Buluu was on his way. The sun was rising on the horizon and he was determined to make the day his own. It was the time of the year when the gazelle were birthing their babies which for Buluu meant plenty of chances to nab him a baby gazelle and an easy meal. He was in search now for a herd of any size. He didn't care as long as it meant finding food. This day was going to simply be devoted to finding a gazelle herd without alerting them to his presence first of course.

His course was set on a distant line of tree’s that in this land would technically be considered a forest. He had a feeling there might just be a gazelle herd waiting there among those tree’s just for him. Not that they knew he was coming it would be more of a, surprise here I am, sort of deal. The forest seemed close but far away at the same time. Anticipation had him moving much faster than what he might have usually gone but he was still having to pace himself if he wanted to have the energy when he got there to chase down his meal.

Buluu could not remember a time now when he had worked with another cheetah to catch his food. Being born the only cub of a mother cheetah had only meant for Buluu that after his mother believed it was time for him to step out into the world he would be on his own after that. He had stayed with his mother for as long as she had allowed it and then he’d left. He put up a bit of a fight to stay with her as she had been all he had ever known but eventually she had succeeded in running him off. He was not mad at her per-say for doing so there was just times when he missed having someone as a companion. Perhaps that was the reason he tended to meet up with other cheetah’s and at times different species who were friendly and spend a little of his wandering time talking, irritating or even flirting with them. Being on his own at times was just plain boring and this trek to find food was just one of those times. He had things to occupy his mind like his empty stomach but it just wasn’t the kind of occupying he liked.

He truly was a social cheetah. He loved being around others especially females. He couldn’t help himself when it came to the girls he just had to flirt with them. It was one of his biggest weaknesses. Any lady could make this boy do whatever she wanted if she pulled the right strings. Someday he hoped to find a lady that would tie those same strings to her and never let him go. However until one did he was happy flirting with every lady that came by just to see if one would finally tie him down.
Buluu sighed and lowered himself to the ground as he came to the line of tree’s he had been attempting to reach. Just ahead of him was what he had been hoping he would find at this line of tree’s. A small group of gazelle’s was gathered and grazing together among the trees. Buluu stalked about the group trying to find a baby that was not paying attention. Despite his search he could not find any babies among this group. There were several pregnant gazelle's but no babies. Apparently these gazelle’s had not yet birthed their babies so Buluu was out of luck for any easy meal. He was going to have to turn his attention to the adults of the group.
He was attentive to the group and picked his target carefully before he chose the gazelle he intended to take down. The gazelle he spotted had its head down and as it moved in its grazing Buluu noticed the gazelle was slightly limping which would make taking him down much easier. He moved in towards the gazelle attempting to close the gap a bit before he sprung from his spot. Despite his efforts one of the other gazelle’s spotted him and sounded the alarm.
Buluu had been spotted but he did not give up. He sprang from where he was and dashed after the gazelle. The gazelle was quick even with the limp that Buluu had spotted. He must have not been as hurt as Buluu believed to begin with. Buluu pushed his legs as fast as they would take him. The gazelle ran and weaved through the tree’s trying his hardest to elude the cheetah on his tail. Buluu began to close in and once within reach he swiped at the gazelle’s back legs and tried to trip up the gazelle. His efforts were to no avail as the gazelle kicked his back legs out and managed to land a lucky shot with one of its hooves right into Buluu’s chin.
The world went black. Buluu was knocked unconscious and his body skidded to a halt on the ground. Buluu was unconscious for most of the day and was lucky when he awoke and was otherwise unharmed. He had not even been found by another predator. Buluu sat up from where he had laid all day long. His head was hurting and his body was aching as well. He turned his gaze to the sun on the horizon and was shocked to realize that it was setting. He sighed in frustration. He had lost the whole day. It had all been wasted because one stupid gazelle had gotten in one good kick. He tried not to let disappointment rule over him as he slowly got up and stretched his body trying to assess the damage done. He wasn’t in too much pain overall so he knew he would be ok. As he looked back at the sun he sighed as he thought to himself this would be where a companion would truly come in handy.
