It had been several weeks since Poe and Lapin had emerged from their baskets to become the newest members of the herd. The traits on Poe had been strange but Synestra loved both of her daughters equally. Funny how these two were quite like her first pair, Poe being shy much like Oloneric was and Lapin being very outgoing much like Syrrin was. It was no wonder that Poe had a strong bond with Olo than Lapin did. Now that they were a bit older Synestra was able to have a bit more freedom. She didn't travel as much now as she used to, for a number of reasons, but she still got the itch to wander now and then.
Oloneric was currently watching the girls, as he had come home to visit for a few days, which left Synestra with some free time. Knowing they would be safe with their older brother Synestra took to wandering the herds territory, small as it was it still needed to be patrolled now and then. Crossing one of the meadows Synestra was heading to check the eastern most border, having recently taken on a new love of her role and duties in the herd. Hopefully all would be quiet so she could get in a lot of time with the girls later, but she always hoped it wasn't so quiet the duties would be painfully boring.

Jarita had absolutely no idea what was wrong with her - she loved spending time with the herd and she and Eversong had been having a great time..so why oh why did she feel the need to slip away and weep every now and again? It seemed like the smallest little thing was enough to set her off lately..I mean really was a bruised apple worth sobbing over? No...no it wasn't and some part of Jarita knew this but here she was weeping and sobbing about it anyways!
It was frustrating really, this sudden inability to control her emotions, lately it seemed she was either snapping at Eversong for no reason or crying for a stupid reason...Eversong was trying to be understanding she knew, he thought it was stress and it might very well be..though she hadn't felt particularly stressed lately. Sure they were still trying to start a family but that was old news now and she had almost gotten used to the fact that she might not ever actually have one.
No she didn't think it was stress - but whatever it was she hoped it went away soon, hiding in the bushes to cry wasn't very lady like and sniffing slightly she tried to compose herself before returning to Eversong.

The further she made it into this quick border patrol the more Synestra realized it would be one of those boring ones. No one seemed ot be out and about past the border, which meant no one to stop and talk with. Of course this also meant it should be over quickly enough and then she could spent some time with Olo and the girls. This thought was interrupted by spotted a large black mass near some trees and bushes. Pausing Synestra took a good look and quickly realized it was Jarita. What was the mare doing out here? Well, perhaps this patrol wouldn't be as boring as she had thought. Jarita and Eversong were practically herd members though they left often to go on travels and visit their own family.
Altering her course Synestra headed towards the mare. It was strange to see her without Eversong at her side, the pair was usually inseperable, though lately Synestra noticed they spent quite a bit of time away from each other. This wasn't exactly an alarm raising thing, sometimes couples needed to do different things, but Syn decided to check on things anyways. "Jarita." She said as she got closer to the larger mare. "I wasn't expecting to run into you out here."

Hearing the voice of Syn heading in her direction Jarita's eyes widened slightly and she rubbed her head quickly on her forelegs to try and get rid of any sign that she had been upset, of course this proved to be rather difficult because the more she tried to hide her feelings the worse she felt about them and...she quickly wound up biting back a sob..again.
"N-nothing" She assured the other mare, turning about to give her a forced warm look "J-just out for some fresh air" She lied, blinking her eyes quickly and attempting to keep the tone of her voice from wobbling the way it tended to do when one was upset about something. Really this was all getting a bit bothersome.

Jarita may have been able to fool others in the herd but Synestra knew almost instantly that something was amiss. Now more than ever Synestra was curious and perhaps a bit worried over why Jarita was upset and why the mare had been spending so much time away from Eversong. Best to take some time out of her day and see what was going on, perhaps she could help in some way.
"What's wrong Jarita? You see a bit out of sorts." Synestra figured if Jarita would talk about whatever was upsetting her it would likely be with her since out of all the herd members they knew each other the best. They were friends after all, practically family after they had spent so much time here and saved Olo when he was younger. "Let me help you in whatever it is." As heir to the herd it was Syn's duties to make sure everyone in the herd was safe and happy and clearly Jarita was lacking on happiness right now.

If Jarita wasn't feeling so blasted weepy right now she might have laughed at the other mare's comments - of course Syn wouldn't be fooled by her lame lie and attempt to hide. But that wasn't the funny part.
No the funny part was that she wanted to help and while that thought was appreciated Jarita wasn't even sure what to tell her, how can you help someone with a problem that dosen't even really exist? There was nothing wrong - she and Eversong had not had a fight, she wasn't unhappy in her life..not really and yet..she was bawling at the drop of a hat like some lost foal. It was absurd.
Even the thought about how absurd it was that she was carrying on like that was enough to make the mare loose what little composure she had left and start openly sobbing again. She managed to get out something of an answer in between the sobs "I..I don't know, I just....keep...crying...for ...no reason" She went on a slightly frustrated tone entering her voice "My apple...was bruised..and I just...started bawling!...it's so stupid! ..and I ..don't know Whhhhy" She finished with a bit of a wail at the end. This was just getting really out of hand!

Hearing Jarita talk, it was hard to not smile, the mare was usually so well composed yet here she was practically crying like a hurt foal. Luckily Synestra was able to keep the smile at bay. The last thing Jarita needed at this moment was to think someone was laughing at her crying. Of course it also didn't take long for Synestra to put the puzzle pieces together. The emotions taking their toll, well she had experienced that before, twice as a matter of fact. But obviously Jarita was still early on enough that she hadn't put two and two together. This would be exciting news as she knew the larger pair had been trying to start a family.
"It will be okay." She said stepping forward and giving the mare a comforting nuzzle on the shoulder. Poor girl, some got affected more than others and it looked like Jarita got hit hard. "I can assure you everything will be alright. Things like this happen, but it will get better as time goes on. Pregnancy has a strange way of showing itself in the early stages. One minute your crying, then you are on cloud nine then you snap at whoever is close to you and there seems to be no rhyme or reason behind the changes."

Jarita managed to put a lid on her emotions as Syn offered the comforting nuzzle, turning her full fledged sobs into a few miserable sniffs here and there as she listened to her friend - it would be okay? How in the world was it going to be okay if she had to go through who knows how long of this terrible emotional upheaval? How was she ever going to go traveling with Eversong again if she started bawling at every little thing?
She was so wrapped up in trying to figure all that out that she nearly missed the rest of Syn's words and when they did sink in she paused, holding her breath as the meaning of her friends words sunk in. "P..pregnant?, This happen's when your...pregnant?" Jarita really had no idea..of course Syn wouldn't lie to her about such things but she had never been around another who was in early pregnancy..she'd always missed that part and show up more towards the end, or after the foals were already here.

Syn couldn't help but chuckle now. As the realization began to sink into Jarita everything seemed to brighten up in the mare, though she still seemed a bit confused. "Yes...these things are quite common when your pregnant." Syn took a step back and glanced over Jarita. The mare didn't seem to be showing yet, so it was certainly still quite early, but far enough along to start showing signs. "Congratulations my friend, you are now an expecting mother. Still early I would say, but you would be amazed how fast that time goes. Before you know it you'll have baskets to fawn over and foals to worry about." It would be exciting, the pair had been trying for a while and Synestra was excited that they finally achieved their goal of the family.
"We should give you some herbs to help with any of the side effects. They will keep your strength up. I know of these herbs quite well." Having been pregnant twice now Synestra knew which herbs to take at what stages. "Oh and the most important thing of all, no more flying. It might not be so bad right now but the further you progress the worse it will be on you. Best to stick to the ground til the foals arrive." Pausing for a moment Synestra let a smile dance across her lips. "You'll also want to break the news to Eversong soon, as I'm sure he's still in the dark about all this." Best do it soon before the stallion starts to truly worry about what is going on with his mate and insist on them traveling somewhere else.

Jarita was still processing the fact that Syn said she was pregnant and the mare was off talking about herbs and not flying and how far along she was likely to be - it was a good deal to take in all at once but at least it was good news and it didn't make her feel like she wanted to start crying again.
Still a bit distracted she nodded her head slightly "Yes of course..herbs and no flying and telling...oh my gosh..I have to go and tell Eversong! He likely thinks I've been an absolute brat lately!" Jarita suddenly spouted off, spreading her wings as though to leap into the air and go to find him..only to sudden;y pull them back again "Right..no flying" She stated with a chagrined look at Syn "I'll..go and find him the regular way" She assured the other mare before hurrying off..it wasn't until she was a good bit away that she realized that she hadn't thanked nor said good-bye to Syn...but surely the mare would understand and she'd apologize to her later.

Syneastra watched with an amused grin as Jarita stumbled over a few things. It would take some getting used to with the new do's and don'ts regarding pregnancy but certainly the happiness of the event would counteract these things. "I will bring you the herbs later." She called out as the larger mare took off in search of her mate. The news would spread quickly in the herd today and Synestra thought it might be nice to have a small celebration for them tomorrow since the occasion was so exciting and a long way coming as well. It would take a small amount of organizing but Syn was confident she could work something out.
For the moment however she needed to finish her patrol, then gather and deliver the herbs before settling in for some family time. With a final glance towards the retreating mare Syn returned to her duties, a smile on her lips, perhaps today's duties weren't as boring or uneventful as she had first thought they would be.
