The night hung over the land with a cool heavy humidity. The rain earlier in the day had created a myriad of elements to stir up in the night. Spring was coming early and left the land with a pungent green smell from the rain. There was an underlying sense of winter still laying dormant though, reminding one that she had not yet let go of her time for the season. Vapor? He noticed none of this. Observing the great outdoors was not one of his past times. The only thing that concerned him, was his void of a stomach that beckoned out to him.

Walking through the trees, he searched for something more edible than grass. He wanted meat. It had been days since he had sated the hunger for flesh. A pitiful crossbreed. He was neither a killer nor a healer, tainted with blood of both a unicorn and a kalona. He was far from a saint, but couldn't find it in himself to cross that final line and kill something. It wasn't that he held some conviction against killing. He liked the end result after all--dinner. He simply could not do it! So, instead of finding his own prey to supply his hunger, he searched for leftovers. Or a shared supper. The later being a very rare occurrence. Most flesh eaters did NOT like to share their harvest. Still it was something he'd reduced himself to before. There are times when he can appear to be a bad a** and cause someone to abandon their kill. No luck recently. Two nights ago, he had found a huge male kalona..pure blood at that, feasting on a lamb. Arrogance almost got his wings ripped from his limbs that night. The kalona had been witty though, and not looking for a fight. Unaffected by Vapor, he did not back down from his prize.

Vapor was in an especially sour mood since, and unsatisfied.

Fuming around the trees he dodged his shoulders this way and that. He appeared as if he was pissed at the world, and everything around him was at fault. Each step he made oozed with discontent. Hateful yellow slits darted around, looking for the source of a smell he had caught wind of while flying. It had to be here somewhere....

If there was any need for him to be in stealth, that was a lost cause. He practically tromped through the woods. Soon enough, his sense of smell became more keen to the smell of a fresh corpse. His mouth salivated, and he gave a hoarse manly grunt. He clambered through a break in the trees, to a dead doe. He surveyed the corpse. This one is an acceptable level of dead for him, he noted with wild blacks of his eyes expanding. Not much was left, but he was used to such.

He had rushed in, not even stopping to take note of the area and see if this lifeless dear was accounted for already....

Corvus was having a good morning. Firstly; and most importantly, her belly was full. Perhaps even overfull, the taut flesh of her stomach almost protruding. In her defense, she hadn't had a good meal in a while, and the corpse below was almost begging to be picked at, plus she'd even found some berries - definitely an effect of the springlike weather beginning to appear. Of course, like the weather the berries hadn't been particularly ripe. Not even beginning to redden yet the yellow-green flesh of the berries had been sharp and not at all sweet or juicy but after a winter of over-cold meat pickings and frosted grass, even unripe berries were delicious.

Especially combined with doe meat. Yes, Corvus was one fat and happy carrion bird. Usually she'd vacate the corpse after feeding - she wasn't the only scavenger to be drawn to corpses, and there were bound to be more dangerous ones than her, but she'd been too content to move to more than the nearest tree, a few flaps of her powerful wings carrying her to a solid lower branch, and a flex of her sharp claws to anchor her there whilst she took a well-deserved nap.

She'd stayed that way, snoring softly, until the utterly unstealthy movements of one UniKalona had woken her up. She watched the creature with interest, eventually deciding that she could probably escape if he turned out to be violent - she doubted it. If he was a kalona he had the skills to slaughter deer - so if he was carrion picking there was a reason why he wasn't catching other prey. Her movement to the floor was accompanied by a whispering noise of feathers and a birdlike grin.

"Do you make a habit of stealing prey, or am I just lucky?"

Vapor tore at the flesh from around the ribs that was already exposed. He had barely a bite in his mouth when he heard a faint rustle. He spooked and jumped to move his face towards the sound, crouching over the corpse defensively. The stance was complete with pinned back ears and wings. A snarl escaped his lips as he took another bite, as if it could be his last.

What stood before him was not what he was expecting. She was no kalona, but still looked very....different. Her prey? His eyebrows furrowed together. Yellow slits in his vacant eyes tried to peer right through the strange bird-like mare. Did she kill this doe? She had called it her prey, so this was his conclusion. Whether she had done the deed or not--he filled with hot jealousy.
"Tch." He moved one hoof back and displayed a hateful stare across his face. He didn't answer her question..

A gold ringed horn tilted slowly forward waiting for an assault. This was always his bluff. Getting blood on his horn stirred up a shocking feeling that left him dizzy and confused. Letting blood get on his uni-horn has happened sparingly as a result. He darted his eyes to the corpse he stood over. Why did things have to be so difficult?
Lady was a term he used as an insult, fully out of context. Vulgar as usual. He never had the desire to be any other way.

A smile played around the 'gryphs beak. Though smile raised images of foals and sunny days, fresh grass and sweet apples. The 'smile' upon Corvus's face was distinctly more sinister. It emulated things more like spiderwebs and traps, hidden snares. She studied the stallion in front of her without pause, a beady eye sizing him up. It was when he lowered his head that she twigged. That was no Kalona horn, nor even a Kirin. That was a Uni Horn. No wonder he wasn't hunting his own prey. With such blood he would probably be torn in two directions constantly. What a conundrum, a confliction, all bound up in a stallion with shiny horns and a foul mouth.

He was perfect. The smile spread, and Corvus gave a cawing laugh, a harsh sound but not without amusement. She stretched her wings out then began to preen at her neck; completely unconcerned.

"I think, good sir ,that if you were an attacking kind of stallion you would be killing your own prey instead of scavenging. As a scavenger myself I don't mind. But perhaps you should be more careful. What if I had been a skinwalker? You know there are batlike ones about. You have wings yourself. You should know to look up."

Whilst saying this, Corvus was inching forward, closer to the stallion, completely unafraid. Should he attack her she'd be surprised - and very sorry, most likely.

Darkness emanated from the raven that stood before him. No, she isn't a raven, but the closest he could imagine a soquili might get. Fear is a constant when trying to survive. Was he afraid of her? If anything, she gave him a creepy feeling. Not one that he had encountered before. It clouded his mind, swarming over his thoughts. Words were replaced with silence as her laugh rang out through the forest night. The sound lingered in his ears.

Unmoving, he watched her carefully. No, he wasn't afraid he decided. The comment about him not being the type to attack? This pissed him off even more. How did she know who or what he was like? If he set all his stubbornness aside, he might commend her for being able to figure that out in but a few moments of being near him. He completely ignored her comment about skinwalkers though. His selective listening only heard the part that he took offensively.

As she got closer, he wanted to move, but held his ground, trying his best not to spook. Furrowing his brows, he snapped his mouth onto the corpse and locked onto it. Vapor tried to appear menacing, and serious about the dinner in his mouth. Though, the branded horn directed at her, had seemingly lost it's threat already. This seemed like the next best thing to do. Normally he would still be barking on and on, but part of that fire was extinguished by her bullseye prediction about his personality.
