined, but all right."

He debated whether he actually wanted to do this, but he did need the practice and it would certainly boost his self esteem a bit.

...hopefully.

Gale gave a small sigh, unfolding his arms from where they were across his chest. Then he squared his shoulders, set his jaw, and stepped forward into the Mist Tower.

Not even two steps in and Gale was already mobbed by the black shadow things. He swung the rifle around quickly and fired off a few quick, direct shots, taking out as many of them as he could before darting further up the steps, up to the next level.

Good grief, this is nervewracking.

<< Better or worse than the Death trial? >>

...not sure yet. We'll see.

As it turned out, he didn't have to compare the two courses, since the second level of the tower reminded him a great deal of the Death hunter course - a room of large, wide tiles that he had to get across without landing any of the traps.

Gale eyed the room very suspiciously. Then he eased carefully in, testing out the first tile with his foot. After he was satisfied that it was not going to explode or turn him into a pile of cinders, he slipped further onto it, and was quite relieved when it held his weight nicely.

The second tile he almost stepped on.

Almost. At least until he heard Jinhai's sharp warning note ring in his head and Gale withdrew his leg, choosing the tile next to it instead. It turned out to be a good thing - the tile he had almost stepped on had begun to smoke around the corners.

Thanks.

"Take two."

So far, so good, thought Gale as he fired off several more shots, darting here and there within the confines of the tower. It was not the easiest place to move around in, and Gale felt himself skid several feet to the left, then to the right as he attempted to get through the black mass of creatures.

And then he was back at the death-like stage. Gale rubbed a hand over his face and frowned at the tiles in front of him, trying to figure out which way to go first.

The first tile he hesitated at, then moved to the one next to it.

BOOM.

Okay, maybe not such a good idea after all.

Fortunately for Gale he managed to make it the rest of the way through the room without any sort of explosions.

If this turns into another death trap...

<< You're doing fine. >> said Jinhai, sounding absurdly cheerful, for some strange reason.

One manacle down - now for the next.

"Yesss," Gale muttered to himself as he got the right sided manacle off, the metal falling to the ground with a clink.

He eyed the Ryan!Princess.

"Why did it have to be a guy, bloody hell - "

It was both difficult and frustrating to try and get through the tower while trying to keep Ryan!Princess from wandering away. She (Or was it he? This was confusing) had already beamed a wide, starry-eyed smile up at him and Gale had stared blankly before grabbing the princess' wrist and dragging her - him - it - down the stairs, trying to shoot the shadowlings one handed.

It was not that easy. But at least he managed to get off a few decent shots.

"Heeeroooo," crooned Ryan!Princess, and wrapped her - his - its - arms around Gale's neck, happily swaying back and forth.

Gale was officially creeped out.

"Er," he said, and proceeded to shove Ryan!Princess away, blushing furiously. "Off, off, let's go, let's go."

<< This is horribly entertaining. >>

Shut up.
