Jordan had thought that things weren't going to be awkward, that he and Jerry had understood each other fairly well the night before the Arctic mission; but he'd felt - strange, afterwards, uncomfortable. Like he had no place invading Jerry's room in the infirmary, after the collapse about which the Life hunters on duty would give him no details. He'd stayed away, guiltily, but checked daily with the infirmary until Jerry had been released.

He'd decided, after some deliberation, that he shouldn't just go and knock. Maybe a text instead.

Text to Jerry: Hey, heard you got out. Doing okay?

Jerry had been content to recoup alone in his room. Candace's visit to the infirmary had only made matters worse, and he was all out of things to drink.

Probably wouldn't have been a good idea anyway.

At first, he ignored the text, letting his phone vibrate away.

It could be something important.

It could be Candace again.

He didn't want to talk to her. He didn't want to see her.

It could be someone else.

Finally, he scrambled around to find where he had left his glasses and after some effort, read the text. It was... Jordan? He shifted, feeling a bit awkward himself. Finally, he texted back:

Text to Jordan: Feeling better. Not dead. Always a plus. Where are you? Have I missed anything?

It had taken a while for Jerry to respond, but that didn't necessarily mean anything. He could have been busy, or in the shower, or - well, any number of things. It wasn't anything to fret over. He really didn't have any reason to fret. Nevertheless, Jordan felt better - somewhat - when his phone buzzed in response.

Text to Jerry: Not dead is good. Just in my room. Nothing happening, just checking in. Hope I'm not bothering you.

Prolixity
Text to Jordan: Not at all! I shouldn't be sleeping this much. Haven't eaten in days. Want to go to cafeteria?

Jerry sent the text and frowned down at the phone. He wasn't really in any shape to be going out and about but... he couldn't just stay a shut-in forever. There were other duties to tend to. Missions to run, drills to hammer through, duties to tend. And when one couldn't remember the last time one had eaten... it really was important to do something about it. Things would be fine. he would be fine. Just keep trucking.

Haven't eaten in days? Jordan frowned at his phone, concerned. Did he need to be worrying? Jerry had an unsettling tendency to forget that he needed to take care of himself; then again, he'd just spent a stretch of time in the infirmary, and it could just that he'd been on an IV and hadn't needed to eat. That was probably it. Still, it bothered Jordan.

He wasn't responsible for taking care of Jerry, he reminded himself, and he should really regard that as a good thing.

Text to Jerry: Sounds good, I could use some coffee anyway. See you in a few.

You tie yourself in knots over this male, Ferros observed.

I know, Jordan answered tiredly. I'll get over it sometime. He pulled his coat on and headed for the cafeteria.

Jerry didn't bother putting on his coat, simply slinging it over an arm. He hadn't bothered with his vest either, simply pulling on a shirt and pants and shoes to shuffle his way towards nourishment.

It would be good to see Jordan. Maybe help him out of his funk. He made his way much slower to the cafeteria, and didn't look very bright (nor well groomed, if groomed at all) at the sight of his friend. He did force a smile, though. "Hi." Was what Jordan was given.

Jordan had retrieved a cup of coffee already by the time Jerry came shambling into the cafeteria, and the sight of his friend immediately made his worries worse. Jerry looked exhausted and depressed, deep circles under his eyes, uncharacteristically untidy in appearance, and he hadn't even shaved, apparently. Jordan's hand tightened on the coffee cup, but he tried to keep his expression neutral. "Hey," he answered. "Good to see you."

Should he offer to help? No, maybe not; though Jerry seemed to have temporarily abandoned caring about appearances, he wasn't incapable, didn't need to be treated like an invalid. "Um - I'll go grab a table," Jordan offered.

"I'll... I'll be right there," He gave a smile before making his way to the coffee machine himself, eagerly pouring himself a cup and grabbed a handful of sugar and creamers.

You should eat, Roar murmured in the back of his head. Last thing I need is you dying of stupidity.

"Shut up," Jerry mumbled under his breath as he made his way to where Jordan had made himself comfortable. He wasn't really hungry. "So... um. The er. Mission went well?"

Jordan claimed a table and watched Jerry get a cup of coffee - and only a cup of coffee. Not healthy, he said to Ferros, then, glancing down at the cup in his hand, I know, I know, but I ate breakfast.

I didn't say anything, Ferros said.

He gave Jerry a half-smile as the other man sat down, and answered, "Well enough." He hesitated, then added, "But you knew that, didn't you?"

Jerry's eyes darted to the side as he dumped the sugar into his coffee, "K-knew what?"

"I didn't know golems could be made out of snow," Jordan answered, watching Jerry. It was still a guess, but he was almost certain now.
PostPosted: Thu Mar 15, 2012 9:06 am

If there was anything Jerry wasn't, it was a lier. He swallowed, eyes darting to the side a moment before he fumbled clumsily with the packet of creamer, "M-made of snow? Really?" He made the mistake of eye contact with Jordan and let out a sigh. "W-was... was it that obvious?" His voice dropped down low, in case anyone overheard, "People are annoyed by me enough, I don't... don't particularly want that er... mission getting around." He cleared his throat, "Miss Aria thought it would uh... help me blow off some steam in um. A m-more productive manner. Ahaha..."

Jordan shook his head. "It wasn't obvious. I heard a few intermediates comment on the snow, but it was just suspicions. I - saw who the yetis did and didn't go for, and you'd given me a couple of hints." He left out what he'd heard H say. It was a delicate enough subject already. "I think I'm the only one who guessed it was you, and I stayed quiet." He, too, kept his voice down.

Jerry sighed, running his hand through his hair, "It... was certainly an interesting experience. I had my orders and um. Yeah, ahaha... I... I didn't hurt you did I? I remember... er... something about a bear before it all became a little fuzzy..."

"No, I noticed you avoided me," Jordan said; then his expression turned a little sheepish. "Er - finishing the first one off must've hurt. Sorry about that." He smirked faintly, added, "You managed to harf bear all over Rep. It was pretty funny."

He leaned on the table, regarding Jerry with some concern. "Why'd it land you in the infirmary for so long, though? Usually dying in a golem just kicks you out. Hurts, but doesn't actually hurt your body."
