His paw was healing quite nicely, Yayuka thought. Well, nice didn’t mean it was pretty, of course. It probably looked rather nasty, and didn’t smell too good, either. But as far as progress went, it seemed to be doing pretty good. It didn’t smell bad like an infection, and at least the medic didn’t appear to believe he was in danger at the moment.

Still, he wasn’t quite good enough to join the other firekin, and shouldn’t really be walking, putting it in the sand. Aithne had pointed this out to him. He’d known, of course, and was till a little irritated upon remembering the encounter. He was determined not to get chided like a cub again.

So he sat in the shade of a long jagged rock, dutifully not working too hard, so he could one day work very hard for his pride.

Rellik walked a little easier today after getting some much needed rest in days prior. She walked through the lands, watched, hunted when she could find any sort of prey, which was scarce, and tried to find any spot of water for those that needed it. The threat of the nergui beyond the borders was in the forefront of her mind, but the well being of those here, and protection, is what her priority was. She may be a huntress, but she knew how to fight, her past taught her so.

She watched hte foreign figure shaded for a moment before proceeding with caution.

She tried to be as quiet as possible.

However, having a bright red, striped pelt didn't help her blend into anything.

Especially when taking into account the fact that Yayuka was doing nothing but sit and look out at his surroundings, it really was inevitable that he would spot Rellik, despite her caution. Such a caution was probably one he would never understand, since they were members of the same pride, and he was injured, but he wouldn't question it.

Instead, he watched the female as she got closer, idly curling his tail and plopping it down upon his mangled paw. She was on his left side, and probably wouldn't immediately notice Yayuka was short an ear, but that big paw was a little harder to hide.

As she approached, and was within a few lengths, she saw his eyes were upon her. She sighed, shook her body of sand and walked upwards to him, most of his body still in shade of the stone. She quirked a brow at him, watching closely, and saw his face. The markings were similar, almost, in design to some upon her own pelt, but had a glow, as if alive, as if from the sun itself.

"Who are you?" she asked simply, voice curious, and not offensive. Her silver eyes intent, she struggled at how to process this unknown lion. He did not run, or flee, or call for others. So he was not nergui.

She had to get out more and meet everyone.

"What're you doing out here?"

Though he wasn't in his typical good mood, hadn't been ever since regaining his mind after the ambush, Yayuka was feeling much nicer than he had felt on the day he met Aithne. And this lioness seemed kinder than the Kidondo and No's daughter. Somehow this wasn't very interesting to him. Aithne had been... interesting.

But that didn't mean Yayuka wasn't up for a chat, and he didn't scowl or make a face at her approach, or her words. He looked perhaps curious, if only because he was receiving attention. "I'm Yayuka." He didn't need to tell her his life story, though. He'd add in the bit about being a recently joined rogue later, if she asked.

"...I was with the firekin group that got ambushed by the nergui. So I'm sticking close to the medical wards, until I heal." He quirked a brow, wondering if she had somehow not heard much about the whole ambush. Admittedly, his recovery was a bit slower than some of the others (aside from Nur'yu, who didn't recover). He had a feeling he was getting on Ea's nerves. In his defense, the nergui had done quite the number on his paw.

"I'm Rellik," she wanted to ask if his name meant anything, it sounded strange, not of the pride, but then again, neither was she, neither was her own name. She stayed a little from him to keep his comfort, and peered at the markings on his face again. Intricate, bold, but simple. They almost appeared as if scratched in by the sun.

As he spoke, saying he was wounded, her silver eyes shifted to his body, looking him over, it was hard to tell in the shade, especially the way he was sitting. "You seem all right," she leaned a little close, perhaps too close for his liking, and had a want to poke at his shoulder, see where he was hurt.

But she wondered.

"You saw them...well, more than that, obviously," Rellik said shaking her head. "No one's said what they might look like, and I've not seen your face before, so I apologize for any apprehension."

He nodded. Rellik, then. "Well met." He mumbled, as a formality. Yayuka couldn't help but lean back at the scrutiny, though the lioness had been kind enough to keep a more decent distance. It just felt weird to be stared at, that's all.

Er, scratch that. She was leaning over. He didn't object to her claim that he was alright, even though he was short and ear, and up a mangled paw. He was just too proud to risk whining and pointing out his injuries, even though he had been told he was not fine. "Yeah, I'm alright." Yayuka shrugged, but looked down at his paw nonetheless. He hoped so.

"I didn't just see them." He frowned. And the nergui looked like lions, but he wasn't one to childishly point it out. "I probably fought more than I saw. I just remembered this one lioness..." He mused, but that was cut off by another thought. "Er, yes. I was a rogue. I haven't been here more than a few months."

"You must fight well, to have fought and returned," she wondered how many he had fought, "I mean, not to doubt your abilities, but it seems like, or at least I picture these nergui as traveling in groups...or packs, I could be wrong." Her ears perked as she listened to him say something about one lioness in particular. "What did she look like? Anything particular give her away?"

She wanted to keep a sharp eye.

As he spoke about being a rogue, she nodded at him, "I was as well, just don't seem to catch a glance at most newcomers though, my fault it seems." She blinked, watching him idly. She wasn't sure if he was just reserved or..hiding something.

He shrugged. It wasn't modesty, but Yayuka wasn't convinced of how well he fought. Had he fought better, his paw wouldn't be in such a deplorable condition, an Nur'yu would be alive. "It was an ambush, there were several. We thought we had killed one, but..." The body had been gone. "She was unusual, golden. But not like some firekin."

She was a bit hard to forget, having stood out quite a bit among the others. They had appeared dark, brownish... mud or dirt covered, maybe. Admittedly, things were a little fuzzy now. He was jut sure about the lioness.

So she was a rogue, as well. "It's a big pride. I guess you can't expect to know anyone." He offered.

She listened intently, keeping quiet to absorb information, so she was golden. And a thought came to her mind, "she didn't look like any...of those that are on the slates, right? Have you been there?" Rellik only asked as she knew of an older lioness who has a female cub whose pelt was too golden for their lands...and had to leave.

Surely...no, it couldn't be.

But how could Rellik know?

"I'll keep an eye regardless, with such a big pride it is hard to know everyone, but you try," she said with a smile and a flick of her ears forward.

He furrowed his brows in a light frown. "On the slates...? No, she didn't." He didn't know who Rellik could be talking about, but Yayuka was naturally curious. Was it possible this lioness knew the attacker? No, she must be mistaken. The huria had unusual colors, perhaps she thought of one of those. But there was no reason to doubt the huria, after all, they were well raised, they shouldn't have a reason to join the Nergui and attack their pride.

Unless, perhaps, Rellik was remembering someone from her past as a rogue. Perhaps not impossible. The idea prompted Yayuka to think about whether or not he may have known a lion who had become Nergui.

"Knowing everyone would certainly be... useful." He nodded. That way there would be no mistaking friend for foe. Especially now that the firekin accepted rogues such as himself, pelt color simply wasn't a good enough indication anymore.

She wondered how much this male knew of the pride as a whole, being here for a while now, but not seen the slates. Rellik herself had traveled once or twice to peer upon them, but that was all. She made no great impression on them, no tales with her in the midst, her image, as well as her sons, and those faces she knew, Iroh for one. She wondered how he was, she had not seen him in a long time.

"Hard though," she said with a shrug of her shoulders.

She peered about, quickly, with a glance of her eyes and looked to Yayuka again, "I hope all is well with you soon, so that you might see them," perhaps by that time, his image would be there too.

Yes, definitely hard. He perked his... ear slightly, idly watching the lioness as she looked about. It did seem like the conversation had run its course, unless Rellik had any more questions to ask him. "Yes, I will visit them once I am healed."

Yayuka planned to do a lot of things once he was well. Like that race with Aithne. Get back to some sparring, become a better fighter. Explore the lands more in depth, since he hadn't much of a chance before the ambush. And, apparently, get ready for a war.

"Then heal quickly," Rellik said with an offered smile. He seemed distant, hard to read for one, and Rellik felt anxious here, perhaps she had overstayed her welcome. "And you'll be able to see and know more," she said with a nod. She watched him carefully nad moved herself to walk on her way, but hesitated, looking at his face, his eyes. He may be wounded, but he was still firekin. The nergui could not take that from him.

"When your healed, if you ever want to spar," she said, a smirk forming on her maw, "come find me, yea?" and she was on her way.

However, only time would tell if they would meet soon after healing.

He planned to, and didn't feel the need to reaffirm this verbally. He just tilted and lowered his head in a half nod. See the pride, learn, that was all Yayuka wanted. He didn't want to be a cripple, limping around for the rest of his life in the sands. Perhaps, in the end, it was good that he now lives in the desert. Softer beneath his paw.

At her suggestion, Yayuka smiled. "Shall do, Rellik." And he flexed the claws on his good paw into the sand as he watched her go. In some ways, it appeared he made a friend.
