It had been a few days now since Moeras had found her way in to the small bit of land inhabited by the male lion Durin and his group of lionesses. Within the branches of the tree where she first met the male lion has been where most of the leopardess’s time has been spent. Meals caught for her and barely a need to leave her tree. Such a life as she has always dreamed of finally coming true. Sure she still had her part of the deal, but it was an easier task than chasing down a prey beast for a meal every day. With that thought Moeras peered out from her tree perch, wondering when the lionesses would be bringing back the next meal.

The afternoon's catch lay limp in her maw, with only the pale lioness' strong legs to drag it back to the little pride's acacia tree. Beside her Damu walked a few paces away, running her mouth on her newest complaint for living with Durin. Asali could only roll eyes, if her mouth hadn't been filled with delicious (and heavy!) zebra she would given Damu a good talking to and probably a whack from her paw. After all, Asali was the hunter of the group, Damu just watched out for danger most of the time. With the acacia tree in view, Asali could not stop her eyes from wandering to the tree branches. No doubt the afternoon's chatter was up there right now.

"I can't believe he'd do that!" Damu began again, flexing her claws into the dirt as she padded alongside her sister. "Another lioness, fine, but a leopard! They're so... ew. Just terrible." She had been talking for a long time now, venting out her frustrations as she still was not use to living with the large male, and had many derogatory things to say about him. Asali couldn't have picked a worse protector! Nonetheless, Damu had stayed, and so she was stuck with the decision. When they neared the acacia tree the smaller of the females, Damu, called out loudly- and somewhat sarcastically, "Dinner is served!" The least the leopard could do was climb out of that darned tree.

As soon as Asali deemed them close enough, she let their meal drop to the ground with a thud. She was panting from the effort of catching it and dragging it here all by herself, but that did not stop her from shouldering roughly past her sister as Damu made her rude comment. "Moeras dear, there's zebra if you want it," she spoke, in her usual friendly manner. She couldn't make Damu act nicely to their guest, but the least Asali could do was attempt to make up for it. Besides, the leopard was doing a fairly decent job of keeping Durin's attention, and Asali appreciated that for the time being. Eventually, she wouldn't mind if that attention came to herself, but for now she was happy just to get to know the male a little more.

As she stared out across the Savannah she noticed the pair returning, and not empty pawed either. The lighter of the lioness pair was dragging back a zebra, and a small growl of anticipation came from the leopardess’s stomach. Both her and her stomach were certainly enjoying the steady meals. Now she didn’t have to worry that her own folly might leave her without for a day. She was not a terrible hunter, but she was also not the best, and the fact she simply abhorred exerting all the energy needed to actually catch a mean never quite helped her out when hunting.

Within ‘her’ tree she waited as they neared, before seemingly close though, though she would have preferred a bit closer, the lighter lioness let the zebra’s body go. “I was just starting to get hungry to.” She spoke, though not really at anyone in particular. As she did she stood, stretched, and slowly descended the tree to make her way towards the zebra. “One does get so hungry napping all day.” She continued, glancing over at Damu with a smirk before turning her gaze first to the felled prey then to Asali. “Quite a fine catch you brought back.”

The nerve of this leopard! Smirking at her like that! Damu nearly loosed a growl at her, but quelled it quickly in case Durin was in the area. "One also gets rather fat when napping all day," the dark pelted lioness rumbled, not yet budging from the zebra's side. Had she the mind to do so, she would have ripped into it right then and there, had she not caught Asali looking directly at her.

"Keep it up sister and I'll sit on you again. There'll be nothing left but the backside of the zebra when I let you up," and though the lioness' tone was joking, her glare in Damu's direction certainly got the message across. With that settled, Asali turned a much more pleasant look to Moeras, offering a quick purr and a affectionate rub from her forehead at the compliment. "Its nice to be appreciated, just make sure to eat your fill before Durin has a go at it," the lioness advised with a laugh. Life was good, and feeding one more belly only meant that Asali had more of reason than ever to enjoy her favorite pastime: the thrill of the hunt. Her yellow eyes gazed curiously at the leopard, and their height difference always seemed to catch the huntress off guard. Leopards were naturally shorter than lions, but Asali was a bit taller and firmer than your average lioness. Leopards were almost cute in comparison. "So if you don't mind me asking, how have things been going for you and Durin?" And a better question, why him? Curiosity burned at the forefront of her mind.

Damu laid her ears against her skull, grumpy faced and glaring back at her sister. When the conversation continued without her she sat back on her haunches, staring at the zebra. She really could just rip into it... if she wanted to. The thought of Asali sitting on her in front of Moeras was more than embarrassing enough to keep her at bay.

The darker lionesses words, though surely meant as an insult, did not phase the leopardess much. That was something she would have to think on later, as Moeras did not quite like the thought of being too heavy to climb a tree, or perhaps break branches she tried to lay on. It was a matter that she did not wish to dwell on for the moment though. “Perhaps, but I do so enjoy my beauty rest.” She paused, smiling softly and speaking as kindly as she could to the dark lioness. “Perhaps you should try to get some sometime.” Moeras knew she was pushing it, but oh how she enjoyed it.

The mental image of Damu being sat on crossed Moeras’ mind and she chuckled at the thought, though it did not linger long as the conversation went on. “Yes, there wouldn’t be much left after he had his go at the poor best. Bones and hooves surely, and that is not a very appetizing meal.” She spoke, eyes turning back to look down at the zebra. The tip of her green tail twitched as she contemplated where to start. So much good meat, and such a fine beast it was. Asali’s question however pulled her attention away, and she looked at the lighter of the two lionesses silently for a few moments as she mulled over the question, and possible answers. “I suppose things are going well.” She finally replied. There did not seem much else to say, or perhaps she just did not know what else to add.

Damu could have snarled at that, whether from her already short temper or how her sister was embarrassing her in front of the leopard, she wasn't sure. Or perhaps, it was just their situation in general. Damu wasn't exactly sure of what to make with their comfortable life, now that they were freed from cruel masters in a time before meeting Durrin. How was she suppose to move on from that? For now, it helped to just be angry, whether at herself, Asali, Durrin, or Moeras. And right now, Moeras was an easy target. "I get plenty of that as it is. But, how someone can spend their whole day lazing around is beyond me. Seems boring", she cut herself off curtly, ears pinned against the back of skull as she slunk to the ground to rest on her belly, feeling her foul mood and attempting to curb it. Asali would be angry at her if she did something 'regrettable', so Damu instead started on their meal. She didn't like that they had to share it, but she would make certain to get her fill before it was gone.

Asali sighed heavily, not sure what to do with her sister as of late. It would need to be dealt with one way or another, as she was sure Damu was only going to get worse if she allowed the behavior to continue. Ugh, listen to her, she was sounding like... like a mother! Asali choked back the thought and instead turned a pleasant face back to Moeras. "No, that wouldn't be a very good meal for any of us. So as soon as we've all had our share I'll go fetch Durrin to finish it off. But not a moment sooner", she chuckled, knowing that monster could certainly eat! It was probably his specialty, and that got a genuine laugh from the lioness. Her curiosity grew thicker with the leopardess' vague answer, but Asali was quick to let it go. Not wanting to sully the mood more than Damu already had. "That's good to hear, as long as he's treating you well enough." To be honest, she wasn't certain how most lions treated other species, but she had heard tale of many encounters that had ended badly. It was probably a good thing Moeras had stumbled on them and not some other small group. With the exception of Damu, Asali liked to think they were being down right pleasant to their guest.
