 She walked out of the twinkling cafe, feeling apologetic. A'riah had stayed past closing again, curled up in the corner with a book. The baristas never minded; she always bought a lot of coffee, but she still felt bad when she got in their way. -The sun's been down quite a while now..She thought I hope I don't run into trouble- It was well past time to be back in her cozy little studio apartment uptown...

 Ahhh, Nixie loved this time of night. Not so late it was unreal, but late enough that most places were closed and the streets -and ally ways- were dark and semi-abandoned. She also loved living in the streets, no bills to pay, no landlords to kiss butt, no annoying neighbors... And no brats pulling pranks on you every week or so. Nixie could easily remember when she lived with an old friend of hers, and she hated it. No, the free and easy life was the one for this ol' gal.
As the vixen neared the local cafe, paused mid-step. Huh? There was someone leaving... But it was too early for workers, too late for customers... Odd. What was even more odd was the bushel of flowers that seemed affixed to the dark Zune's hip. Now, Nixie wasn't the one to be all bubbly and introduce herself or even acknowledge that other Zunes existed half the time, but the flowers -and the Zune's late hour leave- caught her curiosity. Tilting her head, Nixie began to follow this Zune quietly, tail low, ears perked, eyes wide, almost as if she were stalking instead of merely curious.

A'riah ducked around a corner, trying to hide a little. Her small frame wasn't equipped for trouble, and she had a strong feeling something was going to happen tonight. Not that anything had ever happened before, but it was foolish to deny a feeling. Her quick head whipped around corners rapidly, sharp eyes spotting movement in shadows. As the shy fox curled around the next street, she craned her neck to peer into an alley across the way. There was something moving in there.

Nixie frowned as the fox darted to and fro. Why was she running? Nixie was no threat!
Keeping pace, not so easily, Nixie finally rounded a corner and found herself under a street lamp. She also found herself face to face with the fox she was following, who looked like she might jump out of her fur.
"Hi!" Nixie chirped, then jabbed a paw in the direction of the other's flowers. "Why the flowers?"

"Ah!"
A'riah jumped backwards just as she nearly ran into a slender black fox that landed in front of her from nowhere. Crouching on the ground, staring at the new fox, she relaxed. It didn't look like this female meant any harm. A'riah looked back at the alleyway she'd been inspecting a moment before; it seemed empty, now. She looked back at the young fox who was now staring at her expectantly.
"I... I'm sorry... Wha-what did you say?" She was still stuttering slightly from her scare.

"Flowers." Nixie chirped again, seeming to not even notice the other's startled actions. "Did you steal them?" The vixen tilted her head, curious, truly, not accusing or anything of the sort. Though, why someone would steal flowers when you could just pluck them from the ground was beyond her.
Not waiting for an answer, the dark girl trotted over to sniff the plant life. Oh, tulips! How pleasant~

Still partly crouched, A'riah skittered away from the curious fox a little bit. "Uh, uhm, my human put them on me. I like them." It was clear she didn't catch the unintentional accusation, still too caught up in what was happening.
-Riah! Calm down!- she told herself. -she's not going to hurt you, girl! just relax.-
A'riah straightened a little bit and looked the other fox up and down, appreciating the beauty of her dark patterning. "Well, I, I'm A'riah, by the way."

Nixie had reached out and batted the air at the tulips as the girl skittered, but didn't give chase. Instead, she just looked at her. "Human? Oh... I have one of those." As if they were property, an item of sorts. "But I never see her. Don't care to." Nixie smiled, tilting her head. "Scared? Should be. It's dangerous out here sometimes. I'm Nixie. Why were you at the cafe so late?" The vixen sat down, allowing her tail to sway back and forth as she waited for an answer.
((-facepalm- sorry, didn't know she was going to be so... blunt? think thats the word... XP))

"b-b-but, what's your name?" A'riah looked completely shocked that the young female hadn't answered.
((and no worries, I think Nix is perfect for Riah, with some time. We'll just see where it goes))

She frowned, tilted her head, and stared. Didn't she just say her name? "Nixie," The girl answered. "My name is Nixie. ... Why were you so late out of the cafe?" A curiosity had to be settled, or the vixen was going to explode in a puff of starry-patterend fur.

"Oh. I'm sorry, you already said that, didn't you? I'm so sorry, I'm just really flustered. I've never met someone like you!" The streetlight flickered out, making A'riah jump. The moon shone on Nixie's fur, just right, and made her gleam on the cloudless night. -she's really pretty! I wish I looked like that-

Nixie merely twitched when the light blinked out. Seeing the other jump, though, she laughed -something she didn't do often-. "Tis ok~" She waved a paw, then, "Ah, these lights are notorious for shorting out. No need to jump~" The vixen reached her waving paw out and gently touched A'riah's cheek. "Mmmm... You're eyes are the color of some of my spots." Nix had a fascination for blue things.

A'riah stiffened for a moment, then relaxed as the paw crossed her cheek. It felt nice. Suddenly, however, she felt really self-conscious, and drew back. "I was at the cafe late cause I was reading and I had some carrot cake and I just was curled up in the corner and forgot about the time and I had another cup of coffee and they told me they were closed so I left and I ran into you and I want to go home...." she blurted it all out so rapidly, then darted down the street, embarrassed.

As the other zune spilled out words, Nix's head slowly tilted over... then she jumped when A'riah suddenly spun out and fled. "Wha... HEY! Wait up!" She just found a girl who was actually interesting, she wasn't getting away!
Nixie raced down the street, calling after the flowered one. "I like carrot cake toooooo!!! Heehee!"

Finally safe at home, A'riah curled up on the couch. It was definitely time to go to bed, but with her mind racing, she wasn't going to be able to fall asleep. She reached for her bag, then paused, aghast. -I don't have my bag! I must have dropped it!- Realizing this led to one more conclusion: she had to see Nixie again. A smile slowly crossed A'riah's face as she fell asleep.
