Discussion!

The group of Boneland's females that occupied the spring have left with their cubs in tow. Left behind is the group called the 'Firekin' with strange pelts and massive bodies. The two groups have made a tentative truce, with the following terms.

- The Firekin have access to a small spring
- They will be allowed to occupy the northwestern area of this spring which leads to the Firekin, and set up an outpost
- Boneland's members may undergo military training at this outpost if they wish
- Huria from the Firekin (those with pelts that are not black/red/white) will be trained at the outpost and therefore in contact with the Boenland's pride; they may choose to join the pride if they wish

The adults have gathered for a discussion on the terms and events of the interaction with the Firekin. Cubs and juveniles have been sent home to their mothers and/or those females who are opting out of the discussion.

Questions and Rules

If you have a question, please PM it to the mule.

If I didn't participate in the ORP, may I still post in this one?
Of course! You may assume your character was simply absent and with the rest of the pride. All of-age Boneland's members are allowed to join.

What if my lion disagrees with the terms?
That is also absolutely fine. This is an RP about discussion. Just keep in mind that things probably aren't going to magically change just because your character doesn't agree, however.

How long, ICly will it take for a decision to be reached?
This IC discussion will last from afternoon when it is started until nightfall. Personal discussions may continue after this.

Rules

  • This should go without saying, but don't mix IC and OOC! There may be IC tension in this RP, so don't take it personally.
  • Only adolescents and adults may be present at this discussion. Do not post with cubs/juveniles.
  • Posting in this thread may offer other perks later, as well (items, other SoA characters, etc.).
  • As this is an ORP, there is no posting order, and you may post as many times as you would like.

[MORP] Discussion

Public
Weather: Cool; Strong winds move through sporadically
Location: The pride has gathered underneath the shade of large rock formations. Many lionesses are up in the crevices and cracks, and some sit down below. The group of Boneland's lions who were involved in the Firekin have only recently just arrived.

-

"What do you mean an invading force?" It was hard for Ulaka to hear her fellow females beneath the whir of chatter. The sandy lioness had missed the entire ordeal as she'd stayed back to hunt with her partner. Other lioness' had quickly caught her up, and the ex-rogue was clearly perterbed.

"It's okay, an agreement was reached!" Nahmba added in happily. The lioness was perched atop a tall rock, her hair ruffled by the moving winds.

"No, it's not okay." Ulaka pulled in a large, deep breath, and moved her way through another of the group of lionesses. "I don't want to live with a bunch of rude, redpelts!

"Where is Gakere?" she growled out. "I'm going to give him a piece of my mind! Are the rest of you okay with this?"

Nahmba had a hard time not releasing a loud sigh. Everyone knew the moment that she saw Gakere, all of Ulaka's loud exclamations would fizzle. All talk, and no act, that one.

"I don't like this," Buna said, but everyone who knew her would also know that the dark lioness didn't like anything new or unusual, "Agreement or not, how do we know they won't attack us anyway?"

She wasn't too happy with the agreement either, but it was easier to question the honour of these red devils than to complain about a possible influx of rogues. Many of the females present had joined the pride as rogues or were born to rogues. But there had been a lot of talk about fighting and taking the water with force, so she felt she had a very valid concern.

Xatu wasn't confident enough to speak his mind in this large group of females, but he was curious and wouldn't miss this meeting for anything. He climbed and settled on top of one of the lower rocks to listen. His vulture companion cursed and complained since he had a hard time staying on his back when Xatu climbed. Ah... He had wings for a reason.

Xefo landed on his lion when the boy had finally settled down again. He seemed to want to keep a low profile, but the vulture was not going to let him slip in unnoticed.

"You could warn me before you do that," he said, loud enough for most of the lionesses to hear, "I must have lost a dozen feathers flying like that before. No respect for the elderly..."

Ainra had joined to listen out of curiosity and in an attempt to quell any lasting nerves from the encounter out by the water. The lionesses around her were mostly familiar now, although she still had to learn a lot of their names and their quirks. This meant that big gatherings like these would help her fit in a lot easier than it might have been, otherwise.

"Attack us?" She peeped worriedly. "But why would they do that? They made a deal which got them what they came for." A naive response, perhaps, but surely the red lions weren't all as corrupt as that.

She seemed to realise how her words might portray her a moment later and folded back her ears, drawing in on herself shyly. And quietly (mostly to herself) she said: "I mean...if they had no intention of keeping the deal they would have done something about it then and there, right? Not wait until the whole pride was aware of them..."

Dina's thoughts were still fresh from the earlier action, her worry still pitted itself deep in her throat and twisted her gut. She had stopped briefly to find her daughter, Chazama, who was indeed of-age. Hearing such discussions might help the lazy lusizi be more invested in the pride's affairs, so Dina was apt to drag her along. Even as the adolescent protested against such. "You need to understand the situation, I don't want you venturing over to those monsters without knowing the risks," Dina muttered sharply, having quite enough of her daughter's complaining. It was bad enough she had to deal with the stress of invaders at their doorstep, the last thing she wanted to do was be embarrassed by her child's lack of maturity or for that matter, manners.

Chazama had just recently grown into adolescence... or at least that's what her mother told her. Truth was she didn't feel any different than she had before. Maybe a bit bigger, and awkward, but that wasn't much to be concerned about. "Why do I have to be here? I wasn't even there in the first place-!" she had grumbled but was cut off suddenly by her mother's sharp look. The youth shuddered and remained quiet after that. It was strange to hear that new gigantic lions had shown up, and at horrible and aggressive they had behaved. She knew her mother didn't exaggerate, as she hardly had a sense of humor, but it couldn't have been that bad! No one had even gotten into a fight. Remaining silent from then on, Chazama followed her mother until she found a place to sit, and Chazama laid down next to her. This was going to be boring, she just knew it.

After leaving Ora, Monifa had followed after Gakere to the meeting place. She recognized a few faces but she still didn't know all of them, although they were all there for the same reason. They were all going to discuss the Firekin and the arrangement. She did agree with Buna however, just because they made the agreement how did they know the Firekin wouldn't just attack. She was feeling a bit skeptical now that she was here with all the others, she had felt as if she could trust the lions who had a similar coat color as her.

Keeping her trap shut for now she sat her rump down and listened. Best to get everyone else's opinions first before speaking. She wanted to hear what Gakere would have to say about this too.

“Buna... it will be alright.” Now that the tension had eased up, Baie'mooi had quickly returned to her easy going demeanor. She now lay sprawled comfortably on the dusty ground, green eyes eyeing her relative softly. She was completely convinced that Gakere had managed to make a beneficial agreement especially under such unusual conditions.

“It’s not like we had much of a choice. They were desperate for water and they would’ve fought for it. Sure, if the whole pride rallied up against the red pelts, we might’ve defeated them but more would’ve come. We would’ve lost many lives and gained powerful enemies. Umholi Gakere did well.” She looked at all the familiar faces with a determined expression as she expressed her faith and trust in their leader.

“I don’t think they will break the terms of our agreement. Even the unstable one with the strange eyes seemed to be offended when we shielded the cubs from them. Only one thing worries me...” she paused, a little frown casting a shadow over her green eyes and the orange lioness seemed to get lost in though.

Xefo perched on Xatu's shoulders, winds ruffling his feathers. He shook his head as the orange lioness spoke. Defeated them? What a silly thing to say. She had been there and seen the size and ferocity of the intruders. She might not have realised how many they were... The lioness was right in some of the things she said, but the vulture couldn't stay silent when she implied they could win a small battle against the intruders.

"You couldn't have defeated them in a head on fight," he croaked, "Not then and there... You might have a chance against them in a guerilla style fight, but not then and there... I think you should be thankful Gakere managed to talk them out of it."

The young male ducked his head down and folded his ears back as the vulture on his back spoke his mind. Xatu had planned to stay out of the way and let the females speak, but it wasn't going according to plan. He glanced at his mother, perched atop that high rock. She seemed confident that the deal had been a good one. Xatu didn't know what to think, but if Xefo said they would have lost a fight against the red pelted ones it was probably the truth. He had learned to trust his companion's judgment.

"Xefo," he hissed, without much hope that the stubborn vulture would shut his beak.

Buna glared at the bird and settled near Baie'mooi. They were family after all, and she wasn't going to team up with a freaking bird to argue against family. Her aunt might be younger than her, but she could be fairly reasonable most of the time. She pointedly turned her back to the Enda and his loud bird and focused on Baie'mooi.

"What," she asked, with a bit more edge to her voice than usual, "What's worrying you?"

“Of course we could’ve defeated them, feather brain. I don’t care how big they were, they were too few to match our entire pride.” Though the small group at the waterhole – herself included – might have received the greatest amount of casualties… how many would’ve returned to the heart of the pride had Gakere not managed to work out a deal, Baie had to wonder. Would she be alive at that moment? Would anyone besides the cubs have survived? “And they came all the way from the desert. Thirsty, most likely and with their stamina depleted, that was probably the best time to fight them. But it would’ve meant deaths and then more would’ve come so it’s pointless to argue what could’ve happened.” Actually why was she even arguing with a bird?!

After casting an annoyed glance towards the lion who should be controlling his pet, Baie’s eyes softened as Buna drew closer.

“I can sympathize with them… we were once in their situation, right?” she swallowed, her mouth suddenly dry. “Today, all they wanted was water. But what if one day they need more? What if they ever need to leave their lands like we did? Won’t it make sense for them to come to a familiar territory where they already have a large force?” She paused, her voice slowly growing in confidence. “We should keep an eye on them… learn as much as we can. Allies today… but tomorrow…”

Dina hadn't paid much attention to the Enda during his return, and certainly not to his vulture friend. She got frustrated enough with her own feathery loud-mouth and the last thing she wanted to do was be around another one. Nonetheless, it was here, and it was speaking. Hopefully his presence alone would not attract Bora's attention, for what the lioness last knew her buzzard had opted to stay in the trees near the water the Firekin were currently occupying. That was good, it meant an early warning system if they happened to try any funny business. "I agree, it wouldn't be a bad idea to keep surveillance on them. If nothing else, Bora has already offered to do so while we're not scouting the area together." It was something at least. Those Firekin didn't seem very trustworthy, and her fellow lionesses seemed to share the same thoughts.

All of this talk about enemies and fighting brought a chill to the young female's hide. She already didn't like hunting, she didn't want to be subjected to fighting either! Well... maybe. Her eyes strayed in the direction of where she knew the Firekin to be, and she couldn't help but feel a sense of adventure at their arrival. They sounded strange, and different, just the sort of spice Chazama was craving. She practically missed her mother's comment about the annoying bird-brain she had had to stomach since cubhood, but her mind was in a different place. "You said they offered to train us to fight if we wished..." she half-mumbled to her mother, unsure if the lioness was paying attention, and seriously hoping she wasn't. "I'd like that." It was appealing to the young adolescent, to think she could fight with giants and be trained to be awesome. She was only sub-par when it had come to hunting practice, and Chazama wasn't exactly enthusiastic about continuing to fail constantly.

The brown lioness folded her ears back and frowned. That thought was worrying indeed. She had been against the relocation in the first place, but how would she had felt if there had been a choice to move to a semi-familiar place. No, she wouldn't really have liked that either...

"Good point aunt," she said to the younger lioness, "And you're right Dina, we should try to keep an eye on them, and talk to them too. If we know more about their strange customs and how they think it should be easier to guess what they might do."

Buna made a face as she talked about interacting with the red ones, but as distasteful as she found it she knew it might be wise. Buna wasn't really sure who Bora was, but it was good that someone had volunteered already. She just hoped Bora wasn't one of Dina's daughters since young lionesses could get all kinds of foolish thoughts in their heads... Like learning how to fight apparently. Buna frowned again, giving the girl a sidelong glance.

"Feather brain," Xefo said and puffed his feathers up in annoyance, "Well how would you like it if I..." But no one got to hear what the vulture had intended to say, because the young male sat up suddenly and the bird lost his footing. He flapped his wings to try to stay put and started swearing instead of finishing the sentence.

Xatu wasn't about to let his familiar start an argument about what might have been, so he took action. He knew that Xefo wasn't as sure footed as a younger vulture might have been, and he also knew that he couldn't argue and balance himself at the same time. He could still swear just fine, and he winced at the creative curse words. There were no cubs present at least, but the brown lioness was glaring at them.

"Shut up Xefo," he said in a low voice, and then cleared his throat, trying his best to talk loud enough to be heard, "My bird can keep an eye out too, right Xefo."

It felt wrong to speak up among so many females, but if the two of them could help in any way he wanted to at least make an offer to do so. If the lionesses decided they could do better without the young Enda and his vulture he'd accept that, of course. Xatu still had the sinking feeling that someday soon they'd realise that he had no idea what he was doing and chase him away.

It was unfortunate that Simosihle had to hear about the invasion--like a wildfire over the savannah--of enormous lions that had appeared on the horizon with their brilliant red and sooty black pelts second hand. Making demands and throwing their weight around like they already owned the place. As an Umama it was Simo's job to be present at such important events to help provide guidance to the lionesses who looked to her and provide a strong decisive manner. Being an Umama was still a position the ashen female westled with, she was too young to be a leader in any definition of the word! Yet she was trying. Trying to do her mother, grandmother and the rest of her matriarchal line proud.

Were they proud? Simo didn't dare ask and reveal her insecurity.

Approaching the group of lionesses with her chin held just high enough to feign the confidence she was still struggling to find in herself the Umama gazed at those present. There were a few she recognized as her own girls and others who followed Beru and then several more who were unfamiliar. New comers to the pride? Taking a place on one of the jutting rock faces near her mother Simo nodded fondly to the golden female before greeting those in attendance a bit abashedly. I'm sorry I wasn't present for the initial meeting with the outsiders.. I'd really appreciate it, if someone could catch me up to speed.

As Njalo approached at a brisk jog, happily dropping into the shadows thrown by the rock formation where many of the lionesses were already settled, her tongue lolled from her mouth casually. Expression as carefree and optimistic as ever. Like some of the other lionesses, she had also been away from the pride on a solo hunt. Continuing to prove herself an asset to the pride by producing enough fresh meat to feed her cubs and everyone else she counted herself responsible for--despite consistently being sidetracked by various unplanned adventures.

Though she wasn't entirely sure why they were gathered, the tension that Ulaka continued to attempt stirring made her shoulders flinch. Nja didn't like to see her sisters upset about anything so the fact that this insistent grey female was always searching for something to raise fur about didn't always sit well with the typically cheerful creature. For now, she lay quiet, listening to the others speak and finding her attention drifted to her cubs. Hopefully they were behaving themselves, it still amazed her how fast they grew!

When her niece spoke, Baie’s mouth twisted in a little smile that quickly grew into a grin. Their family relation always amused the orange lioness even in this tense situation.

“Thank you, dear niece.” She said with obvious amusement that only seemed to increase once the annoying bird almost fell from its perch as Xatu spoke. She gave the male a tiny nod of approval before sitting politely as the Umama spoke.

“A group of red, black and white lions approached us at the stream where we took the cubs to play. Most of them are considerably larger than us and both their males and females seem to have some kind of fighting training.” She paused, allowing someone else to continue the recollection of the events that had taken place just a few moments before. She was struggling with the idea of learning to fight. While it seemed like something their young male cubs could benefit from, it was something that would change the pride’s dynamics greatly if all cubs and the older lionesses would also choose that option. It had never been the Abazingeli’s place to protect the pride – that was the Abaholi’s job, after all – so Baie was still far too unsure about this was a strange new idea. And yet, curious. Curious to see how good she’d be. Curious enough to want to learn more about the odd strangers. And, perhaps most importantly, she felt the pride would need to become stronger as a whole because it would take a lot more than the Abaholi to fight off the intruders should they ever attack in full force. Someone had to keep an eye on them.
