Training Moon Hunter PRINCESS ISLAND General Information Maintaining a superior defense is the pride of the Moon Division, defending even at the expense of attacking. However, this can be hard, especially for trainees who just got new magic weapons full of glowing and powers. Thus the Princess Island. At the center of the island sits a princess who will do absolutely nothing to protect herself, and it's up to you to build defenses that will withstand shadowling attacks so she she doesn't die in a horribly realistic manner.
There's four main paths for shadowling's to travel through, and you have 3 types of building materials to create your defenses from: straw bales, wood, and bricks. The sturdier the material, the sturdier the barrier, but the fewer you can build in the allotted time. After a set amount of time, the princess will crush a pumpkin pill, attracting varying amounts of lurking shadowlings. You get to watch helplessly from the observation station, without getting to attack yourself.
These creature are extremely weak and ill formed, coming up against a solid defense they will disperse, but in turn they also weaken said defense. When a defense goes down, they go right to the princess and attack her. Should she survive the wave, you get to go back down, rebuild, and do it again.
If you fail: the princess has died, horribly, and you've wasted a lot of time on this only to look fairly incapable. All things considered? Most pleasant course to fail.
If you win: peen points and bragging rights go to those with the healthiest princess and lasted through the most attack waves. If you choose to go beyond 5 rounds, switch the enemy dice roll to 4 d20s.
Mechanics Your princess has 20 hp First, roll the strength of you defense, using the dice for whichever building type you choose.
Brick: 4 d12 Wood: 8 d6 Hay bales: 12 d4
The order of the die determine the HP for each barrier location. For example, with bricks, rolling 5/6/8/1, would mean that path 1 has 5 HP, path 2 has 6 HP and so on. With a wood roll of 3/3/3/1/2/5/5/2, the first 2 dice would equal the amount of the first path. Brick would be the least math-y of the building materials (you lazy asses.) Roll 4 d12 for the attacking forces. Once again the order of the dice correspond with the path being affected. Then do the math to determine the status of your defenses and princess. Example: My defenses are 5/6/8/10 The attackers are 3/7/3/8
The result defenses are 2/-1/5/2 Negative numbers are taken off the princesses HP, leaving her at 19 HP. Go back and rebuild your defenses in the same manner as before, you'll be building on top of old defenses so you add the new defense HP to the remaining defense HP. Negative numbers = 0 HP for the defense, not negative HP. Minimum rounds to complete the course is 3
Bonus Mechanics Their defense expertise allows them to build slightly sturdier barriers. This applies to all paths that start at 0 hp. They do not stack. So if you are re-building on a barrier that lasted from an existing round, this bonus does not apply, as it is already still in effect.
Trainees: 0 hp bonus Moon Trainees: +1 hp bonus to each path Hunters: +1 hp to each path Moon Hunters: + 2 hp to each path

Attempt 1Ami stared at the controls of this little game, eager to understand how it worked. Apparently it was some sort of defense exercise. Ami couldn't comprehend how turning some knobs and buttons was going to teach her to defend herself, but anything was better than sparring again. After getting her a** handed to her by Before, she was in no mood to spar. Insecurities had struck.
Moments later she was dropped down ON the actual island. "Wait a second- I thought you guys said-" It was pointless. They were already gone. She had a princess to defend though.
God that thing was creepy. Luckily it didn't look like any hunters she knew- it must've been a hunter that she hadn't met yet. It wasn't strange considering she was both new and introverted. The person's mug was decent enough. It was just creepy how it sat there and did nothing.
Ami sighed and began building her defenses. The bricks were gaudy and hideous, and the hay? What are we in a barn? Ami went with the tasteful wood- a reddish mahogany color. "All right princess. It's you and me."
The princess, of course, just sat there.Status Wave: .5 Path 1 HP: 8 + 1 = 9 Path 2 HP: 9 + 1 = 10 Path 3 HP: 6 + 1 = 7 Path 4 HP: 8 + 1 = 9 Princess HP: 20/20

The shadows came like moths to a light. She'd tried to built up some sort of defense as quickly as possible, but it wasn't enough. Ami wasn't very strong to begin with, and carrying around sticks and wood wasn't very easy for her tiny frame.
Shadows came quickly, and without warning. She summoned Junpei and batted a few from the second path, but while she was looking away the first and fourth path were attacked. "s**t," she mumbled, "What am I supposed to-" Status Wave: 1 Path 1 HP: -2 Path 2 HP: 5 Path 3 HP: 3 Path 4 HP: -1 Princess HP: 17/20

Ami noticed her princess had been hit a few times, but overall it wasn't too bad. She was still just walking around aimlessly, not doing anything in particular. Good. Better doing nothing and safe that destroyed and helping.
It seemed for the moment, the shadows had stopped. She looked left, then right, still holding her glaive steadily. She was ready for any attack. They were probably poised and just waiting for her to drop her guard.
After a few more moments, she realized she was wasting time. Nothing was coming. "Alright princess. Let's get to work." She began stacking wood again. This was exhausting for her tiny frame. Status Wave: 1.5 Path 1 HP: 7 Path 2 HP: 10 Path 3 HP: 6 Path 4 HP: 2 Princess HP: 17/20

Ami grunted (very quietly, under her breath like a lady, of course), as she lifted up another piece of wood. Goddamn the princess. Goddamn this entire island. Here she was sweating and doing disgusting work for a golem that wouldn't even respond.
Like the last wave, the shadows came wordlessly, and she fought them off, but it wasn't enough. The dumbass princess walked right into a patch of shadows, and there was nothing Ami could do but swing at them until they finally relented.
"I am going to kill the inventor of this game," she mumbled.Status Wave: 2 Path 1 HP: 6 Path 2 HP: -2 Path 3 HP: 4 Path 4 HP: -8 Princess HP: 7/20

For a moment or two, the paths actually held up. That is, until she realized she'd entirely forgotten about the fourth path. She didn't even think about it until she heard the princess giving little wails and moans from being hit.
"s**t not again!" she cursed, running over. It was too late, the damage was already done. She was looking severely beaten up too. Shiiit. She just couldn't think about the entire area- Instead her scope focused on one very specific area, and nothing else.

Too fast. They were all coming too fast for her. She really did try to block out as many attacks as she could, but they just kept coming. First from the second path, then the third, then the fourth. A never ending storm of little shadows, big shadows, wide shadows, strange shadows.
She didn't even hear the pill crack. The princess just decided to up and quit, and Ami was so focused on her current fight and keeping HERSELF alive that the entire ending went unnoticed.

Attempt 2It had been a long time since Ami had attempted Princess Island. Honestly after her first attempt, she wasn't too hot on the whole ordeal. It was just too much to take it. She liked being able to focus on one pathway, or just the princess. Not four pathways, the princess, and the shadows.
Sighing, she walked into the training course, fully expecting another no-name princess that she was going to have to protect.
Instead she found Feng in a dress.
"No. Oh god ******** no, ANYONE but him." She looked over at one of the guards, who simply shook his head. She had to do this.
Grumpily, she threw bricks whichever way she could, just sort of piling them wherever. Why did it have to be Feng? There were some things you couldn't unsee.Status Wave: .5 Path 1 HP: 5 Path 2 HP: 6 Path 3 HP: 7 Path 4 HP: 12 Princess HP: 20/20

It was no surprise how beat up the princess got. After all, Ami hadn't given two shits about protecting him. Sure she felt bad actually watching him get beaten up, but while preparing the defenses? Not an ounce of care.
Mostly because Feng annoyed her with his awkward, but she wouldn't say that. Not out loud anyways.

Okay, she actually felt somewhat bad about that. As much as he annoyed her, Ami didn't like watching someone get beat up without purpose. She tried to arrange the bricks a bit more defensively, but spent so much time building up the fourth path that she forgot the first one even existed.
By the time the timer ran out, poor path one had nothing, and path 4 was a monster.Status Wave: 1.5 Path 1 HP: 0 Path 2 HP: 3 Path 3 HP: 4 Path 4 HP: 12 Princess HP: 10/20

She cringed as she watched her "handiwork" on path one. The monsters attacked that opening instantly, but interestingly enough, they went for the second path more vigorously.
She reached into her pocket to for her journal to jot that down, only to remember she'd left it in her other jacket. "Darn," she said, to no one in particular.
It would've been nice to have some notes or references for this. She wasn't good at gut intentions.Status Wave: 2 Path 1 HP: -3 Path 2 HP: -4 Path 3 HP: 2 Path 4 HP: 8 Princess HP: 3/20

Which was, of course, a stupid plan. Path 3 was barraged almost instantly, and knocked down. Punch after punch, Feng just kept standing there with a stupid look on his face. He looked awkward even when getting beat up yeesh.
A loud slam was heard as Ami's fist met the control panel. Feng had cracked his pumpkin pill and it was game over.

Attempt 3Ami had cooled down a bit from seeing Feng crack the pill, and was now back once more to try her luck. She could do this. She had come up with a sort of lame strategy, but it was at least a reference she could rely on. She set her journal on the control panel and stared out onto the island.
What she saw horrified her. Wilson. In a ******** dress.
She had the worst luck with Princess Island. First she had to see Feng and be scarred for life. Now she had to watch Wilson get beat up and be humiliated. She was actually choking back a laugh at Wilson, but she knew as soon as this start she was going to have to beat him up.
Sticking to the plan, Ami tried hoisting bricks everywhere she could put them. Not focusing, spreading. The only bad part was that she ended up spreading them rather thinly. It was executed according to plan, but it wasn't a good defense. It wasn't the way a moon should've thought.Status Wave: .5 Path 1 HP: 5 Path 2 HP: 3 Path 3 HP: 7 Path 4 HP: 8 Princess HP: 20/20

Monsters poured in through every crevasse. At least it felt that way. Ami frantically watched with her eyes glued to the screen as Wilson took hit after hit. She bit her lip in anxiety, and felt worse because she wasn't protecting him at all.
This wasn't how a moon was supposed to act.
She should've defended him. She should've spent less time thinking and more time doing. Status Wave: 1 Path 1 HP: -7 Path 2 HP: -4 Path 3 HP: 3 Path 4 HP: 3 Princess HP: 9/20
