Quote: Sun Hunter SHADOW RUN General Information The Shadow Run is both the simplest and most dangerous training course that can be run without a golem. A flurry of continuous attacks is what the Sun Division holds in highest respect, and the course reflects that. The course itself is a simple tunnel, reached via portal. Within the tunnel await hundreds of weak, hungry shadowlings. Nothing to worry about on their own, but capable of overwhelming a Hunter through sheer numbers at the first moment of weakness. At the other end of the tunnel is another portal, leading back to the course observation booth.
If you fail: your character is KO'd, but there's always a senior hunter in the observation booth with enhanced bandages at the ready. They should reach you in time. Really. Trained and trusty professionals on-hand 24/7.
If you win: peen points and bragging rights to those who take out the greatest number of shadowlings and go the most turns without needing to attempt a recovery maneuver.
Mechanics You must get through 5 waves of attacks to make it through the tunnel. Simply roll for attack as you would in battle. If you miss, your character falters in their attacking and is overwhelmed by shadowlings. After 3 successful hits, you may use your weapon's charge attack.
Bonus Mechanics This bonus is consumable. The bonus in this course is in the form of "recoveries" ~ these are would-be missed attacks that are quickly recovered and turned into a successful hit. Basically, they can miss once and roll again for an extra try. If you keep consecutively missing, though, and run out of recoveries, it's lights out. These do not equal an automatic pass for a round, you still have to land a successful hit to proceed.

He had never tried the training courses before now, and was flat out determined that he would give the sun speciality one a go as soon as he was able to. Especially after his foray into the field of zombie like creatures they had fought on the recent sun mission. He was rapidly learning the longer he was here the more he really didn't know. Training was one way to hone up the skills he was uncertain of, so he'd sorted himself out for a shadow run, how hard could it be really?
His positivity waned a little as he entered the hallway, lined as far as he could see with shadowlings, the distant glimmer of the portal more distant than he thought. Tracey by his side was reassuring but not entirely in the face of it all.
Yes. Lingering wouldn't do anything.
He charged forward into the fray, making a strong start, cleaving through the monsters as if they no more substantial than shadows, gaining confidence from it as he did so.

And then that confidence proved to be ill founded. As he swung in the narrow hallway, he ricocheted the axe off the wall, jarring himself and giving the shadowlings a chance to seize one of his arms and start to pile onto him, threatening to pull him under.
Panic seized him and with a snarl of effort he threw his weight against them and staggered on a few steps, shaking his shoulders to rattle them off and ready himself for another swing.

But the few moments he'd bought himself weren't enough, weren't enough at all, as with a sinking feeling more of the little bastards got hold of him. It was like something from a nightmare as he found himself pulled by hundreds of little claws into absolute darkness.
And then everything went totally black.
Next thing he knew he was outside the training course once again, dishevelled and rather badly beaten up. Pride bruised and determined to do better next time, he sloped off in a grim mood to hide away in his dorm.

Attempt 2Status Wave: 1Attack Dmg: 4 Total Shadowlings taken out: 4 Recoveries left: 1 After the humiliation of his previous defeat at Shadowrun, Rep had felt his pride slighted, and had mentally decided that if he couldn't defeat the training run, he was unfit to call himself a sun trainee. So it was with grim resolution he returned to the dark opressive tunnel, without a golem to save him as in Deathsweeper, just himself and Tracey that line between success and failure.
The angel reassured him.
Good, he thought. He'd need him to be for this, he wouldn't allow himself to fail again, he would do it until he won. It meant a lot to him to succeed at /something/ lately, if he couldn't win spars, he'd at least train to get there.

Attempt 2Status Wave: 2Attack Dmg: 8 Total Shadowlings taken out: 12 Recoveries left: 1 As he cleaved through the first wave of the creatures, Rep felt a sudden surge of confidence, it was about balance and poise, control. It was satisfying the way his axe sliced through them, and this time he felt so much more deadly. The practice of the mission with Allan showed as he didn't falter at the slashes from the massed creatures, instead drove onwards.
For some reason it felt good to yell as he swung and hacked through them, feeling like a wild berserker.

Attempt 2Status Wave: 3Attack Dmg: 8 Total Shadowlings taken out: 20 Recoveries left:1 And again he sliced through /many/ of the little bastards with a swing, Tracey making utter mince meat out of them in the small confined space. It was so damned /satisfying/, he didn't have to think, didn't have to rationalise anything. He just swung.
And for those moments he neither knew nor cared where he ended and Tracey began, for now they were /both/ the weapon.

Attempt 2Status Wave: 4Attack Dmg: 3 Total Shadowlings taken out: 20 + 3 Recoveries left: 1 The next swing he almost misjudged, one of the shadowlings sinking claws into his arm, or trying to, hard enough to weaken his fear shield considerably. But he didn't let up, he just arced around and made mincemeat out of it and two of its fellows.

He didn't give Tracey a chance to say another word as he let out a yell of delight and unleashed the full force of the built up charge, ripping through the remaining creatures in front of the portal.
Goddamn that was wonderful.
He leapt through the portal with gazelle like grace.
