It had been a few days since the disastrous first thread fall - they had been hard days for everyone involved..not only was there was good deal of mourning still going but the wounded had to be looked after and the question of who could and would lead the next inevitable fall was still up in the air.
Mercy was trying hard not to think about such things however - she'd determined that when there wasn't anything to be done about a problem then it was best to work on the things you could help with and with her background in healing she could help the wounded with all the aftercare they would require in order to mend properly - and it was ever so important that they did, the Weyr and Pern would need all the dragonriders they could get now that thread had returned.
'I have told Kameth that you are coming to check on their wounds' Aerith told her as she made her way towards the blueriders Weyr. 'Thanks Aerith' Mercy responded thankfully as the weyr came into sight and she called out in greeting - even though Aerith had already foretold the occupants of their arrival, it was only polite.
"Hello!, Wykla, Kameth? Are you in?"

Healing was a slow process. Wykla was a bit restless, and Kameth even more so. They had been sitting idle for the several days after Threafall. Bored, she was regretting having to take it easy. To keep Kameth from over-extending himself, Wykla had a drudge bring her a soft movable bed and set it up near his wallow. At the moment she was stretched out on her belly on that bed.
Kameth lifted his head as the white bespoke to him. Mine, Aerith's comes. The blue rumbled softly. Wykla turned her head. "That's good. The numbweed needs to be refreshed." She sat up. "Boreal go meet Mercy." Her voice raised to be heard at the door, "in Kameth's weyr!"
The bronze chirped and popped between to hover at the entrance. Very shortly he was joined by the four females who cheeped and chirped at Mercy. Boreal scolded them mildly and started to fly back to his girl.

"Hey Boreal" Mercy greeted the bronze as he met her at the entrance only a few moments after she heard Wykla call out. It was a good thing that Aerith was keeping Sunny occupied at the moments else the gold would likely be here and adding to the commotion that was Wykla's fair of flits.
Following the tiny pack she made her way quickly to the blue dragons wallow. "Hey Wykla, Kameth" She greeted them as they came into view, rather glad to see that both of them were resting - some of the wounded were starting to get restless and it was becoming almost more of a chore to keep them from over exerting themselves then it was to tend to their wounds. It was good to see them feeling better of course but difficult to convince them that it was still better to keep activity to a minimum until they were fully healed. For most of them she'd started relenting and allowing them small bits of exercises. Today if Wykla and Kameth looked well perhaps she could let them do the same - it would be dull and disheartening she knew to be cooped up in a Weyr and morale at times like this was almost as important as physical health. Depressed sad people just didn't seem to heal as well or as quickly as those who were a bit more positive.
"How are you guys feeling today?"

Boreal trilled as the girl gave him a greeting. He was happy to see her. Kameth opened one eye lazily as Aerith's rider came walking in. He gave a soft snort in greeting.
"Other than bored stiff you mean?" She gave a smile to her friend to show she wasn't being serious. "Kameth doing well, but certainly eager to get out of the weyr. To be honest so am I. Even if its just sitting outside watching the others. I'm glad your here though. The numbweed is old and needs to be replaced. It's sharding impossible for me to get it onto my own back." Wykla made a face at her situation.
"How are the other riders doing?" She didn't hear much cooped up in her weyr.

"Can't really blame him for that" Mercy agreed with a smile towards the blue dragon "Can't blame either of you actually, I think I would go batty myself" She admitted before opening the jar of numbweed and pulling off the bandages that covered Wykla's back so that she could replace the pain numbing medication.
"Oh you know...some of them are complaining, some of them are whining, some of them are a bit depressed but most of them are healing and I expect that morale will improve as they are allowed to do more" She stated in a half joking - half serious manner. Dragonriders simply weren't used to sitting around doing nothing and most of them just didn't know how to handle all that down time.
"How is Kameth doing? The wound on his rump healing, the stitches in his wings might start to itch as they heal - you'll have to make sure he doesn't entice your flits to scratch at them to much..but if your back doesn't pull to much when you stand and he's not hurting to badly either I was thinking you guys could probably start taking some light walk's or at least get out in the sun a bit"

Wykla knew they had to heal before anything, but that didn't mean she liked it. She sucked in her breath as the bandages came off. With the numbweed's numbing powers waning it was still painful to remove the bandages. Obviously Mercy couldn't apply new until they had come off, so she just had to put up with it. Boreal landed on the edge of her bed and crooned at her.
"Silly boy, it's just for a moment." She still smiled at the faithful bronze. Cool relief came quickly as the whiterider slathered the stuff on. Wykla tried to glance behind her to watch Mercy, but quickly gave it up. "I bet some of them really complain." She laughed and rolled her eyes. "Tell them its their fault they weren't fast enough to dodge." She tried to make it into a joke.
"I think he's alright. I've got him telling me if it suddenly hurts or anything." She gave a nod. "Been trying to stretch it out gently so the scaring don't get too bad. Maybe I'll get one of my flits to put pads on their feet and rub in some lotion." They could help her just like they helped Kameth. It sounded funny, but it just might work.
"Really? I'd like that. These same walls are getting a bit much. Even if we could just go sit outside would be great." Wykla admitted. She was paler than she could ever remember being. Plus she hadn't had to watch people in days.

Knowing that Wykla's discomfort would ease as soon as the fresh numbweed was applied Mercy didn't waste much time in applying the fresh dose, she took only long enough to see how the wounds were healing before doing so. "Your backs looking much better" She assured the other girl - there would likely be scaring but that was almost a given when it came to thread but she didn't think there would be any long lasting problems with the muscles or anything, Kameth must have taken them between in good time - before the thread had had a chance to do some really horrible damage, damage like she had seen on some of the more seriously wounded among the riders.
Having applied the fresh numbweed she replaced the bandages so the healing wound's would stay clean. Infection was the biggest worry with most of the thread scored at this point. "Well if your feeling up to it I think you can probably start getting out and about as long as you take it easy and make sure not to lift anything overly heavy or twist around to much and pull on the wounds"

The girl hadn't realized how tense she'd been until the pain was gone and her muscles relaxed. She blessed whoever had found the plant and devised a way to make the ointment. "Thanks, it doesn't hurt nearly as much as it use to. Course I still can't sleep on my back." She sighed. Sides and belly were getting very old, but when she forgot she got a painful reminder.
Bandages in place, Wykla carefully levered herself to her feet. "Thanks for coming to check on me." She grinned to her friend as her flits set up cheeping. Wykla snickered, "when have you know me to do more than's expected? We'll be perfectly happy just sitting and watching the people walk by."

"No it will probably be a while before you can sleep on your back" Mercy agreed with a bit of sympathy, she recalled from back in her time as a healers apprentice the plight of pregnant women as they got closer to the end and could no longer find comfortable positions to lay in. It had always been hard on them and while the cause wasn't the same here the effect was. No one really thought about little things like the way you liked to sleep until you couldn't anymore and those little things tended to have a fairly large effect on a person's mood and morale.
"But you are healing and that's the main thing, it won't be to much longer" She assured her friend, rising as she did "No problem, I'd rather come and visit with you then some of the grumpier riders" She stated with a slight chuckle "But come on..I'm sure your sick of staring at these walls and I'm sure Kameth wouldn't mind a bask in the sunlight either" She stated heading towards the weyr entrance. "I think some of the candidates are having some sort of lesson today - might be amusing to watch, most of them are pretty new and havne't been around the dragons much yet"

Wykla gave a soft sigh. Healing always seemed longer when you were on the other end of it. There really was nothing she could do, but wait it out. At least she could look forward to escaping her weyr for a bit. There hadn't been any good storms of late to keep her and Kameth entertained. That was a bit of a good thing since he would want to fly in it.
She giggled, "I can imagine! I think they complain just to hear themselves complain." Her eyes twinkled in mischief. "You better believe we are. C'mon Kameth! Let's go lay in the sun like a couple of lazy ne'er-do-wells!" Wykla started eagerly toward the door. Her flight of flits winging eagerly after her with cheeps of excitement. "Oh indeed? Well this should be amusing." She grinned again.
Kameth rose eagerly as His to his feet. He followed the girls as they headed out. Remorsefully he looked down at His. I do not want to listen to listen to dull drills, or younglings trying to complete them while I take a nap. In fact he wouldn't get a nap at all that way. The girl snickered. "Kameth thinks they'll ruin his nap," she relayed to Mercy. "Don't worry, it will most probably be young dragons complaining how hungry they are and how slow Theirs is cutting up their meat."

Mercy gave Kameth a sympathetic look as he grumbled about his possibly ruined nap "Aerith is sunning by my Weyr, I'm sure some quiet company wouldn't be turned away if you'd rather" She offered the blue "Such a short easy flight shouldn't bother his wounds any" She assured Wykla as they continued into the sun, after the soft shady lighting of the weyr she had to shade her eyes slightly against the sun. It was certainly a nice day to sit outside.
Turning her attention back to Wykla she smiled slightly "You know how some of the older riders are" She agreed "They complain about the sun when it shines and the clouds when it doesn't"

"If you'd rather go nap with Aerith, instead of watching people with me, that's fine Kameth. Just be sure not to hurt yourself." She didn't mind either way, as Kameth would let her know if he needed anything. The young bluerider gave Mercy a wink. "Thanks, that might still his want to fly for a little while anyhow."
Wykla winced a bit in the sudden, bright light. Bravely she blinked open her eyes. She'd have to get to it again sooner or later. It really wasn't that bad. She took a deep breath, forgetting about the light. The wind stirred her hair and Wykla looked for a nice place to sit.
"It's so nice today." It was so hard to think that Thread had fallen again, but she bore the scars on her back. Wykla giggled, "you know they like to complain just to complain. Or maybe its just to hear themselves talk."
Kameth hummed as Mercy made her offer. It was some place other than his weyr, and away from the young dragons. He looked eagerly at His. The blue didn't waste any time as soon as he was out in the open to take off for the proffered space.
