Irri sighed as she looked around at the grassy field that stretched in front of her. She had been traveling for a while, trying to track down Tarma so she could convince her to come home where she belonged. She had lost track of days long ago, and honestly had no idea where she was or whose territory she might be in.
Dust clung to her coat and tail, which was also becoming somewhat tangled, and sweat beaded down her face. As a cool breeze wafted by, it carried the sweet scent of water with it. Perking up, she looked around in the direction it came from, and thought she saw a water source... a pond or stream maybe?
She shook off some of the dust and began to trot towards it, hoping it would be big enough to not only slake her thirst, but clean up a bit.

Alkion was on his first real patrol. It was so refreshing and exciting out here with just him and the wind. It was slightly lonely but none more so they being around all the happy couples in the herd... there were so many now. And a fresh crop of foals under the tree. His great uncles doing. He had stopped by a big stream it was deep enough to stand in and he did so. It was very refreshing and he dipped his muzzle in for a drink. It was there chest deep in the water that he saw the mare coming toward him. She was every bit as beautiful as his cousin Kai's new girl friend. Oddly enough the two had similar swirling patterns but they didn't seem to be at all related. She looked like the swirls on a pond. He breathed in...cept his snout was still in the water. He snorted and sputtered and tried to regain his composure before she got to close to him.

As she grew closer to the water, the scent of it grew so strong, it was almost intoxicating. How she had longed for a drink! She finally saw that it was a stream large enough to bathe in, and her heart leapt. So focused on the sweet water and the bath she would soon be getting, she failed to notice the other azrien standing in the middle of the stream at first. Until he started making sputtering noises.
Startled, she threw her head up and looked around in alarm. Upon seeing the male in the stream, she was first relieved to see it wasn't anything dangerous(she hoped), then embarassed. Was he taking a bath too? How rude of her to interrupt! She blushed at the thought and ducked her head down shyly, peeking through her bangs at him. "Er.. Pardon me sir.. I didn't realize anyone else was here.. I didn't mean to interrupt whatever you were doing." She pawed at the muddy bank, and said, "I'll just be on my way then.. so so sorry again." She figured she would just follow the stream until she was far enough away then take care of her own needs.

Alkion's eyes widened. "Oh don't go! You look like you have come very far and judging from your coat you must be very thirsty. Don't mind me, I'll even get outif you like so you don't feel uncomfortable." He hoped desperately she wouldn't leave. "The water is calm here and deep I'm sure you will like it."
The water swirled invitingly around his chest in a cool comforting way and he backed up a bit toward the opposite bank. The last thing he wanted to do was accidentally threaten the poor mare by mistake.

She hesitated, then looked up and smiled shyly at him. "Thank you, that's kind of you to offer.." She watched him back away in the water, and now that she actually had a chance to really look at him, saw how handsome he was. Belatedly she realized the state she was in and how horrible she must look with her dusty coat and tangled tail!
She took a few steps forward to the water's edge and bent down to take a drink, enjoying the cool, refreshing water. She raised her head and smiled at the stallion. "Thank you again for sharing.. I'm sorry for invading your space.. I wasn't really paying attention. I've been traveling a long way.. actually I have no idea where I am anymore." she said with a chuckle.

"Its not a problem." He smiled. "You are nearly on the boarder of my herd's lands. As long as you have a neutral or good alignment you are welcome to pass through anytime. We don't mind at all as long as we know our members and foals are safe. Would you like a safe place to spend the night? I'm sure there is room around the tree. There is also plenty of grazing available."
He backed up a little further in case she wanted to bath. The creek bed was a tad slippery over where he was so he stepped very carefully it wouldn't do to face plant into the water with her watching...that sounded like something great uncle Tide would do.

She gazed at him as he spoke and took another drink while she thought. A safe place to spend the night and get some strength back would be wonderful.. She raised her head and stepped into the water before she spoke.
"Well, I assure you I am not evil or aligned with those that would wreak havoc in the world..." she said with a shudder. She waded further into the cool water delighted to have the dust and mud sluiced away by the soft current. "She smiled at him again. "It would be nice to have someplace safe to sleep... I've been watching my own back for far too long. It's even nicer to be able to get clean!" she said with a soft giggle.

"I'll bet," he said. "The only thing better than a good mud bath is the water one directly after."
"I'm sure you will be quite welcome at home. Stay as long as you need or want, as my guest."
Her coat looked even more beautiful with every passing moment. Revealing to him that this sweet mare was every bit as nice on the inside as she was on the outside.

She smiled shyly at him, then ducked under the water quickly to hide the flush that had crept to her cheeks. At least she had the excuse of rinsing her mane while hiding her blush!
She tossed her head up out of the cool water, shaking her short mane free of droplets, and began wading over to the shore where he was standing. She hadn't really taken the time to get a good look at him, being too focused on the impromtu bath, and trying not to be embarassed by her dirtiness. As she grew nearer, she noticed just how handsome this stallion was. How had she not seen it before! And what was she going to do? She had never met another male except her brother.. she had no idea what to say to him without sounding stupid.. and she definitely didn't want to scare him off...
She shook off most of the water as she got to shore, trying not to splash him with the flying drops, then glanced over at him again. "I'm Irri by the way.. it is quite nice to meet you.", she said with a soft smile.

"I am Alkion, son of Enthallion son of Dark Ion, leader of the Equi'Amiticia herd of his Majesty's Lands." He drew in a breath. That was a long introduction, but now she knew he was related to the great Dark Ion who was on the front lines of the good side, that had to count for something right? He bowed before her. "At your service Ms. Irri. You don't have a boyfriend do you? Some one as gentle kind and beautiful as you probably has a million suitors.

She blinked slowly as she took in his lengthy introduction. He must be someone important! She had no idea who Enthallion or Dark Ion were.. but they way he spoke their names made her think that they were widely known. Oh how she wished she hadn't grown up in such lonely wilderness!
She blushed and dipped her head to him as he bowed, then dropped her jaw at his next statement. He thought she was beautiful? This handsome, interesting stallion thought this? Completely taken aback, she stammered, "Wha- Oh.. Um.. Th- thank you..." She looked down at the waters sloshing around her hooves and blushed even harder. "Um.. n-no.. I don't have a boyfriend.." She looked up at him shyly through her lashes. "I actually haven't met that many other Azrien yet.. "

"You didn't have a family to pull on your ears, splatter mud in your face or push you in the lake? You must have parents. Have they kept you hidden away? Surely they would have had to chase besotted males off." Alkion couldn't understand this, how could anyone not notice how simply beautiful and sweet she was?! She was like on of those rare flowers that bloomed by the waterfall only once a year in a cascade of beauty that sometimes captivated his whole herd into staring at them nearly until they wilted before their eyes. In fact the blooming of the waterfall flowers had nearly become something of a holiday for them. That was coming up soon. "Perhaps you would be interested in seeing the waterfall lilies bloom? They are usually only found around here and they bloom only once a year."

She gazed at him with slight confusion in her eyes. Was he really interested in her? She didn't think she was anything special...
She smiled at him and giggled softly. "No.. nothing like that! I chose to leave my mothers and siblings while I was young, and found a new family with a human and my adopted sister, Tarma. I felt they needed me more than my blood family.. and there wasn't really a place for me with them..." she finished a little sadly.
She was brought back sharply to reality and remembered that she was supposed to be tracking down Tarma. But she was really enjoying her time with Alkion... he was just so open and friendly! Not to mention adorable....
She looked up at him and her face lit up with a smile. How fortunate she was to have met him! She nodded slowly and said, "I haven't heard of these waterfall lillies... but they do sound lovely.. When do they bloom? I'd love to see them sometime.." She trailed off sounding wistful. Oh how she wanted to spend more time with him!

She smiled. SHE HAD SMILED. And he almost lost his footing and fell in the water. She was stunning. AND SHE HAD SMILED FOR HIM. OMG. " I uh, they uh they bloom in two weeks, and they stay open for the whole day however it is most magical to watch them as they open as they release a wave of mettallic gold pollen."
"Tarma, I don't think a mare of that name has passed through here but I could check for you, our scouts are reliable."

She still couldn't get over the fact that not only was he still here talking with her... but he wanted to spend even more time with her in the near future! How did she manage to get so lucky?
"Two weeks?..." she said, trying to get her thoughts together. Two weeks of time spent with Alkion would be absolutely wonderful... she would love nothing more than to get to know him better. But then again, that would be two weeks of time lost in trying to find Tarma.. which she was beginning to suspect was a lost cause anyways. Not that she'd give up.. she was family after all.
She took a step closer to him and looked up into those gorgeous grey eyes. "They really sound like something special.. and I'd really love to see their magic..." She pawed at the muddy ground lightly. "It's just that... I really need to find Tarma before she gets into trouble.. if it's not too late already..." she said in a rush. "But maybe asking your scouts is a good idea? As much as I'd like to find her.. I.. I don't want to go quite just yet.." she said shyly and looked back down at the ground.
