Cascade was exasperated. “These ruins, they are just too… ruined!” she exclaimed to no one in particular. If she had been less flustered, there was a good chance that she would have made a less redundant observation, but, this time, that wasn’t the case. This cave, which she knew was really a hidden entrance, was just not giving away its secrets. Wherever the path had once been, it seemed to be forever closed, at least without the aid of some heavy machinery, which she, a bizarre Poké hybrid, living in the wilderness, did not have the means of acquiring.

It felt like hours since she had found the switch. Had it been working properly, the way through would have opened up and she would be inside. It had taken her days to just find that. It was all beginning to feel like a waste of time. She had other things to do as well, things she was putting off. She had to go and meet that other Poké girl, the one that was like her. When she saw her before, Cascade thought she that had overheard the name… Sasha? She couldn’t help but find the name somewhat ironic. She should go visit the her soon, though, to find out what she knew.

What Cascade really needed right now was a break. She needed something to distract her. Too many things on one’s mind could drive anyone mad, and she certainly had her share. With a sigh, she walked out of the cave. Sitting on a rock, near the entrance, she pulled out her journal and began flipping through it.

Once more, Tin found himself bored with meditation and resigned himself to further exploration of his new found home. He bounced and waddled his way through the forest, weaving himself in out of trees and having a jolly good time of it all. With a 'tin tin' of excitement and a click of his beak, he had found of his favorite berries! Making his way over to it, Tin couldn't help, but overhear someone talking. "Huh?" he peeped as he wobbled to another bush and peeked through it. It was another lady, but she was different then the last lady he had met.

To him, she seemed a little sad and that wasn't something that he could accept. Taking a good branch of berries in his beak before heading over to her. With some leg power and a bit of wing work, Tin attempted to land on her lap, but failed miserably. Crashing into her journal, he found himself dazed on the ground. "Sorry to disturb you!" he managed, berries still in beak as he sat himself back up. "Hope I didn't scare you."

Cascade’s eyes widened in shock as the little Torchik careened into her journal. After a stunned moment passed, she leaned forward, close to where Tin had landed. Her tongue just peeking out from between her lips, she seemed to take a moment to quickly examine her new acquaintance. “Well, hello there,” she slowly articulated, “You, you would be a... Torchik, correct?” She had never before seen that variety of Pokémon, but she was familiar with them; she practically had a database full of Pokéinfo stored up in her cranium, not that any of that had prepared her for her change.

“And no, no need to apologize,” she continued, sitting back up and straightening her clothing, “You didn’t disturb me; I was mid break as it was. As far as frightening me, no need to worry; I wasn’t scared. Startled? Yes. Scared? No, no, not at all.” Smiling, she added, “I don’t think a cute little Pokémon like you could scare me anyways. Oh, by the way, I am Cascade; it’s a pleasure.”

Tin clicked his beak in a way of laughter as he nodded his head. "That's what I am indeed!" He plopped the berries down by her feet and puffed up his feathers. It was his strange way of blushing since feather don't change colors. "N-never been called cute before by anyone besides mama. A-anyways, It's nice to meet you as well, Cascade. My name is Tin."

His sense of curiosity left him peeking over at her journal to which he motioned to with his wings. "Whaaaats~ thaaaaat~ ?" He cooed, dragging out each word as he gazed up at her. His mind seemed to have been scattered as always when he meets a new person. What's she doing here? What in the world is she? Does she like sour stuff? And of course, what's that thingy she's holding?

“Well hello, Tin. That is a most unique name you have there,” Cascade said with a smile. “I am shocked to hear that, for you are very cute.” She couldn’t help but find most tiny Pokémon adorable. “So where is your mama? Is she nearby? And would she be a Blaziken?” Cascade quested for knowledge; she wanted to know everything. Sometimes this could make her come off as a tad nosey.

“What wha…” she began, only realizing after she started speaking that the Torchik was referring to her journal. “Oh, this is my journal. I write down my thoughts and things I find and such in it.” Holding it open for Tin, she said, “See?” as she pointed at some of the writing.

"Well, it was the first thing I said on birth." Tin replied, his talon picking up an aguav berry and examining it. His size seemed to have increase with the amount of fluffed up feathers, warmth radiating from his body. "Weeell, mama is sorta nearby. She's within the mountain and well, she's a Darmanitan." He hesitated for a moment before continuing. It was a strange thing to admit to someone he'd just met, but Cascade seemed like a nice person. "She's not really my mom, but she took me in and treats me as if I was her own." A sense of pride made him puff up his chest a bit, stand a little straighter. She'd teach him a lot about the world around him and was helping him become stronger.

The swell of pride though seem to diminish as a sense of confusion over took it. He peeked over at Cascade's writings confused. "Mama never taught me how to do this. What does it say?" It didn't really hit him that these might be her private thoughts, but curiosity was like that. He too had a need to learn. "And, what sort of things have you found? Any cool treasure?" His curiosity was slowly combining with the adventurer in him which gave a little bounce to his step.

“Oh I see,” Cascade replied. It was an unusual first word, to be sure, but she didn’t doubt the Torchik’s story. “Well, that was nice of her, to take you in. Have you lived with her long?” That bit seemed even more unusual to her. Though, it was true that she hadn’t been around natural Pokémon all that much, it still managed to catch her off guard. She was pretty sure that it wasn’t a normal everyday occurance, but, shrugging it off, she stated, “Those berries look mighty tasty; they are aguav berries, yes? They are quite bitter, if I recall... I like bitter foods.”

“Well, um,” Cascade began, “the writings are mostly just my thoughts or notes on things that I have found at various sites. As for things I have found, well, I have found a variety of things, but nothing of note here, not yet anyways." After a moment's pause, she added, with a sigh, "I found what should have been the entrance-way, but sadly, the switch no longer seems functional. Without excavation equipment I doubt I will be able to get further.”

"I lived with her for sometime now. Lost track of it all." When she mentioned the berries he propelled himself upward off of ground. "Yes, they're quite bitter. I picked them for you. You looked a little sad from afar, so I thought I could cheer you up." He plucked up the branch, standing on tip toes, he placed the bunch on her lap to enjoy. In a very Torchic way, he smiled up at her or at least as much as his beak would allow.

After listening to Cascade's explanation, Tin found himself in deep thought. He would wait for her to help herself to those berries before peeping up once more. "Are you looking for the old ruins by chance? I've heard some stories of it from the other Pokemon where I live." He thought of all the tunnels and caves that he traversed in to get home, but would any of them help her find what she's looking for. It took a moment of thought before another idea came to mind. "Maybe there's another way in. A back entrance, maybe?"

“Well,” Cascade began, after a moment of thought, “it is nice that you have someone, that you aren’t alone. The world can be a lonely place, at times; I imagine family can help with that.” Sighing slightly, she carefully picked up the branch and, after a quick sniff of the berries, she pulled one off and tossed it into her mouth. As she bit into it, the bitter juice squeezed out, into her mouth. It tasted delicious; she did enjoy bitter foods. After she finished the first berry, she tossed a couple more in. She was hungry; she hadn’t realized how hungry, though, till she had started eating. It was probably good that she was getting something in her stomach.

“Well,” she replied, “none of my research has shown any evidence that there is another way in, but it is possible. Though, if there is, it would likely be in even worse shape than this entrance.”

With a Torchic like grin on his face and a glimmer in his eyes, he spoke again. “What if I told you I could find another way in?” There was a sense of excitement and anticipation in his tiny voice. Shifting about and kicking up some bits of dust he continued, “That I think I could find another way into the ruins going by the stories I've heard...” Glancing around quickly to make sure no one was around to hear him before leaning into to whisper to Cascade. “But you must never tell anyone of The Hold. It's a secret place and we have to go through it in order to find the tunnel that will lead us to your ruins.”

Taking his time, and slowing down his racing heart, Tin plopped a berry in his beak using his claws. A moment of savoring the bitterness and allowing himself to regather his thoughts. The idea of adventure made him giddy, the ability to help someone achieve something only added to the adrenaline running through his small frame. He really was becoming Robin Hood. Saving fair ladies, aiding those in need, and keeping the forest in line. Once he got his thoughts together, he carefully explained his ideas. “You see, some of the pokemon of the hold has been talking about a cave-in in one of the tunnels and how it seemed to open up into another tunnel, but no one has been able to get to it. Or wanted to try since the tunnel seems ready to collapse. If you want to investigate it to see if it'll lead you to your ruins, I'd be happy to escort you and keep you safe!” Tin puffed up his chest to seem brawny and all powerful.

Cascade couldn’t help but look a bit skeptical. It seemed odd to think that this Torchic knew another way in. To her knowledge, no one had entered the ruins in years; yet he thought he knew a hidden route? It seemed most improbable, but still she listened, just in case. “The Hold? What exactly is the Hold?” The knowledge she had of the area dealt more with the structures of humans, past and present. Popping another berry into her mouth, she slowly chewed. Could there be another way in?

“A cave in?” she asked, deep in thought. That could be possible, then. It at least seemed more possible then there being another proper entrance. With how long the ruins had been there, it was entirely possible that the structure was weakening, that part of it had collapsed into this Hold place. The more the thought about it, the more hopeful she became. She couldn’t help but laugh at his comment about keeping her safe, though she did her best to stifle it. He obviously didn’t know who he was dealing with, she was far from defenseless. “Sure, it sounds like a plan; lead the way.”

Tin clicked his beak in thought, “The Hold is where I live. It's kinda a sanctuary. It's an old place though... I think you might like it.” He recalled home, seeing the nook that Maki and Tin lived, the scent of herbs, and the bubbling sound of the river. Soft moss squishing beneath his talons and the soft glow of light emitted from the large crystal above that lit up the entire cavern. He was sure she'd never seen a place like this. A place built by pokemon, completed ages ago and still standing. Though it's purpose was always to house pokemon or at least The Hold was. These ruins that she was looking for must have been built and designed by the humans. Perhaps that's why it was only rumors for him.

“Yep, from what I've heard the trigger was our digger named Osk. He expands The Hold for new arrivals. One of the newer tunnels that he was working on entered another tunnel. One unknown to him and the structure immediately collapsed. Good thing the old Golem rolled out of the way in time.”chuckling to himself as he thought of the aged and ragged pokemon. The chips in his faded and worn armor, the crinkles in his scaly hide. How even the gleam in his red eyes dimmed considerably.

Giving his head a good shake to remove himself from his thoughts, Tin nodded. “Follow me.” With another click of his beak. He lead her along the mountain side away from the blocked entrance that she had found. He continued until he was sure he found one of the many entrances to the Hold and slipped between bushes into the dimly light entrance of the cave. Using his scratch attack, he managed to cause a tiny enough fire against a flint set near the entrance. He had to thank Maki for doing that, setting up each entrance so that there was a flint and twig for him to use to the light his way home. Picking up the lit twig with his, he made his way down the winding path. It started off as a small path just big enough for Cascade to fit without stooping, but soon widened enough for someone her side to stretch out her arms without worry of hitting the walls. Tin continued until a bright light could be seen ahead followed by a soft breeze. Dropping the twig a long the side and blowing out the fire, he motioned toward the light. “Just this way.”

The walk all in all must have been less than five minutes. Five minutes in darkness and dim light made the bright, daylight seem blinding. As Tin stepped into it, he gestured with his tiny wings as widely as he could. “This the Hold. This is my home.” The cavern was large and spacious. Several tiers of stone broke the cavern into levels, none crossing over the center of the Hold to keep from blocking the light of a large crystal that hung down from the ceiling. Moss and lichen grew upon the smooth stone of the walls, vines hang down from tiny cracks in the walls, draping a few of the paths that wind upwards along the walls. Pokemon of all sorts traversed this cavern, a few peeking out from niches along the cavern walls, the younger ones played on the bottom level along the river that wound through the Hold and disappeared into another tunnel. Plants of all sorts grew below here, some found above ground like berries shrubs and old oak trees. The bottom level looked as if it might have been a garden. He motioned to pillars that laid in ruins and old carvings around cavern. It looked as if the pillars were decorations that once stood proud and tall along the sides of the cavern. “Before we go on searching, what do you think of my home?” his voice was controlled, but a sense of excitement shot through him. “It's something else isn't it?”

Cascade had never really lived amongst her own kind. So Tin’s account of the Hold was completely alien to her. The thought of a place built by Pokémon, where a large variety lived, seemed rather unusual. She didn’t doubt the Torchik’s words, it was just she was unfamiliar with the concept. In truth, she was more familiar with ancient human buildings then anything of Pokémon make. The thought of living in such a place actually made her a bit uneasy. She preferred solitude. Merely passing through, though, that should be alright.

Wordlessly, she followed Tin. She was surprised by how close the entrance was. Inside the tunnel, tt was a bit tight, but that didn’t bother her. Cascade didn’t mind tight spaces and she was well versed in going through tunnels. She had spent more time in tight tunnels then she had out in the open. As they made their way into the well lit cavern, Cascade scanned her surroundings. It was definitely a sight. She had never before seen a Pokémon made structure, let alone one of this size. Before seeing it, she would have never guessed that such a place even existed. “It is quite a big larger than I expected,” she answered slowly. She then quickly added, “It is very nice; I’d prefer something smaller though, more secluded.”
