Woo campaign rp! This is an open rp for anyone who wants to talk to Wykla. It's set after the day's speeches in the Lower Caverns.
Wykla settled with her bowl of soup and bread at an empty table from where she could watch a vast part of the Lower Caverns. Today had been a total mess. Mess? No, it had been a disaster! She hunched her shoulders as she thought about her lame speech. There was no way she'd ever be voted now. She was hardly older than most of the candidates! They would never listen to her. Wykla tried to take a couple bites, but the soup tasted bland and her bread like sand.
Do not fret Mine. Kameth sensed his rider's doubts. You were yourself and that is all that matters. We are young yet, but we will grow with time.
The girl glanced around the cavern as was her custom. It was natural as breathing to watch people. How did they interact? What did they do when they thought no one was looking right at them? That doesn't do much for us now, she thought back. Her speech was over and there was nothing she could do about it now.

The slight clatter of plate and silverware gave C'rci's presence away as she set herself down next to Wykla with a smile the girl for once devoid of her steely blue shadow. Bolth having grown a bit too big to trail his rider between the narrow rows of tables. Flashing the fellow blue rider a calm warm smile she gave a nod in greeting before taking a bite out of the meatroll she'd collected for herself. Then C'rci reaching out she grabbed a second one and stuffed it in her pocket to reward Fasha with later for staying with Bolth in her absence.
How are you doing Bolth? She asked quickly checking up on her blue who was currently stretched out taking up her entire bed in their Weyr.
The sun is slanting nicely Mine. I and Fasha am warm. Oh? Kameth's rider is there with you? The blue inquired sleepily his interest starting to be piqued, but too comfortable currently to be roused or worried as he sifted through C'rci's mind assured that she was alright.
Grinning to herself C'rci got a brief glimpse of crimson hide draped over Bolth's eyes and could reason that the little firelizard had taken to napping right on the steely blue's face. Yes I am here with Wykla. She seems worried.
Hmm reassure her Mine. You're good at that. Bolth replied and C'rci could feel her lifemate drifting back off to sleep.
I'll try Bolth. Sleep well dear heart. She replied before pausing and half turning to Wykla. "So. . .I thought you did very well with your speech."

Wykla started a bit as she suddenly had company at her table. There was no warning that anyone was coming until C'rci was already seated. She was a bit surprised the young rider chose to join her. Wykla nodded slowly back. Whatever she had expected C'rci to say wasn't what she actually did.
The young teen regarded her companion for a moment before replying. "Well for a kid perhaps. A little kid." She sounded a touch disgusted. How could she have flubbed so badly? Wykla had a hunch that it had been all those faces and eyes staring at her. Usually she did the staring. "I think an older rider will be picked." She commented conversationally.

"Well you could have clammed up completely and not spoken at all." C'rci replied, blunt as usual though at least a touch more refined with her dragon's mediating influence.
Mine, that's a little harsh. Bolth added sleepily giving his rider a mental nudge.
"But the point is you didn't." C'rci continued feeling her blue's satisfaction at her words. See? I'm being careful. She added only receiving a mental chuckle from her lifemate. In this area she was his apprentice. "The point is you stayed and stood your ground." She replied reaching a hand out to give the other woman a friendly pat on the shoulder. Even if she was perhaps not as elegant with her words as Bolth, C'rci had a knack for occasionally stumbling upon the right ones.
"If they don't want you then that's the Weyr's loss. Big sharding things tend to come it little packages after all. I mean, could you believe a big dragon like your Kameth was once a tiny little egg? You'll grow. We all grow." She paused Bolth chiming in.
Wise ones don't judge by size, but by potential. The steely blue rumbled making C'rci's chest swell with pride at the love in her dragon's tone. After all to others C'rci appeared to be the tiny red headed girl she was physically. Only Bolth really saw the giant of a woman that lay beneath her skin.
"Bolth says they shouldn't judge you by as you are now, but what you can become. He's right you know. He's uncanny like that." C'rci added with a grin.

Wykla had to admit to herself that C'rci was right. She hadn't clammed up. Maybe if she had she wouldn't feel like such a fool currently. It helped a bit that another rider said she did good; even if said rider had been for less time than she had. At least she had one supporter!
"There wasn't much ground to stand. I'm not even sure why I tried." She gave a shrug. That was the part that was really confusing her. Why would she want to spend the rest of her days shepherding a bunch of weyrbrats and holder's kids? Wykla nodded. It really was up to the Weyr now.
She coughed, "I've live my whole life at the Weyr and seen lots of dragons hatch and grow. 'Course I knew they'd start out small and get bigger." Wykla slightly shook her head with an arched brow. "I know we'll grow C'rci, but its now that they're looking at. I'm probably too young for it anyhow. Thanks for trying to help."

C'rci gripped her fork so hard you could practically hear the crack of her knuckles as she stabbed it down into one of the meatrolls and turned gold glittering eyes shining with fire in her gaze upon her fellow rider. Reaching out she made to grip Wykla's shoulder her grasp hard as steel as she stared the other blue rider down.
"Now you listen to me Wykla of Blue Kameth! If the world didn't dare to try, IF dragons and riders didn't dare to try why there'd be no sharding Pern here at all! The only failed attempt is the one not made." C'rci growled out her voice overflowing with emotion, with passion, confidence, and most of all hope making her level tone seem to reverberate louder then any scream could.
The amount of her passion roused Bolth who lifted his head eyes whirling with pride. Fasha the little crimson awoke with a squalk of surprise at the echo of her owners strong emotions the little fiery flit chittering at Bolth as if to urge the blue to explain all the hubub.
"Age doesn't matter. You can learn competence. You can't teach caring, compassion, or drive." C'rci cautioned letting the woman go and turning back to her food moodily.
Mine be at ease not everyone feels the need to chase down and beat their goals into submission. Bolth murmured gently in his riders mind hoping to ease His's taxed emotions.
I just. . .She can do so much! She and Kameth can fly, can fight, can sear! While we're stuck ground bound and can only aid the injured as best we can! C'rci replied frustration raging through her small form even as her face turned stony as she glared down at her food as if the meatroll's had stabbed her and now sat taunting the young rider to her face.
We will not be bound to the land forever Mine. I will take you into the skies and if you wish to fight the thread I will flame for you though I fear the silver menace like nothing else. I cannot let it have you Mine. Bolth rumbled back the blue's brilliant eyes whirling orange and yellow in distress as he sought to sooth his lifemate.
Ooooh Bolth. C'rci sighed her heavy heart lightening and feeling guilty for causing her dragon such distress. You will shine brighter then the sun. I know it.
Be at ease Mine. Bolth crooned lovingly as C'rci took a deep breath before turning back to Wykla.
"You are more capable in your skills now to handle the job then your meager confidence in yourself belays. Don't sell yourself short Wykla. They haven't ruled you out just yet." C'rci added her voice calmer, her emotions reigned in tight with restraint though the fire still simmered beneath her golden gaze. After all if Wykla didn't have the confidence then C'rci would happily lend the woman her own and if not her then Bolth would be there on the sidelines with support to spare.

Wykla jerked her shoulder from the other rider's grasp and gave her a glare. The sense of touching familiarity the other was giving off was starting to annoy her. Her personal space was in danger. "Well I made it, so back off!" Wykla snapped.
"You can spout that all you like, but its competence they want now." The young teen was about ready now to throw her hands up at the whole thing. This was her choice, not C'rci. If she was so passionate about it, she could apply.
Sensing his rider's irration, Kameth's head came up. His eyes whirling in oranges and reds. Please ask Yours to back off. He said stiffly to Bolth.
Her back straightened, both with irriation and pride. Wykla tightly controlled her voice to reply, "I was not questioning my confidence C'rci. Merely the way the older riders would take my speech."

As much as Z'fer was enjoying the company at his own table, it was hard not to hear C'rci's vehement tones or Wykla's reply. He glanced towards the disruption as did a handful of others dining near. Instantly Z'fer recognized the mane of red hair with her back to him. It was the spitfire young blue rider who he'd met before. She seemed to be having an animated conversation with the young girl who'd spoken at the campaining meeting.
The weyr seemed to have a surplus of female blue riders...more's the pity.
Z'fer, sensing a opportunity for mischief, disengaged himself from his current crowd and made his way towards the girls table. He sat down on Wykla's other side, facing away from the table and resting his elbows on the top. He turned his head sideways to take in the two young girls.
~ Incoming...~ Calanoth noted with an amused voice to both Kameth and Bolth.
"You both have points. Now here's what I think." He didn't need to introduce himself, not that he would have anyways. People should already know who he was. But as it was he'd met Wykla before as well. He'd flown with her during that sudden Thread Fall. It was kind of interesting to think he'd met both girls on the same day.
"You had some valid points in your speech, once you got past the stammering. Your youth works for you and against you. Most riders wouldn't think of one as young as you taking the Candidate Master's position, early Impression or not. But this is for his assistant. As you said, you're young and can learn. That's going for you. You're fresh from the ground up and by the time he's ready to retire, you'll have turns worth of experience behind you." Z'fer looked away from the girls and up to the ceiling in a 'thinking' pose. He already knew what he was going to say.
"Then again the point of choosing an assistant is so he has someone he can rely on to help him. If he's constantly watching out for you to make mistakes, whether you do or not, he's not getting the help he needs. Plus older candidates probably won't be inclined to listen or respect you because of your age. Sure you can snitch on them but what else?"
"Now for your information, I've got marks down on the outcome of this one..." He grinned sideways at them. He wasn't so much there to offer support or criticism, just entertaining himself. He had thought it over though and placed a good bet on the girl. The odds were against her and the payout would be handsome if she prevailed.

It surprised her when her corner was invaded yet again. What was it all of a sudden? Wykla wondered. Perhaps because she'd put herself in people's awareness with her speech. Wykla regarded Z'fer warily, the way one does to a small tunnel snake. It wasn't big enough to really hurt, but it could still bite. She couldn't recall ever haven actually met him before, except for fighting Thread with him, and wasn't sure what exactly he was there for.
Kameth gave a long sigh, and hoped Calanoth's rider displayed more sense then Bolth's. At least the brown had given some warning.
She wanted to say she didn't stammer, but she had stuttered a bit. Wykla listened as Z'fer spoke, watching him as she did. It was nice that he didn't side right away with one or the other. He brought up valid points. What would she do with candidates who wouldn't listen? Wykla did not want the candidate master to be babysitting her. She would have to learn to deal with problems on her own.
"Other than the obvious, that I'm a rider and they aren't should help." She said. "I would have the right to hold them back from a Hatching if they didn't follow orders, correct?" Wykla shook her head. How did you make a candidate do chores they didn't want to do? A rueful smile crossed her lips as she thought of her own history. It was something so ingrained that you listened to a dragonrider.
News of the wager didn't surprise her. People were known to make wagers on anything for entertainment. Wykla did wonder briefly on which way he bet. Was he for or against her? She had a small hunch maybe for her, since he hadn't come over and tried to shoot her down immediately with how she'd be such a horrible second.

C'rci wanted to hiss, to snarl, her old habits as a wherhandler rising to the surface with her temper. What she wouldn't give to have claws and lash out in that moment. Wykla didn't seem to have the slightest sharding idea how incredibly lucky she was to even get the chance to apply for the position. The chance to get out there and do some real good while the most C'rci could do was desperately tend to the injured and wait.
Mine Kameth asks you back off please? Oh and Calanoth~ Bolth didn't get the chance to finish though as the bronzerider in question approached surprising his own rider in her anger.
And oh by the stars why did HE have to come over here now!? C'rci shot Z'fer a rather dark and startled look at his sudden approach. Her gaze though quickly shifted back to Wykla her eyes narrowing as she tried to force herself to calm. Wykla, Wykla who got the chance to fight, to fly, to help, to make all the sharding good she wanted instead of her. Yet here she was trying to push the girl on and cheer for her despite all that. Ha! C'rci supposed it served her right to get bit for trying to be gentle.
"Well then if you're confidence isn't in question then why don't you get out there and show them you have what it takes to do the job. Campaign some." C'rci growled a low thrumming dangerous sound as she stood harshly from her seat. If Wykla didn't want her confidence, her belief, her hope then fine she'd go lend her aid elsewhere where they wouldn't be spat back into her face. Besides she'd cut off her own arm before she sat here and argued in front of Z'fer of all people. Turning the flame haired girl moved to stalk off.
