General Information
The large stone cavern with the tiled floor and large yellow smiley face is likely familiar to at least several trainees, and may even feature in a few nightmares from time to time. Welcome to Deathsweeper, the training course that may only be attempted via c-type golem, and often acts as a testing ground for the Life Division's more painful creations. Stealth and detecting imminent danger are vital for Death Hunters and anyone who has to spend extended amounts of time near Caelius. The Deathsweeper chamber is full of hidden traps that only the finest of survival instincts can survive unscathed.

If you fail: you get to once again relive the sensation of dying. Painfully and sometimes quite strangely.

If you win: you have survived stepping 5 tiles into the room. Anything further is purely for peen and bragging rights.

    Mechanics
  • roll 1 d10
  • check for hp loss and death
  • decide whether or not to use your bonuses
  • if you survive, repeat.
  • roll list: the traps are ICly constantly changing, so feel free to get creative as to what exactly those traps are!
  • -50% HP is off your full HP, so if you hit -50% twice, then you are 100% KO'd

    01. horrible death
    02. - 50% HP
    03. live
    04. live
    05. - 50% HP
    06. - 50% HP
    07. horrible death
    08. - 50% HP
    09. live
    10. horrible death

    Bonus Mechanics
  • This bonus is consumable.
  • All participants get a flag, this flag will allow your character to notice something about the area they're stepping into. OOCly this means you can adjust your rolled number, up or down, by one point. Instinctive moves are used in the same manner as flags. These are stackable, so if you have 1 flag + 1 instinctive move, you can use them up in order to adjust your roll by two.

(If you roll a 1, you may not move your number down to 0, -1, or 10. And 10 cannot be adjusted to 1 or 11.)

  • Trainees: 1 flag
  • Death Trainees: 1 flag + 1 instinctive move
  • Hunters: 1 flag + 1 instinctive move
  • Death Hunters: 1 flag + 2 instinctive moves

"Nightmare."

"Look," She sighed, flexing her arms and legs as she did warm up stretches, just outside of the first tile; she might be in a golem, but it felt so much like her own body that it was almost creepy. Then again, from experience, she knew that the pain she was no doubt going to feel was going to be real too, "I just want to complete this... Besides, it's Deathsweeper, not Lifesweeper or Sunsweeper or Moonsweep-"

And Ariane took her first step.

As she planted her feet firmly on that first tile, she had expected something to happen. A trap door, perhaps, or maybe angry birds. When nothing did, she wasn't sure if she should be cheering or maybe just sighing in relief; after all, anything could happen at any time... She could crawl out of a tank of hungry, vicious piranha alive and get shot by a dart. It was possible.

Steeling her nerves, she took her next step forward.... And her second step was filled with nothing. Pure, blissful nothing.

She actually stood there for a moment and questioned if this was one of those good dreams she was going to wake up from going "NOOOOOOoooooooooo! WHY WASN'T IT REAL LIFE?!" before having to punch the first person she sees to get all the angst out.

Her attention went to the yellow, happy smiley. She remembered it from the first time she did Deathsweeper; at the time, she had no name. No identity. It was a lot different now; other than her name and identity, she also got herself a purpose, the life she had always wanted... No more chasing ghosts in supposedly haunted houses, or investigating the supernatural in hopes of finding something.

She had left all of that behind her...

Glancing at the yellow, happy smiley again, she smiled back at it, and then flipped it the bird before taking her next step.

"What the shi-" As she took her next step, she soon found herself stepping on air and plunging into rather cold water. For a whole second, nothing happened; she floated in the water before drifting upwards naturally, gasping for air once she broke the surface. The peace didn't last long though, and soon, she felt rows and rows of tiny, sharp teeth biting at her through her clothing.

They were eating her alive. Again.

"Oh hell, no," She gritted her teeth and started to swim, every stroke adding to her pain. After what felt like forever, her hand finally touched something solid, and she pulled herself out of the water...

[Moving one down to 4!]

However, as she was about to pull herself up from the water, she paused; the first time she had done this as a nameless individual, she had been so eager to get out of the water that she had just pulled herself out... And landed on a tile that sent her to her death via a poisoned dart.

Stubbornly, she ignored the pain of a million razor sharp teeth sinking into her flesh to swim to the other edge before pulling herself up...

[Moving one up to 9!]

Panting, she got paranoid and decided to flag the tile she was originally going to step on; immediately, several sharp spears sprung up from the ground before slowly retracting. She found the energy to smirk as she crawled up on the adjacent tile, dripping wet and bloody - but alive. She stayed on all fours, her whole body shaking before she rolled over on her back, staring at the ceiling as she tried to catch her breath. Out of the corner of her eye, she spotted a piranha flopping about on dry land, gasping desperately for water; it probably got pulled out of the tank when she heaved herself up.

How ironic.

"You know," She reached for the fish, grabbing it with her bare hands and pulling it towards her before holding it up so that she was staring at it. It seemed to stare back, begging for her to put it back into the water as it flailed weakly in her hand, "Sometimes I hate myself."

"Sometimes, even I get homesick," She muttered, closing her eyes with a soft sigh, "My parents might be busybodies and control freaks, but I'm not a machine. As hard as it is to believe, I have feelings too... s**t, I miss Dean. I wish Jeremy would stop moping around. I can understand his pain - I feel it too, but it's just easier to hide behind a wall, you know? I was honest with him, and then what?"

fish
a question?>

"I wish he would just... Support me the way I want to support him," She sat up and opened her eyes; the piranha had stopped flailing, although she could still see its mouth moving, "I wish I was never 'Boss' to anyone. I don't like the title. I despise it. s**t. I need a friend to tell me that they're a friend."

Pausing, she threw the fish back into the water and stood up just in time to see it swim away.

"Because fishes can't talk back."

"Mmmm," She wasn't really being a good listener there, as the rest of Kintama's rant was lost to her; as much as she knew the truth behind Dean's death, this was where she had seen his golem fall; in a way, he had died in this room too.

<- And the ghouls used to say->

She stood at the edge of the tile, just staring at the next tile before taking another step; after talking to the fish, she felt... Rather at peace with herself for some odd reason. It had been a while since she had been honest with herself; ironically, she was probably more honest to Jeremy than she had been to herself for the past few months following Dean's confirmed death.

For a while, a small part of her wished that there was someway to see him again, as much as she knew how such thoughts were strictly forbidden.

<-sensitive and charming->

She felt the ground beneath her give way, and the only thing she saw was an odd, clear liquid under her - probably some sort of concentrated acid. However, unlike in the past, she felt no fear. No nothing as she closed her eyes and curled up into a ball just as she hit the acid; she felt excruciating pain as her skin and flesh were corroded away, and when she opened her mouth to scream, the acid gushed in, burning everything on the way down-

- And she practically fell out of her pod, coughing violently, her fingers wrapped so tightly around her own throat that she was strangling herself. Although the golem had been disconnected, she could still feel the burning of the acid as it corroded her inside out, the pain from it peeling away her skin and eating at her flesh...

She gasped for air and coughed again, eyes squeezed shut before she stopped completely, almost like someone had hit her pause button, before she started to chuckle. The chuckling soon grew into full-blown laughter as she pulled herself off the ground, rubbing her neck gently and briefly wincing at how painful the marks she had left on herself was.

"Not a bad run at all," She muttered softly to herself, rubbing the necklace - her weapon's unsummoned form - around her neck, "We should do it again some day."
