Festival of Growth ( 成長の祭り ):
Each year when the spring warmth comes to the mountains in the Land of Lightning the snow retreats to the high peaks allowing the plants and animals to regain lost land. The snow melt turns small creeks into might rivers as it flows down hill towards the ocean. It is during this time that those who survived yet another harsh winter take time to rejoice and pray. People ask for a continuation of good health, a good harvest in the fall, luck, to keep their loved ones away from harm and many other things. They ask these things of many different patrons though each person only presents an offering to their own chosen being. Two of the most common deities among people of Kumogakure are Inari, the goddess of fertility, rice, agriculture, foxes, industry and worldly success, and Raijin, the god of lightning, thunder and storms. Though some people prefer the more practical approach of an offering the Daimyo or the Raikage.

Within Kumogakure at the Sandaa estate complex a festival is held every year. All of the village's citizens are invited and welcome to come to the festival. There are carnival games, fresh food, and other types of vendors present. The most important place though is the shrine that the Sandaa maintain to Raijin. Within the shrine the alter normally dedicated to Raijin is moved to the center of the temple and left bare. This allows anyone to make an offering to anyone. So enjoy the festivities and don't forgot to make an offering.

Since she was a little girl Ten'nyo had always loved the annual spring festival. The food was great, the games, were fun, and she always had a great time. This year was special, unique from all the previous years, because this time she had prepared her own offering in the hopes of her own spring time growth. Last night she had spent hours preparing her offering. I really hope she likes it. the girl thought to herself as she ignored the the various festival stands. In her hands Ten'nyo held a bento box containing her prayer, and Inari-zushi. The particular piece of food that she had prepared consisted of fried tofu in roll that had two points resembling fox ears. When she reached the shrine Ten'nyo gently kicked off her shoes and then stepped into the interior. She slowly approached the alter with great care. Upon reaching it she bowed, gift outstretched, and held the position for a few seconds while she silently prayed. Oh, lady Inari... I um don't really know how to put this... but... um... if it's not too much trouble... as I'm growing up.. please... bless me.. with... well... big beautiful... breasts. With that she gently placed the offering onto the alter, bowed again, and then left the shrine.

Gods were such an interesting concept to Odin. The idea that a single being could represents more than a simple human. The idea that they could come and go in many forms. The otherworldly power they held. The small boy looked down at his offering. It was a paper lantern painted to look like a field of rice filled with foxes. Every Spring Odin's father would take him to the festival to pray to Inari. Old superstition would claim not enough people respected the gods, and that is what brought upon the avalanche. Gently Odin paced the lantern at the base of the shrine. Bowing in prayer Odin began his silent wish. Lady Inari, as spring comes againt, I pray to you, bless my father and his work, and help me as I grow to be like the fox of which you represent: clever, quick, tricky. Odin stood up thanked Inari and left as quietly as he had come.

With a hand incased in his fathers, Ruan was guided through the the packed streets. So many from the cities and towns surrounding the hidden village have come to give thanks for another passing winter. The young boy was enthralled in all of the excitement. Tatsu, on the other hand, seemed to have one task on his mind. The Yi men soon arrived to their destination, the large building Sandaa call their own. In the middle of their large complex was a shrine that held gifts to the god's and goddesses praised in Kumogakure.

"Go on son, present our offering", Tatsu said to Ruan. With a nod, Ruan scurried to the shrine and placed a beautifully decorated package amongst the others. After placing it delicately with the others, Ruan bowed his head in respect. 'Thank you, very much for this past year. I pray you continue to watch over our humble village and protect those who are in need.' Ruan lifted his head and ran back to his father. Tatsu smiled, "Now, lets go get some of this food!" A grin grew on the boys face as he jumped on his father's back and left to enjoy the festival.

The warmth of spring was like a life was renewed where the snow previously was. Gyou felt immense happiness when the feeling of life radiated throughout the village. Considering the village's history, it's remarkable that they could still celebrate through all their adversity. He paced a few feet from the shrine, waffling whether he should make an offering or not. Whatever he had to pray for, it had to be worth it to bring it up to the gods. After several minutes of contemplating his prayer he decided he was ready and might as well go ahead and make the offering. Gyou walked to the shrine and reached inside his pocket. Taking out a small book which was one of his favorites and left behind by his oldest brother, he placed it with the rest of the offerings. He bowed his head and clasped his hands together. ' Uhm.. I hope you're listening.. I haven't done much in the faith department.. But I wanted to take a chance while I had it.. If it's possible.. I want help being brought to my full potential.. My father and my family.. I want to be worthy of living after that incident.. Help make me stronger.. ' After the hesitant prayer, Gyou unclasped his hands and went to enjoy the rest of the thriving festival.

It was Masaaki's favorite time of year, the Festival of Growth. Every year, people from all around the village came to the Sandaa compound, to enjoy the carnival games, potluck meals and of course bring offerings to the gods for another year of happiness and fortune. Of course in years past Masaaki didn't pay much attention to the offerings; he would much rather play as many games as he could with his friends, and chow down on the delicious food. This year would be the first that Masaaki made an offering, and until this point had wondered if he was going about it right. In his hands, the boy held a binto box of food his mother helped prepare.

"I hope Raijin likes rice balls..."

Down the street the boy walked, his eyes darting about all the games, food and decoration. The offering was the first thing he would participate in for the festival, but he still could not help but let his mind wander, and think about all the fun the Festival of Growth would bring the boy this year.

Suddenly, Masaaki's stomach growled, and he realized that all the delicious food around him was making the boy hungry. "Not now tummy, we have to drop this off at the shrine," the boy thought to himself, and suppressed the hunger in his stomach. At last he entered the shrine that housed the alter, looked around and sighed in relief. At least if he messed up his offering, no one else would be around to see it. Tentatively, Masaaki placed the box down on the alter, knelt down, and closed his eyes.

"Hi Rainin. I'm sorry if I was supposed to bring you food before, I didn't know. I'm kinda new at this. Anyways, thanks for the good health and stuff, oh and the pros... prosper... " The boy opened his eyes and looked down at a card he pulled from his pocket. Reading the enunciation off the card, he continued. "Oh prosperity. Yea, thanks. So um, I was wondering, if it's not too much trouble, could you bring me a REAL kunai this year, now that I'm gonna be a shinobi? If not that's okay, thanks anyways."

With that the boy rose from his kneeling position and departed the shrine, running off to go enjoy the festival. Before he left, on top of the binto box, he left his favorite toy, a personalized offering to the gods.

It was that time of year again. Festivity was in the air. People were taking the luxury of relaxing a bit and being extremely happy. Kids loved this time of year. Shino was no exception. Even as a shinobi in training she did enjoy the pleasures in life when they were there. Best to take advantage of them before they were gone, besides there were a couple things she wanted to ask of the gods. Holding onto her offering like she were protecting some precious item she made her way to the shrine. Placing it down gently she kept it wrapping in the cloth. The only one who needed to see it were the gods. Being almighty like they were she doubted it needed to be unwrapped for them to see. Getting down on her knees the small female put her hands together in front of her face and said her pray. Please gods, bless me so that I may see the path I must trend to reach my goal to becoming a great shinobi. Help me find the strength to endure the trails of life to the best of my ability. Having said it all she slowly stood up and walked out of the shrine allowing others to enter and do the same.
