Sun Hunter SHADOW RUN General Information The Shadow Run is both the simplest and most dangerous training course that can be run without a golem. A flurry of continuous attacks is what the Sun Division holds in highest respect, and the course reflects that. The course itself is a simple tunnel, reached via portal. Within the tunnel await hundreds of weak, hungry shadowlings. Nothing to worry about on their own, but capable of overwhelming a Hunter through sheer numbers at the first moment of weakness. At the other end of the tunnel is another portal, leading back to the course observation booth.
If you fail: your character is KO'd, but there's always a senior hunter in the observation booth with enhanced bandages at the ready. They should reach you in time. Really. Trained and trusty professionals on-hand 24/7.
If you win: peen points and bragging rights to those who take out the greatest number of shadowlings and go the most turns without needing to attempt a recovery maneuver.
Mechanics You must get through 5 waves of attacks to make it through the tunnel. Simply roll for attack as you would in battle. If you miss, your character falters in their attacking and is overwhelmed by shadowlings. After 3 successful hits, you may use your weapon's charge attack.
Bonus Mechanics This bonus is consumable. The bonus in this course is in the form of "recoveries" ~ these are would-be missed attacks that are quickly recovered and turned into a successful hit. Basically, they can miss once and roll again for an extra try. If you keep consecutively missing, though, and run out of recoveries, it's lights out. These do not equal an automatic pass for a round, you still have to land a successful hit to proceed.

Some time after that last mission, Deryk was determined to tackle the Shadow Run once more. He had to defeat this training course. And thus, he called up his training buddy, Wilson, to do it with. It was something they both hadn't quite conquered yet, but he was sure he could do this.
He didn't do too badly against the Grada Menos thing. At least that was how he felt. It was kind of similar to how this course worked.
"Alright. We got this. We got this! Not going down until we take out 5 waves. Five waves! Yes. Keep eyes on flanks. Work back to back. This should work. I think. I hope. Aaaaah I hope this works."

It had been a while since Wilson last attempted the course. He could remember the horribly lame defeat he had suffered last time. Just recalling the memories made Gramps screech and ramble on and on in his head, so the trainee decided to stop sulking over it and do something proactive. By a stroke of luck or otherwise, when Wilson checked his messages Deryk had invited him to take up the sun course again. After a brief moment of contemplation he decided to quickly text him back and head out. He had been doing somewhat better recently, so perhaps he would be able to beat it this time! At the very least, he hoped he would be able to get farther this time.
Wilson laughed nervously. “Yeah. We got this.” He didn’t sound too convinced as he slipped on his mask. “Well, let’s do this! Are you ready?”
Because apparently Wilson sure wasn't.Status Wave: 1 Attack Dmg: I don't even--- Total Shadowlings taken out: What is this Recoveries left: DON'T TALK ABOUT IT...

"Oh I'm ready alright. Lets do this! Yes."As the Shadowlings started to stream in, Deryk took in a deep breath before managing to slice into a handful with Tooley. However, he soon realized that Wilson was not behind him any more. "Wilson? WIIIIIIIIIILSOOOOOOOOOOOOON!"Status Wave: 1 Attack Dmg: 3 Total Shadowlings taken out: 3 Recoveries left: 0

Oh man this was bad. This was very bad. Wilson was already down. Deryk stabbed into a couple more of the shadowlings while trying to keep his cool. Trying to keep the panick off. But being surrounded made him very. Very jumpy. Status Wave:2 Attack Dmg: 2 Total Shadowlings taken out: 5 Recoveries left: 0

I’m sorry, Deryk. I’m afraid your dear friend Wilson Hopkins has passed aw—Oh wait. No. He was just unconscious. False alarm.

The panic button had already been pushed. And so, Deryk found himself overwhelmed. Darkness hit him like a boss. When he came around in the recovery room, he rubbed his head before looking over to see where Wilson was. "...Dejavu."Status Wave:3 Attack Dmg: 0 Total Shadowlings taken out: 5 Recoveries left:

This time around, it didn’t take the death trainee that long to wake up. “What just happen—Oh goddammit.” The mask was still on, but Wilson mysteriously found himself bandaged up. Most likely to some hunters on watch duty. Hissing, Wilson pulled himself into a sitting position and chose to hang his head between his legs. Again. He had failed on the first wave. Again. How was that possible? He hadn’t been that nervous this time around. Honest. So what in God’s name had happened this time? Well, at least when he woke up he conveniently found Deryk next to him.
He nodded his head. “Déjà vu indeed.” Wilson didn’t bother to take his mask off yet. He was not going to end it like this, dammit! “…want to try for another round?”

"Oh you bet. Don't want to let this beat us. We can do it! I know it."With that, after taking a short rest, he was back down with Wilson in the course area. At first, while waiting, there wasn't really anything around. And for a moment, Deryk wondered where the beasties were exactly. Just as he turned to look around, he saw one shadow leaping at him. "AAAAAAAAAH!" he screamed before stabbing it in the face with his blade. "Thatwastooclose."Status Wave: 1 Attack Dmg: 1 Total Shadowlings taken out: 1 Recoveries left: 0

Wilson grinned behind the mask. “Awesome.” After a sorely needed break, the two made their way back to the sun course. Second time around, he was more determined to make it through the first wave. He would make it this time. He would. Perhaps repeating it as a mantra was useful, since he managed to take down a number of the shadowlings. The trainee stood firmly as he aimed his cannons and coated the creatures with gas.Status Wave: 1 Attack Dmg: 7 Total Shadowlings taken out: 7 Recoveries left: 0

Though that first one had shaken him, Deryk soon saw that Wilson was on this now, as he caught sight of some green gas taking out a group of the shadowlings. "Yeah! That's the way!" he cheered, feeling pumped about this. Pumped enough that he managed to tear his way through a group for himself. Stabbing and slashing in a flurry. Already he beat his record! For once, Wilson was actually feeling hopeful about completing the sun course. Maybe he would be able to somehow finish this after all! All of the good feelings, okay?
Except then he turned around toward Deryk when he heard the cheering. “Wait did you say som—“

Woops. It seemed like Deryk had started to cheer too soon. Though, at the moment, he did not realize that he was the cause for Wilson to go down like that. There were now a lot of shadowlings surrounding him. Quickly, he tried to dispose of as many as possible, keeping up the flurry of strikes. He had to be fast. Especially with his weapon really being built better for single strikes to single targets. Status Wave: 3 Attack Dmg: 7 Total Shadowlings taken out: 16 Recoveries left: 0

Well. There was one way Deryk could tackle multiple things in one hit potentially. Tooley was ready, and so he went ahead to unleash her. Though, he might have flourished the move a liiiiiittle too much. He got pounced before he could actually attack. Status Wave: 4 Attack Dmg: 0 Total Shadowlings taken out: 16 Recoveries left: 0

Well, it seemed Wilson was beginning to get pretty good at this whole waking up after failing the sun course thing. It was unfortunate he could never wake up quick enough to see Deryk attempt to finish the rest of the run. A real darn shame. Sighing, Wilson didn’t say much when he woke up and sat back up again. He looked over at Deryk. “How’d you do?”
