Sailor Virtus had been having a good night so far. He had managed to find a couple of people to successfully borrow energy from, without them running away or someone coming in to stop him! That was a profound accomplishment, and he adored that.
He had never felt proud of himself before, not in this way. And he couldn't wait to show Navi, or even the Queen, his ambitions ran so high. He just wanted to share what he had done. He just wanted to see if others would feel as happy as he did.
Humming to himself, he decided to get some ice cream before the shop closed, and then walk himself home. He had powered down to buy it, but powered back up to finish his patrol while enjoying the sundae he had splurged on.
Maybe he shouldn't be rewarding himself for doing what he was supposed to do, but he didn't really think too hard about it. All he knew were the simple details of a job well done, successfully completed, and the happy feeling that filled him because of it.
After all, it meant that maybe he would be good at this after all.
He wouldn't be a complete failure, or a waste of time and effort. He wouldn't let anyone down, something he couldn't bear to do. He sat down near the park, not wanting his ice cream to melt.

There was an unfamiliar aura about the park. It seemed dark, but it also was not the aura of a Negaverse Agent. Not being the sort to remain idle, the tailless cat soon enough found herself trying to trail that aura, her paws eventually leading her to the park.
Of course, another sense of hers soon enough began going into overdrive, her nose twitching quite a bit.
There was something delicious nearby. Of course, she couldn't tell quite yet what it was (who in the world could smell ICE CREAM of all things), but it smelled good! Both the good things and the potentially bad thing were in the same direction, which meant there was a chance she could get something good out of this.
Soon enough she came across a blonde boy wearing a dark colored uniform with gold and silver markings on it. It wasn't quite like any uniforms she had seen before.
However, her green eyes eventually spotted his ice cream and she soon enough was done paying attention to the serious business. Rather casually, she was soon enough rubbing up against the boy's ankles, mewling out slightly in an adoring manner. She could be a sweetheart for now, and if anything bad came of it, she could get serious then.

Virtus was perfectly content, enjoying his ice cream like a kid half his age. He hummed to himself but was caught off guard as he felt something moving at his legs. He looked down, surprised, then a smile split his face from ear to ear.
"A kitty! Oh, how cute are you!"
He had met talking cats in space, and he was sure there was something familiar about this cat, but he didn't put it all together. No, all he saw was a cute cat with no tail and soft fur that demanded he pet it. So he did. Stooping, he ran his hand over her head and scratched at her ear lightly.
"Hello kitty! Did you want some of my ice cream?"
He smiled and looked at his sundae. He hadn't ordered any chocolate with it, so he wondered if it was okay to give to cats. He owned rabbits, and they were not particularly ice cream fans. Or most people food: they rarely bothered him for what he was eating so he didn't have to worry about giving them something they weren't supposed to have.
From the looks of it, this kitty was already well loved, and must have had her fair share of people food. He smiled and pet her happily, thinking his night probably couldn't get any better.

The fact that this boy had any sort of power signature at all was clue enough that she was allowed to speak. So rather bluntly, as he asked his question, ********* replied "Why yes, I would love some if you'd be willing to spare some! And thank you for the compliment!" She offered a rather large smile as she leaned her ears into the scratching fingers of the boy. She'd continue to fuss with his hand as long as he continued to pet. Hopefully her decision to speak up wouldn't come back to bite her on her tailless rump.
As she remained sitting there, the feline could not help but feel that twinge of stereotypical curiosity in the back of her mind.
As politely as she could manage, the tailless animal then asked conversationally "Do you mind if I ask what you are?" She didn't clarify, hoping that the boy would understand her vague question without further prompting.

Virtus looked surprised, then delighted, when ********* replied.
"Oh! You're one of the talking ones! I like those! Here, you can have some!" He would have shared even if she had mewed at him, of course, as he could not resist cute kitty face for the life of him. Who could? It was a very effective weapon.
And Virtus was very weak against cute things.
"What I am?" he echoed, tilting his head at her. He smiled though, having gotten the question before and remembering that not everyone knew about the court he belonged to. But he wasn't sure if they were supposed to know about it.
"My name is Sailor Virtus! I'm the Senshi of Kindness," he smiled, putting down the ice cream boat so she could eat from it. "I'm a member of the Dark Mirror Court."

"Dark Mirror Court... hmmm... Dark Mirror Court... I know I've heard that before somewhere..."
Had it not been for the placement of the treat, she might have continued to ponder over the subject aloud, but the moment the ice cream boat was at hr level, she scurried to the flavored dairy treat. Huddling her body low to the ground, she began to lap up what she was able to from the container. This boy had been quite generous about sharing, which given the sphere of power he had, it made quite a bit of sense. There was actually some ice cream left, not just a puddle of melted syrupy goo.
Dark Mirror... hmm... isn't that the group of senshi that are like Zirconia, but not like Zirconia? Didn't I encounter someone who went by the Dark Mirror... hmmm...
There had been that one time with Lenka where some boy had been harassing her. Didn't he say he was part of the Dark Mirror as well?
With all of this mental dialogue and deep thought, when she suddenly spouted out "AHA!" the boy who had been sharing with her might have gotten a bit startled by how sudden the proclamation was. With a smear of vanilla goo on her face (which she couldn't help but try to lick off of her maw), she looked to the boy again.
"...you are one of the corrupted parallels..." she said in a completely conversation and non-confrontational manner.

Virtus smiled as she ate the ice cream, glad she seemed to be enjoying it. He had had enough of it to have properly enjoyed it himself, he decided, so sharing was certainly no trouble for him. Anyway, wasn't that the point of ice cream?
It was a party food. It was supposed to be shared and to have fun with.
He jumped when she spoke, blinking at her and then laughing. He was surprised but not angry, and he offered her a tissue he had been carrying the ice cream on, in case he made a mess. She was a cat, though, and he offered to help her clean up a bit so she didn't get more sticky ice cream all over her fur.
She could handle it, he was sure, but he never saw the harm in offering aid.
"I... I guess so? I mean. I've never heard that before... I'm just part of the Dark Mirror Court. I'm a senshi! But if that has a different name and I don't know it, that doesn't make it wrong." He smiled brightly, nodding his head. He was technically speaking the truth, at least. She was being very nice with him, so he was more than willing to talk to her.

With the tissue held out in her direction, the manx rubbed her face against it to try to rub off the sticky mess on her maw. "Thank you, Virtus! That's quite helpful!"
She paused thoughtfully as the boy responded to her accusation, taking his words into consideration. In a sense, he pretty much confessed that he didn't even know what he was. Zirconia had explained it to ********* once upon a time in the Surrounding, the two of them in a form more humanoid than the one the gray animal could take at the moment. How Ares, a once proud Parallel senshi, had been swayed by Chaos and had decided that this dimension was now going to be hers. How she was going to rebuild a kingdom that didn't even exist in this plane.
And from what she was understanding, these Dark Mirror Senshi did not even understand what they truly were.
Keeping her tone calm and factual (rather than accusational), the guardian eventually replied "...no... Virtus... you are a senshi that serves Ares. I serve the senshi, but not the senshi that serve Ares or the senshi that serve the Negaverse..." It might have seemed inappropriate, but she tilted her head and smiled to the boy.
"There is a difference." Once more, she placed her mouth into the remaining ice cream pile. Though this boy seemed nice enough, one could never tell when buttons were pushed or not. If she had accidentally pressed one of those hot buttons, she needed to make sure she had enough ice cream in her tummy before fleeing.

Virtus felt a thrill when he heard her thank him. He loved being helpful! He didn't do it for the rewards of thank yous and attention, but he certainly liked them when they came. If he could have fluffed up his fur to be petted he would have, but as it was he just smiled brightly and reveled.
He looked at her, though, as she spoke and confusion settled on him. Ares was his Queen, and she had helped him and Navi when they were going to be killed by a monster. A youma. He had been just a human then, and a youma decided he would be a tasty snack. Everything else was a blur, until Ares and a cat, not like this one, arrived and everything changed.
She made him Virtus, and he had promised to help her.
At least Virtus had no hot buttons. He smiled and stroked the fur of her back, letting her eat the ice cream as he thought things over.
"I think I understand. You're a White Moon cat. But you're not as mean as the White Moon senshi are." He had had a bad experience with a particularly violent one, and because it fell in line with the warning he had received about them he had to assume that they were all like that.

Fortunately, ********* also didn't really have too many hot buttons. However, she could be vocal about things in a non-offending manner. In a manner that a preschool teacher might speak in, the feline did pause from her snack and made a comment.
"It seems unfair to judge a whole group based upon the experiences you might have had from some. Everybody is different, and I think should probably be judged upon their own merits."
She chuckled a bit before nudging with her nose the container where the melting ice cream remained. "If that was the case, then I wouldn't have had the chance to share this snack with you, Virtus." It was completely possible to like a person even if one had conflicting personal views. However, an individual had to be pretty open-minded.
And seeing as this Dark Mirror Senshi was just sharing ice cream with the manx, ********* could only hope he was equally as open-minded as she suspected.

"I thought that too, and I really want to keep thinking it. I know there are very good people out there and I want to be friends with them! But I have to do what I'm told to do, and I want to do that too. I owe my life to my Queen and my team."
He smiled fondly.
"But I think if I'm lucky, I'll find other people like you. Or. Cats. You know. And maybe we can figure out a better way than the one we have now. But we all have to keep doing what we need to do for now until we figure out something else, right?"
He laughed, thinking he was talking in circles. Sometimes it was very hard to be as nice as he was, but also know he was considered the bad guy in this war. But he found a way to balance things, in his odd way, and that was important to him.
He smiled at ********* and pet her lightly on the head, thinking he liked her very much and didn't want to make an enemy out of her. That was the thing. He knew there was danger out there, and he would get hurt if he didn't change how he approached Senshi, but he also couldn't help himself when he came across a nice person. Or cat, as it were here.
He just wanted to be nice.

The justifications the boy had seemed flawed to the manx, but it probably had everything to do with the fact she knew a little more about the senshi from the other side of the mirror. She would never claim to be an expert, but Zirconia most certainly had been quite convincing in her explanations.
Knowing that her views were perhaps skewed and not even proven facts, she bit her tongue upon her views of the "Queen" which the boy spoke so fondly of.
Having clearly finished up the ice cream, the feline licked off what she could from her maw before mentioning the only other thing that stood out to her. "It sounds more like you are follower then, yes Virtus? Do tell me... what is it that you do exactly?"

"I... I do what I'm told! I really like helping people." He had always been that way. A lot of people described him as being naive, and if he knew they meant it in a bad way he'd explain that it really wasn't any trouble for him. He took joy in helping people accomplish things, and loved when he was asked to do so.
He smiled and nodded his head, waving his hands as he talked.
"I guess you can say I'm a follower! I'd much rather do things for others than for myself. So I gather this energy we need, and I heal my friends when they need me."
He moved to pick up the garbage from the ice cream, not wanting to litter. That was rude, and it made the road look ugly. Sure, there were plenty of other pieces of litter around, but he didn't think saying 'well, everyone else is doing it' was enough of a reason to join in. Which was strange, considering he was very much a sheep in other parts of his life, as he had just explained.
Maybe he literally just had to be asked, and given a reason for why it would be helpful. He was too simple for his own good, on most days.

Listening to his explanations as to why he did what he did along with what he did gave the feline plenty of food for thought (Mmmm.... food!). It was truly a pity that Ares had managed to get to him first, for he would have made a truly good White Moon Senshi.
"Kindness truly suits you as an individual, which makes sense since it is what your power is based upon..." If she had a tail, she might have been lashing it about from side to side. However, she was greatly lacking in the tail department, so the potential body language was not observable by the boy. All he'd be able to see was an occasional flick of the ear.
No longer having any food to eat, she eventually found herself rubbing up against the boy's ankles. "I do have a word of advice for you...whether you like it or not." She had only known the boy for a short amount of time, but with how open he was about his motivation to do things, she could see this potentially coming back to bite him in the butt. "...be careful about your kindness... there are individuals out there who will take advantage of even an ounce of such a thing." In all honesty, she suspected such might be the case with Ares, but it wasn't something she'd declare outright.
Pausing by his ankles, she attempted to look up at his eyes, but instead was getting a good look at his shins due to the angle. "...I might be just a cat... but I have been around a while..."

Virtus smiled. It was like she had turned on the sun, as happy as she had made him. Generally, he took it in stride that most people did not get his sphere. They even didn't like it, because it was lame or useless or not fitting someone on the 'bad' side. But he didn't think any of that, though he certainly couldn't begrudge them for thinking it.
He was stooped to pet her, letting her rub his ankles and listening to her advice heartily. She was a very sweet kitty.
He listened and nodded his head. He might have frowned, but it didn't seem he knew how to. Or maybe he lacked the muscles for it. But she was right, in the back of his mind. He'd been told that before, many times, by people who loved him and didn't want to see him hurt. And he had been hurt before.
"I can tell that! You're very smart, and very kind. I really appreciate your talking to me, and offering me advice! I'll do my best, I really will." In everything he was going to do, from not being taken advantage of to his duties with his team.
