Organizing a role play alone can be a tough job. If you want to help out please do. You can help out by sharing some of your ideas. If I do use any of your suggestions, you will be accredited for it. Right now I could use a hand with pretty much everything. So please don't be shy and post away.

Well, we already discussed a few ideas via PM, so I'll leave those on the down-low, but I was thinking; we're going to be in a major city, right? I think I recall reading something like that.

If not, what kind of setting are we looking for?

I mentioned to someone that I was thinking about creating the story in the city of San Diego since I live there and I'm familiar with the area but I thought maybe I'd go with a fictitious place.

Fictitious would work better, but you could base it on real places. That way somebody could bring something they know from wherever they live.

      (but I'm probably biased since all I know about San Diego is that it's warm)

      How is the zombie virus gonna be spread. Airborne with our players as some of the few resistant people, or just spread through blood?

I'll stick with fictitious then. San Diego is a very fun city and yes it has very warm days even in the winter but it can get pretty chilly and even cold in the evenings. Hmm I don't know if I should say how the virus is going to be spread. I've already discussed it with a few people.

Another thing we should address is character equipment restrictions. Seeing as we're focusing on some realism, gonna be unlikely that there'll be a guy walking around with three shovels, or a functional samurai sword.

Yes, I,m definitely not allowing that nor will obtaining weapons be that simple. Especially restrictions with each type of character. If someone decided that they want to be a high school student they won't be carrying a gun and twenty grenades. I'm not going to be a weapon nazi but at the same time I intend on keeping them controlled. I've already decided that I will be in charge of that. I definitely don't expect every single person with weapons as that's not realistic And what I mean at least at the beginning of the roleplay as it will be based on the normal world as we live it today. It's not like we really are expecting a zombie to come breaking down our doors. I know I don't have grenades or a bazooka in my house. Nor do I know anyone personally that has them.

Civilian legal firearms are restricted to semi-automatic rifles, shotguns and handguns as well, so nobody's gonna have a super chaingun set to rock n roll, either. xD

If we're going with a big city, then the people coming from that area probably have restrictions on bladed weapons, so kitchen knives and the like.

Making the virus airborne would make it too lethal and limit character options severely (not everyone can be immune or resistant). I suggest we make the virus transmissible via direct contact, but limit its surface life to mere minutes or even seconds outside the host's body (as is the case with most viruses). That would make it contagious enough to give everyone real reason to worry, but at the same time not make it so contagious that we all start dropping like flies or becoming zombified at the first violent encounter with zombies.

The availability of explosives (rockets, missiles, rifle-grenades, etc) should also be strictly-limited due not only to real-world restrictions, but also due to potential for abuse in an RP setting. However, incendiaries such as molotovs, thermite, or WP could be more readily available if one knows where to get them (or produce them in the case of molotovs, which are dirt-simple if you know what you're doing). Those are more difficult to abuse, but there should still be limits on the number one can acquire or carry.

Yes a person definitely wouldn't be able to carry an absorbent amount of items. There will be a penalty for the amount of items you are carrying. It will definitely slow your character down. In fact, when we begin to roleplay, somewhere in everyone's post there should be a list of the items they are carrying, with details of how much it weighs and how much ammo your holding and be able to keep track of it.

Yeah, anyone can make a molotov--provided they've seen movies or play games, or are some sort of crazy survivalist. For example, a ten year old rich girl probably isn't going to know how to put that kind of thing together.

But yeah, I think the majority of "weapons" are going to be baseball bats, rakes, maybe a cleaver. Of course, those things can break.

Of course. A reasonable load-out is a given for everyone. Carry too much and you'll be seriously slowed or immobile, something that can easily turn fatal in any dangerous or combat situation. Everyone should be made aware of that in the rules section if there is one.

Also, one thing you might want to emphasize in the rules is that STUPIDITY will get your character seriously hurt or killed. We had a problem with someone fooling around repeatedly in one of the last RP's I participated in and he actually tried facing a Mi-24 Hind gunship with a handgun in the middle of an abandoned street. You can guess what happened to him....
