Nanette had to go out for a walk this morning, to clear her head of any bad thoughts about her mother. Her mother was clearly trying to do what was best for her daughter, but sending her away was hardly what was best right now. Her father had just died and it was scary to think that she would be forced to leave her mother because she wasn't able to support her. She often thought of getting a job to help her mother with debts and food, but she wouldn't allow it. It was ridiculous. She sighed to herself, thinking that maybe her mother just really wanted her gone.

The wind started to pick up, blowing through her hair. She reached to pull it back as she heard footsteps behind her.

She turned around to see, her heart in a panic because no one should be on this road. It's a forest road, and not many people travel on this to get to the next town.

She pushed my hair slightly behind her ear and stared at the ground, watching her feet nervously as she continued walking. The steps never faultered, her heart raced even more so within her chest.

"Please!" she cried out of fear, turning around,"who's out there? What do you want from me?"

She reached into her knapsack and threw some coins onto the dirt road. "This is all I have just take it and go. I am no use to you!"

In a state of fright she turned around again and started running down the dirt path. Dust and rocked flew out from under her feet as she ran, her breathing drowning out the stranger's footsteps.

She rounded a small turn and tripped onto the ground, landing on her hands and knees, gravel digging into her hands, realizing that somehow, she went off the road. This wasn't the same road she'd remember. It's a gravel road now...not a dirt path.

She looked ahead of her, and her breathing stopped altogether. There in front of her was a huge mansion. Towering almost menicingly over the gate that guarded it. She looked up at it, terror in her eyes.
"Oh God. Where have I gone??" she whimpered to myself.

The footsteps though, she had forgot about, but were closing in on her quickly.

It was Nathaniel's duty to serve the demons who resided in the mansion. As an underling, he had to do what he was told, not that he enjoyed that. Out of all the demons who lived in the mansion Nathan was one who hated obeying his superiors the most. He would much rather spend his days toying with the little humans that dared roam around the mansion, then do what he was told. Humans, yes, they were so fun! So very interesting! Or at least that's what Nathan thought, it had always been his dream to capture one.

Though the other demons were allowed to leave the mansion, coming and going as they pleased, Nathan was not so lucky. His superiors refused to even let him go outside! What made them think he was any less of a demon than they were? Sure he didn't really look like a demon. He didn't have that demonic sort of look, that grotesque appearance, actually Nathan looked fairly human. Other than his bright red eyes, with the strange marking underneath Nathan looked like any regular human. Was that why the other demons looked down on him? Because he looked human? It wasn't fair.

Today it seemed that most of the demons of the house were, for the most part, ignoring him. What a perfect opportunity it had been! Yes, sneaking out of the house, today, would be quite easy. Nathaniel had done it before, on the right days it was simple. On other days, well, he had gotten caught. He didn't understand why the other demons did not allow him to leave the mansion, he looked more human than them. It would be easier for him to walk amongst the humans. Maybe they thought he was just some ignorant underling, like the rest of them. Those that always obeyed, they were the ignorant ones.

After sneaking out of the mansion, Nathaniel had no trouble finding the perfect little human. His first plan had been to sneak out and come back with a human to present to one of the more powerful demons. Now that he thought about it, Nathan would rather keep a human he caught all to himself. It wasn't like he was going to kill the thing. No, humans were much too interesting to be wasted like that. Other demons would murder humans, they were irresponsible. Nathaniel would keep the human alive, maybe to ask it questions? He wasn't sure, he had never been given the opportunity to talk with one, he had only seen them at a distance.

The human he had found was walking on a road close by the mansion. He was trying to keep as quiet as he could, but somehow he startled the fragile thing or rather it had been alerted of his presence. That's when Nathan saw the shiny things it threw. Did all humans throw these things when frightened? It would have to be a question he'd have to ask. The human bolted and before Nathaniel chased after it, he picked the coins from the ground. Luckily enough the human ran towards the mansion! Where the little thing fell, "Aww poor little ignorant human, doesn't know where she is,"Nathan taunted walking up behind her, "Is the little thing lost?,"crouching in front of her, Nathan tilted his head to the side. His face displaying a faked frown, which quickly turned into a wide grin. He lifted his hand up, placing his own thumb into his mouth before biting down hard enough to draw blood. Nathaniel loved the taste of blood, not that he was some sort of vampire, he just liked the taste was all. Plus the pain that came along with it was thrilling. He was especially thrilled to finally be this close to a human.

Nanette looked up at the strange being, looking straight into his eyes with fear. The glowing red hooked her stare and she couldn't turn away. Fear and curiousity struck her as she looked into his eyes.

"You're eyes..." she whispered quietly, "they are so red..."

She had felt like an idiot mumbling to him. His strange features and eyes threw her off. Was he a friend or foe?

He had taken her coins, she could see them in his hand. He took her money so he probably wanted more from her. She quickly bowed her head down, shaking as she covered her eyes. "Please just go. I don't have anything to give you. Please. I was just on my way to the next town. I-I got lost. Please. Please just let me be,"

She started to breath quickly, now realizing the real fear that was to come from this situation. She waited quietly, only the wind and the man biting his thumb disturbing the silence.

She looked to the side, hesitating and thinking on weither she should run or not. Could he catch up to her? Where could she go? The mansion gates were open but, he could catch her there. It was a chance she would have to take. She slowly got up from the gravel, staring into his eyes for a brief moment, and darted towards the mansion, crying out in fear from the man behind her.

Really? His eyes? Nathaniel never found them that special. Of course strangely colored eyes, among other things, were normal for demons. Nathan had seen the human look at the coins in his hand, were they special to her? Well, they couldn't be that special if she had thrown them on the ground! He sure wasn't going to give them back, he liked the weight in his hand and they way they shined in the light. What really surprised him was when the girl ran off again, he was more surprised when she ran right into the mansion, "Huh, well that was easy!," he laughed, almost manically.

Nathan was a tall demon, his legs long, plus he was extremely agile. It really didn't take him long to catch up to the girl. He caught her by the shoulder in the foyer of the mansion. Twisting her around and pinning her to a wall by holding her shoulder down, "Your not that scared of me are you?," he raised an eyebrow, lifting his hand up to caress her cheek with his bloody thumb, "You should be more scared of them," Nathaniel removed his hand from her face and pointed up to the ceiling allowing the girl to listen to the strange noises coming from the mansion. The demons were a rowdy bunch and many of them had already dragged a poor human in to the mansion. Most of them feeding or doing whatever they pleased with the fragile things.

So far Nathaniel found that he hadn't been that scary or mean with the girl. Not as mean as the other demons would have been. Though he could tell he was being slightly creepy. Not that he cared, all he wanted was his questions answered. If she decided she didn't want to do that for him, well, he would definitely have to kill her then, wouldn't he? Nathan couldn't just let her leave now. It wasn't like she had seen any secrets yet, but still humans could make up tons of crazy stories and the demons never really wanted those spread around. Not that anyone would believe these stories.

She looked at him with fright, her heart pounding within her chest. Adrenaline poured through her body as he smiled at her. The smell of dust and blood hit her hard as he placed his hand on her cheek.

"There a-are others here?" she whispered almost to herself. The man was right though, sounds of laughter and anger came from the upper floors of the mansion. The roars could almost send shivers up her spine. Even though they were laughing, it was almost...an errie noise. Almost like they found something hideously horrible...funny.

Then a loud scream came from the upper floor. Her eyes grew wide as she stared at the man, tears starting to form. She willed herself not to cry in front of her capturer but she couldn't help herself.

Her legs began to shake as the scream began to increase into a cry of agony. It sounded like a woman...and in the background...men laughing.

Her legs gave out from under her, landing on her knees, her back against the dusty wall. She looked up at the strange, red-eyed man with sorrow in her stare. "P-please sir. Please...just let me go home..." she sobbed. She couldn't bear to look at the stranger anymore. Nanette buried her face into her hands and sobbed. Her body shook with fear and agony.

Whatever had happened upstairs she was sure was going to happen to her as well. In the movies, she knew that kidnappers never let their prey go, especially when they begged. So why was she begging? It was almost an instinct to beg for her life. Nanette always treasured happiness and loved everyone she had met. Now in the face of death, she was so terrified she had no idea what to do...but cry.

The noises of the mansion, the laughter, the roars, and even the screams of agony, Nathaniel was used to it all. But there was one noise that he hated more than anything. That was the sound of someone crying. What a pitiful sound! It showed weakness, plus people looked plain stupid while doing it. What was the point of crying? Would it help anything? Of course not! Nothing could be accomplished if one just sat there and cried. It was idiotic for anyone to think crying of all things would solve a problem, "Would you stop?," Nate hissed through his teeth, this girl had begun to cry in the most annoying way. She even went through the whole act of falling to her knees and burying her face in her hands. Even the begging for her life! It was ridiculous! What had Nathan done to her? Nothing!

Nathaniel knelt down in front of her, placing his hand together and interlocking his fingers, "Look, I'm not going to hurt you," he paused before continuing, "I just want to ask you a few questions, that's all," quickly Nate pulled the coins the girl had thrown earlier out of his pocket, where he had placed them, "Like, what are these?," he said jingling the coins in front of her, hoping to get her to lift her head again. He decided not to lie to her and say that after a few questions she would be able to leave. Because the truth was, she probably would never leave the mansion again. It would have been a sad thought for her to know, but for Nathan, it was a happy thought! He would finally be able to boss someone around. After years of having to listen to his superiors Nate could finally have control over someone! He only hoped that one of the older demons didn't take interest in the little human. If they did, well, there really wouldn't be much he could do. He'd have to hand her over. Maybe she could be a little secret?

She looked up at him, tears falling from her chin and her eyes swollen from sobbing. "What? The coins?" she questioned stupidly,"you have no idea what coins are?"

This to her was ridiculous. This cult, this mansion of insane men were human were they not? How long could they have gone without knowing anything from the oustide world? Have they lived in this mansion their whole life? Away from civilization? Away from time?

Nanette looked up into his eyes as he leaned down to her. He looked sincere. He looked like he really had no clue what they were.

Nanette thought to herself a moment, looking away from him and down at the remainder of the hall they were in. If he just wanted to ask questions, that didn't make him the bad guy did it? After she answered his stupid questions on her world, she could leave couldn't she? She had to try.

"T-those are coins. Like...m-money to pay with for items you need or want?" she said hesitating a bit. She looked back up at the man, looking back into his red eyes. "Can I please leave? I answered your question. I want to go home..." she trailed off silently. Almost praying that the man had pity on her, and would set her free.
