"Just a liiiiittle bit farther," she said, squeezing his hand lightly. This was a good idea right? She'd told him she needed time ... well it was pretty obvious what her decision was going to be, right?
After all, she was leading him into the woods half naked in near darkness. If he didn't trust in her decision now, where the hell would they be?
Secretly, she was actually extremely glad just to be holding his hand again. Grabbing hands happened in daily life- a high five, a hand shake- but none of them felt quite as nice as holding hands with the boil she liked. Yes liked. Again.
They eventually made their way to the Amityville Springs entrance, and she said, "Okay, you can take your blindfold off!" He would like this right? Rikki was just about the laziest person she knew- what better than a place to be lazy?

She was going to murder him.
She was going to take him in a back alley and kill him while he was half naked with a blindfold on.
That was the only explanation that came to mind, and still when she squeezed his hand reassuringly he squeezed back with a fluttering heart. Even if she did kill him, at least she'd been kind enough to hold his hand one last time. Maybe if he was extra cooperative he'd get a final goodbye kiss before he met his fate, no doubt at the dancing hand of fire.
He tentatively tugged his blindfold up and tilted his head. He'd never been here before, but the air was warm and felt good on his bare skin, and further into the cave, past the dripping stalagmites, he could hear gurgling water. They were at hot springs?
"Oh man! Way better than murder!"

Danny looked at Rikki, a little confused, but a smile still present. He didn't get excited much (manly pride and all?), and when he did it was adorable. She kept her hand in his, just waiting for him to let go and run into the water, where he'd become untouchable. She was savoring a last taste of sweetness.
"Murder?" she said, baffled by his speech. "No! These are the Amityville Hot Springs!" She said it with all the grandiosity and excitement that Moira had said it, if not lacking a bit of the authority the teacher carried.
Before he could run off and jump in, she led him towards the back room slowly and tentatively. Partly because she was nervous, and partly because she didn't want to reach the water any sooner than she needed. "I ... wanted to give you an answer," she said hesitantly, eyes on the ground.
The only sounds in the springs were the slight dripping coming off the stalagmites, the slow gurgling of the water, lava, snow whatever who cares and acid, and the slight slap of her flip flops on her feet. It was clear that they were absolutely alone- for the moment.

He laughed sheepishly and rubbed the back of his neck. "Yeah, well, I'm glad we're here and not... somewhere less pleasant?" Oh man, he really didn't know how to explain that one. Was it okay to admit that he though she was going to kill him? Probably not. He pressed his lips together and matched his pace to hers as he peered around the cave that seated the hot springs. It was like a sauna in here, but it felt good. And the dripping cone-y rock things - stalagmites? Stalactites? He could never remember which one - we really cool to look at.
He tried not to reveal how he held his breath when she mentioned an answer. "Yeah? You don't have to do it yet if you haven't had long enough to think... I can wait."

"No, no," she said shaking her head while walking him back further. Realizing her error, she said, "I mean! Not no like no I don't want to- I mean that-" She was getting a little frantic, so she shut up for five seconds and closed her mouth, pointing to a stony outcropping on the side of the cave.
She gestured and said, "Look just um. Just sit there, okay?"

He couldn't feel more panicked. Seriously. What even. He clenched his fists and tried to control his heartbeat, and did exactly as she asked. He flopped on the outcropping like he had all day for her to give her answer and focused on looking relaxed. Which... was difficult, actually.
He really wanted her to just blurt out his answer, and the longer he waited, the more he was afraid she was going to give him some lecture about why she couldn't get back with him. Which would really suck, and he'd probably just pack up his bags and go back home to die. Seriously.

Seriously.
She was simply taking Bea's instructions! Bea had said this normally worked by getting down on one knee ... and then you just told them. Had she maybe said something about a ring? Danny had the rings from Yin clasped around her waste on one of her belts still- maybe she could give him one of those?
"Uhhh Rikki..." she said tentatively. This felt so weird. Why did she have to be on one knee? That part made no sense to her. It just made her already bruised-and-scraped-up knee hurt more than it needed to. "I want to be your ghoulfriend?" She bit her lip and looked up at him. Really. Why was she on her kness. Just. What even.

... Oh jack she was taking this too seriously.
Was he the ghoul in this scenario?
He really didn't want to be the ghoul in this scenario.
Oh jack.
He nearly let out an audible sigh of relief when she only said ghoulfriend, and it took a long moment for him to process what had just happened. Wait. Ghoulfriend. He lept up and scooped her off the ground and into his arms.

Danny sat there awkwardly for a moment as Rikki stared at her. Was he going to take back what he said earlier? Did he not want her now?
It was a split second doubt though, because then Rikki was coming towards her with arms outstretched. She let out a sigh that mirrored his own, but then began burying her nose in his neck.
After a moment of simply enjoying him, she said, "You know it won't be easy." Her voice wavered, but she didn't dare lift her head up in case he decided to change his mind. "I'm not pretty ... or smart ... and I get angry a lot ... I don't like Rakkwin ..."
She could go on. Really. Stop her any time you want.

Rikki began chuckling and cuddled her to his chest. Yes, she had her flaws, but he was perfectly happy and okay with it. Really. Yep.
"You're gorgeous to me. And I don't care if you don't like Rakkwin. I'll lock him in the bathroom when you come over, I don't care. As long as you do come over, and I see you all the time, and I get to be around you. Because I don't care if it's easy. I like a challenge." In one sweeping motion, he picked her up bridal style (jack the girl was heavy) and began carrying her through the cave, peering around for the lava bath.
"I also like dumping you unceremoniously into hot springs~" and he did just that, tossing her far enough in that he could avoid the spray of SCORCHING HOT ******** LAVA.

Danny's heart skipped about seven beats as he flipped her insecurities on their head. This wasn't a stupid idea at all.
Her giggles came out like his as he lifted her (definitely nothing like Roch lifting her or Yin piggybacks- this was so much better), and she cuddled up to his chest all over again. Damn his bare chest was nice. Why wasn't he shirtless more often? She really did love him- maybe she wasn't ready to admit that, but she felt it.
Wait what. Why were they walking towards the lava pits? Rikki didn't go in lava- did he? She knew they had some sort of spell thing- she'd watched a gnome bounce off it earlier- but why was he-
OH JACK SHE WAS FLYING THROUGH THE AIR NOW.
There was a giant splash of lava (luckily none of it overflowed, but still...), and after a moment she surfaced and was climbing out of the red heated liquid. "Rikkiiiiiii," she nearly growled, wiping the still hot lava off her face with a mischievous smile. After a beat or two she said, "I'm gonna get you!" and started running towards him, arms wide open.

Oh jack oh jack. She was covered in lava and running after him. That was actually pretty freaking terrifying. He watched her in was felt like slow motion for a moment, eyes wide, and then turned and took off in the other direction. He didn't look back, even as he reached the edge of a water spring. Instead, he crawled in as quickly as he could, even shadow stepping in his impatience, and huddled in the very center.
He stared out at her with his face half submerged.

Like something out of a movie, Danny ran to the very edge of the pool and then JUST BARELY managed to stop herself from tumbling in and dying. As the last of the lava dripped off of her (becoming already cool rock), she pouted and sat herself criss cross a few feet from the pool. She didn't want to get any closer, but ... well she wasn't quite ready to leave. Besides, she trusted Rikki to know better.
Even if her tail was still as far away from the pool as possible.
"No fair, you're cheating!" she said, grinning wildly still, panting a little from exhiliration.

Glub glub glub, went the bubbles that drifted from Rikki's mouth and rose to the surface of the hot spring. Loosely translated, they probably meant:
LAVAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.
Never the less, he glared at her a moment longer before rising just far enough out of the water that the liquid only slapped his chin if he moved. "So other than missing me, what did you do while I was gone?"

"Not a lot actually," she said, her face growing a bit darker. "After you left ... Roch left too. I kind of thought... well like I thought maybe-" She took a steady breath in and then after a moment, she said, "Well it doesn't matter."
Her words dripped with "I don't want to talk about it," though in truth she probably needed to. She had really had a shitty time of it all that long week. It was a good thing Yin had been there to convince her otherwise. "I almost transferred schools," she said with a weak sort of laugh.
She shuddered a little imagining what would've happened if she really went to that one all ghoul's school. Probably die. "What about you?" she asked abruptly. "You did sort of disappear. What happened?"
