Eliza was a magnet for trouble. Cetalese had learned that very early on, because the girls had become pretty much inseparable after their discovery of their Green firelizard's eggs. Eliza was a friendly spirit overall, but she loved adventure, gossip, and rarely (if ever) backed down from a challenge. Some people took advantage of that, and played on her friend's gullibility. Ceta always tried to watch Eliza's back when possible, going so far as to send Halith to run a distraction so that Ceta could whisk Eliza away, or get Eliza out of the trouble area before the Weyrlingmaster or some other rider could catch them at it. The weyrbrats Eliza had grown up with, in particular, were people for which Ceta had to watch out.

When the sound of a boy calling out Eliza's name caught Cetalese's ear, she automatically felt that "bad feeling" vibe begin in her gut that sent her openness of expression-- as open as her expression ever got-- scurrying for cover. On her shoulder, Daine's eyes began whirling yellow with concern and she lifted her head so that she could turn to look behind Cetalese.

Sure enough, there were the weyrbrats Ceta always hated seeing. They really couldn't leave well enough alone, even when they weren't making trouble out of any . They just... had a way of pushing Eliza's buttons and getting everyone involved into the bad graces of someone or other. Cetalese, who still much preferred to be quietly useful and out of the way even after Impressing Halith, disliked being thrown into the spotlight, especially in such a negative way.

"Hey, where are you running off to?" Benalt called as he and one of his pals approached them. He was one of the weyrbrats Ceta liked least. She didn't think he would ever get a dragon, though she kept such ideas to herself. Perhaps there was a side of him that just wasn't shown when he was around her, and his enjoyment of causing trouble was a passing phase.

He eyed Cetalese as he approached, but she just stared blankly back. It was best not to antagonize him, or give him any kind of emotion to play off of. Eliza's heart-on-her-sleeve personality might do that for them, and it would be up to Cetalese to find a way to extract her. Already, her mind was trying to formulate a plan that would see them safely away from Benalt and his pal before they could suggest whatever harebrained plan they were about to suggest.

Unlike Cetalese who had a dreadful feeling at the appearance of Benalt and his comrades, Eliza pulled herself around to face them with a bit of defiance in her eyes. For nearly as long as she could recall the boys had thought themselves better then her..or at least that was the air they put off when she was around them and having grown up with them a few months older she'd always felt the need to try and live up to their expectations.

You would think that desire would have dissipated when she impressed and they hadn't..but no as they had pointed out she had impressed green and there was still a fair chance that they ,as males, would impress to a higher rank - or perhaps it was just a case of old habits dying hard - either way whenever they came around Eliza felt the need to prove herself just as good as they were.

And that normally got her into trouble, a fact that rarely occurred to her until after the fact.

"Nowhere really" She told the boys as they approached, failing to notice Ceta's guarded expression. "Why?" She added a second later with a bit of curiosity in her tone.

Benalt grinned at Eliza's tone, it never failed really - when you wanted to find someone to do something that was possibly either dangerous or could get you into trouble Eliza was a great target. "Oh nothing really..me and the guys overheard some talk by one of the Wingleaders, they were talking about some new drills they were coming up with and we thought it would be a good idea to get a look at them you know...knowledge is power and all that - for when we impress. We thought it might be good for you to know too - since you'll eventually be in a wing" He stated in a tone which made it sound almost like he was doing her a favor.

"Of course we can't go into there..since we haven't impressed yet...but you have"

And there it was. The trouble.

Cetalese shifted her stance slightly, giving herself a half-step of extra room between herself and the boys. They didn't seem to notice, which she was thankful for, but it didn't help much with the problem at hand. At least Eliza wasn't agreeing outright with them, but how to deter her with them still there?

Sensing her rider's distress, Halith's attention was distracted from the wherry she was watching skitter about the feeding pen. Cetalesemine?

It's all right, Halith. It's just those boys again. In a moment, Halith knew all that Cetalese did, and it took the Green even less time to think of a solution.

Tell them to go suck on a wherry bone! Do not let them get Eliza into trouble, Cetalesemine. You just finished your punishment chores from the last time. You're a rider. Don't be afraid of them!

Ceta wished it was as simple as that. She wasn't afraid of the boys, per say, but she'd always dealt with trouble by letting it flow around her until it all went away. She still did things that way when trouble visited her while she was alone, but with Eliza that strategy didn't seem to work anymore. For Halith, Ceta attempted once to get Eliza to ignore them.

"We should really get going. I'm sure we'll hear of the drills when we're supposed to." She didn't take her eyes off of Benalt, although her words drew a sneer from him.

"Not much of an achiever, are you?" Benalt asked. "I'm just offering you a way to get ahead." He shrugged dismissively and glanced over to challenge Eliza with his eyes. "If you're too lazy or too scared, then nevermind. It's your loss."
PostPosted: Sun Mar 04, 2012 6:52 pm

Eliza probably would have gone along with Ceta and blown the boys off...if they hadn't gone and implied that she either lazy or scared. She scoffed slightly "Scared?...hardly, Ceta and I aren't afraid of anything - especially something as silly as a room" She told them with slightly arched brow before turning to Ceta.

"I doubt anyone would care anyways" She told her friend "We are riders now right?" She went on to justify the actions thy were about to take - never mind that they were technically still only weyrlings. Turning a strand of thought towards her dragon Eliza found her peacefully sleeping and pulled away before disturbing her. Good..they could get this out of the way before she needed oiling when she woke up. Turning her attention to Benalt she lifted her chin and gave him a look that could clearly be decoded as 'challenge accepted' "Well..which wing meeting room is it then?"

Benalt smiled with satisfaction - clearly pleased that his jab at the girls bravery and work ethic had gotten the desired result. "We've already scoped it out, come on..we'll show you" He encouraged, letting his gaze fall mostly on Eliza knowing that if he got her to go along with it Ceta most likely would as well.

Eliza had already committed to this act far to much to go and back out now, if she did then she would look like a coward just as Benalt had suggested and she wasn't about to let that happen. Glancing at Ceta she shrugged "Just a quick look - it can't hurt anything" She encouraged before following after the boys who were waiting a few steps away to lead them there.

Ceta stood in place as Eliza walked away, watching the small group. Benalt was apparently ignoring her now, but Ceta's bad feeling had grown into a stomach-gnawing panic. Eliza wouldn't listen now; she never saw the danger until after the deed was done. Only Ceta could usually turn her, and it was obvious that that wasn't going to work this time.

Cetalesemine? Halith asked, half-standing in preparation to come to her rider's defense.

Halith. Yes. Halith. Cetalese took a step forward, though Eliza and the boys were already out of sight around someone's weyr, then she rushed forward to catch up, even as she spun out a plan to try to get them out of trouble without too much of a punishment. Her words with laced with the tone of tightly controlled concern. Get a higher ranking rider. Anyone. Someone with full rider status. Hurry. We're going to one of the wing meeting rooms. Follow my path so you can see where I'm going and direct them.

Halith didn't need to be told twice, she mantled her wings and bellowed loudly, bursting out of her weyr-hovel and swinging her head about for the sight of any Brown or Bronze hides. You! she bugled as she caught sight of the Bronze descending nearby. You will help me. Cetalesemine is in trouble. Your rider must help.

The difference in size, color, and age didn't seem to deter Halith's volume, and she bellowed again, in case he couldn't hear her the first two times. She flapped her as-of-yet useless wings and reared back, agitated and concerned for her rider and Velath's rider. Cetalese had made it feel and seem urgent. It must be urgent!

Weaving around weyrs, Benalt must have been taking them the long way to any of the meeting rooms. Cetalese caught up relatively quickly, but she kept her eyes on him when she wasn't looking around for signs of what rider Halith had hopefully snared. She really hoped Halith snared someone.

'What on Pern is wrong with that little green?' D'lin asked Plexith as they landed and the young dragon came charging out towards them, it was strange enough to have a green do such a thing, but a green that was still almost a hatchling to have the gall to do so was even stranger.

Plexith who D'lin could sense was just as surprised as his rider had turned his large head to eye the little beast with a strange mixture of delight (he liked babies) and annoyance at being so unceremoniously addressed as 'you!'. As far as the bronze was concerned even a young green ought to know who he was. He was Plexith..everyone should know and love him! Of course having discerned the motive for the green's bellowing and lack of etiquette Plexith rumbled at her placatingly 'Mine will help, calm yourself' He told the young dragon before answering his riders previously asked question. 'It is Halith, she says her rider - Cetalese - is in some trouble and requests your help. You will help.'

'Of course I'll help' D'lin responded, not even bothered by the fact that Plexith had already pretty much put in that he would.Sliding down from the bronzes back D'lin glanced between the two dragon. 'Find out where her rider is, and quickly if she's in trouble there no time to loose'

Rather pleased to be doing something so important as helping a fellow rider in trouble Plexith forgot to make a snide comment about how he was already going to do something so obvious and merely asked the question, hoping that the green wasn't so worked up that she had forgotten and would indeed be able to answer. 'Where is your rider so that D'linmine may help?'

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Meanwhile.... Off near the meetings rooms.

Eliza had glanced behind her only once to see if Ceta was following and caught sight of her hurrying to catch up as they wove through Weyr, they seemed to be taking an awfully circular route - which Eliza took to mean that Benalt did not want to be seen heading in this direction. Even a fool knew that it would be a good idea to call a stop to this little adventure but Eliza had said she was going to do it and she certainly wasn't going to quit now. Any trouble she got into would be well worth it if it saved her from loosing status with the other weyrbrats.

"Are you sure you even know where your going?" She egged on Benalt as he lead them on. "Seems like your just wandering aimlessly, we should have been there by now."

"Of course I know where I'm going" Benalt answered with a slight glare at his male companions who had snickered slightly at Eliza's comment - it was well known that Benalt had a rather poor sense of direction and he hated being reminded of it. "See..it's right in there" He stated pointing to the entrance of a room which was dark in the absence of any glows. "They probably left all the details on the table, there were some tablets there when we peeked in earlier"

So the boys it seemed had already come and taken a look into the room - they'd just been too afraid to actually go in themselves..well she'd show them, she'd just walk on in and take a look-see. Squaring her shoulders Eliza filched a glow from one of the holders in the hallway for some light and marched towards the door with single minded purpose.

Hurry. Cetalese projected the image of Eliza marching toward the door, and then the building they had entered to get there. She stepped forward smoothly, brushing past Benalt's companions, though the named boy himself stepped in her path. Cetalese looked at him blankly, then beyond him at her friend.

"Eliza, this isn't a good idea."

"Shut it," Benalt ordered, standing to his full height. "We're just having a look. We won't get in trouble so long as you don't go squeal on us. You aren't going to squeal on us... are you?" He narrowed his eyes at her and Cetalese stared back, then dropped her gaze briefly, hoping that Halith was making better time than Cetalese thought they were. Eliza was going to get caught inside either way, but she hoped that the sooner the help that Halith had found arrived, the less trouble they would be in. This was not an adventure the way Eliza probably thought it was.

Benalt seemed appeased by the way Cetalese looked away, so he didn't pay much mind to the look she gave him when her eyes returned to him from the floor. "That's what I thought." He turned back toward the door to make sure Eliza hadn't been swayed by her friend's attempt to stop her, paying Cetalese no further attention now that she had fallen silent again.

----

Halith bugled in alarm, but it was softer. She sensed her rider's desire for some kind of secrecy in this matter-- which was silly, because she was doing the right thing and Halith was going to have to have a talk with her about that later.

They are bullying her. I will not stand for it! We aren't moving fast enough... Plexith. She fished the name out of her subconscious, paused to consider that, then immediately barreled on to the next thing. Plexith, they are already inside. They are going to get in trouble and those boys are bullying Cetalesemine! She sent him a jumbled set of the images Cetalese had sent her and the way Halith saw her own rider, then sorted them out so it would be easier for him to understand. Cetalesemine, you don't let them speak to you like that. You should hit him in his reproductive regions for speaking to you that way! Halith's eyes were a mix of worry and anger on behalf of her rider.

"It'll be fine" Eliza replied to Ceta, giving a quick glance behind her to give her friend a reassuring smile. It probably would have been more reassuring if looking behind her hadn't caused her to almost walk into the edge of the door. Scooting sideways to avoid that painful slip up just in the nick of time Eliza continued to reassure her friend "I'm just going to take a quick look - We're riders now." And the boys were watching . Didn't Ceta grasp the importance of that? How would it look if they backed down now ? The boys would never let them live it down..they would be the laughing stock of the Weyr and Eliza wasn't about to let that happen. Ever.

Taking a few steps into the room Eliza held up the glow to illuminate the area. "Are you sure they left anything in here?" She asked skeptically as the first table the glow lit up looked to be suspiciously empty. Perhaps she had to go further into the room. Edging forward she stretched the glow out.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

'She says there are two boys bullying the girls.' Plexith stated before he shared the images from Halith to his rider. Honestly by the way the Green had been acting Plexith had assumed they were being beaten up or something...but she was young and since it was a good chance to portray himself as a dashing hero he wasn't going to make too much of a fuss out of it.

"Alright. I know where that is." He told the dragons, speaking out loud for the benefit of the little green. Although Plexiths tone suggested there wasn't really a huge reason to hurry (no one was actually hurt) the greens obvious distress made him break into a jog anyways, taking a more direct route then the one the younger weyrlings and weyrbrats had. It wasn't long before he found the right building and left the two dragons behind when he entered. Voices were drifting from down one of the hallways and turning in that direction D'lin moved in that direction. "Ah, Just what I was looking for, nice strong lads to help with a chore." He stated as he moved down the hallway, casting Ceta..whom he could only guess was the greens rider from the the images he had received a slight wink to let her know it was alright.

Cetalese's nerves were strung tightly when Eliza took another step into the room. Now it was too late to go back. They were sure to be in for it, even if Halith managed to get someone to--

When the rider first spoke from behind her, Cetalese's entire body tensed. They had been caught. Halith had been too late and the rider she was bringing to put a stop to this nonsense wasn't going to be able to keep them all from getting in trouble now. The three boys in front of her jerked around to face this new, unexpected adversary and Ceta slowly turned her head just as the rider was going by. His words processed even as he subtly winked at her-- Benalt was looking around for an escape route-- and her gaze fell to the floor as much to hide any hints of relief (not that they were likely obvious to anyone but herself) as in deference to this strange rider who had come to (she hoped) help them.

Her lowered gaze kept her from seeing Benalt's suspicious glare in her direction before he was again captivated by the sudden presence of a rider.

"Oh, uh, of course, rider. We'd be happy to help. We were just trying to stop her," Benalt pointed at Eliza, "From going into the wing's room. We didn't think she belonged in there."

Cetalese kept her gaze firmly fixed to the floor.
PostPosted: Tue Jan 15, 2013 11:42 am

Eliza froze when she heard the voice outside the room as she considered her options, toss the glow and hide? Pretend she'd dropped something inside the room and had simply gone to retrieve it? Of course none of those options remained open for very long because Benalt swiftly (though not unexpectedly) threw her under the wagon. Well she couldn't deny that she was in a room she wasn't supposed to be..but she could at least set some of the record straight. "Not true!" She told the bronzerider as she stepped out of the room "They are the ones who brought me here!"

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

D'lin glanced at the people around him, it wasn't unusual for Weyrlings and Candidates to get into trouble but he had never been fond of leading others astray..or instigators..even when it was clear they didn't have to try all that hard. "I see..that's kind of funny considering that I got another story from the dragons. Dragons very rarely lie... something you might keep in mind for the next hatching." He warned the boys, implying that thier ill characters was unlikely to be rewarded.

"But I am delighted you have volunteered to help give the beast pens a good thorough cleaning, one of the beastcrafters is ill and I've heard they've built up a terrible stink." He told them in a cheerful enough voice..and when they didn't move along fast enough he arched his brow slightly. "Well? Run along..I'll see the young ladies here are led out."

Benalt's mouth hung open for exact two seconds before he gathered himself, looked at the rider's knots for a moment, and with a surly bow took his cronies and walked away. He glanced back once, as if to be sure the Bronzerider was actually paying attention, and then he and his friends passed out of sight around the corner.

Cetalese watched them go from the corner of her eye. Benalt might not end up at the stables. However, she wasn't actually sure what the rider had said about a beastcrafter being ill was true. Riders shouldn't lie, of course, but human beings were human beings and Cetalese knew that this had to be the rider Halith had found to come get them out of trouble. If it hadn't been, Ceta was sure that she and Eliza would also have been sent off to additional chores. Benalt would realize that sooner or later and she was sure it would mean trouble, but if he thought that this rider-- Bronzerider if Cetalese was reading his knots correctly-- was protecting them, he wouldn't be so obvious about harassing them next time.

From the outside, the stare Ceta directed at D'lin as she analyzed him was calm, but unnervingly blank. The man was several inches taller than she was, but she didn't think he looked much older, for all that he was a full rider and she just a Weyrling. He could easily have been one of her and Eliza's classmates. The wink he'd directed at her and his smooth but firm intervention indicated a friendly personality, but beyond that Ceta didn't know what to make of him. She had to concede that by any standards he was certainly attractive, and his gray eyes when she returned her gaze to them were pale and clear.

Cetalesemine, are you all right? Halith's voice suddenly pierced her thoughts, sounding as if she had been restraining herself and the dam had finally broken into a tumbling torrent of words. Plexith said I couldn't come to you and that I had to stay with him and he wanted me to stay quiet and kept distracting me. I'm here now, though, did Plexith's help you? I did pick a good rider, didn't I? Plexith is a Bronze, His had to help you, he said he would!

Ceta glanced to the side as her eyes went distant in reply to Halith. We're fine, Halith, we're fine. Thank you. You did very, very well. Plexith and His came just in time, which was exactly what we needed.
PostPosted: Tue Jan 15, 2013 4:57 pm

Plexith loved the young..but this particular green, good hearted though she seemed to be, was a great deal harder to keep occupied then many of the others he had met. He had impressed her with some stories about Aerial stunts but was nearing the end of the ones he could recall off the top of his headknobs by the time D'lin nudged him with an all clear and her released the little green to do as she pleased. Shifting and re-mantling his wings with a satisfied look on his face for the way he had played out his part of the 'rescue' before he settled down again.

The boys on their way out of the building were met with a lowered head and steady gaze until they obediently turned in the direction of the stables, a warning grumble from the bronze told them he would know about it if they strayed.

"Plexith will make sure they get where they are supposed to go." He assured the girls before falling silent again to look them over. The one which had come from the room was staring at him as though she expected him to turn on them next but the other almost looked to be judging him - silently weighing him in her mind - which was unnerving. To break the silence he held out his hand. "D'lin, Plexith's Rider" He introduced himself.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Eliza wasted no time in grabbing the hand giving it a good shake before releasing it. If she could distract him long enough with pleasantries why - he might just forget about lecturing them for being where they weren't supposed to be. "Eliza, of green Velath" She introduced herself before nudging Ceta with an elbow to break her out of the silence she had fallen into almost as soon as they had gotten here.

For the love of your dragon say something Eliza tried to tell Ceta with her eyes or we are both going to be scrubbing tubers in the kitchens for a week.

Are those boys still there? Did you kick them like I told you to? I'm sorry, Cetalesemine, they were very slow! If I gotten there sooner I would have driven them off for you.

Hush, my love. You've done fine and the boys are gone. Let me talk to Plexith's rider now, okay? Cetalese knew full well Halith couldn't have done much more than mantle her wings at them, but the defense was appreciated.

Although Halith continued to repeat herself over in Cetalese's mind, Ceta turned her attention to D'lin as he introduced himself, noticing how Eliza immediately latched herself onto him with only the faintest alteration appearing on her expression to show her resignation at Eliza's behavior. Apparently the girl was fully aware that she had been doing things she shouldn't have been and despite not knowing where the intervention had come from, she wasn't going to feel guilty about it until Cetalese spoke with her about in private later. The green-eyed girl looked back at D'lin to see how he took Eliza's introduction and missed Eliza's pointed look until the girl elbowed her in the side. She sucked in a sharp breath to hold back the 'ow' she wanted to let loose, and glanced at her friend. The quick once-over of Eliza's expression-- a very unsubtle expression-- gave Cetalese the general impression that Eliza wanted her to introduce herself, though Ceta wasn't sure what she thought that would accomplish. Usually Ceta was the polite one.

Cetalese offered D'lin her hand as well. "Cetalese of Green Halith. Thank you for your intervention, Bronzerider D'lin."
PostPosted: Tue Jan 15, 2013 5:40 pm

D'lin wasn't daft..he had a pretty good idea what Eliza was up to, she'd been caught red handed trying to do something she wasn't supposed to and now she was trying to weasel her way out of a punishment...and sadly he was pretty sure she would, at least she'd get away with nothing more then a few words. D'lin had a feeling the boys had been the instigators, it wasn't the first time he'd seen them around, and having grown up with sisters he was prone to being protective of women who were being bullied by men.

"Just D'lin is fine, It's good to meet both of you, even if its not in the greatest of circumstances...and I expect you both know better then to be in here?" He eyed them both, though his gaze was mostly for the one called Eliza, she had trouble written all over her. "Anyways it doesn't look like any harm was actually done" He went on, casting his gaze quickly into the room "And to be honest there's not much in that room that can be harmed. so if you'll put the glow back where it came from we can head out before the Wingleader or his second appears and decides to make a fuss about it." D'lin wasn't actually sure exactly which Wingleader's meeting room this was..some of them were friendly, others not so much and he didn't feel like dealing with the less then nice ones. It would put a real damper on the day.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Eliza sighed at Ceta when she finally spoke, well at least she wasn't going to stay silent the entire time. Really they could probably get out of so much more then they did if she would speak up once in a while. No matter how hard Eliza tried however she couldn't get the hold born girl to really let loose and have some fun.

"Oh yes thank you." Eliza practically gushed as she stuck the glow back in the bowl, giving the bronzerider a bright smile. She wasn't particularly interested in him..he was good looking sure, but not really her type. Still, using her feminine wiles to weasel her way out of trouble was a skill she had picked up on quickly. Men were far more willing to forgive a pretty cheerful girl then some others and he was a bronzerider..he might even have some great gossip to share about the Weyr's higher riders. "Is it true the Weyrwomen and the Weyrleader are fighting? I heard some bluerider say he heard it from another greenrider a little while ago." She asked him as she flounced down the hallway.

Cetalese held in a rueful sigh. Eliza. The girl was behaving as if she had completely escaped getting in trouble thanks to her own skills, and Ceta couldn't tell her any differently unless she wanted to get into a long discussion with her friend. She had used Halith for a reason, after all. ... Halith. Cetalese almost sighed again, but instead she looked up, certain that Eliza's manipulations were as transparent to him as they were to her.

Halith, she realized, would likely tell Velath all about this later. Eliza's gossiping had reminded her of that. That would have to wait until later, though. Ceta was hesitant to speak up, but the way Eliza had phrased her question reflected rather poorly on her. Ceta thought it might be best to step in, if there was a way to fix Eliza's blunder so that Eliza didn't appear in a completely negative light to Bronzerider D'lin.

"I'm sure that the Weyrwoman and Weyrleader's problems aren't any of our business, and even if they were fighting Bronzerider D'lin wouldn't gossip about it," Ceta said quietly, but directly, to Eliza. She glanced over at D'lin and then turned to look for her Green, whom she was sure would come bounding up at any second now that the trouble had passed.
