One week had passed, the surrounding world did not appear to be altered by the change in time, but the lone mocha colored female felt the change in her heart. The passing of time gave her continuous elation as she counted down the days until she would lay her bright green eyes upon him again; just the thought of him quickened her heart and sent butterflies to her stomach. As she prepared for her trip, gathering supplies and asking Alma to watch over her mother, her mind kept straying to Lucian who sent her blood ablaze.
Now she stood, alone in the dark, at the designated time that the two of them had promised a week before; the landscape appeared the same as where she met Lucian last week, but the tiny mare could not be sure. Quickly she pushed the thought from her mind; he would find her no matter what. With a smile on her countenance she waited for the pale stallion with the silent steps of a hunter to walk through the trees and say in his rich luscious voice, a hello that would send shivers down her spine.

A week can feel an eternity. A week. One solitary week...but when you're away from someone you care about, it might as well be a thousand years. Absence does make the heart grow fonder, the emotions much deeper and yet so close to the surface. How much love can feel like pain... Over the week, Lucian had been unable to stop thinking about her. Unable to get the thought of her luminous eyes out of his mind...unable to forget the heady smell of her blood. He had been unable to stop thinking of that night and how he had fallen for her so quickly. He stood there waiting, a day earlier. He didn't want to miss her. He couldn't miss her. He needed her so desperately. He needed to see that she was really real.

Cold fingers of dread trickled down Anaon’s spine, he was not coming. With the arrival of the first rays of light of dawn, an array of conflicting emotions filtered across the mocha colored mare’s mind: Anger, Sadness, Embarrassment, and Confusion. Her thoughts returned to that dusky evening when Lucian and she shared their blood and so much more. Was she wrong? Did he not feel the same as her and just pretended to be interested in her for some twisted kind of sport? No. Lucian would not do that, Anaon was confident in that assertion.
She looked out with her worried bright green eyes to the brightness of the new day, willing them to see the white coat that belonged to the stallion who set her blood on fire and made her heart soar. But the day continued to move as if nothing was amiss; the sun rose higher in the sky and the birds sang their cheerful tune, unaware of the tornado of torment the mocha colored mare felt deep inside. No one came into view; crestfallen the mare stood alone on shaking legs with silent tears trailing down her checks. A sharp pain pierced the mare’s chest. He really did not love her. “Lucian…” his name came out half as a whisper and half as a sob, “Why?”

Lucian couldn't stop his pulse. His heart was throbbing more and more painfully as he waited for Anaon to show up. He missed her so dreadfully, he wanted to see her--taste her blood, see her beautiful eyes...He couldn't get her out of his mind. He'd keep waiting for her.
But what if she had forgotten about him? What if she was delayed or hurt? What if she wasn't coming? What if she had decided that she didn't want to do this? How long would he wait? How long should he wait for her?
His heart kept beating harder and harder. She would come? She had to come...But what if she didn't? He loved her. They'd felt something, it had to be real. He would wait for her.

She had to leave, time was of the essence and Isaac was waiting for her, they were to begin their journey as soon as she left Lucian. How long had she been waiting for Lucian? Hours, days, weeks? She knew that it could not be weeks, since Isaac would have come to receive her if she spent more than three days waiting, yearning, for the stallion who set her blood on fire. The pain in her chest was unbearable, so this is what a broken heart feels like; she had seen what a saddened heart did to her mother. Anaon Nox did not want to suffer the same depressing fate; how long did it take for mother to finally stop yearning for Nightmare? Too long, Anaon could not let herself suffer at the hoof of a stallion. He did not love her, which was obvious, since he was nowhere to be seen. With one last look at the meeting place, she locked up what was left of her heart and set her sights toward the dry lifeless desert, feeling a sense of camaraderie with the desiccated wastelands.

She's not coming.
She doesn't really love you.
She's disgusted with you.
They were back now in the silence. The heavens rumbled and poured forth their tears as he stood there trying to push the voices back. It wasn't working. He kept looking for Anaon expectantly, but she wasn't there. She really wasn't coming.
Days passed, maybe years. He didn't know anymore as he started to shiver in the cold rain. She really wasn't coming. Could they be right? Or was she hurt? Was she dead?
His tears were indistinguishable from the rain. Finally, like a dark shadow he turned away. She didn't love him, or she couldn't love him. The storm around him was nothing compared to the storm in his soul.
