Virtus wasn't a shy young man, and certainly knew when he was in over his head, and when he needed help. Ever since his battle with that senshi in the ally, which could not really be called a battle because he had done absolutely no fighting of any kind, Virtus knew he needed help.
He needed to be trained.
The Senshi of Kindness went to find Remarque, to ask him for help. He'd been able to find the other dark senshi, and was glad when he had agreed to help him a bit. Virtus did not like the idea of fighting, but he had been told time and again that it was necessary and now he believed it.
The white moon were mean. They were cruel and they would hurt him, even kill him, if they had the chance. He didn't understand why, and maybe he would one day, but he did not want to let them succeed in that plan. He needed to stay alive, for his friends and for the people that cared about him.
And anyway, he didn't like getting beaten up. It hurt.
He was waiting for Remarque in the park, by the tree they had met in. It was the easiest place for him to think to meet up at, and he wasn't just being sentimental. Though he couldn't avoid that, either, because he was just a little bit sappy.

Making plans to meet up with another Dark Mirror Senshi was something Remarque had been neglecting; most of the time he was content to tend to his own affairs and gather energy on his own, but when Virtus enlisted his assistance, he found himself in no way unwilling to make an appearance. In a way, he had worried about the newer Dark Mirror Senshi since they first met.
Virtus was not like anyone he’d ever encountered; he was too open, too trusting, too innocent…
Ares must have known something he didn’t, because Remarque—for the life of him—couldn’t figure out why she’d have wanted him on the team.
Still, he wasn’t going to turn Virtus down; he was asking for help and Remarque was more than willing to give it. It put a nice twist to his nightly routine, and given that Remarque was feeling healthier tonight than he had been in a while, he found himself actually looking forward to the evening.
It was easy enough to find Virtus by the tree—and Remarque was rather glad to see him on the ground, this time. “Hey,” he greeted as he approached. “Glad to see you in one piece. You holding up all right?”

"I am!"
He turned to look at Remarque and smiled brightly, chuckling as he nodded in greeting. He had considered climbing the tree, but remembered well what had happened last time and it wasn't something he wanted to do again. Remarque had teased him for it, and rightly so. He'd learned from that.
"Well, I mean. I had a run in with a senshi... that's why I asked for your help... I need all the help I can get, I think. But I want to get better! She just said I was evil, and she beat me up pretty badly."
He smiled as he spoke, though his eyes were a little sad.
It hadn't been a very fun encounter. he wanted to be able to defend himself properly, so he didn't get his butt kicked, didn't fail in his duties and so he wouldn't scare Navi again. He shook his head.
"Thank you for agreeing to meet me. I know you're strong and good at this, and I was hoping a little might rub off on me. I'll do my best!'

Remarque’s lips pursed when Virtus mentioned the senshi; it was one thing to have disagreeing viewpoints, though to call Virtus evil? To attack him? Regardless of what side he was on, Remarque likened it to attacking a puppy. “Yeah, well. We’ll see what we can do about it. What’s your power, anyway?” he asked, not entirely sure what sort of skill the senshi of kindness could have, and if his attack was useless…
Then Remarque was just going to have to work extra hard to make sure Virtus wasn’t at a total disadvantage. He doubted he could teach him enough hand-to-hand combat in a single night to keep him safe, but a start was good, and he knew a few gyms he could recommend to get the guy enrolled in some classes.
“Your attack, do you just spurt sunshine and happiness or do you do any damage with it?” he inquired, figuring it best to get a move on with this lesson before someone sensed them and decided to crash it.

It really had been like attacking a puppy. Virtus had probably fought worse than one, even. He was useless and had just taken a vicious beating while struggling to apologize for whatever he had done to provoke it, though he still wasn't entirely sure on that front.
He imagined it was just because he was a dark senshi. It bothered him that it was enough to justify hurting someone.
But then, he supposed that was what he had to do in turn. White Moon senshi were dangerous, and he had to remember that so it didn't happen again. He might get himself killed that way, and that wasn't going to be acceptable.
"I can heal people," he said, looking at Remarque with a smile. he liked his skills but they, like the rest of him, weren't really useful in a fight. After a fight, maybe, and for his teammates, but not if he hoped to hurt anyone. Or defend himself, at least.
"I can't do any damage though... I guess if I need to fight I have to do it the old fashioned way. But I'm okay with that! I want to learn, anyway, and I'll be happy with anything you can show me."

Heal? Virtus could heal? Well, hell, what was the boy doing out here all alone if all he could do was heal?
“…Your girlfriend probably should have kept a better eye on you if she let you wander out, completely defenseless. I’ll have to have a talk with her later about that,” Remarque said, though most likely spoke only in jest. He might not have had a very close bond with Navi, but that wasn’t going to stop him from chastising her about letting her boyfriend—whom he had deemed her responsibility somewhere along the way—wander around and get his a** kicked.
“Anyway. I like fighting the old fashioned way the best, powers or not.” Not that his powers were in any way offensive, but they came in handy if you needed to make a getaway—which was not a retreat, Remarque reminded himself—or if you wanted to throw in a few extra-cheap shots. “Who was it that knocked you around?” he asked out of pure curiosity. It wasn’t that Remarque was purposefully wasting time, but given his recent bout of sickness, he hadn’t been keeping as active as he’d have liked and needed a bit more time to stretch—as he was currently doing, twisting a bit and popping his back as he stretched out his arms.

Virtus blinked, then looked thoughtful.
"Well, I'm sure she would come with me if she weren't busy as well, and if I asked her to. But I said I was going to get some help, and I didn't think to invite her. Should I have?"
He seemed to have missed the point there, but he smiled and tried to make up for it.
"I'm sure we'll be alright without her. I know I'm supposed to do this on my own, so I can bring energy and be a useful member of the team. I want to do that, and I can't always have her with me! It'd drive her crazy." He chuckled, but he was sure it was probably true in some sense. Everyone needed their space, and their time to do their own thing. Baby sitting a newbie all the time was not that fun.
"I don't remember her name," he said, his expression falling a bit. "She threw garbage around. She was very pretty but she called me names and told me I was evil. I think she thought I was being sarcastic when I apologized for upsetting her... I hadn't meant to make her so mad though."

Though Virtus had a good point about wanting to give Navi some space, Remarque was still going to hold a grudge against her for not keeping a better eye on her boyfriend. Sure, it wasn’t like he was her responsibility or anything, but if Raven was as helpless as Virtus was, he wouldn’t have let her go out into the world unprotected. Though he wouldn’t admit it out loud, Raven was very important to him. He wasn’t one to access sentimental emotions easily, and though he and his girlfriend had been together for months now, he was still only grazing the surface of affection. Regardless of whatever emotional taps he was keeping tightly under wraps, he would have been furious if anything had happened to Raven and he could have prevented it.
“All right. Well, first things first, you shouldn’t apologize to the senshi. They’re the bad guys, remember?” He gave Virtus a slightly scolding look, and then lowered his arms to his side and took a more relaxed position. “Now, though. Let’s see what sort of power you’re packing. I want you to hit me. Don’t care where, but keep it above the belt or I’ll beat you twice as hard as that senshi you ran into. Hit me like I just insulted your girlfriend and your mother, don’t go soft on me. I can’t help you if I don’t know how much help you need,” he said upfront, not wanting Virtus to feel shy or uncomfortable about the instructions.

Virtus was basically like a puppy. It would probably not be a bad idea to keep him on a leash most of the time, just to keep him from wandering off and getting kicked. Or following someone home.
Smiling innocently all the while.
How he had never been kidnapped as a child was anyone's guess.
"I'm the bad guy. Right," he nodded his head. That was something he had heard before. Senshi considered them bad, though they were doing what they thought was right. He was doing what he was taught was right, and what he deeply believed was right as a result of that. He wasn't brainwashed, as people accused. He was open minded enough to listen to what he was told, and he felt he drew his own conclusions.
He wanted to help, and now that he had been given this power he had a debt to repay. It was his honor and privilege to do that, even if it did make him the bad guy.
He did pale a little at his order, though.
"Hit you... uhm..." He considered it, then smiled and nodded his head. If that was what Remarque wanted! Clearly this was part of the help he had asked for, and of course he had to do as he was told. He made a fist, an awkward enough gesture for him, and looked at remarque. "Okay. Ready?" He smiled, then took a breath and swung for all he was worth.
Which, really, wasn't much. He was lucky enough to not miss, at least.

Remarque stared, as if waiting for some of shadowing sting or pain to set in. He looked at the male with an incredibly judgmental look, trying to figure out if that had been some sort of joke or not.
A few seconds ticked by, and he realized that perhaps Virtus had been giving it his all. He cleared his throat and shook his head, reaching a hand to rub at the back of his neck. It wasn’t that he’d been expecting some tremendous blow—he’d taken hits to the face by boxers more trained that he was, and roughhoused with people double his mass.
But that was kind of just pathetic.
“…All right,” he said, trying to keep optimistic. “Well, the good news is, there’s hope for you. The bad news is…you’re seriously going to have to work for it.” He couldn’t help but ask, “That was—seriously the hardest you could do? I told you not to go easy on me. You’re swinging like a girl there, Lesath’s hit me harder. –Didn’t,” he bit the inside of his cheek, “Didn’t anyone teach you how to throw a punch? Your dad or something?”

Virtus blinked at Remarque. Had that not been good? Oh well! He'd just try again harder if he could, though he really had been giving it everything he had. He just did not have very much.
That was the problem.
"Oh good!" He said, delighted by Remarque's assessment. His head was lingering on 'there is hope' more so than anything else. Hope was good! That meant he was worth investing in, and they could maybe do something good with their time here. Virtus was not going to let his fellow DMC senshi down, not for anything.
No, he was determined now, and hope just made him more so.
"I'm very good at working, I promise. I'll do it. But girl's can swing really hard, and I'm pretty sure I didn't swing as hard as that. I tried! But I just... well, dad never really wanted me to fight, and I never wanted to fight, so I guess we agreed not to bring it up!" he laughed, but grew serious.
He needed to learn.

For a long moment, Remarque just looked at Virtus, trying to decide the best approach to this situation. Virtus was willing to work, and as long as he was going to try, that was enough for Remarque. If you had a will to do something, in some way, shape or form, you could do it. “All right. Well, if you want to throw a good punch, the first thing to do is work on developing your upper body strength. Get some weights, do some pushups, spent fifteen minutes or so a day when you’ve got the time and try to work on that. The second thing to do is…learn how to punch.”
He wasn’t trying to insult the male—not now, at least—and mused, “We can work on structure, posture some. The basics.” Remarque took up a stance that seemed that he had often used in the ring. “Legs spread a little, keeps you grounded. Helps you direct where you want your fist to go. Keeps you steadied.” He threw a few demonstrational punches into the air. “You just have to figure out what works for you. Hell—you might even be more of a martial arts guy. Don’t be afraid to test the waters, find what works for you.”

At least there was one thing Remarque could never do with Virtus. There was no need to worry about upsetting him because he had no line. There was nothing to cross.
He had told himself that the young man helping him was doing so for his good. So anything he did had a free pass, it was excused before it was even done, because that was what was necessary for Virtus to get better. It was good for him and he'd grow for it, so it was fine.
He echoed the other's stance, bringing up his fists and trying to alter it to fit him. Nothing felt right, since he never fought, but he settled into something that could be comfortable it he worked at it. It was not the most conventional stance, but then, he wasn't the most conventional guy.
It would work out!
"I think this might work!" he announced eagerly, "what now? I want to learn how to throw a punch! Maybe if I see a few more proper ones?"

As Remarque observed Virtus, he was at least amused by the male’s enthusiasm. He doubted that there was much merit in ‘learn by example’, but he wasn’t about to go off and punch Virtus.
To be fair, it just wouldn’t be any fun.
Yes, throughout his high school years he had been particularly violent and picked on people who couldn’t really fend for themselves, and never had he had an ounce of regret. If it hadn’t been him, it would have just been someone else, anyway. He had bullied all sorts of people—girls, boys, jocks, nerds, freshman, seniors, class pets, other bullies. There were only select few groups he would avoid: children, mothers, and the elderly. He avoided them for similar reasons: there was no fun in it.
He couldn’t very well bully someone’s mother without imaging how furious he’d be if someone did the same to his mother. Children were obvious—you could jump out and yell ‘boo’ and they’d piss themselves. High end insults went right over their head, and he couldn’t degrade himself to fling around first grade insults so they’d understand what he was saying. The elderly, similarly to children, were oftentimes lacking in fun. Sometimes age left them distant, sometimes age left them hard of hearing, and sometimes age left them with a great sense of humor that prevented some teenaged punk from rattling them.
Virtus, despite being an adult, and a member of the Dark Mirror Senshi, and a warrior—in the loosest of terms, Remarque decided—had been lopped into the ‘children’s’ category.
“…Maybe you should just go watch Rocky or something if you want to see some punches,” he said, though given that they’d already come so far today, he wasn’t going to leave Virtus hanging. “—All right, just watch me. Four basic types of punches you want to throw.” He introduced each by title and then threw a slow-motion punch in the air accordingly to display what he was talking about. “Hook, uppercut, jab, and a right. All good for different situations. If you’re in a fight and need to defend yourself, guess it doesn’t really matter which one you throw—just turn your whole body into it, gives you a little extra power, especially if you aren’t too quick on your feet. –And even if you don’t land, keep punching. Keeps your opponent guessing. You don’t want to wear yourself out, so you don’t always want to throw all your power into one punch.”
Especially if you were Virtus; Remarque doubted the guy would get lucky enough to land a knock out blow in one punch. Lowering his arms to his side, Remarque gave the male a look over. “You wanna see them again or would me punching you help you remember them a little better?”

Not punching Virtus was probably for the best. He was not particularly good at taking hits, either, so socking him one would just floor him and the training would come to a very abrupt end, certainly.
He had been beaten up plenty of times, but it wasn't exactly something he had built up a resistance to.
Virtus took the advice as legitimate and nodded his head. He would rent Rocky the next chance he got, and see how they fought. For now, he made sure to take good mental notes, which he might write down later for studying, of each punch that Remarque showed him. he echoed the movements, though he was stiff and he tended to keep his arms in close.
"I think I can remember!" he said, after a moment of scanning back through his head to see if they were all still there. Everything seemed to be sinking in, and he flashed a bright smile.
"Thank you for all this! It's really helpful! You really do know what you're doing, and that's great. I'm lucky to have you as a teammate and as a friend!"
