Gigi could still see the carpark area, and the picnic tables far off, but the noise was less here, and they were out of the way of lights and sirens, away from the agitation and confusion of the downed meteor. The light from the carpark drew stripes between the trees, fading into eerie shadows where the long grass grew thicker, wilder. Hopefully the little cream-coloured cat she’d rescued would relax a little now they were out of the crowd.
She gave it a gentle rub along the ears. “Let’s wait here until things quiet down, and then we can look for your owner. If you have an owner,” she amended, since the last cat she’d tried to help hadn’t had one. Tentatively, she felt around the cat’s neck, looking for a tag.
