The year is 2020. Mankind's progression in technological advances have all but slowed due to a recent biological threat. A faction within the United Kingdoms known as King's Ransom, have without warning released a biological weapon within a crowded epicenter of trade. The virus was dubbed the name X-13, by a famous scientist named Ryan Williams, who would later come up with an inoculation that would hinder the spread of the virus and it's effects, but only for a week tops until the virus mutated again. Another scientist, known as Dr. Octavious, worked closely with Dr. Williams on finding a true cure to X-13. He was a bright young man who held quite a bit of promise, but would become so caught up in his studies that everything else hardly mattered. The two worked constantly slaving over cadavers, taking samples, and applying serums to see what exactly would stop the virus. Soon all that truly mattered to Octavious though was who would gain the recognition of curing this deadly virus. Everything else just seemed to become pointless, and Octavious' thoughts became all the more twisted with the more pressure he received from the media. Who cared about results really...as long as he was recognized as the man who saved the world. Soon enough the two created a sample they thought would be the trick to curing the virus, but Octavious' new demeanor in life had him steal the sample before tests were ever conducted that very night.
On the following morning Dr. Williams woke up and cut on the television, only to find that Octavious had taken the sample, and had already signed off on it to begin mass production. The sample was to be named Cloud Nine, and would be within the first stages of use within mere hours. Williams immediately resigned from the position upon realization that there really was nothing he could do at that point, and gave all credit to Octavious. At first it was a dream come true...a miracle drug that would end the strife, but alas this was only the calm before the storm. The new vaccine called Cloud Nine had horrible side effects on the masses. Many people reported symptoms of blindness, extreme fatigue, headaches, and migraines...those were of the first symptoms. The worst symptom by far was the degradation of any and all cell structures. It started first with bone becoming brittle...then hemmorging , and eventually if one hadn't bled to death internally...one would drown on their own blood as it filled their lungs. The vaccine was given to over 80 percent of the worlds population...Dr. Octavious had just become a tyrant, and all thanks to his brand new Cloud Nine vaccine.
Octavious was awestruck as society crumbled at his very feet. All those people had died by his hands. There he was within the study of his lavish home, gun placed to his temple, chamber full, cocked and ready to end his miserable existence, when he received a knock on his door. He opened the door and there stood a man in a suit. He didn't give a name, but simply gave a card, and offered him a higher paying position, and a place where he could disappear from the world. Octavious vanished that night, a single bag missing from his closet when the feds came looking for him. He was simply gone...A few days later Dr. Williams also went missing, as well as several lead scientist around the world. This was the beginning of a wretched thing.
To whomever it may concern, It has been nearly over a year here at the Vermilion Compound, and I fear the worst is to happen. Shortly after our lead scientist Ryan Williams went missing we were all forced to come here to this facility, whisked away in the middle of the night from our homes, our families. I write this in the event that someone finds my memoirs, and stops this blasphemy before it becomes too late, and I too become their latest test subject here. Man was not meant to play God...or perhaps we simply just aren't ready. It seems they have us working on mixing new strains of DNA and splicing them with test subjects, so that they may have their perfect soldiers.
We don't know who they are and what exactly they hope to accomplish, but the rest of the scientist, including myself, are too fearful to ask being that whomever ends up asking too many questions mysteriously ends up being ill the next day, and seem to never return...I'm afraid our usefulness to them is running thin, and the time I have here is coming to an end. The test subjects are forced to be here just as we are, and I am haunted by they're faces. Yesterday we got another test subject in...I recognized him immediately when I saw his face...it was my old friend Ryan. It was a cruel turn of events as they forced me to try my trial serum on him, but the strain of it on his body took it's toll...he flat lined within minutes. They disposed of the body within the cold storage, but something didn't quite piece together as to why exactly they didn't incinerate his body. I know once I perfect the serum they'll do away with me just as they had me do away with Ryan, and replace me with someone else more... manageable.
Little do they know is I have already completed the serum, but will try my best to hide it somewhere...a boy...a new test subject...he will be the key...find him. The bastards brought in Ryan's brain dead son so that we can work on him. They wanted me to inject my serum into his cerebral cortex...so I did, and the results were remarkable. His brain functionality began to climb back to normal within mere days, in a week he was deemed a failure, and incinerated alive. Please help us...they've made us do horrible, horrible things. In the event of my death...the serum is hidden away somewhere safe, and if you should find yourself here at Vermilion...I'm so very sorry. There is no hope here for anyone here, and our only escape...is death. I pray you have more luck than I did.
Sincerely, Damien Archibald
