Jungle Outpost

What's a mysterious island without a jungle? This one is fairly thick with vegetation, unfriendly creatures, and fog. This outpost is one of the more dangerous ones, as creatures tend to run to ground here. Halloween creatures. The outpost itself is a sturdy, walled, high hide up in the trees, a rope ladder hangs down for those who need to investigate.

Clerise had her coat stripped off and over the back of her ******** the jungle, ******** the heat, ******** everything about this damned duty.

She wished she'd traded for minipets. Creepy tentacles or not, it was better than the fog and the beasty she'd ran from earlier after it beat her half to death.

This time she was prepared: a sketchbook she'd bribed an intermediate hunter for, and a book or two. The redhead propped her combat boots up on the rickety table, reading, peering outside at the lively jungle every few minutes.

Man, her partner was late. Or she was early. Her phone was dead, so she couldn't check.

Rep tended for the most part to like duties. It was nice to sit around on your arse when you could pretend that it was actually working, sitting in his dorm was almost intolerable of lately, especially knowing some of the things he currently did. He just didn't want to think, didn't want to dwell for any amount of time at all on his own on the dismal thoughts that drew his attention like gravity.

And at least on duty there was usually some other poor sap he could focus his attentions on instead, he wasn't able to introvert himself into oblivion when there was other people to keep up his manly in front of.

Today he was a little late, arriving at the clammy jungle, a small bag in tow. Sweets as usual, two bars of his precious stash of chocolate to tide him over with sugar should the company be intolerable. He tried not to be reminded of that horrible underground /tomb/ as he climbed up the rope ladder, checking out who he'd be spending the day with and sighing.

"Oh ******** hell." He rolled his eyes. "Hello Coco." He knew her name but couldn't pass up on the circus thing, wandering over to sit down. "Guess I'm stuck with you." he smirked. He could probably have done worse.

Clerise, honestly, felt the same way. Ever since Sandy...it felt like she had to prove she was worth dying for, or something cheesy or equally dumb as that.

She eyed Rep, rolling her eyes right back at the other trainee. "******** you too, Willy," Clerise offered with a middle finger, snorting. "What, you planning a sleepover?" she asked, gesturing at the bag. "Want me to do your hair? I'm sure I could french braid it all pretty if you let me."

Rep rolled his eyes, not rising to the nickname the way he was normally inclined to. "No actually, its got chocolate bars in. A guy can bring a snack with him right? And here I was going to offer the other person one of them, guess that's out." He smirked teasingly. "And naah. Even ignoring the fact that I'm not some raging homo who needs his hair done, you wouldn't /want/ to touch my hair lately. No ******** reasonable shower access, remember?" As if to illustrate he held a strand of hair out, looking mildly irritated at how utterly frizzy it currently was.

"Awwwww, you wound me!" Clerise whined, covering her heart with her hands, leaning half out of her chair, before jolting up in her seat, making a face. "Euuughh. Gross." She ran her fingers through her own hair-- god, it still felt like chocolate was in it. "Yeah I'm...not jealous of the situation."

Clerise remembered vaguely from twitter that it had been his fault and Jerry's. Didn't bother HER, really, so whatevs. "Man the humidity is being gross to your hair-- hey..."

She pointed at the chocolate. "Won't they melt in the heat? Unless you like sloppy, drippy chocolate everywhere?"

Rep shrugged. "Probably. I was going to eat it right away so no biggie for me." He took one out and tossed it on the table. "There if you want it. Its a Milky Bar. If you don't, it'll melt, and I'll still eat it later anyway." He shrugged. "I'm totally capable of licking it off my fingers, won't kill me."

He opened his own one and helped himself to it lazily, looking out at the jungle.

"This ******** duty reminds me of that mission."

PostPosted: Wed Mar 14, 2012 6:28 pm

A squeal was emitted as she grabbed for the bar, opening it and taking a bite.

"Man. Chocolate that isn't trying to eat ME. Awesome." She stopped in midmotion as Rep brought up the...

The mission.

"Yeah," was her only reply, oddly somber. "Sometimes I wonder if I really belong here, you know what I mean?"

Kinda weird, how subdued the guy was being, but she wasn't about to say something and let the magic ends. She'd seen bad movies on television, that's how this s**t worked. <******** that <******** cave."

Rep nodded distantly. "Yeah I know what you mean. Trust me, I reaaaally ******** know what you mean." He smirked fatalistically. "Though now we are here, we are stuck for better or worse. Probably worse."

He frowned again though fairly quickly. "Yeah, it was pretty ******** dismal. But they didn't even tell us the ******** /half/ of it. You know how Barney and Sandy died right? Well people went through their stuff. Apparently there was a ******** we're not being told about this whole thing. "

He couldn't help but bring it up, it was one of those things he just HAD to talk about to someone. Anyone, wether or not that person was someone he normally used any chance he had to pick a fight with.

Clerise raised her brow, curious as to the story behind Rep's statement. "I mean, it's not like I've got much left for me off of this island, but sheeeittt."

She blinked, turning in her seat to face Rep entirely, her full and undivided attention given to him. ""Big surprise that we're not getting the whole picture, to be expected--militaries and red tape go together like PB and J. But..." She toyed with her lip ring, flexing her hands a bit. She had LIKED Sandy. Girl was half off her rocker, but had been a sweet thing. Had died for her. "Dish it."

Rep looked off into the middle distance as he wracked his brain. He didn't have to try too hard though, the things he'd read were pretty much seared into his thoughts and reinfoced by the way he'd been thinking about them over and over and over. "And yeah, I know there's a shitton of red tape, hell you are life, you probably know that more than I do. But this was..pretty ******** serious. Like. They found a memory stick thing inside a flashlight. And like.. a note. I was passing the library when they were trying to decode it." he waved a hand.

"They figured it out right? And it like was a site with a password and s**t. But it was what was on it that was the huge ******** deal. It was reports. Mission reports to be exact. Mission reports from some pretty ******** important people. Aria and H that I recognised. A mission on new years in 1999. ******** HUGE. They sent out two ******** hundred hunters. Two came back." Saying it aloud made it sound so much worse to him, as if he was distantly listening to his own voice. "It was to do with the horsemen, the mists lost a huge ******** chunk just scouting. Diseases and s**t. The rest died in Times Square, along with like...four ******** division leaders, ehh. death, moon, sun and life I think? The worst thing for me anyway was the fact the "casualties were as expected". They knew they were going to lose all these people and they did it anyway."

He rubbed his temples. "I don't even ******** think we HAVE two hundred fully trained hunters on the island right now or even a ******** fraction of that. And yet the horsemen seem to be still around?"

He couldn't even /pretend/ to sound cocky about the whole thing, it was obvious it had rattled him.

"And they sent us into that lair knowing all that too."

PostPosted: Wed Mar 14, 2012 7:54 pm

"Ehh. Just ******** an army officer who talked a lot, I don't think that really counts." She shrugged, and the expression her face continued to dim as he talked.

"What? 1999?" That was...

That was a long time ago, and that was a LOT of hunters to lose. "So they ******** sent us into the belly of the beast? Into the cave of what killed like two hundred people? All the ******** scrubs included?" Clerise growled, low in her throat, like an upset animal.

And laughed. "Casualties. Casualties were to be expected. You know, some other trainee, Dakota, told me that Caelius thought we were all ******** expendable."

She was up on her feet, now, pacing like a caged thing, brain on fire as she pulled the pieces together. "I guess that much is clear now. I don't want to ******** die. I don't want to be disposable."

If the likes of Sandy and Barney could be-- what would set her apart?

Rep nodded "Seems like it. Sent us right into their home, even if they weren't home at the time that s**t's just callous. And I can believe that, that ******** Cael p***k didn't even feel like ******** waiting around for us long enough to give instructions or anything. Just danced off ahead. I even /saw/ him in one of the rooms and he didn't wait up for even a second." He snorted irritably, eating the rest of his chocolate, scowling the whole time.

"And I don't want to either. Its why I've been training my ******** a** off. Its why I've been toeing the ******** line as much as I can. I'm just really ******** gutted. Clarice takes me off to warn me that I'm running a dangerous line, I think okay I can improve this, find out we are basically being kept alive probably just long enough to be sacrificed."

He clenched his hand into a fist. "No ******** wonder they call us lambs."

PostPosted: Thu Mar 15, 2012 10:46 pm

"Well," Clerise says, with a crossing of her arms, lips pulled downwards. "That's a bunch of s**t." The good doctor was way too terrifying to ask, considering what had happened after Allan had ranted the guy's ear off...maybe Clarice would know?

But then. She was, if anything, the modicum of professional when she had to be. If the information was classified, she wouldn't very well spill. Still, Clerise ached to ask her.

"Is that why you're not being a complete c**t?" the acrobat asks, not mincing any words, blinking owlishly. "Well, I, for one, don't plan to be a lamb led to the slaughter."

Not that her plans really mattered. She sat back down, toying with Balthazar on his chain. God, why wasn't she better at this thinking thing. "Do you have any more details? Do you have the like, link on your phone or something?"

Rep smirked. "Hah. Yeah. That's why. I got told if I ******** up? I die in the middle of the night. So I have to be behaved on missions and s**t. And keep my trap shut. Doesn't mean my opinions have /changed/" He stressed this, he still thought women were lesser, he just wasn't allowed to /say/ it any more. Not that it was a major priority in the face of what they were discussing. Women would always be inferior, he might not always be alive to talk about it.

"I just know what I read. I didn't take any notes or s**t, don't know who can check these phones and I defo wasn't about to get caught with mission reports by the H man on here. Those are way ******** classified out of my lead. There were other people there though. Didn't recognise all the faces though, so don't know names. But if you asked around you might be able to get hold of the mem stick. It didn't have much. Just that report from Aria about some mists dying horribly in a lair, and the other ******** horrible one on the big failed mission."

He shrugged.

"Keep your ear to the ground I guess and you'll find out the exact details. I gave it a good read though, hard to forget that s**t."
