It was early in the morning, the long, prairie grass still wet with the rains that had thundered down from last night. It had been quite the storm, and she had watched with wide, gleeful eyes as she had taken shelter in an abandoned bear cave, fascinated with the lightning that had been dancing across the night sky.
In the morning, she had shaken off the remnants of sleep, her fetlocks swishing through the grass and her tail brushing back and forth as she went. She didn't mind the wet, not at all. A little moisture wasn't going to stand in her way! It smelled beautifully, the earth rich after the downpour. She pawed at the ground a little experimentally before snapping up a mouthful of grass, humming with pleasure in her throat.
Well, this seemed like a promising start to the morning! The birds were singing, the air was warm... There were pranks to be done, she could just tell.

[[ ** Note: Any mention of "Geostigma" is just a delusion in his head. There is no real Geostigma in the Soquili Universe. Also, any mention of "Mother" or "Jenova" is not in terms of the Soquili that is already made. That is just another delusion of his. ]] That blasted storm. It had halted all his advances toward finding Mother. And needless to say, it had put Yazoo in a horrid mood the night before. He could remember snapping and breaking things randomly and shouting at the skies. When he laid down that night, he found himself merely resting within the shade of some trees; and was thankful it was dense enough not to let the water drip through and completely soak him. He'd be irritated beyond belief if his precious gun got soaked and damaged. But, since it didn't happen, and he woke up feeling somewhat rested, the silver haired stallion stood from his little nest, and shook off any moisture that did happen to collect on his coat. He looked back, staring at the area he was located within, before trotting out of the woods, his head held high.
Breakfast was the first thing on his agenda, and where he usually found something more nutritious than grass, it seemed like it was the only option right now. He leaned down, sniffing the semi wet blades, before letting out a slight snort. At the very least he wasn't going to eat anything another creature had already munched on. Lifting his head, his bright green eyes scanned the area, looking for a place that seemed like no other creature would happen to go look for to eat. But his eyes stopped, locking on something else. Something he was somewhat shocked to see.
For a moment, his mind formed the female to be Mother. His heart skipped a beat, and he reared up slightly in glee. Running forward, he got within a few yards of the female, before stopping short, blinking several times. It was, of course, his mind playing tricks on him. Yazoo shook out his mane, snorting again in frustration, before peering at what was really there. The white coated female seemed somewhat happy. She was, honestly, striking to look at. With her lovely markings, and blond hair that matched the rising sun. But what struck the stallion the most was the animal-istic tail that swayed behind her. He had never seen a creature with a tail like that; but he was interested, since it was abnormal. Maybe it was a defect of the Geostigma, but the grey, ashy skin was no on this lovely mare.
".... Hn." Was the only audible noise Yazoo could release, without wanting to scream his head off for the mare not being Mother. Even though, of course, it wasn't her fault.

The sudden stampede of hooves coming her way was enough to make the young mare's head snap up, red eyes narrowed slightly with a combination of wariness and confusion. A threat? Or simply a bystander craving contact with another sentient being? She didn't know, but she was bracing herself to find out! His wild, unkempt silver mane tumbled over a pair of bright, slitted green eyes, and the attire practically covering his entire body... Well, Kit had never seen anything like that before. It looked ungainly and a bit restraining, but what did she know?
The sound he suddenly made both surprised and amused her, her tail flicking pointedly with a snap through the grass. She didn't bother to hide the smile that curled across her muzzle, still watching him just in case he suddenly decided to lunge. "You're the one who barged in on me. Some manners might be nice." She pointed out loftily, but her tone wasn't unkind. Really, what a strange stallion! Rushing up as though she was some long lost friend, and then acting as though she'd been the one who had intruded on his personal space!
Ahh, Mother had always said that even the cleverest woman couldn't make much sense of stallions...

Yazoo stared her down, his green slitted eyes somewhat angry, and yet at the same time interested. What was this female? Honestly, he'd never seen anything like it; well, like her. After all, he did know her gender. His head tilted slightly to the side as he observed her. She was alarmed by his presence; but only for a moment. The grin that shifted out over her features caused his eyes to narrow slightly in a piercing gaze. What was she grinning about? Though his eyes shifted, his expression stayed that neutral calm that he always held so close to him. Where she had a mask, he had one of expression, and like hell was he going to show anyone the pleasure of seeing him show any weakness.
"Manners? Yes, they are supposed to be nice, aren't they?" He mused, his voice calm, and yet somewhat taunting. Yazoo let his eyes flicker along her form once more. That tail was just too interesting to not stare at. He'd seen horses with the tails of devils, and the tails of what reminded him of lions ( Red XIII to be exact ), but this was more... cat like. Agile, lean, and quick to flick. But what was she doing out here? What in the world was she trying to do? There was no one out here; besides himself and this mare that was. Before letting his mind wander too far, he took a slight step back, to give them some distance. There was no reason to crowd the mare.
But Yazoo wasn't going to leave that easily. He wanted information; and even if he had to beat the mare to find out, he would do so. "Have you see Mother?" Alongside that calm, monotone voice, there came an edge of steal. Of demanding nature. She would tell him, and she would not lie. And if she did, well, Yazoo would ensure she told the truth soon after.

What was this creature? He looked at her like she was a slab of meat, but as far as she could tell, there were no trademark signs of Kalona blood within him. The tail, the wings, the teeth... Well, she hadn't gotten a glimpse of all of his teeth, so one never knew! One couldn't be too careful, either. Her tail was still twitching back and forth, just like an amused cat's, and her eyes never left his face. "Supposed to be," Kit agreed flippantly enough, as though he'd been the one to speak of manners in the first place! Perhaps she was just trying to push his buttons.
"Oh, yes. I've seen many of mothers in my time. Big ones, small ones, bad ones, good ones. That's hardly enough information to go on." She tossed her head as though she hardly had a care in the world. She didn't, really. She didn't know this stallion, and the fact that he was looking for his mother of all things... "Perhaps you hadn't ought to let her out of your sight, hm?"
Kit's ears flicked forward, that smile never leaving her face. She was, simply, asking for it.

And push his buttons she was doing. Irritation crossed his face for a millisecond, before disappearing back into the emotionless sea that was Yazoo. The only sign he was still irritated was his eyes, which narrowed even farther. He could feel his breath surging through his chest, staggered slightly from controlling his rage. And control was not something Yazoo specialized in. He tried to grit his teeth, to hold back from just shooting her or attacking her head on, so that he could hopefully get even a smidgen of information. Who knew, maybe she did in fact know, and if he hurt her, she wouldn't tell him, right? So he had to be calm. He had to let his mind stay in check, and not dip into the insanity it usually resided in.
"My Mother. The Mother of all; the Mother of the Lifestream. Jenova. Have you seen her?" He asked, his voice dipping into the anger that he felt. Yazoo tried to remind himself to stay calm, but it was getting hard to do. He really just felt like pinning the female and snapping at her until she released information. And if that didn't work, he wanted to try and force her to help him find her. He was calm, yes; but one of his triggers for the rage filled insanity was his Mother. And like hell would he let some female stop him from his quest. No matter how interesting she was.

Well, now that just sounded ridiculous. There was no Mother of All--not unless they embodied the very spirit on the earth. Even then, surely they wouldn't inhabit any mortal shell. Still, Kit wondered just how far she could push the situation. The stallion was like ice, composed and frigid, but something about him was strange. Maybe he was just crazy. Dropped on his head as a foal? Snake-bitten? She didn't know. Until he did something to really present himself as a threat, she saw no reason to not continue this little 'converation' of theirs.
"If she looks anything like you, no, I haven't." Kit replied, her stance still confident. "And you may glare at me all you'd like: it will do you know good, and gain you none of the answers that you seek." She only spoke the truth, after all! If he kept looking at her in such an ugly way, why, she wouldn't be inclined to help him at all, even if she did know anything!
Oh, well, then again, she might have. He'd just have been forced to work for it a little harder.

This mare was definitely irritating. Or maybe it was just how he was... easily irritated. Yazoo took a somewhat deep breath, trying to keep himself calm, before closing his eyes. He let his hoof beat the ground a couple times, before opening his eyes to stare back at the female. The irritation was still there, but it was no longer a glare. Instead, it was just him staring with that neutrality and calmness that he was known for. Tilting his head slightly, Yazoo let a small snort, the heat of it making the air around him momentarily visible. He let his eyes drift over her form, before looking away and searching the area around him.
"I suppose you are right..." He murmured. Yazoo let himself relax just a bit, though his muscles were still very taunt and locked. He wasn't going to allow himself to be bested by anyone. Even this female he never knew. Letting his eyes flicker to stare toward her once more, he tilted his head. He was trying to figure out what else to say. If she was going to keep information from him, perhaps he should play nice in order to find out more. Deciding it was the best thing to do, he took one more deep breath to keep his cool, and stared at her with an intensity he only got when he was seriously focused. "I am curious, female. I have never seen one such as you. Your tail... it is that of a feline. How?" He asked, voice monotone and calm.

Oh, now he wanted to play nice and ask civilized questions? Her lips twitched, and it was a real effort to keep her growing smile from turning into a full-fledged grin. This stallion was a regular joke! Best not to laugh at him, though--no men wanted to have their pride damaged. It made them feel like they needed to retaliate, which was something she had no desire to deal with!
Ah, right, her heritage. With a toss of her head, she sighed to herself, looking reluctant. Her ears flicked this way and that way, displaying her displeasure with having to share this piece of information. It was all an act, of course. She had absolutely no intention of reveling something to an utter stranger--and such a queer one, at that!
"My father was a dragon, and my mother, a beautiful shrine maiden. Dragons back east.. well, surprisingly enough, they are, indeed, furred. Great manes and beautiful, luxurious tails." She looked him dead in the eye as she spoke, undaunted.

Yazoo's ears flicked up, eyes watching her with a stare that could halt a strong stallion. She seemed to be hiding something, be it an expression or information; or both. But he knew she was hiding one thing or another; and if he had to find it out, then he would keep his head in order to do so. He wasn't going to just allow her to trick him, but taunting seemed to be his style, and he didn't like to be lied to. But that was beside the point. He needed on this mare's good side, and how he had reacted earlier was not the best way to do so. So with a slight flip of his mane to get the stray strands from his face, he locked eyes with her, and listened to what she had to say.
Almost instantly Yazoo had a feeling it was a lie. He felt an ear flick back, before perking again. Though beside that one slight shift, his expression never changed. He nodded ever so slightly, taking in her words and processing them for a few more seconds. It seemed like she wore a mask just as he did; and hers resembled the one on her temple. A trickster, was she? There were rumors of fox like creatures that were Master's of that, and her mask reminded Yazoo of such. But he would allow her lie to slide for now, and take it as truth. "... I see... How curious." It was then that the stallion realized he didn't know the mare's name; and though it didn't matter much at the moment, he would probably need to know it eventually. "My apologies, I don't believe I introduced myself... My name is Yazoo. And what is yours?"

Strong stallion or not, Kit didn't flinch away from those odd-colored eyes. She wasn't afraid, and had no intention of becoming afraid! He was an oddball, and that was that. His expression was impossible to read: did he believe her, or did he not? Well, it didn't really matter. He didn't ask, and she didn't offer. "A pleasure, Yazoo." She laughed. "I am Kit. Happy to make your acquaintance." Or something formal like that!
Her tail flicked again, swiping through the grass. "Why, may I ask, are you looking for your mother? She couldn't have gotten far, could she?" Unless this was something more creepy than she realized.

Yazoo let out a small snort, shaking out his mane. Kit? What an appropriate name for the female. He lifted his eyes, looking around, before doing a slow walk around the mare, making sure to take in every small detail he could. He liked to know who and what it was he talked to, especially if there could be a fight coming. He didn't suspect one of happening, but it was always a good idea to prepare for one, just in case. Letting his ears flick up, the stallion stopped once more in front of Kit, his eyes staying locked, but showing no emotion once more. The irritation and rage he had felt was gone.
"... She is in danger. People want to kill her, and it is my job to protect her. Though I have not seen her in what feels to be ages. I must find Mother... even if it kills me." He stated, his tone changing to a soft, almost worried noise, before going back to the calmness he usually portrayed, eyes shifting to lock once more on Kit. "What is it you are doing way out here? Don't your species usually stick together?" He asked, eyes curious once more.

Her tail swayed back and forth in steady cadence, her head angling itself juts slightly so she could keep him in her sights. If he was about to lunge at her, she was going to whip him in the eyes if she could and get the hell out of there. Fortunately, that didn't seem to be the case. She would hate to spoil such a lovely morning with violence. An amused breath puffed itself from her nostrils, and she kept herself exactly where she was, her face only inches from his. Some of the mirth faded from her expression at the grave statement, and her ears tilted back slightly.
"I see. I'm sorry to hear that." Why they would want to kill a mare... well, she had to wonder. What had she done that had people clamoring for her death? "My species?" She snorted at him, finding the term absurd. "No. I prefer to spend time on my own. Alone."

Yazoo's calm eyes watched her with interest. She seemed almost... hurt, by the sound of what he spoke of. Yes, it was in fact true that people wanted to kill Mother. And as much as it pained him to think about it, it was also just something he couldn't stop. He hated the fact, honestly. But he would do anything to save her. Anything to protect her. And the fact that this mare was so... concerned, made Yazoo's mind go a bit more at ease. He relaxed slightly, his body losing the somewhat tenseness. He let his shoulders drop slightly, and his head lower just a smidgen, before his eyes fell partially half-lidded. It was nice, to relax. Holding up his disillusioned mind frame was exhausting, even if he didn't realize he was doing it.
But when she seemed irritated at the second statement, Yazoo's ears perked. The stallion let out a small snort, before nodding his head and lowered it to nibble on some of the grass, his eyes thoughtful. He sighed after a moment, and lifted his head, staring toward her, before moving to shake out his mane again, and let his mind keep somewhat calm, as calm as he could. "Alone...? Being alone is not always the best thing..." He sounded somewhat thoughtful, yet at the same time almost concerned, his eyes flickering to stare back toward her. Yazoo's mind went into that concerned, almost protective state.

Well, it seemed as though Stuffy was finally winding down. Perhaps his mother was just as strange as he was. She could see where an attitude like that would land him in hot water. Still, if she didn't have to be forced into a confrontation, she certainly wasn't going to chance it!
"Well that seems ironic, seeing as you're tramping around here all by your lonesome," Kit grinned lazily, giving herself a shake. "I've been at this a long time, so no need to worry your pretty little head about me." She had full faith in her abilities and her instincts. From not-quite-aggressive to not-quite-concerned? This Yazoo character needed to make up his mind on how exactly he felt about her. "Besides, you've got bigger things to worry about than little old me, don't you? What about your mother?
