Clea stood in the woods examining her handy work. It had taken her all morning and at least half of the afternoon but she had completed it: Clea's Special Training Course version 2. Shredded fabric looped around trees and knotted on branches when she could manage it surrounded a circular area. Within this area she had left various trinkets out on rocks, hanging on branches and in a few cases in the hollows of trees. All of these things she had borrowed from her mentor, Dark, while he was off and she hoped he wouldn't get back before she had the chance to replace them. That would be risky.
However, it was getting even more risky training around anything living using their things so a training course had seemed necessary. She needed to fix a certain problem she had if she wanted to do that she needed to practice. Her little problem just happened to be that she'd end up walking away with the target item and numerous other things that she didn't even realize she had. This way she could start picking what item she was after and hopefully get that item and make it back without anything extra.
"Alright, Clea." She said starting her peptalk. "You can do this. We're going after the bear claw necklace. Just that. Nothing else. Ignore the other shinies. It's not...that...hard."

Altair was out scouting. He'd been restless for a while and had left one of the more trustworthy members of the guild behind to keep an eye on their home. He hated to leave his brother with all the work and has arranged for the younger to have a break from things while he was away. It wasn't long before he came across the scent of another and he halted as he spotted the glint of metal flashing in the late afternoon sun.
Slipping into the shadows and keeping well hidden he kept his wit about him as he observed a mare, she seemed to be alone but if anyone knew he was in the area, it might be a trap. his ears caught the sound of her talking, seemingly to herself. "Shinies hmm? ... this one warrants watching" he thought to himself. Observing quietly, keeping entirely still and unseen for the moment, curious about the mare.

"Okay!" Feeling sufficiently confidant in her abilities she marched into her training course keeping an eye out for the bear claw necklace. The only problem was she couldn't quite remember where she had put it. The placing of things had been a little haphazard because she had been so close to being done. "Maybe...I should have scouted first." She muttered to herself as she pressed on.
Twice she nearly walked out of the course but stopped herself. Four times she had stopped briefly to look at items on the course. One of those times the object that had caught her eye was one of the course markers. Then finally she spotted it lying on a rock. "Bear claw!" She exclaimed trotting over to it happily completely unaware that she was being watched.
"I found you." She cooed before picking it up. "Nah oo het ack oo heh ahrt." She said around the object in her mouth.

Altair watched as the mare trod her 'course' and he was somewhat impressed she had set it up. He might have a new design for the trainees back at the guild to train in. His ears swivelled as she spoke while she moved until she had reached her goal.
As she bent to pick it up, he moved around to emerge from his hiding place behind her, silent as a stalking cat. "Well done but always keep yourself alert" he said in a level voice as he stepped out and made himself visible. He hadn't caught any other's scent in the area so he'd deemed it safe to approach her.

Clea dropped the bear claw and let out a less than dignified babble of surprised shouts that included the classics 'woah', 'who', 'what', 'where' and the Clea original 'hwaaahhaaaa!' She had not quite learned Dark's method of being composed nor the art of being remotely quiet or subdued. Really it was not her fault that there just seemed to be an unusually high number of sneaky stallions living in this part. This was the second time a perfect stranger had sneaked up on her and she didn't even want to count the number of times Dark had done it.
After a moment she felt her heart rate return to normal but still she continued to stare at him like a puppy hearing thunder for the first time. "I...uh...um...alert...yes...good advice." She muttered glancing around wondering if that was some sort of challenge to find more weird stallions lurking in the bushes or something. And he was weird. He was decked out head to hoof in all sorts of unusually things. The most noticeable being the white two-legger clothing.

Altair held himself compsed despite being amused, he kept his face straight. He remembered the new trainees reacting in just this way. "What exactly are you trying to achieve here ma'am?" he asked her, curious about the course and the trinkets. He noticed her looking at him and again this was usual, many Soquili looked him over the first time as he had a somewhat... unusual look about him. Sadly it made him more memorable than he would like but he had learned to live with it.
The fact that she had previous mentioned trinkets made him keep his distance a little as his weapons and such could be considered desirable 'trinkets' and he would know, many had tried to steal from him .. most didn't get far and those that did manage to last longer, were soon caught up with and his items were returned to him....one way or another.

Well, he wasn't yelling at her for being a loud mouth. That was good. She got that a lot. "Well...I'm trying to...break old habits?" That was probably the easiest way to explain it. Habits made sense to most people. Impulses to grab the nearest loose object without caring what it actually was did not.
"The goal is to find the target object and bring it back quickly without taking anything else." When she said it it sounded so simple. Unfortunately in practice it proved to be a great deal more complicated. "Oh, and if you leave the course you have to start over!" She looked at him again and then to the couple of items she could see from where she was standing.
Should she ask him if he wanted to try it? But what if he took something and decided to keep it. She doubted she'd get it back and Dark would kill her if he found out. Maybe it would be better not to ask complete strangers.
