Sun Hunter SHADOW RUN General Information The Shadow Run is both the simplest and most dangerous training course that can be run without a golem. A flurry of continuous attacks is what the Sun Division holds in highest respect, and the course reflects that. The course itself is a simple tunnel, reached via portal. Within the tunnel await hundreds of weak, hungry shadowlings. Nothing to worry about on their own, but capable of overwhelming a Hunter through sheer numbers at the first moment of weakness. At the other end of the tunnel is another portal, leading back to the course observation booth.
If you fail: your character is KO'd, but there's always a senior hunter in the observation booth with enhanced bandages at the ready. They should reach you in time. Really. Trained and trusty professionals on-hand 24/7.
If you win: peen points and bragging rights to those who take out the greatest number of shadowlings and go the most turns without needing to attempt a recovery maneuver.
Mechanics You must get through 5 waves of attacks to make it through the tunnel. Simply roll for attack as you would in battle. If you miss, your character falters in their attacking and is overwhelmed by shadowlings. After 3 successful hits, you may use your weapon's charge attack.
Bonus Mechanics This bonus is consumable. The bonus in this course is in the form of "recoveries" ~ these are would-be missed attacks that are quickly recovered and turned into a successful hit. Basically, they can miss once and roll again for an extra try. If you keep consecutively missing, though, and run out of recoveries, it's lights out. These do not equal an automatic pass for a round, you still have to land a successful hit to proceed.

Infinity curled her fingers more tightly around the sias swords she held. Okay. They could do this. She could do this. Maybe. At least there weren't going to be any Yeti's to explode on her.
:: Stop over-thinking this so much, precious. Lets just give this a go! :: Vashi was in a shockingly serious mood today. But he knew as much as Fini herself did that the two of them needed more practice. :: I'm ready to go when you are. ::
"Okay. Okay..." Taking a deep breath, she stopped dillydallying around and ran forward. The first shadowling that crossed her path, she sliced at with one sais, putting a foot firmly down to twist around with a follow up and bring the second sais swining in an upper cut.
:: Good, good. Watch your back. And left side! ::

She ducked as what may have been a clawed hand - or just a blob of shadow - swept at her head as another wave came at her. Rolling to her feet, Fini stabbed a shadowling with a sais, an elbow jamming into a second while she kicked the first as hard as she could.
:: Precious, drop down! ::
Fini only hesitated for a second or two. But it was enough to feel the air from the swipe that almost got the back of her head. Her hair swished and she was positive that several strands had been lost.
"Fuuuuck."
:: I told you to drop down. :: Vashi stated with mild exasperation.
"Shut up!" She had ducked. After a very minor debate on if it was wise or not.
:: You're going to have to give me a little more faith then that. Geez. It's not like I asked you to marry me or anything. ::
If she could argue, she would have. But between the shadowlings and the truth of those words (...most of them anyways)? Fini wisely chose to keep her mouth shut. For now. And there happened to be a convenient creature to slash at right there...

Her heart was beating rapidly, breathing a little rough. And her head was beginning to pound. But they'd made it through two waves! Even if they were to fail the next one, Fini was not so arrogant enough to not take that small victory for what it was. She and Vashi were learning. That was what was really important here.
:: Though surviving all waves would be fantastic too, don't you agree? Bragging rights and all that. :: Vashi's sinister voice rumbled pleasantly through her mind.
"Maybe next time."
:: They come. All sides. Front few are slowest. ::
This time, Fini didn't hesitate as much, charging the front shadowlings. She swung her sais, kicked with her feet, and punched them wherever she could land a hit. Probably not the best way to fight, but damnit! That was why she was running this course! To learn to fight better.
Something slammed into her from behind, staggering her. Twisting, she brought her fist down upon it. Only to get growled at by Vashi as something came rapidly towards her from the front. Without even questioning it, Fini put all faith in her weapon and attacked the onslaught. And when she took a moment to breathe and look around, she was shocked.
:: That is what we are capable of doing when working together, precious. :: Vash murmured in a proud tone.

Alright she was definitely feeling some pain now. But damnit, she was not going to let up just yet! Not when they were doing well. Though Fini wasn't quite as excited by the fact they had two waves more to survive and they cleared the field as Vashi was. No, she was still in minor shock at how she and Vashi had worked together during the last wave.
"It's that simple?" She asked heavily, wiping strands of silver hair out of her face.
:: It's that simple, love. Just have to give me a little trust. :: He practically purred and was he glowing?! :: Mmmmm yes, precious I am. I'm quite charged and ready to do some real damage. When you're ready of course. ::
"What does-" Oh wait. He meant he'd gathered enough Fear, right? The affirmative mental nod from Vashi answered that. A warning growl was her only heads up as a shadowling lunged at her. Fini dropped to the ground, smashing her fingers since she refused to let go of her weapons. Getting to her feet quickly - a few curses thrown in for good measure - she prepared herself for the next attack. It came, she blocked then countered and punched the creature in the face.
:: Are you ready, Infinity precious? :: Vashi sounded more sinister and dark. She'd only heard him sound that way once before.
"Ready....for...what?" She got out in between swipes and hits.
:: For me to show you what I can do. With your help, of course. ::
Fini paused, swallowed and firmly planted her feet. :: Remember what I told you before? :: Yes. She did. Surprisingly, since she tended to ignore the vârcolac when he was being extra annoying. Gripping both sais tightly, she carefully (or as careful as one in the middle of a battle could accomplish) crossed her blades. The blades began to glow brightly and when she heard a howl reverberate within her mind, Fini dragged them apart forcefully. A bright flash of energy was thrust towards the shadowlings closing in, knocking Fini on her a**.
"Holy s**t!" She gasped, staring. Vashi just preened proudly as the glowing sais blades dimmed until they were back to normal.
:: I believe, that is another wave defeated? ::

Her shoulder was hurting from a well placed attack. And her breathing was rough now. But she had not once dropped Vashi. And she was learning that the smartass actually knew his stuff.
:: And you doubted me? :: He snorted in indignation.
"Oh hush. We still...have another wave to get through." And they were coming. Fini moved herself into an offensive position. At Vashi's growl, she attacked the first shadowlings within range.
:: Keep it up, precious. You're doing splendidly. ::
She kept at it, blocking, attacking, counterattacking. She felt dull pains appear where she wasn't fast enough. But there was no second guessing Vashi again. Not this battle. It wasn't full trust, not yet. But it was a start. And then surprise came when no more shadowlings came at her. Her head was pounding and there were definitely some new bruises forming.
"We...We did it!" Fini breathed, a smile slowly creeping along her lips. "Vashi you were amazing."
The rumble that vibrated through her mind was full of nothing but pride. And for once, not just in himself. :: I am proud of you, precious. :: He crooned in a deep voice. Fini just smiled. Maybe they would be an awesome pair after all!
