Gwendolyn Caspian had decided that today would not be the day she'd escape St. Mag's, though the reasoning behind it had nothing to do with her coming to terms with being forced to attend this establishment. Though, should the impulse come during lunch period, she'd be more then inclined to indulge on that whim. No, her decision to stay in class today had more to do with her still lingering symptoms and her slowly healing ankle than resignation, and besides, she had missed too much school already. Maddy wouldn't forgive her if she missed anymore of it, especially now that her fever -finally- seemed to be going away. That made dealing with overbearing nuns and the other crazies at St. Mag's only slightly more bearable than usual.

But not by much.

Besides, she needed something to do to get her mind off of things, and what better way to do that then bashing your head in trying to figure out a stupid math problem? Ever since becoming a Senshi, she had grown to appreciate some of the more normal aspects of life, though she couldn't lie. She liked being a Senshi. Someone who was strong, capable, though she still had no idea what her goal was or her main purpose, besides that she was in the White Moon Court, and her leader was missing.

But surprisingly enough, these thoughts hardly bothered her today, and she was surprised with how quick classes had let out for lunch, as she found herself walking down the hallways in uncharacteristic silence. No, she was never the chatterbox, and she didn't have a lot of friends to talk to (at least, not ones that weren't a fuzzy little domesticated rat hidden away in her booksack), but it was a strange occurrence for Gwendolyn to be walking around, as silent as a lamb and her mind elsewhere.

That's when it hit her, as she walked down the steps of St. Mag's and looked around her before the short trek home. Finally, for the first time in that day, she talked aloud, and to herself. "I don't have many friends here, do I? I've always spent more time trying to get out of here, but never really thought about the students here. Well... not that I'd want to be friends with some of these kids."

Her amber eyes shot to the lockers at the end of the hallway, looking at a small group in particular and thankful that she could easily avoid bumping into them today. She didn't know any of those girls personally, but she highly suspected that they had criminal backgrounds or just generally up to no good. 'Wouldn't surprise me... if they were part of the Negaverse. But then again, I don't think Negaversians would resort to such trivial things. Unless that's what they want us to think. Hmmm...'

Gwendolyn became lost in thought, her eyes still lingering on the small group of girls without thinking too much of the consequences. She faced Youma and a Dark Mirror senshi before... what could a bunch of possible hooligans do to make it worse?

For Mayumi, life was fairly normal, or about as normal as it got for anyone living in Destiny City. She appreciated the fences and walls of Saint Mags a little more with talk of monsters, though, compared to some, she really had no real huge grudges about being at the religious school. Living on-campus felt like it provided her with more freedom than she had had at home.

She had no locker of her own since she had a dorm, but one of Mayumi's derby friends had a locker to which she had shared the combination. The grey-eyed girl paid it a visit now; she was missing a book she had to read from for homework, and, having been unable to find it in her room, realized she had likely left it in the locker.

As she approached, Mayumi saw a girl she didn't recognize standing nearby the locker. Or, well, maybe she had seen that black-and-white hair around before, but she did not know the other girl personally. She looked younger, if she had to guess. Either way, they had a chance to become acquainted now:

"Excuse me," Mayumi said politely with a smile, gesturing to the locker beside the stranger. Then she followed her gaze down the hall and laughed once, with decidedly less politeness. "Sorry if they're your friends, but seriously, that brunette chick should shut up about how many guys she's slept with." She then fixed the younger girl with a serious adult look. "And if they're not your friends, stay away from them unless you like hearing about all the parties they get trashed at."

Gwendolyn was completely lost in thought by the time that she heard someone talking to her, and if it wasn't the girl's long (and admittedly GORGEOUS) hair that caught Gwen's attention, it was what she had to say.

"Sorry if they're your friends, but seriously, that brunette chick should shut up about how many guys she's slept with." Gwen's golden eyes shot wide, before narrowing, and if one could read her mind, they could have heard her rather triumphant remark. 'I knew it!

She looked back at the silver haired girl when she laughed, and she couldn't ignore just how serious that look she gave was, and what she might have done to deserve it. "And if they're not your friends, stay away from them unless you like hearing about all the parties they get trashed at."

Now it was Gwen's turn to laugh, and she motioned to the blonde with the fake green eyelashes. "They're not my friends. That one, right there, ol' Green Eyes... she welcomed me to this school with a black eye. Her hair was longer then, in a weave... I went home with a handful that day."

She could almost feel the oil residue between her fingers, despite it being months, and she outwardly quivered at the thought of it. "I washed and washed, but it wouldn't go away. Ick..."

This led to a small coughing fit, forcing Gwen to quickly turn away and hoping she hadn't coughed on her. How rude would that have been! 'Damn this cold! Why won't it just go away?'

Gwen had to admit that, despite how random it was, it was actually nice to be talking to another student this time around, and not just another nun. Sister Jeanne would be so proud of her! She couldn't help but keep looking at that hair of hers, subconsciously twirling the strands at her chest and silently admiring hers, and never one to keep her comments to herself, she blurted out. "Your hair's beautiful, though. How long did it take you to grow yours out?"

"Ugh," Mayumi replied to Gwen's remark about the green-eyed girl, and made a point of rolling her eyes. "I'm sorry, hon. Not all of us upperclassmen here are criminals, I promise."

Gently, she nudged in beside Gwen and put the combination into the locker, then opened the door with minimal rusty protest from the hinges. The older girl spared a quick worried glance at her when she coughed, then crouched to look through the books stacked in no particular order at the bottom of the storage space.

The compliment came as a bit of a surprise, and Mayumi blushed lightly as she looked up at Gwen. "Oh, thank you!" She put a finger to her lips as she thought a moment, then replied with a cheerful smile, "Just a couple months, really, although before I started wearing it this long, I had it just in like a little bob." A gesture with one finger indicated where it had been cut before. "I think my hair grows faster in the summer, though, so I don't know how long it would take you to grow yours this long."

Her attention returned to the books for a moment, and this time she spotted the one she needed immediately. "Ah!" Taking it, she stood up and held it to her chest with one arm, and brushed her other hand over her skirt to smooth it out before shutting the locker again.

"Your hair is cool, too, though," she said then, appraising the underclassman. "Very different." Then, venturing back to their prior conversation topic, inquired, "Have you been here since you were a freshman?"

Now, Gwen wasn't that much of a girly girl; she enjoyed video games, sports and other activities that girls her age would scoff at, but she could never ignore the fact that she was, in fact, a girl at heart, and to have any part of her physical appearance compliment gave her a warm, fuzzy feeling from within. She tried not to get too giddy, as she pulled at her white strands once more before forcing her hands to her side again.

Suddenly, it didn't matter that her locker was close to those thugs, and she seemed much more focused, more relaxed, than when Mayumi had approached her. She replied, counting on her fingers how long it had been since she moved in with her sister. "Well, it's been a few months, but I wasn't here at the beginning of the year. I moved to Destiny City in late September but didn't start coming here until some time in October, so I've only been here... oh, six months now?"

She didn't want to go on about her true feelings for St. Mag's, at least not so soon. She had no idea what kind of student this girl was and whether she enjoyed coming here or not, so it seemed rude to just spring that onto her. She didn't even know her name!

"By the way, my name's Gwendolyn Caspian, but you can call me Gwen, if you want." Gwen said, introducing herself. "What's your name?"

"Oh, wow." Mayumi offered a sympathetic look. "This must be a hard place to be moving in to the city. Really, people in Destiny City aren't so bad."

She brightened again at the offer to exchange names, and replied, "I'm Mayumi." Tucking the book under one arm, she offered her right hand to Gwen to shake. "Nice to meet you, Gwen." Befriending underclassmen was not beneath her, clearly; her smile looked genuine. "I was born and raised in Destiny City, but this is only my second year here at Saint Mags'. I guess..." she trailed off for a moment to consider. "I guess I've gotten used to it. I've got a dorm here, even though my family only lives like twenty minutes away. Don't tell them, but I like the freedom living without them here."

Another small smile. "It's one good thing to think about, being here."

The concept of anything regarding St. Mag's and the word freedom being used in the same sentence almost blew her mind, and Gwen's poker face was outright abysmal when it came to hiding her surprise. Her golden eyes grew wide with surprise, as she asked, "You like it here? Even with the nuns watching your every move, the bullies and thugs? You still like it?"

She had subconsciously thought about all the times she tried to skip out on classes, how much she missed her old school and wanted to be in any of the other schools in Destiny City, how much she wanted to be there instead of here. And here was someone that seemed to like it here, and for the freedom she felt she had?

"I guess I need another year to get used to it. But I still want to go to any of the other schools. I feel restricted here, too confined, and, honestly," She glanced to the troupe of girls that they had been discussing earlier and quickly looked away before either of them could notice her stare. "A little threatened."

Mayumi glanced upwards and nodded slowly, recalling her time at Meadowview. In a lot of ways, it felt like a long time ago. But on the other hand, she had flown below the radar back then, and more or less did the same now. It was easy to escape the nuns' ire by appearing minimally attentive in class and not giving anyone a bloody nose here. Here, at least, she was not required to go home after class every afternoon.

"Do you live on campus?" she asked the other girl, recalling that asking about parents directly was often unwelcome at Saint Mags.

And then, hoping to reassure the younger girl a little, Mayumi went on, "I've found that I had a little less trouble with people once I started sports. I mean, roller derby. That's what I do. Do you do any sports?" Her grin turned slightly impish. "Trucked a few people during matches because that's what I'm supposed-- well, allowed to do. Helps send a message to step off a little."

She held the book in front of her in both hands, rocking slightly on her uniform shoes and looking too much the innocent schoolgirl to not be trying on purpose. "If you ever wanna join me skating, let me know?" The grey-eyed girl shrugged her shoulders once. "It's a good excuse to get off campus a little, and the wind in your hair helps with the freedom thing, I think."

"I don't live on campus, no," Gwen replied, trying to keep the relief out of her voice when she said that as to not offend Mayumi. The mere thought of having to live here, with the nuns, with Sister Jeanne? That frightened her more than detention, and possibly youma all together. "I live with my sister in an apartment complex just a block or two away. That way she doesn't have to worry about me taking a bus or having to drop me off, and I have a quick get away for when I feel like 'missing'."

That was her polite way of saying cutting class, and she almost winked, but refrained in case there was a nun nearby. In response to her comment on sports, Gwen was hesitant to answer, not just because she was intrigued by this sport she played, but because she wasn't sure if gymnastics would count. Eventually, she nodded, "Gymnastics, if you count that as a sport. It's rigorous, requires some athletic skills and conditioning, and pretty dangerous if you take a wrong step or miss your landing. No where near as exciting as roller derby, though..."

Then, she added in, feeling a little embarrassed but also, eager. "Never was good at roller skating, but I'd love to try roller derby someday. It sounds like fun, and a good way to blow off some steam." Then, she added in, but only to herself. 'Because I sure have a lot of it these days...'

Gwen knew that lunch period was running out soon, and that would mean that her window to cut class, if she so desired to, was coming to a close. But, she wanted to talk to Mayumi more; this was the first person here, besides a nun, that she actually got to TALK to, and not end up getting into a fight or argument within initial introductions!
