I don't usually start new topics, but this was too important, to much of a conversation unto itself, and too much... Utter madness to just be part of the politics thread. ...I don't even know where to start the conversation with this, but please, have at it.

I think that the things that are being passes/attempting to be passed are completely terrifying. It's really horrifying what they're trying to do. I wonder if people would leave the country if this sort of thing starts passing en mass. I also wonder if immigrants will stop trying to get to America and start going to Canada instead.

From what I understand the "egg and sperm personhood" bills are pretty much bills being proposed to parody and to gain attention of how ridiculous the bills about embryo personhood are.

I don't think that you're correct. It one thing to start a meme, or a viral campaign in an attempt to snuff or at least snub bad legislation. A new bill proposal wouldn't be the place to do that.

My bad. It's a "novel" way to combat the embryo personhood bills. By adding a "sperm/egg" personhood amendment, Democrats are trying to ensure that embryo personhood bills don't get passed. http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2012/02/07/dem-state-senator-appends-every-sperm-is-sacred-clause-to-ok-personhood-bill/

I wonder why the Huffington Post didn't include this crucial detail. They're a paper of extremely high renown... Whereas I don't believe I know this news source. Are there any better known print medias that have covered this angle as well?

Because they included in an earlier post. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/02/10/oklahoma-senator-constance-johnson-satirical-amendment-ejaculation_n_1268768.html And it was covered on the Guardian some time ago. http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/cifamerica/2012/feb/09/spilled-semen-amendment-oklahoma-personhood-bill This has been a trend for a while now.

Maybe the author was ignorant of the previous articles regarding this? I honestly don't know, but what I do know is that there were articles on this subject prior to this one on Huffington post and other sites saying that it's basically an outlandish strategy so Democrats can kill the "embryo personhood" bills being put forth.
