Candace had been slacking. Aria was right, how much time did she spend doing nothing? She needed to train harder, to do more tasks, to do more duties than she had already been doing. Training for her lately had been all fighting, all figuring out how to use her weapon, but she was a Mist she needed to do all the things. She was not a Sun hunter trainee, she had to do more than fight. What else could she do? She could never find Caelius to ask him for an intel-gathering mission, there was no way in hell she was going to Julie for Moon training, Clarice was busy and she knew if she went to H for training she'd get terribly distracted. He was...he was a very distracting man in the best and worst ways. Candace shivered a little as she walked out her door and across the hall. She had decided she'd play a little bit of Life without Clarice and H. Minipet lab duty. She could check on Killer and say hi to her...nineteen..floresce...
...Why did she think nineteen of those ******** was a good idea.
She stopped in front of room 115, knocking the door and desperately hoping Cass was in her room.
Preferably alone.
She liked the girl and all but being around lovey dovey couples made her want to cry and made her heart hurt. She wanted to be that way again..it was fun.
Ugh! Stop thinking about it! Candace sighed and ruffled her own hair. "Hey, Cass? You busy? Thought I'd invite you to minipet lab duty with me."

Cass had woken up early to go on a run with Leon. Which for 'early' meant before the sun even thought it was a reasonable hour to be awake. Doing so had thrown her entire schedule off. Running, some training with the dummies, a failed round of the life trial..... she'd exhausted herself far too early and had retired to take a nap. A nap she was about 5 minutes into when Nicodemus pipped up for her.

A very distinct thud could be heard as Cass rolled off of her bed and hit the floor, stumbling to get up and wiping her eyes a bit. She didn't look entirely tired yet, she'd only laid down for a moment, after all. But she still looked worn from her early morning adventure with Big-Bro-Leon. Opening the door, Cass put on her best smile. "Yep, I'm in." she answered, ruffling the back of her hair.
Might as well go for it. Stay up and then you'll be too tired for later.

That you spend too much time with that boil of yours. She made a half face, eyes looking up towards her left temple as she had the exchange.
"Lab duty sounds fine to me, Candace. I could use something to do beside just sleep right now, and I haven't touched the..minipets....." It was a weird term to say out loud, "In a while."

There was a thud and Candace just stared blankly at the door. Was everything in there okay? Candace tried to doorknob and found it unlocked; if Cass took more than five minutes to answer the door she'd go in there and check on her. Luckily Cass answered the door before she had to take that measure.
"I see that. You okay?" She frowned. Besides just sleep? "That sounds like a good idea...let's go, then." Assuming she was ready to go, that is.
Candace's player is tired don't judge her.

"Yeah, I've just been up since like...five..four..?Early......" Cass trailed off with a yawn, stretching as she stepped out into the hallway and pulling the door closed behind her. Even if she didn't lock the door behind her. It was fine, nobody would find anything worth stealing from her in there...because all the good stuff was kept in another room entirely.
Two rooms to stash her stuff in? Talk about relationship status.
"Now, shall we~?" she made a dramatic hand-swooshing motion before she started walking to start heading towards the Life Labs.

Candace kind of just stared at first. Four or five in the morning? Why?! There weren't any big missions today! What would compel someone to wake up that ******** early? But if Cass was ready to just go..they'd go. If she proved to be too tired she was okay with carrying her back to her room or something; Cass didn't seem terribly heavy, certainly not as heavy as Rep had been. He'd nearly killed her with dead weight.
She smiled and nodded as Cass dramatically gestured for them to leave, slipping her hands into the pockets of her coat and following alongside her. "Let's. I haven't done minipet duty yet...I think the last time I dealt with minipets was that festival. I came back with nineteen floresce...I wonder if any of them were kept." Why nineteen? It'd seemed like a good idea at the time. Have all of them. ALL OF THEM. But she was just short of that twenty.
"You know, I don't think we've ever hung out before. Just you and I, I mean." Candace sounded a bit perplexed by that realization. They'd been here almost a whole year and not once had she spent any quality time with her fellow trainee!

"Nineteen? That's insane! I barely managed to get the three that the fake-Aria threatened my life over." she made a small face. She liked Aria, but that fake Aria had set her nerves off in a special way.
"I imagine from the sound of things that nothing actually uh..made it from then, though. Or else we would have been forced to come and label the cages and clean them all up every day because they were 'ours' or something." It was true to some extent. Yet at the same time, it was also possible that they'd been expected to do just that and whatever they'd brought back with them had been left to die.
Maybe.
However, Candace's observation made Cass nod. "Yeah, I tend to not get a lot of girl time, in all irony. Here we are in our mostly-girl division, and I spend most of my time with guys. I don't even consider myself to be un 'girly' either. I just..... surround myself with guys."
Baffling.

There was a smug grin at the way Cass reacted to that. "I don't half-a** things. My golem was a Kelpie, and I came across another Kelpie who was head over heels the moment he laid eyes on me. He did all the work, I just gave him praise and kisses and he won all the eggs for me. It was pretty great." She laughed, shaking her head. "Yeah, I much prefer the real Aria. She actually gives a damn about us." More than Candace realized until Lance explained just how compassionate she was to her Mists. Candace smiled fondly as she spoke of their leader, giving a shrug at Cass' theory about their minipets from the festival. Oh well! They'd find out when they found out. She did want to make sure Killer was doing okay, though. "Same, same. I mean...the men I've been hanging around have been for specific reasons and all but I seem to be surrounded by them at all points of the day. Don't get me wrong, I love men, but it's nice to have another lady around." Candace laughed, fixing her scarf a little as they walked. She wanted to spend more time with the Mists, hanging out with them and training with them instead of going at it all by herself. It wasn't long before they reached the Life labs and then finally.. Handlers must have prior approval for walkies. Behind its door are several large, well-lit rooms filled from floor to ceiling with glass tanks. In nearly every tank was a minipet, staring out with any number of expressions, from welcoming curiosity to vicious anger. The techs have been trying to make the tanks more comfortable or at least entertaining for the creatures. A scareon bats a small ball about, a floresce circles a tiny plastic castle, a burning wish sets a blanket on fire. Some attempts are obviously more successful than others.
The minipets are studies in various ways, two of which trainees participate in. First is feeding. The hunter labs have been stocking up on FEAR candies a great deal recently, and most of the minipets are on a set feeding schedule, which is adjust every so often. The second way is through interacting with the minipets. Basically just taking them out and playing with them inside the lab area. Minipets cannot be outside of their tanks for more than an hour at time, per day. Otherwise they begin to lose shape, eventually returning to unformed FEAR.
Losing a minipet due to negligence would be ill-advised. "Welp! Here we are." She grinned, opening the door for Cass.

"That's a good way to play it up! I mean, if you have an advantage, play it for sure." she laughed. "Better over than under." Er...in this case, anyways. She could think of a few situations where...... she needed to stop that train of thought or else she'd end up spending the entire trip trying to imagine scenarios where going under was better than over and it would turn into a montage of Indiana Jones films that had never been made.
Actually, that would have been really entertaining if she had the time to just sit in a corner and giggle at epic 'WE ARE GOING TO DIE <:CC' things.
"Oh, I went out running with Leon this morning and then we hit up the Gym. He's a good workout buddy if you ever need one - he got my a** into working form for sure. It's hard to think a year ago I couldn't even do a push up and I nearly broke my nose on the edge of a table trying to mimic him." she laughed. "But then there's always Marcus, big bro Bix, sometimes Jude, sometimes Davey and I spar, I try to keep an eye on Aleister 'cause he's my newbie...just stuff like that.." she tacked each boy off on her fingers as she continued to explain her thoughts.
"But at the rate I'm going, I'm gonna turn into a guy myself." she laughed, "Definitely need more girl time. Some girl's weekend out or something." She'd have to give up a weekend date with Marcus for it, but he'd probably like the results anyways. Hmm.
Stepping into the Lab, Cass made a small round to look at the signs, reading the instructions, and looking at some of the interior creatures with a small amount of fascination.
"Strange to think that these things are like pets." she noted, frowning lightly before she moved on to tap on the glass of the next one, causing the creature inside of it to spark, attempt to tackle the glass, then retreat back into the corner. "Feisty."

Ah, so that was why she was up so early. Candace hummed thoughtfully at Cass' recommendation of Leon, giving a little frown. She didn't like him, he was an immature a** who just blew things out of proportion whenever she saw him. No, he would not be a good workout buddy for her. Anyone but him. Though at Cass' comment about smacking her face against the table she couldn't not laugh, snorting and clamping a hand over her mouth to try and stop herself. "Oh god I remember that pfffft!" She hadn't laughed at the time but she would now. That had been a spectacular failure! "Yeah..we should get together and help with the Mists soon, too. Aria's been stressing herself out over us, I think. I've been spending a lot of time with her and Lance lately. She wishes you and I would get promoted faster so she doesn't have to worry about us." That may not have been the wording Aria had used, but Candace didn't have to tell Cass it had been Aria complaining she couldn't handle being a lead. Candace didn't believe her; she was doing just fine, and their division was not what she was saying it was.
"That'd be nice, I wonder if we could set it up to get clearance to go somewhere nice for that. Like regular women who go on trips to like...Mexico or Vegas for the weekend, you know? We have all these portals we can take to anywhere in the world. We could go somewhere really nice." But it was all a matter of getting the right clearance. Ugh. But hey if they could make this work it'd be fun! It actually was making Candace a little excited. Maybe they could ask Aria if it was possible for that. or Clarice, since it was Life who handled the portals and things like that, right? It was definitely worth looking into! They could say it was for like...preserving the sanity of their trainees so things like her stupid incident during Allan's mission didn't happen again.
As they walked in the first place Candace tried to find was the herpicorns, needing to make sure Killer was okay. Harrison had been so worried about him he'd texted her at an ungodly hour in the morning to get her help..with Julie. She didn't see them yet but it was only a matter of time. Candace chuckled and nodded as she approached another glass tank full of fluffy, colorful foxfires. They bounced like clouds and piled all over each other as they hurried to the side of the tank Candace was standing at, practically throwing themselves against it with excitement as they yipped and yapped and pawed at the glass. It made Candace's heart melt from sheer OH MY GOD ADORABLE! "OhmygodCasscomelookathowcutetheseareohmygoooooooood!" Candace squealed, tapping at the glass with a giggle.

Cass couldn't help but frown a little bit at the mention of Aria worrying about them. "Well, we'll do her proud and show her we can pull our weight too. Help her out with all the new mists we got recently." Including the fabled unicorns coming out of the ocean once the red bull (AKA Caelius) had been chased into the ocean. However it worked. Still, a few extra hands, some extra work.
She'd do it. She'd make Aria proud to have her. Cass was completely convinced of it.
Never the less, when Candace started to squeal at one of the tanks, Cass moved over to look inside of it, and nearly deteriorated into a similar fit of glee and coos. "ooohhhmmigooddd...they'relikepuppiesfffIalwayswantedapuppyfffffffpuppyyyyfffffffFFFFffffFFfFFfff."
It was probably a hilarious sight to any of the Life Personnel watching the two mists as they went about Minipet Duty via squealing at the little critters in the cages. Minipets were adorable, even if they were horrible abominations. At least as far as Cass was concerned. Except those ghosts. Those little ghosts made her angry in the same way the big ghosts made her angry.
"We're allowed to take these out and play with them, yes?" she asked, looking to Candace. Clearly, Cass wanted to play with the Foxfires.

Candace was very happy to hear Cass was on board with helping Aria out with the other Mist trainees. They were still trainees themselves but they were just as capable as everyone else. They'd been here nearly a year now, they should hopefully know a thing or two to help push the Mists along. Candace couldn't agree with Aria. Their division was not the lowest on the hierarchy, it was above the others. They could prove it. "We'll ease her worries and make her proud of us, yeah." Riiiiiight after minipet duty.
Because seriously.
Look at them! So cute so cute so CUTE! Atropos cackled in Candace's mind, thoroughly amused by both Candace and Cass' reactions to the minipets. Oh, this was rich. You two are like a couple of scarelings. Go look at the cute kittens, Candace. Foxfires are nice and all but the kittens seem more your speed.
Kittens?!
KITTENS! "OhmygodCasslookatthekittensohmygoooooood!" Candace squealed, looking into a tank with an assortment of...Vaisel Kittens? They were precious! Like real kittens but with strange colors and patterns! Ohhhhh look at the adorable little one with the blue and the stars and..so cute! "We are! For um..an hour! I'll keep a timer on my phone so we don't keep them out longer than that by accident, okay? Let's feed them before we take any out though.." They could play but they should go around feeding the minipets first, probably. It was a legit duty after all.
A legit duty with kittens and puppies oh my god.
