Vreni is serious and down-to-earth. She concerns herself with the practical side of things and prefers to do tasks in a simple and efficient method. She's very aware of cause-and-effect, and is willing to do almost anything to achieve the ends she seeks, whatever it may be. As a result she is often commandeering. Many of her peers perceive her to be a "perfectionist" due to her attitude and while it is true she likes a job-well-done, Vreni is not strictly speaking a perfectionist. She simply sets the bar for herself and expects others to reach that same bar. She takes her responsibilities seriously and carries through with all her commitments and thus expects the same from others.

Vreni has a soft spot for stratagem, and in her free time, likes to read accounts of ancient battles, of the grand strategies of previous generals. Vreni's interest also extends to 3rd and 4th generation warfare, but it is the strategists of the past she enjoys reading most. Sun Tzu's The Art of War and Machivelli's The Prince, are two well-worn books in her possession. There's something about the clear-cut, no nonsense approach to war outlined in books that appeals to her. She also has a soft spot for romance novels/chick lit of the really-trashy-bad-but-entertaining sort, but no one needs to know about that. No, really. No one needs to know about that.

She has a strong sense of determination that drives her. There is no such thing as giving-up in Vreni's world, as defeat and failure are things that she both detests and fears in equal amounts. It's her tenacious nature that allows her to stand up and keep on going no matter what happens. Vreni isn't the kind of person to sit and bemoan her bad luck. If something happens, it happens. She doesn't sit and curse fate, just silently trudges onwards. When things go wrong, she assumes that it is because she did something wrong and works harder still to prevent it from happening again.

Above all, Vreni hates causing others trouble. She doesn't want to burden anyone. She holds people at a shoulder's length, never really willing to let them in too close. Her troubles, and failures, are her own, and Vreni seemingly lacks the ability to ask for help. She refuses to burden others with her troubles, she wants to be self-sufficient and self-supporting. Her belief is that if she keeps her troubles to herself and keeps others outside, then she'll be able to minimize her negative impact on them, not realizing her silence causes others to worry.

Unfortunately she has a tendency to jump to conclusions and judge people at first sight. Her patience is often short, and her tolerance for "annoying things" and/or idiocy is next to none. She's a very no-nonsense, cut to the chase kind of person. Vreni is not a very 'open' person and is not afraid to make enemies. She does what she thinks is the right course of action, no matter the cost. She is also some-what of a "closed minded" person. Though calling Vreni closed minded isn't exactly correct, she does have a limited viewpoint. It's hard for her to comprehend some ideals or motivations too "out there" or out of her scope of understanding. Vreni believes that people should strive towards a "good" or moral goal, and views self-centered, or "evil" goals as well, bad. And though she doesn't openly judge, she doesn't understand how someone could harm someone else (particularly family and/or friends) for their own gain. She has a tendency to become so rooted in her view, her world and goals, that she sometimes misses the bigger picture.

Appearance: Rich, brown hair. Bangs of some sort, swept to the side maybe? Her hair is long enough to cover the top of her shoulders, but not much longer. It's in a neat and simple braid most of the time. Bust by Zanaroo!

Vreni has "normal" build and is around 5 feet, 4 inches. She's not overtly sporty, but decently fit. (whatever that means)

History:
Her parents died when she was a small child in undisclosed circumstances that she knows nothing about. She's never been particularly "close" to her parent's death, and it hasn't impacted her life as much as her other relatives. After that, Vreni was passed around from relative to relative. None of them wanted to be burdened with the child, and often quickly sent her on her way to someone else's care. It wasn't that they were bad people, but they had lives of their own, and Vreni was often a burden they didn't or couldn't shoulder. When she became a little older, old enough to understand what those words meant, Vreni worked hard to be helpful. She learned to wash the clothes, to clean the house, to make dinner. She stayed out of trouble. She did everything she could to be able to stay with her adoptive families. It was never really enough, and so the cycle continued as Vreni was passed from house to house.

Though Vreni has various experiences with her adoptive families, ranging from amazing to horrible, she doesn't truly begrudge them for sending her on her way. In the end, she was a burden they could not handle, and she reasoned that the fault was her own.

When she was thirteen, Daniel, was kissed by a witch. Vreni was then living with his family and he was one of her cousins (or was a second-cousin? a third cousin? they're all cousins in the end). She happened to see him on her way home from school about to jump from the top of a building. Unable to help him, or do anything but stare, Vreni watched as her cousin jumped from the top of the building. Luckily, very luckily, Daniel didn't die but he was seriously injured. The poor boy broke both his legs and numerous other bones in his body, including two ribs, his left arm and, for some reason, his collar bone. While he was recovering, Vreni did her best to take care of him, going to his hospital room everyday to visit. The girl was haunted by guilt, she had witnessed the event, she'd been there, but she had been unable to stop it. Shortly thereafter, Daniel's family was no longer able to care for her and Vreni was sent on her way. But she never forgot that incident, and it would continue to be a source of nightmares and guilt for years into the future.

When Vreni was fifteen, a couple with which she had no blood relation, adopted her. They were very kind and cared for Vreni as if she was their own child, as they had none. Vreni loves them very much, and above all, does not want to burden them. She wants to stay with them and keep them safe. She wants to protect the happy life that she has now.

Katherine is a housewife, she stays at home and tends to the house and her garden. She has a very sunny disposition, and likes taking care of people. She is an excellent cook and is currently teaching Vreni how to bake. She insists on making Vreni's lunch everyday.

The Smith family dog. He's a Keeshond who is very lazy and likes sleeping and eating. He's taken to Vreni and spends quite a lot of time rolling on her bed, to her great disappointment.

Daniel Eisenberg | 18 | high-school student on the east coast.
Vreni's cousin, who was kissed by a witch when she was thirteen. She lived with him and his family for a while and Daniel is one of her favorite relatives. His ordeal still haunts her. He calls her Vren (pronounced: wren) as a nickname. They maintain sporadic contact.

Vreni's father. Vreni doesn't remember much about him, but apparently he was a researcher at a small start-up.

Vreni's mother. Vreni doesn't remember much about her, but is often told that she resembles her mother.

I made Vreni's history that she was already/has been a mahou shoujo for a while, but if that isn't allowed, just let me know and I'll change her history. I'm also unsure of all her abilities/skills, so if anything needs axe-ing, her defense/support ability will probably be the first to go. In my head, Vreni is more of an attack-based mahou shoujo.

Okay! :D Crit time!

I love that Vreni is centered around books, first of all (also "Wren" makes such a wonderful nickname asansfkladnfl). I was curious more about what happens when her passive attitude breaks down. Usually in passive personalities there tends be to some hidden aggression-- anger at being kept down all the time, frustration of being taken advantage of, etc. -- to balance out the low-keyness. I'd like to hear more about that side of Vreni. We get a little taste of it in her wish, how she hates being alone (and yet ends up alone a lot) and how she hates other people suffering because of wishes. In short, it seems like hatred drives her in some senses, but we don't hear too much about this in her personality. Maybe you could include how much she doesn't like to see others taken advantage of because of how Daniel ended up-- even though she's passive because she doesn't want to inconvenience others, maybe she takes it really personally when someone else's emotions cause someone close to her harm.

I'd also really like to hear more about what Vreni does for fun: beyond reading, is she involved with activities in school? Does she maybe dream of becoming a writer, or write for the school paper? What are her hobbies? Also, does she like mystery books? xD I feel like the strategy and fun reading would be a good combo. I LOVE that she's a chick lit fan in secret. Show us more of her less-serious/hidden sides! I think you've set up her "public face" persona really well-- tell us more about what Vreni does on the weekends, or when she's the only one around to help us understand her more.

Do you have a particular type of bow in mind for her? It might be more helpful to choose something specific, since bow-type weapons can be fairly varied. :) Love her symbol, too! Jupiter's interesting as a god because he represents balance in a lot of ways, too. He has a serious, ruler side but can also get furious when someone close or an important group to him is harmed. I think you could also tie this in a lot to Vreni-- serious and planning, like Jupiter is the commander of the gods, but also willing to go throw down if it comes to it. Attack-based seems well-suited to Vreni, too.

Vreni Hirsch is a very intriguing character, and while her history is brief, we'd like to know more about her and her growth. As such, we've decided that as a runner-up she is an amazing character that might as well be approved into the roster. I will be drawing her shortly!

The only request I make (and if you'd respond back here, it'd be great) is if she can switch her 'Bow' weapon to any other Bow variety, such as Longbow (which you mentioned in a reply before this and suits Vreni perfectly) or a Crossbow. If that is alright, we're set to go, and thank you!
