It had been probably hours that Rakuree had amused himself by scratching up heaps of leaves into large piles, then climbing the nearby tree only to leap down into them, seeing how far they could scatter.
The green leopard was delighting in this activity, barely aware of the forest around him, full from a recent kill and so not hungry in the least. Though he had started to tire, finding he wanted a nap, or would very soon. This in mind, he simply lay in the pile of now scattered leaves after his most recent leap from a tree into the pile. His tail switching back and forth, the sun creeping its slow march towards evening across the sky.
"Mmmmmm, such a nice day today.... Maybe I'll just lay here until midnight or so..." He closed his eyes briefly, a purr collecting in the back of his throat.

Keep moving... Paw over paw. One step after another.
It had become a mantra for the moss colored leopard since being chased from his pride, confined to the death trap of a device. Though it had been meant to serve as a means of preventing the crazed leopard from senselessly attacking unsuspecting and undeserving passers by, the uniquely crafted muzzle had also prevented Grunge from being able to eat. Of course, in his frustration he had only continued to lash out at strangers--even more so now than he ever had in the past--so the brilliant plan of the colony leaders had backfired. The blood spilled by the monstrous beast was on their paws, but then, hadn't it been the whole time? After all, Polzuchii Chuma was their creation. Gone horribly awry.
Drone-like forward motion was only interrupted at the smell of a potentially easy meal, causing pale golden eyes to waver, searching for the source. Following the trail of blood to a corpse that was still relatively fresh, though despite the pungent scent there didn't appear to be much left to scavenge. Not that Grunge was able to do much more than nudge at the remains in frustration, dirt and drying blood caking on the upper and lower mandibles of the parchment colored skull that served as a makeshift muzzle.
The deadened thud of weight hitting the ground and crinkling leaves scattering left Grunge hopeful that maybe the owner of the kill was still around. Even if he couldn't sample the predator's flesh, the thin gaps between clenched jaws permitted fluids to seep into the mask and the sweet taste of blood wasn't a meal he intended to pass up.

Rakuree lifted his head when he the abrupt scent of another cat, he thought a leopard, perhaps? hit his nose, despite his position laying in the leaves. Deftly he lept to his feet and climbed the tree he had been primarily using as a launching pad for his jumps into the forest floor. If someone was coming, he wanted to have the advantage. He loved to surprise people, and maybe whoever it was might want to play! Leopards tended to be a little more solitary than lions, but he'd had good experiences lately, and he wasn't one to have a pessimistic attitude especially about meeting new folks.
So as the other leopard nosed his recent kill, out of his sight, Rakuree perched in the tree waiting for the unknown cat to come within range so they could speak. How long had it been since he'd seen another leopard? He couldn't remember. His assumption was that perhaps the other cat might have found his kill where he'd left it - mostly a shell of bones and grisle that wouldn't feed much more than birds and ants - since he'd not bothered to hide the carcass.
A slight pang of pity passed through him. What if the other cat was hungry? He hadn't been thinking of companions when he lunched earlier, and had devoured every little morsel for himself. Now, with the potential for amiable company, he wished he had saved a bit to share, in case this new arrival was in need of a bite or two. Though he supposed if that was the case, together they could hunt something or other down to make a meal.
A plan was already forming in his head as to what method would be the best, and what they ought to hunt together, when his impatience for the other cat to show itself won out over his desire to surprise them, and he spoke up. "Hello~! If you've found my kill, I apologize for not leaving much of anything for you to eat... I didn't know there was another big cat around." He knew he was inviting the other to his location by shouting, but he didn't care, in fact he was looking forward to see the other. Maybe it was even a cheetah! But no, he had definitely smelled leopard before he climbed the tree...

Giving the carcass one last swipe of frustration for good measure, Grudge finally abandoned the remains in favor of the sound of a nearby stranger. Following the echo of the noisy "fwump" and the scent of weathered leaves that sat heavily on the air in their dried state of slow decay the slinking plague paused for a moment briefly. Claws scraping against bark caused the predator to readjust his path along the forest floor, slowly snaking through the underbrush.
His prey seemed aware that something was out there, but as far as he could tell they had no idea what or maybe the idiot wouldn't have called out so freely.
Hardly believing his luck the malevolent entity bristled with amusement at the naivete of his fellow leopard. He was sorry? Not as sorry as you're going to be. The thought crossed Grudge's mind as he crouched near a low branch, springing into it in an effort to make less noise than the leopard he was stalking. Crossing branches as his head weaved back and forth in a serpentine motion, searching for the other that had beckoned to him the seasoned killer made a point to climb a few branches higher to keep from being noticed right away. It was far easier to ambush from above than below.

The green spotted leopard tilted his head, scanning the ground below for whoever it was that had found his kill. He hoped he hadn't chased them off by calling out earlier! That would just be a shame....
But not seeing anyone approaching, or hearing them, he started to wonder. Maybe he had scared them off... or maybe they had just been looking for a meal and seeing as how he hadn't left much in the way of even scraps for anything bigger than a badger, well... he couldn't blame them if they had gone away. The thought saddened him a bit. Company was always welcome!
It was such a waste to be near someone and then not even get to say hello!
Thinking maybe they were just shy, he waited a little longer looking down from his tree perch, scanning the ground below, hoping to see something or other pass by, unawares that he was being stalked.
"Hello?" he called out hesitantly again. "I won't hurt you, if you're worried... are you still there?" the thought that whoever it was had already gone saddened him, and he slumped against the tree branch with a sigh.
"I'm not frightening, am I?" he asked to the open air.

Was this guy for real? As the clueless leopard continued to call out, fairly well hidden by the canopy greenery that surrounded him--especially with Grunge threading his way through the branches from above--his scent continued to give away his location. It wasn't long until the cannibalistic exile was sitting in the branch above his prey, dropping down so that they inhabited the same space.
Despite the severe loss of weight that made his once muscular frame gaunt the fact remained that Pulzuchii Chuma was unnaturally large for his kind. Rivaling an average rogue lioness in size the branch wobbled and bent beneath the added weight. Hollow gold eyes pinning the stranger with malicious intent as a rolling growl of laughter echoed ominously beneath the bone mask lashed to his face. Won't hurt me? That's too bad.. because I'm so looking forward to hurting you.

Rakuree let out a faint yelp of surprise at the sudden weight that had appeared on his branch. What the heck had that been?! He hazarded a glance back before leaping to an adjacent support of the tree large enough to hold him, his claws scrambling for purchase.
Suddenly staring at him there was another leopard! One not totally dissimilar to him in appearance even! Well... except for that horrible mask he was wearing... why was he wearing that? That was an odd thing to put on your face for sure.... And he was big. The biggest leopard that Rakuree could remember seeing, in fact. Wow... but he looked sort of thin... and the green leopard felt bad for him.
In spite of the strange look on his face - Rakuree had rarely encountered someone that was intentionally malicious and so didn't immediately recognize the threat - he felt bad for this stranger. What had happened to him he wondered? However his eyes flew wide and he shifted on his new pertch in a bit of shock when the leopard spoke a series of words of a type he was very unaccustomed to hearing...
"Hurt me? Why? Are you mad there was nothing left to eat from my kill?" Being such a kind soul himself... it was really the only thing he could immediately think of in response to such words. He began to think that maybe he should be a little bit more cautious of this situation however... and the leopard that was staring him down with hungry yellow eyes.

His chuckle was a deadened sound, void of anything less than the most sinister of emotions cultured by a twisted life. The fact that he had managed to catch his prey off guard thrilled Grunge, though he found himself almost equally as annoyed by the idiot's naive nature. What was with this guy? How could anyone possibly be so damn dense and still manage to live to adulthood? Apparently some animals had better luck than others. Why? Because I can! What more reason would I need?
It was a hypothetical question and not one he expected the leopard to actually answer. Actually, no. That wasn't right. Grunge had no intention of giving this stranger the time to think of an answer! Using the advantage of his target's less than stable new position on a branch below to attack, claws reared. Leaping down across the branches the curve of sickle sharp weapons of death sunk deep beneath the mossy green pelt of his adversary. Knocking them both from the tree their bodies landed in a tangle with a hard thump and several rolling paces before they finally came to stop.
The impact had been hard on Grunge's bony body, but will of steel and resolute conviction to see his hunt through wouldn't allow him to let go. The scent of blood set his senses on edge and what pain threatened to sink into his skinny physique subsided to the overpowering adrenaline rush of his blood lust. Now just stop talking! You're ruining my damn buzz!

Rakuree barely had time to think - exactly the other leopard's goal - after the other cat spoke. Just because he could? Why? That didn't make any sense at all! Especially not to comeone with a kind heart like the green spotted leopard.
He let out a pained yelp when he felt claws dig into his flesh, slicing into his hide just behind his shoulder. Pain blossomed out from the wound, but he barely had time to register it as the other leopard's skinnier body slammed into him and took them both tumbling off the branch and into the ground. Thankfully they fell partially onto one of the piles of leaves the green leopard had been jumping into before, and the fall was lessened, but only slightly.
Rolling onto all four paws with a groan, Rakuree shook his head clear. Blood was streaming down his side from the punctures and claw slices the other leopard had placed in his hide. What could be possibly have done to warrant such a reaction?! Rakuree didn't like to fight, but he supposed if that was what this other cat wanted, considering what he'd already inflincted, he didn't really have a choice...
A low growl issued out of his throat, but it sounded more defensive than agressive. It was obvious he didn't really want to attack, only was warning the other to come no closer. "Stay away from me!!! I don't know why you're so angry with me, but keep back!" He wasn't a mean fellow, and never wanted to be... but he would defend himself when backed into a corner.

The scent of blood had already begin to pour into his nostrils as it seeped from his prey's open wounds. Who the hell could ever get any sort of enjoyment out of killing something as weak and feeble as a gazelle when there were far more formidable targets all around them. The flesh of a lion or a cheetah was even more savory than any grass eater. Leopards however, were Grunge's favorite. In a rabid haze saliva foamed from his maw, dripping through the gaps of the bone jaws that prevented the berserk assassin from one thing he wanted more than anything else.
To sink his fangs into a feast fit for the rare few who dared to taste it.
Angry?! The word came on a rush of laughter that echoed wickedly inside the shell that contained it. Pressing forward carelessly despite the leopard's posture and verbal warning. It amused Pulzuchii Chuma that this naive beast could look at him and think that rage was what fueled his attack. You really need to learn to read people better! Do I sound angry?
When the laughter paused it was sudden and unexpected and entirely on purpose as the quiet seemed to emphasize the danger this leopard was in, if he hadn't realized it already. What I am.. is hungry.
Stretching out a paw to breach the distance between them, a sharp, sudden rustle caused the predator's ears to quirk, head reeling around in a hurry. Damnit, he couldn't risk being caught by another big cat and if they decided to help this nitwit---You'll live.. today. Lucky thing.
In a whirl of mossy fur the beast was gone, an apparition lost amidst the foliage.
